North Street Chip Shop in Angus

As fast as I'm concerned this has been the best Chippy in Forfar by far for a long time. Never been let down by the quality of the food from there. If you've never tried them before, do yourself a favour and you'll see what I mean.

Always get a crackin fish supper here best in Angus. Some say it's a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Delightful service and happy staff always make me welcome even though I may be once a month as not very well. But great food .

Well known for best chippy in Forfar , we only visit on odd occasion when visiting relatives in the area . Usual very busy around 5pm when we went in we thought that’s strange, why only 2 people in the shop . Hung around for pre ordered food , then noticed they’re using bought in chips in a big plastic bag . They used to cook fresh cut chips . We got our food handed over with out a smile I might add . Got home to eat it & it’s basically oven cooked chips !! You used to get offered a lemon on the fish if you order that . Not any more gone right down hill . We won’t be back 😳

My last experience was around 65 years ago when I lived at Whitehills in Forfar. I seem to remember it was Ross's Chip shop or something to that effect. Must try to get back and try again.

A total shock we ordred fish and chips twice, took it out to eat and it was discusting old fish and old oil wont be back,

Truly awful . Chips were soggy and undercooked. Mock chop was soaked in grease and inedible. Never again will I use this place

Terrible experience, not worth the fuel and the wait. Tiny portions, when i took the box out the bag i thought is was empty, tiny small single fish (£7.00 !) broke of about a third in batter, no fish inside ! the piece i was left with was about the length of my fork, looked like just a large fish finger. Fish fillets are cut down, you dont get a whole fillet. I would doubt if a trawler could legally land such a small fish ! from trawler to chip shop..........something fishy going on. The fish supper i bought (£10.00) was a bit larger with a handful of chips. Portions are tiny and not worth the money, better value elsewhere. Way, way, way over priced.

Didn't take to kindly being served by a late 20yr old girl, kept sticking her tongue up her nose disgusting put me right of my tea.

The food is good. Seems to be quite fresh. Although, the portions are tiny, especially for the price. You may end up being hungry and poor.

I have to say... It's a real shame that I'm giving them three stars, after all, the staff are absolutely fantastic and the place is spotless - however, having ordered a chicken fillet supper, and hearing about supposedly large portions, I was greatly disappointed. The chicken fillets are about two finger widths wide and ring finger length. The chips were fantastic and the fish was absolutely lovely, however I was dearly disappointed having received something more reminiscent of chicken nuggets than proper fillets, as well as a meager amount of chips.

Long time customet, not been in a while. Sign of the times perhaps, Prices up alot, heinz Tartar as opposed to the prior tubs, no lemon, portions seem less. Quality still there, but changes noticeable.

Best fish and chips in the world, hands down. I will fight anyone who says otherwise. Used to go here regularly in the 90s when at high school, moved to Australia and came back 20 years later and nothing has changed. Same great fish and chips - same owner standing there making them. Deserves 6 stars

Good quality food. Slightly more expensive than other chip shops, but totally worth it.

Took a trip of 30 minutes to this chip shop and arrived at 8pm to be told they are shut even though states online that they are open till 9pm and was turned away quite abruptly. Won't entertain again.

Always get a funny look when we ask for "salt & sauce"

In my opinion the best fish & chip shop in forfar. Scrupulously clean. Not been in for a while but just as good fish supper as I remembered it.

Tried this place as the pond is closed this week and did not disappoint. Lovely fresh fish and able to not only order online but also got 10% off (as a 1st order), so the dog got a jumbo sausage portion 😂

Called today for fish.,gluten free day,The haddock was beautiful and the batter crisp ,as you would expect from a proper chippie. Keep up the good work !!! Just sorry you have stopped opening at lunch time Thanks

Ordered white pudding supper and chicken supper by phone for collection.I saw the menu on their website and the cost was £12 -80. When we collected our order they asked us for £14-40 not wanting to make a fuss in the shop we went home and checked our prices on their website it was as we thought £12-80.We then phone and were told to go back to shop to sort it out only to be told the prices have gone up. We said we had checked the website and it was £12-80 they then said the website was wrong and it was going to cost £100 to have it altered. So for god sake ask on the phone when placing an order for the price as they definitely won’t tell you.Disgusted

Was 1 St time here as holidaying in the area, be suffice to say it will be my last!! Fish supper price on par with a lot of restaurants! The comparison to a fish supper at the weekend was abyismall! Over priced and tiny portions could have counted the chips! Times Forfar had a decent chippy.

Firstly not impressed with the meagre choice was definitely not paying their price for fish and chips opted for pudding supper. I noticed children portions available dread to think the size of them as adult portion horrendously small will definitely not go back overpriced and poor quality

A small chip shop on an unassuming corner. Appeared very clean and tidy. Staff friendly and efficient. Fish cooked to order, decent size meal. Very nice fish .

Used to a great chippy, very mediocre now in my opinion.

You turn up to buy fish n chip order then your told you need to book in take away slot to collect your order over 1 hour slot for fast food takeaway service... I know its covid season but keep your fish n chips sourced a better service

North Street Chip Shop has become our favourite "go to" treat takeaway! 🤩 The staff are lovely to deal with and the food is always tasty, fresh and piping hot!!

Everything is freshly cooked to order which is great. It's just the traditional fish and chip shop fare which is good as it makes the menu easier to navigate. If you want a kebab or pizza or whatever go elsewhere. A special mention should go to their white pudding. In recent years, in East Lothian where I now live, the white puddings are just not great. North Street Chip Shop has the traditional squishy, moist ones with great batter. I've been getting chips here for at least 42 years. I love it. However, they've lost one star as the fish batter could be improved. Sorry.

We drive past the shop near our house and across town to get the fish suppers at North Street Chip Shop. Always big portions and delicious. If possible, they have gotten even better during all of the restrictions. So happy they were able to adapt and keep serving their delicious food.

Long waits, unfriendly staff, smallest portions ever (chips are surely the cheapest things to make, yet they barely give you any!), greasy and horrible fish. The only thing I enjoy is the tartare sauce. Have tried this place many times as I used to live very near it, so purely out of convenience but always regretted it! Avoid and go to Arbroath for some decent fish and chips.

Have been going here for a while and even during the full lock-down in Spring time. The quality varies a lot and recently, it has been getting worse but last night was borderline inedible. The fish itself was no way fresh and was chewy, never mind the batter, the white and black pudding where mushy and just horrible. The chips while never the best in this fish bar, were worse than usual. All together, it was probably the worse fish and chip meal I have had and my son who was as hungry last night as I was said the same. This place needs some serious quality control unless the owner just relies on the local folk not caring but given the price that is charged any reasonable/sensible person would expect much, much better quality. It is a pity to say this, but I will not be going back to this fish bar in a hurry, if at all. I can make my own, with very fresh fish and lovely chips so I will stick to that.

We stayed in Forfar for a week last year and again this year and visited the chip shop on 2 occasions each time. The fish suppers were excellent - large portions (the last time we bought them, each had 1.5 fish in them!), well cooked - crispy batter - and plenty of chips. We could not have asked for better. They were very hot - we carried them from the shop to our holiday apartment (about 3 mins walk away) and they were still piping hot when we opened them. Telephone orders only at present, but always ready at time you are told. Will definitely be back again when we next visit Forfar!

My wife treated me to a fish tonight .At 10 past 6 she phoned to say it would not be ready until 6 30.Well at 6 37 we sat down to eat on opening the box my first thought was this is not hot.Plates warmed fish on plate were Luke warm .Surely they can’t get cold in that short a time..

Have been coming here for while now, purely because the fish is always perfectly cooked for me, moist with a perfectly crisp batter. Chips are good, yes they could do with giving a bigger portion, it is after all £7.50 for a fish supper.Downside, 5p for a paper bag ? its not plastic !

Great food but at the moment you have to order by phone and pay on collection by credit card. It does ensure that everything is freshly cooked !

I ordered a haddock fish supper from North Street Fish and Chips and to say I was disappointed was putting it mildly. The piece of fish was the smallest piece of fish I have ever seen. How they can justify charging £7.50 for this is disgusting. First time I have ever been and definitely the last. Very poor value for money and certainly nothing like the picture.

Was disappointed to find 2 chicken nuggets in a kiddies meal, some chips were undercooked!

We drove eight miles, arrived at 20.15. It says that they close at 21.00. They shut as we arrived.

Some of the best fish I've ever had really nice big pieces only drawback there's no place to sit in here it's all take out. It smells so good when you enter. They are very nice and helpful, very clean restaurant. In busy times it can get packed inside waiting for and ordering food so stay cool and be nice to everyone. I will be coming back to this place for sure and you should also come back over and over. Parking is just on the street around the business.

Absolutely outstanding gluten free fish, chips and pineapple rings! We love coming here on GF saturdays. Staff are always so friendly and helpful, the quality of the food is amazing, great portions, everything is very fresh and so delicious! Thanks again for a brilliant experience. Coeliac heaven!!

The worst fish supper I have ever had,dry fish that had been frozen,greasy chips,chicken was also very dry,and it is way overpriced.Wont be back.

Really enjoy the food from here but portion sizes are getting smaller and smaller. Worth trying another chippy to avoid disappointment!

Visited here whilst in the area briefly, I wished I hadn't bothered! I ordered 3 small bags of chips at £1.50 each and a medium bag at £2.20. I received about 10 chips in each bag, it wasn't even a third full. I actually struggled to tell which was the medium portion. Total rip off, my children and myself were still hungry afterwards, will not return and I've warned friends and family this chip shop is a rip off.

Got 2 sausage suppers. Very tasty however could not believe the small amount of chips we were given. Could have done with another scoop at least to cover the bottom of the box. This could easily have been a 4 or 5 star review but for the miserly portion.

Well what can you I say about North Street chippy. Visited the chip shop ordered a special fish didn't realise the portions were so small when I opened the box it was the size of a gold fish.

Had a fish supper from here last night with my brother. Crispy fish batter and fish was perfectly fried, zero soggy bits and the chips were ace too. Brother mentioned too late that you can get a mock chop here! I have not had one of those for about 50 years so know what I am having next time. F A B U L O U S FISH. Thanks.

A regular bag of chips in England would be enough for two, and have some over, here just enough for one and twice the price.

Got a single fish and haggis supper think the staff cut the fish in half and you couldn't really call the haggis a supper there were about 10 edible chips the rest of them were wee crisp runts. Staff weren't customer friendly they were all doom and gloom as for the price its terrible what they charge. My advice go to another chippy.

Every time you go to this chip shop it's hit or miss.Had visitors on Saturday night & everything was lovely, visited yesterday & it was awful, fish was hard & chips unbeatable, threw them in the bin.wont be going back.

Once again, we found ourselves in North Street, Forfar, heading for the best chipper in close enough proximity to our home to have become our regular. And, as usual, no regrets in our choice of venue. Both the chips and the fish ordered were cooked from start to finish before my very eyes and not a whole minute elapsed between the time they were handed over in the shop until the moment, in our car, when we opened the boxes and set about our fish suppers. And finally, no problems in the presentation and the very nice taste of our food. Try it yourself, the staff are all friendly and the fare is excellent. An asset to the County Town.

This is a decent Fish and Chip shop. Seems very busy and thats always a good sign. Had the Haddock Fish Supper which was very good, not that many chips but the fish was well cooked so no complaints
