An excellent evening, superb food and pleasant attentive staff.

The freshness of the seafood, the quality of the preparation, and the attention to detail made this meal truly memorable. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for the best seafood dining experience in town.

Sadly we were not able to experience no 88, although it comes highly recomended by others. There were a few vegetarian options online when we got to the restaurant the only vegetarian starter was bread and the only vegetarian main option was pasta. Went to the Dowry instead.

Delightful local food and excellent service. Some interesting wines that were sensibly priced. Very busy when we visited so a bit cramped up but the food more than made up for that. One of the more expensive meals of our visit but worth it to me for the menu and quality offered.

We made a reservation for lunch and arrived on time at 12.30. We were escorted to our table, but after waiting for almost 15 minutes we got the attention of a waiter who finally took our food order including a pot of tea for two. After another 35 minutes we were getting concerned that not only our tea hadn't arrived, but when the table opposite us who had ordered after us received their order we were getting rather upset. We were just about to complain when the waitress who showed us to our table when we first arrived, came to our table and apologised for not taking our order sooner - some 50 minutes ago since we sat down at our table! We informed her the young waiter took our order 35 minutes ago. She went away briefly and returned to inform us the waiter had FAILED to take our order to the kitchen. Although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy at the time, having wasted 50 minutes of our afternoon we vacated the establishment uttering words of disgust to the staff at the counter. Regardless of the restaurant's apparent good rating, we shall never bother to return to that establishment again.

Very popular restaurant that is n Lerwick that is well worth a visit. Lovely menu. Highly recommend the scallop starter

We informed her the young waiter took our order 35 minutes ago. She went away briefly and returned to inform us the waiter had FORGOTTEN to take our order to the kitchen! Although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy at the time, having now wasted 50 minutes of our afternoon we vacated the establishment uttering words of disgust to the staff at the counter. We live in Shetland, but regardless of its apparent good rating, we shall never bother to return to that establishment again. Review submitted 7th September 2024.

Fanatically attentive staff and a wonderful menu made up of largely local Shetland produce. I would definitely recommend.

Exceeded expectations. We have not found it easy to find good evening meal locations in Shetland. However, this restaurant had a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, lovely staff and excellent food. Local produce was cooked with flair and you could really enjoy the freshness of the ingredients.

Came here for dinner with a knitting tour group. I had the Scallops starter and Lamb main. The scallops were large, tender and not overcooked. The lamb was 3 different cuts, all well done. I prefer my lamb medium rare, but was not asked. Hopefully this was just due to the meal being preordered. Despite that, the lamb was tender. Asparagus and potatoes were nicely done sides, and small pieces of octopus was a pleasant and tasty touch. Definitely recommended.

A great place to go for excellent food. Very friendly service and they serve rather quickly. I had mussels and the lamb. The mussels were of superior quality - local, fresh and clean. One can tell from the shiny and smooth surface of the shells. The lamb was very well spiced and tasted heavenly. I highly recommend this place for dinner if you visit lerwick.

Food was OK - although what was available did not match the menu advertised online. We had all 5 starters, which were perfectly acceptable, and decided to skip the main course as there was time pressure for them to get the table back. The only dessert was a very odd and far too sweet 'cheesecake'. But the wine! Young lad serving was friendly - but no training whatsoever. We'd gone for their most expensive red - which he brought to the table with the top removed and simply plonked it down with a cheerful 'Enjoy!'. We duly served ourselves, and when the bill arrived, requested a cork to take the remaining half bottle away. At this, an extremely snippy 'manageress' informed us that that was 'illegal' and she would 'lose her licence' were she to accede to our request. It was pointed out to her that this is a perfectly normal procedure in UK restaurants, but she insisted that it could not be done in Lerwick. Her aggressive manner created a most unpleasant impression, and we left, speculating as to whether she then might have sold at least two glasses to other customers from what remained in the bottle.

It is important to book because it usually fills up, especially on cruise days. Very well prepared food with open kitchen. It is advisable to order local beer. We had a roast beef sandwich and haddock fish and chips with tartar sauce.

Absolutely top marks and the partner even went up to the chefs and thanked them which he doesn't usually do... we are glad we booked a table so we could enjoy this super delicious food...

Absokutely amazing food. My dinner companion said it was the best lamb she had ever eaten. One tip: Lerwick restaurants book up, sometime days in advance. So book as early as you can.

We visited for lunch, and had a booking, which was needed. Whilst the restaurant is billed as Filipino, British and fusion, the menu seemed a little mainstream to us. Perhaps that was because it was lunchtime, or maybe because we spent years in Asia. Still, the fish and chips were excellent, and the bottle of ‘22 Albariño was a fine complement. Modern decor and ambiance, friendly and quick service, in the middle of Commercial Street. Recommended.

We wanted to have dinner here but were unlucky as all booked up but we were lucky enough today to go in at lunchtime, just before the rush and get a table. The service was AAA+++. Loved that they had different meals, other than fish and chips, on the menu. I chose the beef tacos and my partner had the beef & horseradish sandwich. They both came with chips. The meals did not disappoint. This is such a lovely Cafè restaurant, with a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are a credit as they were very attentive and the food came out quickly. Highly impressed and recommend this Cafè restaurant when in Lerwick. But book early for dinner.

We had a booking for 2:00. The only notification I received was that they would need the table back by 3:15, no problem. I confirmed the booking again the next day when prompted. I also called and let them know we would have bags with us as we would be getting on the ferry later that afternoon and made sure there was space for them. We arrived a little late about 2:15 because of our cab being a bit delayed and were told they could give us nothing except fish and chips because it was after 2:00. And then they wanted us to make that decision within a couple of minutes as even that one options was about to be unavailable. They were so rude and I felt so rushed out and uncomfortable, we just left and went next door to The Dowry where we had had a nice experience the day before and it was great again and they were very accommodating without a booking. We had even skipped hiking around St Ninians Isle to come eat at No 88 WITH an advanced booking and this was just appalling in so many ways, especially considering we had gone out of the way specifically to eat there. I don't know how the food is and I really don't care, I would never try to eat here ever again. I highly recommend The Dowry though after 3 excellent experiences (2 for food, 1 for just drinks). We also ate at C'est La Vie for dinner one evening and I highly recommend that as well. Avoid this rude restaurant.

We weren't kept waiting long for any courses and drinks, the food was exceptional and locally sourced, the service was fantastic, as a family we all had three courses each which is unusual for us but everthing we had was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and we wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Delicious place for lunch or dinner, awesome staff, and great place to go for either a quick bite or a longer meal. A must try.

The food we had was great, only a small menu and that is where I believe they could improve. Great seafood in Shetland and yes they did have mussels and scallops on the menu, this could be expanded to include more fish in my opinion. They have very little competition in Shetland and so really they don't need to push themselves, which I'm sure they are capable of. Highly recommend and you must book.

We were so disappointed, I found the place on Google search at rate 4.8. I saw the food. It should be fantastic. But unfortunately, the whole store run by a group of teenager kids., food is ok , but with three empty table, the holster put me next to the kitchen door. For the whole time I smelled the kitchen. Heavy oil smell. It is very unpleasant time. We ordered a seafood soup, every other table order the same has a bread come with it the waiter did not give it to us. Sorry , I will not suggest to anyone .

A lovely meal on the main shopping retail high street in Lerwick. There was a cruise ship berthed nearby so the restaurant was busy. Without those tourist visits, most of Lerwick would crumble. The food was really excellent (lamb brisket and chops, and signature fish and chips), well cooked and presented. We had two cocktails, two glasses of wine, each had two courses all for £97. Top marks!

Service good, however some items are over priced, 2 small portions of scallops for starters cost £24.00 and the vegetarian main dish was overpriced compared to other restaurants we have visited . on a positive the lamb dish was excellent .

Excellent meal in the centre of Lerwick. The food and service were impeccable. Short menu which always gives me confidence. I had scallops to start and then amazing 9 hour lamb. Booking is essential!

The food is excellent here. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Not a huge range of dishes but there’s something to cater for everyone.

I thoroughly recommend eating here. The oysters were excellent, the best I’ve had, and the lamb was fantastic. Service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting.

Delicious food, fantastic staff, great prices and the freshest fish I have EVER tasted and I mainly eat only fish. Can't wait to return in May 2025 and visit again.

Make sure you book this one - it's popular and gets very busy very quickly (Book online!) The Signature Fish and Chips is very generous!!

Best fish and chips in the world.

Despite the food being excellent, the service was extremely rushed as the staff were churning people as quickly as possible to finish their meal and pay so they could get another group seated. We sat down, ordered our cocktail and almost immediately our food arrived before we had a chance to finish our cocktails. The experience was not a relaxing one. Also, one of our waiters was only 15 years old. He was doing his best; however his inexperience was evident when it came to the wine list and selections. Good food - but rushed.

Very disappointed ☹️ We are visiting Shetland for a few days and booked No88. Quite sparse surroundings, little ambiance/charisma/atmosphere and no USP or personality. As a retired restauranteur let me suggest: you inform guests of the time they should vacate the table at the outset not minutes before the next customers arrive. You look at portion size and quality in relation to the price (we weren't the only people to be surprised by meagre portions), finally ensure your card machine can accommodate tips. We were unable to leave anything as we don't carry cash any longer. This is surely an oversight and I imagine easily rectified. We will not be returning and will not be recommending.

A Great Place !! I was fortunate enough to luck into a table last night. OYSTERS WOW !! Pork Belly starter and the beef carpaccio were all good. You gotta eat here (as the man sez) !!

Delicious food, the Shetland lamb with vegetables was very good accompanied by Yorkshire pudding. I recommend it!!

Loved the ricotta and spinach lasagna and veggies terrine! Seriously the best food I've had in probably last 6 months. The service was amazing and the staff were super friendly. If I had more time I'd definitely be going back.

Outstanding! Delicious from the first bite to the last. It is recommended to make a reservation as it tends to be quite full all the time. The staff is lovely and all the food is sourced locally. One thing I would highlight as an improvement to make, upgrade from paper to cloth napkins.

The best meal we've had in a long time!!!! Did not want it to end! Mussels so fresh and delicious, scallops the best we've ever had, lamb and brisket melt in the mouth. Jackie could not be more helpful or friendly or welcoming. Wouldn't hesitate to return!

We had top notch food here one night in January, The service from the staff was very good and their service complimented the food we had superbly. The mussels some of us had for the starter was mouthwatering brilliant, tip order some of their homemade bread to go with it. You won't want to waste any of the sauce by it going back to the kitchen. The main dishes portion are just fine decent sized without being too much. The beef dish and the fish and chips we all ordered we all so enjoyable, we would go back in a flash if we lived in Shetland. The good thing is we visit quite regularly and we will certainly be back to No 88 on our next visit if at all possible.

Food was ABSOLUTELY faaaaantastic: lamb was so tender, juicy, and that I could cut it even with blunt knife... and the flavour, taste... heaven in the mounth :) all the sides really good as well... One scratch on the perfectly smooth 'surface': tea - the water was undrinkable, at least for me, I am used to filtered water and not tap, chlorin smell and taste water. Defo will back but... not for tea... Picture is taken during the meal because I had to stop myself before I finished... it was soooooo good...

Went here the evening of Up Helly Aa and had a great time. The service is incredible, when we sat down 4 people in the first minute asked us if we needed to order drinks. The wait staff is very friendly and the food was delicious. Would definitely come back.

We had an amazing dinner at n°88! The food was delicious at fare prices. All the seafood was great but I would highlight the scallops over all. The service was unbeatable. Quick and kind. Do not miss it if you have the chance!

Quite simply one of the best Sunday roast dinners I've ever had. Perfect. And yes, it's worth the money.

We ate here for lunch and it was great! Really interesting menu with a lot of thought put in. The food was great, obviously prepared on site and with good quality ingredients. I think we all had difficulty choosing what to eat - that is a good thing!

Fantastic food. Wonderful to see an establishment using local produce and supporting their community. ..... and the food was second-to-none. i had the locally-sourced belly pork to start, which was just superb - perhaps the fatty outer rind could have been crisped up a bit, but it was delicious nonetheless, with great contrasting flavours between the different ingredients. I thought the starter would be difficult to beat, but then I had the local Tulloch's lamb for main....... I would normally not choose lamb, but thank goodness I did on this occasion. I suspected that Shetland lamb might be a cut above, and it definitely was just that! The loin portion was like velvet, and the braised portion so tender. The trimmings and veg were cooked al dente to perfection. Perhaps the chips could have been slightly more crispy with a bit more colour, but were also very tasty, to be honest I am struggling to find fault. The chairs were a little hard, but the fantastic quality of the food certainly overshadowed the seating. Service was great too - very efficient. I would score a six out of five for the food if I could. ...... Has to be said, it is better than many highly acclaimed places.

Our 1st visit last Saturday early evening. Food and service was top notch . Especially when the next table was noisy. The young staff handled well as they escorted us up stairs to have our sweet and coffee. If all goes well we will be back next year

Outstanding meal on our bi-annual visit to Shetland. Excellent varied menu, food was prepared and cooked to perfection. Beef brisket was best I’d had anywhere. Service was fabulous and with personality

Great local produce. The provenance of the food I eat is important to me and this restaurant showcases Shetland's wonderful seafood and lamb at their finest. Worth having a dessert. They are interesting and home made, instead of the usual boring choices. Lovely young staff who are well trained and supervised and can give and take a bit of banter. Lovely lady in charge. We visited twice during wool week and had a great experience each time. The second time my husband was choked with cold and the owner made him a hot toddy. A lovely kind gesture and much appreciated. Equally good experience when we dined in July during Tall Ships Week. If a restaurant excels during really busy periods, it's at the top of its game. First class and best of all, no dogs present in the restaurant so I felt safe, in a hygienic place and remained allergy free. The Dowry also enjoys a good reputation, but the presence of a mutt right at the front of the restaurant put me off going in.

Had the best Fish and chips and Seafood soup. The Chef is a Filipino married to a Scottish girl. He personally buys the mussels, Fish, prawns from local fishermen . A most memorable meal.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent meal and would dine there again. Food was delicious I had pasta my husband fish n chips with a lemon posset for dessert. If you in Shetland don’t miss this spot.

This is mine and my partner's favourite place to eat on Shetland. The amount of times people have asked 'wheres good to eat?' No question, the answer is always no88. The food is phenomenal and the service is flawless but what really stands out is just how at home you are made to feel from the moment you step in. Words really don't do this business justice. It's a try and see to believe.

Whilst the food and service were both excellent, everything came a little too quickly and (maybe wrongly) we felt a little rushed. It was a Friday night and very busy, but we were out within an hour of arrival, having had two courses each - not a relaxing experience really. We saw people asked to leave their tables when they’d finish eating and move to an upstairs bar area, presumably to get more people in. Could have been better but given a “very good” for the food quality.

We went in for a nice dinner and were dazzled by the quality. Everything was delicious. The scallop appetizer was to die for! The crab special really was special - perfectly cooked.

While the coffee was pretty good, I refused to pay 50p extra for oat milk. This is daylight robbery and discriminates against those who cannot tolerate dairy or who are vegan.

After 5 weeks roadtrip through Scotland we couldn’t find a place where we ate any better, especially for the price. Delicious food, very nice stuff and a really cozy restaurant. If it wouldn’t be so far, I’d go there all the time. Just perfect!

Bookings, especially on a Sunday in the Summer are a must. Lots of people who didn’t booked were continually turned away. We had a roast dinner which was as good as you’d get at home and tasty lentil soup. Set menu for Sundays.

We made reservations in advance and were very happy we did. This is a small, modern restaurant in Lerwick with great food. We had Shetland mussels-I wanted a spoon for the broth it was so good. We also had fish with a very tasty curry...

Excellent menu with freshly and flavorfully prepared food. Quite creative and delicious takes on some of the standard Shetland fare. Staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. After dinner I headed upstairs where they have an equally lovely cocktail lounge for a pre or post dinner drink too.

Delicious food, I ate the cooked mussels. All seafood is super fresh. Mostly local products that are used. The staff is friendly but lacks structure, which meant that there was a long wait for drinks, two different menus were in circulation and the serving of the food was chaotic.

Lovely restaurant- locally sourced food and intimate setting. I had a delicious beef dish and really enjoyed my meal.

Went for our Golden wedding celebration with family. The meal was excellent and the service was superb especially Angela whose advice on wines etc was much appreciated.

Do not miss an opportunity to eat here while in Lerwick! The food was absolutely gorgeous, truly exceptional. We had the 9hr beef brisket and the hake. Sweet Jesus what a meal! Great drinks options and the staff were so perceptive and friendly. Great to see very young staff that are so capable.
