Number Nine in South Lakeland

Lovely place, a real gem! We went on a Friday evening and met with a warm welcome and explanation of the tapas style menu, number of plates etc. Food superb and as discussed went with three plates each of mixed options, meat, fish and vegetables arriving at various times as and when cooked! Delicious! Table ours for the night and the ambience ensured we stayed until we were the last ones to leave! Loved the 80’s & 90’s classics on in the background!! Cocktails also very good and nice way for us to finish our evening. Thank you to all at Number Nine for a lovely night and one we will repeat with friends!

We booked and ate here whilst visiting Kirkby Lonsdale for a few days. Initially, it was the previous excellent reviews on here that was the draw for me and I wasn't disappointed. It was a Wednesday evening out of the holiday season when we visited and therefore it was quiet in the restaurant, which suited us. I imagine even when busy it retains its intimate atmosphere due to the size of the place. Having never really had Tapas Style food before we weren't too sure what to expect. For those not used to the idea, the menu can look a little limited however, don't be deceived, we struggle to choose because everything sounded so good. In the end we chose seven dishes between the two of us. As hearty eaters we still thought we might be hungry, staff said we could add to our order at any time, there was no need to as we were quickly satiated. We had hummus with pitta bread, spring Lamb canon, fillet of beef, aspen fries, hasselback Potato, mushroom parfait and prawn toast. All were delicious and well presented. The meat was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. We'd highly recommend the aspen fries especially. Food comes out in no particular order, just as it is ready. We each had a dessert (sticky toffee pudding and a dessert version of a Pina Colada). We had a cocktail each, the Blackforrest Martini and the Smores Old Fashioned. Also all delicious. The owner was really friendly and attentive without being intrusive. All the staff were fantastic. A couple with a dog came in (we love dogs), and the staff immediately set up a little bed and bowl of water under the table and gave him/her a fuss. The couple were offered a biscuit for the pup but they declined as he/she is fussy. This was lovely to see. If we didn't live so far away, we'd be regular visitors.

We visited on Friday evening, intimate restaurant with nice background music. We enjoyed all our 6 choices, wonderful duck, pork cheeks, prawns on toast, parfait mushrooms, spring pea dish and a fish dish that we can’t remember! Excellent South African white wine. Highly recommend and if we are back in Kirkby Lonsdale again we would definitely eat here.

Small it may be, but this place has a big love of food and a warm welcome. We have visited Number Nine on several occasions and have never been dissatisfied. The food is always outstanding, and the service is unparalleled. There is a great deal of pride in every dish. From the quality of the products used, the care taken in the cooking, and the way it is presented on the plate. We would not hesitate to recommend this little gem of a restaurant

This was our second visit to the number nine, and we were not disappointed. The food was exceptional and the service second to none . We would not hesitate to recommend it. Although small it has a big attitude and a warm welcome. We will definitely be returning again. !!

We went on a Sunday evening when there's quite a limited menu, basically a few starters, Sunday roast dinners, vegetarian option & a couple of sweets. This wasn't an issue to us & my taco starter & our roast beef dinners were plentiful & very tasty ! Staff were friendly & service very efficient. The restaurant itself has a pleasant informal atmosphere & was fortunately warm, not something you can rely on these days..... nothing worse than eating in a cold room with your coat on ! Prices are not unreasonable for the quality & quantity provided. Would certainly go again when a more extensive menu is available.

We were excited to meet here as we had seen the menu ,friends had been and we normally like tapas.The food was mostly very nice but the mushroom crostini was mushrooms on toast not crostini. My friend advised them he had an intolerance for an ingredient in certain ice creams and this was discussed for about 15 minutes and then my friend said I will have cream with my pudding instead and then his pudding was brought out with Ice cream and he was not told,which he started to eat and then realised it wasn't cream,we were then concerned and asked him to take it away,it was the irresponsible and careless attitude which concerned us.We will not be back. We paid (this wasn't as reasonable as we thought) and continued at the pub across the road.

Second time here, food faultless and service prompt. Buzzing on a weekday, but this may have been due to the half-price food offer. Tapas style menu and when it arrived it arrived. It was very tasty.

What an excellent meal! Food was fresh, delicious and different. Really high quality and creative. Plenty of options. We were particularly impressed by the desserts which change daily. Service very warm and welcoming. We came for the January deal which was amazing! A must-do in Kirkby.

We were excited by the interesting menu and each ordered 3 tapas dishes each. They were lovely (especially the prawns and fish dishes!) and we enjoyed the majority of our meal, however one plate which was pork came out after we had finished all the others and it wasn’t fully cooked. The waiter informed us that the chef wasn’t in and took the cost of the last plate off the bill. The rest of the meal was lovely, just a shame about my partners last plate as he left feeling still hungry.

The Number Nine Bar and Kitchen is brilliant. The restaurant is smartly decorated with a relaxed atmosphere. Service is prompt, attentive (but not invasive) with a warming friendly approach. The waitress explained how the dishes are prepared and arrive in a 'tapas' style random order. The presentation of the food is great with brilliant flavours to each dish, we really admired the chefs work and their passion shows through the food that they produce. At the end, we had to say a personal thankyou to the chefs and staff as this food is a massive step up from other restaurants we have visited. We will be back and we recommend Number Nine. Thankyou.

Four of us ate at No 9 last night, second time in the week, and it didn’t disappoint. Fabulous meal we tried nearly all plates, sprouts and pork cheeks came up top and we ordered extra portions. Rachel and her team are doing a great job service very good and all dishes were served on warm plates and food piping hot. Wine half price on Thursday great attraction for us.

Had 5 dishes. 2 ok , 2 terrible value and 1 not very good and certainly not as expected. The ok ones- tempura vegetables and potatoes. Most restaurants couldn’t get those wrong. The two terrible values ones- lamb shoulder- quite tasty but an absolutely tiny portion. Second- scallops and chorizo. £12.50 for two tiny scallops and 2 slices of chorizo. This was exorbitant for the portion size. The not very good dish was the chicken lollipops. There were chicken thighs on the menu but not keen on those so we ordered the lollipops. We got chicken thighs- and they were not very good at all! Waiter didn’t charge for these when we complained. All in all a very disappointing experience.

We had a completely delicious meal at Number 9- the plates were generously sized and well priced, we had 5 between 2. All of the different flavours of the dishes we ordered were spot on, especially the sesame tuna- will have to experiment with that one at home! They also made us feel very welcome with our dog. The tapas was all cooked fresh and full of flavour with so many choices for all. The cocktails were delicious and to finish I had sticky toffee pudding and coffee. Everything we had was made with high end quality ingredients and the coffee just finished it off for me. Fantastic blend and very well priced. We can’t recommend Number Nine enough and suggest you book in advance. A special place ran by people that care and will give you a fantastic dining experience

Tapas style food is always delicious and not overpriced at all, especially taking into consideration quality of ingredients and the culinary expertise. Excellent veggie options and the drinks/cocktails are amazing. The menu changes regularly, so it's always interesting and keeps us coming back.
