Northern Soul Grilled Cheese in Manchester

It was so good the first time, we had to take our son and his girlfriend the 2nd time! I, of course, had to order the MAC ATTACK again (minus the fried chicken) this time but still couldn't finish it. Definitely worth a visit if you want something different.

It's pretty good but at the end of the day it's just a grilled cheese sandwich. It wasn't as "amazing" as we expected it to be. I'd say it's a one time visit. The prices are also quite high for a sandwich with a few toppings and loads of cheese. If you fancy a grilled sandwich and you don't want to make it at home, this is the place to go. It's the best one I've had in a restaurant but again, it's just a cheese sandwich. The atmosphere and the staff are amazing tho!

Honestly some of the best food in Manchester. I go with my colleagues and we leave so full and satisfied, the menu is stacked with so many options and it's worth every penny. It's cooked to perfection, that first bite is heaven each time, you just never want it to end. The team are lovely and chatty, they are fully knowledgeable with the menu and what's good and what goes with what food, we're all due another visit very soon so the excitement is real. Highly, highly recommend visiting here, if you are in Manchester for a day trip THIS is the place to eat.

Popped in one Saturday lunchtime , not expecting much, but it was such a wonderful experience! We sat with our dog and ordered the ham and chips grilled cheese with some coffee and it was very yummy. the lady who served us was really friendly and offered coffee refills :)

Cheese-lovers unite! They certainly know what they're doing here at Northern Soul with the gooey, stringy deliciousness that is melted cheese. 🧀 I shared the mac 'n' cheese waffle fries with one of my friends, and I also had The Soul with tomatoes and jalapeños. So tasty!!

I’ve had this place saved for a visit for years, FINALLY I made it for lunch and it was certainly worth the wait! They very kindly allowed us to bring our dog inside too which helped us avoid sitting outside in the cold. The mac n cheese is definitely one of the best I’ve ever tried. I can’t wait to come back next time I’m in Manchester. Thanks to the lovely wait staff too 😊

Everything was very good, food, atmosphere and very friendly staff. We recommend it!

Came for breakfast a few days ago, the restaurant had an amazing vibe and the service was extremely friendly and quick. Sadly, there were a couple of issues with my food. The truffle and parmesan hash browns were cold the first time they came out, but this was sorted very quickly and they were lovely and crispy the second time around. The truffle flavour was very strong so if you're not sure on truffle be aware! The sausage grilled cheese sandwich was very tasty, with a very generous portion of sausage inside. I felt that the sandwich was a bit haphazardly put together so it didn't hold together very well and the egg, while having a lovely runny yoke, was slightly congealed and under on the white. Overall, I'd definitely come back to Northern Soul to try their regular menu on the strength of their service and the lovely atmosphere of the restaurant.

The best mozzarella bites you'll ever eat, and a drinks menu so far above and beyond what you'd expect from a sandwich restaurant. Truly worth the trip.

My wife and I recently checked out Northern Soul, and we were blown away by their mac and cheese and grilled cheese. Seriously, they were incredibly delicious! Not to mention, the service was top-notch, with friendly staff making us feel welcome right from the start. Sure, the prices were a bit on the higher side, but for the quality of food and service, it was definitely worth it. I'm already planning to come back and bring some friends along. Highly recommended!

We both ordered the New Yorker and some mozzarella bites and the quality was incredible. We were also served by Elise who was very friendly with her service and was helpful when it came to explaining the menu. Will definitely be returning

Bangin little spot. Always on point. Staff are always super friendly, and the tunes are always on point. Oh, and the food hits the spot every time, too. And vimto on tap, I mean, c'mon, where else has vimto on tap??? Fire! Deffo, go here!

Great little place for basic food done well. Didn't even know about it until a friend happened to walk past. Had to wait a bit for a table, but staff were very prompt and aware and found us a table as quickly as possible and gave us a rough time estimate for a table to be free. Start to finish a good meal and hidden gem for Manchester eateries.

I absolutely love the food here but the service is always a little less than steller. We asked to sit in one of the booths, we were a party of 4. We were told no and that it was reserved for a party of 6. Not two minutes after we sat down a party of 4 walked in and was sat at the exact same table we were sat in. I've also noticed it usually takes flagging someone down for an order to be taken, the past few times I've been that's been the case. I absolutely love the food and will be coming back regularly as we already do, but the service could be improved upon!

Easily the best food ever. I went completely non-verbal once i tried my food and only responded in grunts of pure enjoyment. This place easily deserves the best food award in the entirety of the UK. The fact that it doesn’t is criminal maybe the UK doesn’t deserve this place

I love this place, the food is amazing and the staff are always smiling and you can't help but sing along to the music that is playing . A must visit if you are in Manchester.

Really gone downhill. Portions are smaller, they stopped including sides (no slaw!?) and try to charge you for it, they stopped putting sauces on the table and instead try to charge you for it. This is meant to be inspired by soul food, big hearty portions, look how lackluster their signature Mac attack is. Sadly not worth the money anymore.

Ótimo! Pedimos um Kogi Cubano e dividimos. Unica 'reclamação' é que acho que esqueceram no nosso pedido. Veio bem atrasada a comida (comparando com as mesas ao lado), e a bebiba bem depois e só porque perguntamos. Poderiam trazer a bebida enquanto esperávamos o lanche. Mas o espaço é muito legal e a comida é ótima.

The food was IMMACULATE. The service is top notch, can’t fault them at all, especially with the fact that Elise and Katie seemed run off their feet. Still provided amazing service. The food is well priced for the portions you get. The milkshakes are massive but so so good!! 100% recommend the mozzarella bites

Finally made it! I've been looking to visit here for such a long time and glad it was worth the wait! The grilled cheese was done to perfection, and would recommend a bowl of frickles! My friend had the mozzarella sticks which are insanely huge, and real good value for money - but also incredibly tasty. The only issue is there's nothing like this in my neck of the woods so I'm going to need to visit again to try the other items, unless I can get a deliveroo to the North East! Would 1000% recommend.

I don’t really know where to start this review… Simply the best grilled sandwich I’ve tasted in a long time. Sides were fantastic too, everything from frickles to chips was top noch. Place itself is cute and staff is great. Can’t wait to be back ♥️

Wir hatten zur Vorspeise die Mozzarella-Stix und danach die classic Mac 'N' Cheese mit den House Fries. Aufgrund eines speziellen Anlasses haben wir noch je ein Gratis-Bier bekommen. Der Service ist auch super. Gutes Essen in England zu finden, ist ja bekanntlich etwas schwierig. Northern Soul Grilled Cheese ist daher definitiv eine der besten Entscheidungen.

Very nice experience all around. The staff were lovely, and very welcoming. I had the Mac and Cheese which was good. My three friends had the classic which was amazing! I was very jealous of them having gherkins with their meals. Thankfully, they each treated me to a bite which was heavenly. My friend had the Strawberry Lemonade which I definitely recommend. I think my ideal meal would have been the classic, and a strawberry lemonade and then for us to all share nibbles of the Mac and Cheese.

I still can't get over just how good this place is. The grilled cheese toasties are literally worth every single penny, and only cost a relatively few of those. Total bargain in my opinion. Every time I go into Manchester I make a bee-line here. So fabulous, so filling and so reasonably priced. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Manchester food Gem, a must for anyone in the city center.

The team are amazing, best people you’ll ever work with, however the management + owners have a clear lack of respect for their staff which is painfully obvious, even to customers. Breaks weren’t given correctly, inconsistency in the training given and no room for growth and mistakes, and was also promised 35+ hours contractually, only to then be given between 14-17 hours, being told I had to quote “earn” my contracted hours. The overall vibe of the restaurant when management were in was hostile and unhappy, would gladly never go back there again.

Honestly service wasn't great, our drink was forgotten and felt like we were in the way, Water is self serve which is fine but didn't feel hygienic. Grilled cheese was good, very oily.

We visited for lunch today and the food did not disappoint. Fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches and the best Buffalo chicken Wings we've ever had. But guys, you need to be telling customers as soon as they sit down if you've not got menu items available and not when they order (bacon jam on this occasion). Not only were we disheartened, but so were the tables either side of us who weren't told, so that's three unhappy tables at least and it was only 12.45.

Service was great and as usual my favourite Classics and the Ham & Cheese toast were really great as ever. Just a small negative that the purple cabbage salad was not well marinated and lacked some flavour on both dining occasions. Unfortunately, prices have risen by a quid probably due to inflation pressure which was understandable. For £6.90 it can be a little pricey. Hopefully things will get better. I have been visiting them whenever I have to travel to Manchester for work. Unfortunately their former store near the Piccadilly station has closed and hopefully they’ll reopen there again!

I last came here in 2020, the food and service were great however on my return this week… whilst the waitress was very welcoming, everything I asked for was not on the menu as they told me they had ran out, it was only 5pm. The quality of service was very very poor. I had asked for saracha fries which for £1.50 extra had literally the minimal amount of sauce on. I took a guest and they were also very disappointed after I had recommended it to them. Will not be returning!

If you come to Manchester this is the only place you should eat … I read the reviews a couple of nights ago and it was well worth the wait there's mozzarella sticks and there are THESES served with cranberry ketchup.. but it was so crowded 😔

My experience with grilled cheese sandwiches is limited to what my toastie throws out. That being said, these were some of, if not the best sandwiches I've ever had. The staff are super friendly to boot. Topped off with a decent selection of drinks (Mon the Irn Bru ) and a trendy setting, I definitely see myself going back.

If you are a cheese lover this is your place. I would say it is a mythical place in MCR. A place you must go and you won't be disappointed. The food is simple but delicious, plus you will feel your stomach satisfied without cleaning out your pocket. The staff is attentive and the service on point. It is quite popular and always full. Once you try it you will not regret. The cheese grilled sandwiches menu is always being update so you can always try something new which is a plus

Bit of a wait for a table but if you love cheese then it's totally worth the wait. We shared a sandwich, fries and mozzarella sticks and that was more than enough for lunch.

This place is amazing. Delicious food. Nice staff. Was a bit of a queue to get inside and we arrived early! If we had been an hour later we wouldn't have waited as the queue was too long as we were leaving. But will be returning for sure
