Words can't express how incredible this place is, I cannot recommend it enough. I booked it for my husband's 40th birthday and the owner and staff could not have done more for us. Incredible food - beautifully cooked unique and creative dishes, our whole party enjoyed absolutely every mouthful - we all had different things. Amazing friendly, attentive service over email prior to our visit and whilst there, including a very generous gesture of a free drink for my mother in law. Other reviews say it's a hidden gem - this is spot on! We enjoyed rum flights before our meal, the Rum Rooms below the restaurant have a spectacular selection of rums. Totally made my husband's special birthday. You just have to go here - don't hesitate, you won't regret it! We aren't from the area but will be coming back for this place.

Our October visit was our second time at No. 7, it is by far the best restaurant in Doncaster. The food is beyond fantastic, the different flavours that are on your plate put a smile on your face. Ian is the most accommodating host, always makes time to chat and makes you feel extremely welcome. As soon as we’re allowed to go to restaurants again, this will be my first outing, especially for the sticky toffee pudding!!!!

We have eaten here on numerous occasions and is truly the best restaurant in Doncaster centre. Locally sourced produce, tasty food and drinks and great options whether you’re a carnivore or vegan. The service is always fab too. This place should be number 1 on trip advisor and is a real hidden gem!I would recommend the vegan gyoza, the tempura goats cheese, the tofu steaks and the mushroom stroganoff which is AMAZING.Beautifully cooked, gorgeously presented food with a local and international twist. I’m shocked at the top few restaurants showing in trip advisor for Doncaster at the moment. Really poor when you have this gem of a place just down the road.X

Nicely presented delicious food, friendly service, good value for money. We both enjoyed each of the 3 courses. Informed by the owner that the menu is about to be refreshed. Ate here on a weekend and found the food to be very tasty. The chef clearly knows what he is doing and all of the food was very flavourful. We dined as one meat eater and a vegetarian and both really enjoyed our food. The risotto I had was served with bread- which it didn't really need- but was absolutely delicious. The chocolate brownie for desert was also a highlight. One slight consideration is that the menu that was advertised on the Rum Rooms website is different to the one in the restaurant. This was slightly disappointing as there was a certain dish I wanted to try but was not a big issue. Also, we found the service to be fine but there was definitely room for improvement.Overall the food was great and we would definitely come again to try some of the other dishes on offer.

There were six of us celebrating my Birthday, we have not eaten at the Rum Rooms for a couple of years now.The menu on the website included Tapas which we were looking forward to, but apparently this is not served on a weekend.Firstly can I say our waitress, the only one for the night was miserable, surely part of the whole dining experience is also the staff that take your order and brings you your food and drink.4 of us had a starter, which included 2 fish cakes, a mutton curry and pan roasted pigeon. All well presented, the fish cakes were hugh but lacked flavour, they had a lot of potatoe in them, the Mutton curry had a nice flavour, and the Pigeon was a bit over done. The mains included two jerk chickens, Mushroom Stroganoff, and two ox cheeks, and a venison. The Stroganoff was delicious, the Ox cheek melted in the mouth, and the Venison was good to, all presented beautifuly. There was a good selection of Rums and Cocktails, only one Rose wine by the glass which was Zinfandel, which is too sweet for me.The offer of water for the table would have been nice. When dining out it is all the little added extras that make the difference, so that you stand out from the rest, yes the food is good, served fresh, and cooked by a Chef that is passionate about food. But if you are served by someone who did not seem to care one bit, and could not break in to a smile, because she really did not want to be there, what is the point. We would like to try again, but not sure if we will.

We popped in for dinner but we'll not be going back. Here's the bill:1 x Warner Rhubarb Gin - £3.801 x Fentimans (Small) tonic water - £1.501 x Corona Beer - £3.701 x Rabbit Ragu served in a small metal skillet pan - £17.951 x Indian Spiced Steak served on a piece of slate - £18.00 Total £44.95 for two. Two meals and two drinks, in Doncaster.I called the mobile number to book a table and no one answered, someone did call me back later in the day so I made my table booking for two. When we arrive the upstairs dining are was empty, when we left it was the same and now I know why. The staff service itself was fine but the food was just way off the mark for the prices charged. The steak I ordered is the one shown on the website and it was a cheap cut not sirloin or even rump. The waitress explained that it was a cut of meat from below the diaphragm and it was best cooked rare or medium rare, I asked for mine to be cooked rare. When served it was barely warm and was cooked brown with no blushing at all. I'm sorry but for that price I want my food cooked that way I ask for it, especially after following the advice of the staff. The waitress spoke with the 'Chef' and he told her he 'Didn't know how that happened' so they offered us two free drinks. How can he possibly not know how he overcooked the steak !! He's the bloody chef !! I must also add that I have no clue where they get the idea of the meat being 'Spiced' it was bland and was only flavoured by the overly sweet sauce they drizzled over it for artistic effect. Now, onto the wife's Rabbit Ragu. It didn't impress either of us and was mainly bland save for the overpowering flavor of the added juniper berries, too many in our opinion. The meal itself was beige, save for the juniper berries. Basically, I paid £17.95 for a small handful of pasta and maybe seven small lumps of rabbit meat (might have been chicken), served in a slightly warm skillet style pan. The steak was served on a piece of slate which some may find quirky but I'd rather they throw it on the table top, properly cooked, than get all arty farty with a piece of slate and a skillet pan. By the time we'd paid the kitchen had been cleaned up by the 'Chef' and no one else was in the room. After paying we went downstairs into the bar as we actually went to watch a.......After this part of the review Trip Advisor cut off the text so I can't tell you the rest. I thought this was supposed to be an open forum for advice................

Christmas meal out with friends to this warm, funky restaurant. Interesting decor, open kitchen, friendly and efficient service topped off with an excellent menu catering for everyone’s differing tastes including vegetarian and gluten free options. Really enjoyed the baked figs wrapped with prosciutto ham and followed it with a very tasty vegetable risotto of the day! Was pleasantly full but certainly felt tempted by the Winter Crumble and brownies on the dessert menu. Delicious food and a very pleasant ambience. From the moment we walked in we felt comfortable. Nice welcome, bar staff were busy but didn't ignore us. The place is dark with mismatched wooden furniture, but thats what gives this place a comfortable feeling. It also has a lovely outdoor area. First visit last night. Food overall was delicious I had the sweet potato cake starter followed by the jerk chicken which was excellent others in the party had mutton curry and pigeon for starters followed by rib eye steak and the lamb dish all of which were beautifully cooked and presented. Service was a bit erratic though and no one really paid attention to asking what drinks we wanted, however the staff seemed friendly and welcoming. Cheese board was the part that let the evening down for me as there were only 2 different cheeses on it. We had asked for the selection for 2 people so very disappointing for me as I am a big cheese fan. There was a good atmosphere in the restaurant which I would describe as cosy. Would certainly eat here again and recommend giving it a try.

So firstly when we entered there was no one to meet us and take us to our table so we went to the bar and asked where we go and he directed us upstairs which was fine but there was no one there to seat us so we just picked our own table, sat down and hoped we’d get service. Food was really nice, no complaints from any of us but it didn’t match the hefty price tag. I personally thought the food was overpriced. There was little atmosphere as it was only us and one other table in there which confused me as I wanted to book for 8 and was advised they were fully booked so I had to book for 7 instead yet at 8 the whole restaurant was free. Overall it’s ok, we had a nice evening but I don’t feel wowed enough to rush back.

The second round someone else went to the bar and was told they’d run out of old fashioned... run out, ha, ha. If you don’t want to make it anymore then take it off the menu... Lazy.

I have not been here for nearly 2 years and wondered if it would be as good as the last time I visited, and I was not disappointed! There were 5 of us there for dinner, and we all really enjoyed our meals. One member of our party is a vegetarian and it can sometimes be hard for her to find a meal that is not cheese and/or mushroom based, so she was pleasantly surprised to find the vegetarian options were very different and she said it was better than anywhere else she's had in Doncaster. I had the ackee and salt fish as starter, and I would give it 10 out of 10. My main was the lamb. It was cooked perfectly... not over done and not raw.... nice and pink. I was interested to see how the hot pineapple sauce would go with the lamb, and I was surprised with how well it worked. It was delicious. I had strawberry and pineapple crumble for desert and it was fab! Unfortunately could not finish it as I think I got carried away! The wine we ordered was good and I could not fault the cocktails either. The staff were lovely and attentive. The chef came out to speak to customers, and I thought this was a lovely touch as it felt that he really cared about customers opinions about his food/creations. Loved it all and will defiantly not leave it for another 2 years that's for sure! Thanks guys for a lovely evening!

However, I feel the Rum Rooms deserve particular praise for the quality of their food, it's simply the best I've had in Doncaster. Seating is upstairs, with no disabled access, however, they will make space downstairs for wheelchair users' with ease.As far as restaurants go, this is small (maybe 26 covers).. However, please remember that it's often the case that the nicest surprises come in the smallest packages.A distinctly Caribbean feel and an attention to detail when it comes to the balance of flavours is beautifully represented in their small but thoughtful menu. All locally sourced produce, cooked in a kitchen you can see, by people who obviously have a love for what they do - all make for a truly lovely dining experience.Starters: Mutton Curry, spicy and well tender, in a small iron pot.  Could have done with some bread to make sure none of the sauce was wasted - a true West Indian Classical dish that would carry itself with pride as a main course. My woman (lol) had the Pigeon - again, cooked perfectly, and with the addition of local Black pudding, worked superbly.Mains: My Lamb was immaculate, and obviously cooked by someone who both knows, and loves Lamb.  Accompanying veg were crisp, as veg should be - again, some bread to soak that luscious sauce please! My partner (she knows her food and can outcook almost ANY West Indian chef) had the delightfully succulent jerk chicken.  To be honest, this could have been a bit more punchy but cooking proper jerk for a UK palate isn't easy. The decor is Jamaican Rustic, the service is sweet, it's clean and it's worth the continued attempts to get through on the phone - or email - or text in order to book. And the value?  Stonkingly good!I'll add a photo of the bill, this is a complete bargain and a truly wonderful treat.  Long live Number 7!We will be back.Basheeeee!

I should start by saying this was for a birthday, so a special occasion, so to have a large part of the experience be anything less that 5/5 is pretty bad. From making a booking here, to trying to get out from my seat after finishing the meal, the night was hard work. We'd heard good things, mostly from couples who have been before, about the restaurant, atmosphere and food, and we wanted to try it out for this night out.To start at the beginning, they don't answer the phone. I get it, they're busy, and maybe using methodologies of lean manufacturing to keep the place profitable (i.e. not employing a person to sit by the phone taking bookings), but still, if you advertise a number to call to book a table, pick up. Or answer a message. As it seemed time to chat on the dog and bone wasn't readily available, we tried the new fangled emailing type thing, again, using the email address advertised. Yes! Answered! But alas, no, we were told to email a different address to make a reservation (why not advertise that email address you say?). On emailing the second address, we were told to telephone the original number. You can't write this stuff! On starting to believe that only people with the tenacity of Nelson Mandela get in for a meal, we rang the number again. And, yes an answer! But no, the diary wasn't available so could they call us back? Yes of course. This went on for longer, believe it or not, but to cut the story slightly shorter, we eventually we got a ring back. To book, we were told we had to pay a £10 deposit each and had to pre-order a week in advance? OK, well it was a big group and at least it guaranteed us that whatever delicious morsels were on the menu would be available and cooked to perfection right (remember this point, it's important)? To the night itself..... the place is lovely. Live music and a bar that makes you feel like a little person, an amazing drinks selection and good atmosphere. The restaurant is nice too, very small but good lighting and you can see the kitchen which is a good touch. So, to the food. Who ordered the Baby Back Ribs? Ah the birthday boy! Sorry we don't have any, would you like some thing else? Er no, but thank you, I only ordered it a week ago, maybe that's not long enough to get to the shops? We were starting to get a little perturbed buy this as availability seemed to be the main reason we pre-ordered and to be honest I was disappointed by my starter. It was a very good likeness to packaged sliced bread. Yes I mean like 50/50. Nice for brekky, but not what I expected in a nice restaurant for the money. I think the other starters seemed OK. Everyone was making good noises anyway.Mains were good I thought. I had duck which was lovely to be honest. The big issue with the mains was one of the steaks which was ordered rare, was well done when it came to the table. Massive disappointment after waiting a week for that steak. But it's OK we thought, they'll be able to sort it as it's not cheap, you want it cooked right, right? However, on notifying the waitress of the overcooked steak, we were told there was no steak left, so we would have to order something else, they had lamb left? OK then lamb it is...The final straw was on asking for the special birthday drink for the birthday boy or girl as advertised on the website. This was met with blank looks all round, and as the waitresses whispered and pointed at us from the corner, we decided to leave after they had decided if we could have the drink or not.... You can probably guess we didn't stay for another, and skipped out to find somewhere to grab a drink and ponder what had just happened.

In order of importance:Attitude - Staff wise nobody seemed to want to be there which most probably resulted in the following errors/failures.Loo Seat - No loo seat in the gents loo at a supposed "fine dining" establishment. When questioned was told it's because they get stolen. Not acceptable. If they get stolen one a day then buy thirty a month or install tamper proof fittings. It shows blatant disrespect for customers and H&S no doing so.Food Ordering - Pain ordering prior with the added cheek of paying £10 per person deposit. Now if the food was amazing it potentially wouldn't have been an issue.Food Quality - Not great. Steak didn't look like a great cut and in addition my "rare" steak came out like it had been cooked (due to inconsistency) in one of those actifry contraptions. Certainly not rare and as they had no steak left I had to have something else. I love steak so in general, gutted.Overall not great and will not visit again. Whilst trying to put my finger on it all I could come up with is it felt like the management have a "you're so lucky to be here so appreciate it" attitude. So sort out basic sanitary needs, smile more/be inviting, maybe a bit of retraining on steak preparation and listen to customers. Looking at some previous reviews I am repeating points made already.

I have had drinks downstairs but this was my first visit upstairs for a meal and I was not disappointed. Thai fishcakes followed by duck and finishing off with the cheese for two was first class. Staff are lovely and the food is excellent. Its a lovely little restaurant, ideal for a special occasion and I hope it continues to go from strength to strength. Highly recommend.

No.7 at The Rum Rooms delivered impeccable service, food and ambience this Valentine's Day (2017); all of which was delivered with the ease and grace we've found on previous visits. On booking we were offered a table at 20:45, which suited our schedules. The opportunity to enjoy a drink in the bar downstairs, to the mellow tones of the live singer were very much appreciated. These tunes wafted upstairs where we were seated promptly but allowed to deliberate over the menu without being hassled. Firm favourited (duck and sea bass) were on the menu and were cooked to perfection! The portions are substantial for a restaurant of this caliber (I have eaten in several others where you get considerably less for your money) but not too much, so you still have room for dessert. Ian took the time to visit each table to ensure everyone was happy with there meals, and his recommendation of the brownie for dessert was on the money!A fabulous experience all round, and the perfect way to spend a romantic meal together. Thank you to all the staff and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Fantastic fun!Starting at 3.30pm for a friends birthday. £19.95 each. You get a potted history of rum, and try each one along the way!The bartenders are great fun, and show you how to make cocktails.. you then get to choose your own and make it yourself... The birthday choose a cocktail for herself and finally a "cocktail off" with teams making their own cocktail and the bartenders choosing the winner!Would highly recommended! Book an afternoon and then book supper afterwards.. food is sublime. Can wait for the Gin rooms

Was lucky enough to be invited to a wedding reception here and having heard such good reviews couldn't wait, pleased to say I wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious. Service if I'm honest was a little bit slow but I guess getting 30 covers out at the same time is difficult, particularly when such attention to detail is given to each serving. The staff themselves were lovely and friendly and very attentive. Really enjoyed the atmosphere downstairs when we'd finished eating, quirky decor and drinks reasonably priced.Wouldn't hesitate to recommend as a wedding venue if you want a small intimate party.

We booked this for a Christmas meal in December and it was 3 courses for £20.The meat eaters loved it and enjoyed both their starters and main courses.I had a vegetarian starter and ordered the vegetarian mushroom with chickpeas. Both were vegan meals so there was no cheese/cream/eggs ingredients to the meal. The mushroom with chickpeas was a large field mushroom, very pretty with a ring of very fine chopped cucumeber, tomato and onion. I was offered no potatoes or vegetables. My partner had to ask for some and it was agreed with no apologies and arrived 5 minutes later - enough time to eat a field mushroom.I noted the a la carte menu on the wall offers the mushroom with chickpeas for £9:50?Later the landlady (who was also a veggie) said 'well you had chickpeas'.These were about 6 in number.I admire the Rum Rooms as I feel the chefs do try really hard and its a lovely place to be, as is The Masons. However, I think they do need to consider whether a field mushroom is enough as a main course and why would a vegetarian not also be served vegetables and potatoes?

I have been to rum rooms twice before and had a nice meal and so recommended this place to my family. I really wish I hadn't. Once we booked and paid £40 deposit I messaged the restaurant asking if they would be able to offer an alternative meal for me as I am vegetarian and the meal in the menu I have had twice. I didn't receive a reply however wasn't worried as most restaurants are more than willing to suggest something else I could have. When we got there however they refused!! It was the pea risotto or the mushroom with chickpeas and nothing else. I explained I really didn't like peas (I know I'm fussy) was there no way they could do something without peas or chickpeas. Again the answer was no! Luckily the waitress was also vegetarian and argued with the chef on my behalf and they reluctantly agreed to do the mushroom without chickpeas. Moving on,the starters were being brought out and the other waitress dropped one of my dad's fish cake balls down my step mum's back. The sauce ran all down her back and on her jacket. The waitress said sorry and then carried on! It was terrible you would have expected some genuine apology and offer of compensation but we didn't get any. As my dad's starter was now ruined he waited a further 10 minutes for his whilst we ate ours. Not great when you came to eat together. The main meals came and my dad's was cold. It was taken away to heat up however it was still like warm when he brought it back. When the bill came they offered to pay for the dry cleaning of my step mum's dress however the night was still ruined and we had paid a hefty price for a meal which was not great. The food was ok but overall the service and general lack of customer satisfaction spoilt what was supposed to be a great family meal. Sorry we won't be coming back.

Me & my partner had a rare Friday date night so decided to go for food & drinks. As I'd been wanting to go for a while, I was a little worried it wouldn't live up to expectation (I'd heard good things) but the night blew me away! Food was excellent, tasty, well presented & jus enough so your not over bloated. We had the prawns to start which were out of this world!! I had the duck (a bit fatty on the skin but to be expected) cooked to perfection, an he had the onglet steak that didn't disappoint either. Everything on the plate was gone in a matter of minutes which all complimented each other beautifully. The ambience was relaxed an fun, live music which was playing downstairs was at an enjoyable level (we could still have a conversation & listen too) the staff were helpful, friendly & chatty at one point the chef came out to the tables to speak with the guests which I thought was a nice touch. We topped off the night with a rum chaser Anna cocktail or two. Overall a great evening, definitely be coming back again soon Jenny Doncaster born an bred.

First visit here and would definitely recommend it, started with cocktails downstairs then meal upstairs, open kitchen so you can easily see what is happening, chef came out and visited the tables at the end of service, confident and brave to do so. The food was delicious, all four of us had a different starter and they were well presented and very tasty, my Thai fish cakes were the best I've had and my sirloin steak was very tasty. Good to see a menu with limited choice with enough to go at to please most palates, staff attentive but not obtrusive. A great choice for a Friday evening, live music on downstairs which is quite noisy when you are eating but that could be due to our age!!!!Well worth a visit

Booked for hubbies birthday food was lovely. Prawns for starter and pigeons, small portion but very tasty. Main sea bass and I had ox cheek which was beautiful. My grumbles are The plates were cool and veg not hot enough, the meat/fish must have been served last, really the meat/fish should be served on plate first as they hold temperature. Red wine good price but was cold. Shared crackers and cheese, (cracker are not Jacobs crackers another review claimed) they were tasty but only 2 cheeses. Overall food is high quality and 3 course with bottle wine £80. Which is good. We will be back nice to have small quality restaurant. Ended the night listening to the brilliant musician downstairs so talented. Thank you

We normally go to rum rooms when we go to Doncaster, never again after tonight , we ordered a Thai fishcakes for starter , this was nice , small , but what we would expect for a starter , my partner ordered spicy onlet steak , I ordered sirloin steak , to be fair the sirloin was ok , bit fatty but very tasty . My partners , onlet steak was absolutely horrendous. It would probably have been perfect as a starter , but a poor excuse as a main course !!!! 3 tiny pieces of steak , a tiny mount of potatoes, I looked at it and thought OMG he's going to be starving !!!! We are now home after being in the restaurant a total of 45 mins if that . We are now cooking pancakes to fill us up !!!! This steak was £18.00 , and wasn't worth £5.00 !!! The owner came over and asked us if every thing was ok . We fetched this to their attention, but no discount or anything was offered to us , we wanted a dessert , but no way were we risking that being horrendous too .!!!! We won't be returning to this restaurant again unless they sort the chef out !!!! Don't go unless you just need a snack :-(

Had a booking on Saturday night. The first sign of problems was when the barman couldn't pour a glass of protection without filling the glass with bubbles and just left us to pour our own. I had sirloin steak 8oz. The cost was £20 and the steak was tough and full of gristle. Not worthy of the price. That said my wife had duck and enjoyed it but we both agreed that we wouldn't be returning.

The food was lovely, it's such a shame little things spoil it. We had the cheese board at the end and I asked for just a few more crackers. The waitress said well that's a portion, she then asked the other waitress who then chucked a few from the large box of Jacobs pound crackers into a bowl and dropped it on the table as she rushed by. I could see in the kitchen they were Jacobs crackers. Chutney to die for though. The waitress never asked if we wanted a bottle of wine, we had to tell her. The waitress was rushing so much and spilt my husband knife and fork on his lap. Did I enjoy the food yes, but didn't feel it was fine dining.

There were only 3 tables occupied on the Wednesday we ate there, so they were not rushed off their feet. The service was prompt and pleasant. Gin and tonics arrived with blueberries and orange in, presumably they were out of lemons! Odd. The sea bass was moist and well presented, apart from the wet skin which should have been crisped or removed. The sauce was insipid and the courgettes seemed microwaved. 2 of us had this, and they did not appear on the bill, as we were charged for rack of lamb in error. The 'spatchcocked chicken' was just chicken pieces, and similarly very bland though the rice was good. The steak was ok, just average. The 'cheesecake' was a hard biscuit with some sort of sloppy cream mixture put on top later. Never seen anything like it! All in all a very underwhelming experience, and poor value, though they corrected and apologised for the shortcomings. Won't be going back

Any one of an age will know the Mason's and what it represented. A good old fashioned British Pub. The world turns, times change, some will say not for the better. To this I reply grow-up. The present owners are the same old fashioned service providers, just up to date. The bar is still the bar, the back area is now providing what is needed for the next generation of The Masoneers and delivering good food upstairs.I have eaten upstairs 3 times, first a large party on sunday early evening. This is a fixed menu and all orders were pre-booked, we had a great night, the staff were run ragged, it was around christmas, yet nothing was any trouble and the owner came at the end to talk, not just "is your meal ok".Second visit was a small party of 6, three courses excellent, food and service.Third time a very large party for such a small place(14), courses were pre-ordered again. This was less impressive, times between courses and peoples plates arrived at very different times, service was always courteous. The party consisted of people who know food and no-one complained about that, in fact several people were amazed at the quality of cooking. To sum up, go mid week, small party at week-ends and you will not be disappointed.Oh yes, do not expect a cheap pub meal, its not cheap, but that's because it's not a pub meal.

My husband and I go on monthly date nights... Outside of Doncaster. You see, Doncaster doesn't have many nice eateries or decent places to enjoy a nice drink any more. No 7 Rum Rooms however, may have changed that! We have enjoyed drinks in the bar on a few occasions beforehand, however we have always been unlucky in securing a table in the restaurant. On this occasion I booked a good four weeks ahead for a Saturday evening, paying the £20pp deposit in cash. Upon arrival early on Saturday evening we enjoyed a nice drink in the bar, which was nice and quiet (the live act starts later and the bar becomes busy shortly beforehand) before making our way upstairs to the tiny restaurant. We were greeted and seated immediately in the simple, roughly finished dining room with closely packed tables and a partly open kitchen. An open door acts as extraction which also sadly blows cooking smells and cold air through the dining room. This is the only reason I haven't given the restaurant a full 5 stars as it makes for a rather uncomfortable experience when you are cold and overcome with smoky, greasy cooking smells. We started with pigeon breast and mutton curry to start with. Both were lovely although my sweet potato fondant was actually sliced sweet potato. Still very tasty though. For main we chose the spatchcock chicken and the ox cheek. Again, both lovely however I did expect my chicken to be spatchcocked rather than served as two boneless pieces of chicken. Still very tasty and the ox cheek was lovely and tender. For dessert my husband had a small cheeseboard and I chose the crumble which was very sweet and served with a lovely ice cream. The restaurant became very busy at around 9pm after which service slowed down somewhat and we had to ask for dessert menus after being offered them 10 minutes beforehand as the waitress had forgotten. The atmosphere quickly went from intimate to crowded and noisy so we'd certainly consider eating even earlier in future to avoid this. Finally, the restaurant owner came over to us as we asked for the bill to ask how everything was which was a lovely touch. Overall an mainly enjoyable experience of Creole/Caribbean flavours with the added bonus of being in our home town rather than a train ride away. Would we eat here again? Yes of course, but I'll be sure to bring a pashmina for the cold air and we'll choose to eat much earlier next time.

This restaurant was recommended to us by friends so we knew it'd be good, but we were blown away by the quality of the food! I've had the good fortune to have travelled widely and I can honestly say this rates amongst the best food I've ever tasted. The Sea Bass was sublime, every mouthful being a 'wow'. The only downside is actually getting a booking - the phone was unanswered the many times we tried calling, so we eventually visited on spec (mid week) and got a table that way. Well worth the trouble and we'll definitely be returning!

Before setting off for Doncaster I had read up about this restaurant on Tripadvisor and I couldn't wait to get here.A beautiful looking interior with nice furnishings and decorated tastefully throughout with an eye catching rustic serving bar ,it really is one cool place to enjoy quality meals and drinks. We were greeted warmly by a very pleasant member of staff were luckily for us a table was available,we ordered some beers while we checked out the menu and I opted for a steak meal with chip's while my twin brother Stephen opted for a curry meal. After a short wait our meal's arrived and what a wonderful treat awaited us. Our meals were outstanding and in all the years I have been going to Doncaster easily the best meal i have had here. The service here is impeccable with young eager attentive staff in this very busy and popular restaurant. My steak meal was delicious and fell apart on the fork, just so tasty. My brothers curry looked superb and he said it was awesome .We moved on after our delicious meals and had a great time in here. Very easy to locate on Market Road. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday,6pm till 11pm. Friday & Saturday,6pm till 1.30am.Sunday,2pm till 7pm. Although not Doncaster's cheapest restaurant, in my opinion it's certainly the best but I would probably pre book ahead especially near the weekend as this restaurant is popular.

I am appalled! I booked rum rooms tonight for my fiancés birthday. I emailed and paid the what I thought was £10 deposit as the email stated but I have been charged £20. First of all, we arrived to be told our booking was at half past 9 not 8pm even though I had the emails to prove I had been told 8pm. Ever tally we were seated at a table not big enough to fit two plates and next to a radiator when the weather has been 23c+ today!!! We asked to move because of the heat and we were ignored by the arrogant waitresses. We waited a while and still no drinks orders so my fiancé asked if we could love tables to which once again we were ignored. We asked for our deposits back as we wanted to go somewhere else and were told we could not have any money back. We have eaten at rum rooms and drank downstairs quite a few times but this place has become a pretentious disgrace. I have no idea what type of establishment the management of rum rooms are wanting to run but it is certainly one myself, partner, friends and family will not be returning to!!! Diabolical
