Nkono in Bolton

The food from here is amazing. I am currently working in Bolton and was told to try this place. I am glad I did, it’s that good I took my work mates the day after and everyone was made up. Also very friendly service.

I am heartbroken because I don't live in Bolton because I would be eating here all the time. Oxtail stew and jollof rice was bursting with flavour and honestly one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. Taste explosion 😁

I visit regularly for lunch and I am never disappointed! The BBQ is so tender and smokey and the jollof is heavenly. I had mine with gravy and chickpeas which were full of flavour!

Absolutely phenomenal food! The curried goat was to die for, and the sweet bread was second to none. Having our food served by one of the single most charismatic men I've ever met made our experience 100 times over! We were only visiting for the weekend but have now vowed to visit everytime we come

the uncle that serve food here is very kind, he is also very entertaining, he loves to sing music which always lifts everyone's mood up! the food is amazing, i specially love the oxtail that this uncle make! and the chili! absolutely yummmm to me its literally mouth watering thinking about it and i have been here loads of time.

Wow, what a welcome and what great food! I tried to resist but the thought of the curried goat had me struggling to keep walking on by. Also got to try jollof rice and a chickpea dish. Must say the little dumplings were amazing too. My first try of Cameroon cuisine but I will be returning that's for sure!

First time on cameroon food, really tasty and so enjoyable. Plus the ladies were very accomodating to let us try a few things first. VERY good and will be back soon.

Came with a few friends. Heads up to those that think this is a restaurant. This place is a cafe. Service not the greatest. Your basically.on ur own with no help. The food is ok but doesnt make up for the service. Wouldnt reccomend. Many better places around

The food was brilliant! The food is very flavourful and delicious. I honestly love it so much. Other than the food the vibe of the workers made it feel like home. Alan the boss was so welcoming and lively and put a smile on my whole family’s face. I was served by 2 young lovely ladies who were so well mannered and polite and their service was amazing.Overall, the food and service is everything i could have hoped for. I will definitely be coming back!

Really enjoy Alan’s cooking. Different flavours on the chicken are all lovely. I especially enjoy the plantain and dumplings.

I’m a regular at the Bolton Market and I can’t walk past without having lovely food from lovely Alain. It’s fresh, it’s vibrant, it’s generous and full of flavour. Every time both food and service are impeccable, and trust me I’ve been there many times. Try curry goat yourself, plantain to die for, rice fluffy and the chilli sauce for an extra punch. I recommend it to everyone!!!

YEARS have passed since the first time I visited Nkono, Bolton. I was studying in college and finding this incredible market stall was one of the best things that happened to me. I came here most days for lunch in 2018 and in 2021, even though I’m back to living in Manchester, I still bring my family and friends back to this same stall with that same smiling face. Even if my family/friends aren’t free, I go there alone for a friendly catchup and some top quality food. Honestly the food is cooked to perfection with tastes that will send you abroad. I cannot and probably will not ever complain!

Brilliant food, very tasty and great value for money. The owner was amazing, so full of life and joy, would recommend to anyone who's looking to try something new

We try to call about once a month , more if we have time , the food is always sublime , Alain is such an amazing character who clearly loves the food he makes .We had goat curry , chick pea curry , dumplings, plantain and a rib that was extremely rare and so succulent it was amazing. The chilli sauce is to be taken with care , so we get a small pot separately which I would advise if you haven't tried it , as its very cheeky . Give this place a try, the portions are generous and the company is terrific. We will be back again soon!!

This is fantastic, authentic Cameroon takeaway is tucked away in the non-food section of Bolton market and should not be missed. It is a simple place but with fantastic, friendly service and amazing food. This was my first visit but it certainly won’t be my last as the quality was so good.Don’t let the exterior put you off. I couldn’t see a menu board and the food in the glass fronted cabinet wasn’t easy to do identify. The helpful man who is a great character explained what things were and I sampled several of the dishes. The barbecued chicken was so succulent and tasty I’d love to know how they do it. We also had a goat stew which was fantastic, the chicken with lemon amazing and the ox cheek the same. All this served with jalof Rice and dumplings meant it was enough for two meals for two of us!The cost is very reasonable and I cannot wait to revisit. Highly recommended.

Alain is a very friendly chap that is as mad has a box of frogs and very passionate about what he cooks we call in to taste his cooking when we can and enjoy it very much. The singing though Now thats another story lol

Whilst at bolton market, we decided to check out the food at the stall holders, I tried the goat curry which was spicy, but full of flavour. Absolutely delicious, tasted like lamb, cooked tender as the meat fell off the bone.As for the host, Allan, larger than life character, came out front to sing and socialize with customers.Highly recommended.

Another shopping trip to Bolton Market with my friends, and of course we had to have our lunch from the amazing Nkono. The food is absolutely delicious. He scammed my cousin for a big order for his child's first party which left all the guests disappointed and has no meat to eat with their food. I was there to pick up the order earlier than the time he had agreed with my cousin and after waiting close to 3 hrs for him, he gave me raw chicken to take to the party as well as an incomplete order. My cousin paid him for 70 grilled chicken but he gave me 20 including raw chicken. Pls avoid him, he's a crook

Called yesterday after reading reviews on here and got two big portions of the goat curry , with the rice and some beans . Alain also let us try the chicken which was delicious. The curry was fantastic as was all the meal big portions served by a massive personality . All the food looked fab , we will definitely be back .

First time eating African food and also my first visit to Nkono today and definitely will not be the last. Had the curry goat which was amazing. The kind gentleman also let me sample a beef and spinach dish and also some chicken. Both were to die for. Flavourful, juicy and unbelievably tender. The food here is cooked with love and passion and I can say it was one of best food experiences I have had in a very long time. Might even return tomorrow I enjoyed it so much. Do not miss out on a visit to this unique place!

Went to this stall uncertain of what to expect and was blown away by the quality of food and service. There was a diverse range of food and as a first timer they made up a bowl with a bit of everything so I could try them all (tasted soooo good.). Staff were lovely, friendly and took the time to interact with customers, so refreshing to see and really turned our day around for the better. :)Thank you! Keep up the good work!

I visited Nkomo with my 80 year old mum yesterday for lunch. We were given very generous samples of food to try before we ordered. We decided to have the beef and spinach stew, chargrilled chicken, jolof rice, chickpea stew and a sweet dumpling. All delicious, full of flavour, generous portions and great value for money. You sit in the central eating area watching the world go by. We got a coffee from The Coffee Grind, great service from there as well. Alain is very friendly, enthusiastic and entertaining, he came over to check that we were enjoying our food and made Mum’s day by posing for a photo with her. We will definitely return soon.

It was amazing. I have walked passed here for years as I come to Bolton market every week but was hungry today so decided to give it a go! Amazing food. Clean, fresh and unique flavours which were just so complimenting. I had the grilled salmon with seasoned rice, plantain, veg stew and a little touch of chilli and the whole thing was just stunning. I will definitely be back! Thank you guys and keep up the work! They were really friendly and nice too which was just the icing on the cake.

First time in Bolton Market and stumbled across Nkono, fronted by a very friendly man whose name I didn't get. Was pleased that had a vegan option which was a delicious chickpea curry. Generous portion filled me up for £5. The kids want to say thank you for the free donuts! Would definitely recommend

This place is based in Bolton Market. The goat curry is absolutely superb and Alain the chef is a pleasure to listen too. Excellent African cuisine in the centre of Lancashire - and we should know living in Africa 4 months of the year. Visit as soon as possible you will not be disappointed.

We have eaten here a few times, never disappointed (unless we are late and there’s nothing left ), These guys cater for events too. Great guys and very welcoming. Fabulous and tasty food, generous portions and not expensive. Love their Jolof rice. You even get serenaded by the best vocals in Bolton.

Tried Nkono for the first time today and was NOT disappointed, the curried goat was so tender and flavoursome and the chicken was delicious!!. I won’t be going anywhere else for African Cuisine and would highly recommend this as the best I have ever had!! Staff were super friendly and food was reasonably price. Thank you very much!!!

We came to Bolton market with family and wanted to have lunch while we were there. We have eaten here before and the food was amazing. We ordered our food and all four of us were speechless on how good the food was. It was the best food we have had for a long time and would highly reccomend.

I often visit Nkono on a Saturday afternoon whilst shopping in Bolton with my family. The food is always delicious and varied - there is often something new to try and each dish is full of flavour. Very often, I'll partner up my food with a pint from the pub in the food court and I can honestly say I always enjoy the experience. My favourite dish is the one that allows you to try a bit of everything that's on offer that day. The portions are always generous and each dish is packed with flavour. Visiting Nkono has quickly become one of my favourite things to do on weekend and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

I live in London and my dads been banging on about this place for about a year. Today we decided to get the famous goat curry and some chicken and jollof rice. We asked for extra chilli.

Love this place. The goat curry is to die for and the chilli sauce will knock your socks off. Definitely worth a try. Alain is a true gent and entertainer. Have been back 3 times and will go again and again.

As a regular visitor to the Bolton Market we always try to make sure we have enough room to fit in food from Alain and the guys at Nkono. Ridiculously friendly staff who go out of their way to accomodate you, coupled with excellent food at decent prices makes it a go too place. Every dish we have is rich in flavour, meats are tender and fall apart in the mouth (though beware! You will have to battle the bones in most dishes), and the Jolof rice is something we could eat mountains of. They are so good we may just have them cater for our wedding in the future!

Simply put, the best meal I’ve ever had in Bolton. This wonderful food is packed full of incredible flavour. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. My wife made the mistake of getting food from one of the other market stalls and looked on jealousy as I ate with a huge smile on my face. Will definitely be back!

Went to Bolton market today with friends. Had another amazing meal from nkono. Curried goat. Rice. Chickpea & veg.sweet dumpling. Their food is so delicious and tasty. Good sized portions at a very reasonable price. The staff are so friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend nkono. You won’t be disappointed

I am no sure what I have just had was called but it was amazing. The staff were brilliant because I couldn't decide what I wanted he let me have a taste of everything. I got mine as a takeaway and I have to say for £5 there was a lot of food very worth the money I will be come back here.

So I’ve been popping along for years to this amazing man for goat curry for the last few years. It’s fair to say that this is the only thing I can think of eating because it is superb!! I’ve tried the rest of the sumptuous food on offer but hell! The curried goat I would run a marathon for!!! Keep up the good work you beautiful man

This is by far the essence of a home cooked delicious meal. The owner is a charismatic gentlemen with a big heart and kind soul who dishes out the laughs and plentiful bowls of piping hot top quality food. Good, honest food cooked with love, passion and a whole lot of soul. No where else in the markets will you find such a charismatic man dishing out smiles and laughter as a side to his delicious and plentiful bowls of food. Mad owner, mad food, I love going to this food outlet. Street food just does not do this justice! Nkomo serve up completely authentic West African dishes and Alain Job the owner makes every visit a pleasure! You simply got to go!

The title of this review is Alain Job's own claim to his cooking - and he's not wrong. A delicious meal - as always - this time it was goat curry with jollof rice and chilli sauce. I've been working my way through his menu over time and it's all superb, and extremely good value. Merci Alain for bringing something new, exotic and tasty to Bolton..... it is very welcome !

One of the best places in town to grab a quick lunch. Allan is so welcoming and always happy to talk you through the dishes and offers a small taster if he has something on you've not tried before to make sure you like it before ordering.

We discovered this little gem on Bolton Market yesterday and absolutely fell in love with the food. The bbq'd meat and fish reminded me of the South African Braai's and they had some great little vetkoeke (fried bread balls) to go with the meal. The guys working there are super proud of the food they present and rightly so, because it is simply delicious and great value for money. Good news is they also do events! Going forward, they will be seeing a lot more of us. :-)

Just had lunch here and it was just perfect. I had beef and hubby had chicken. It’s served with a chickpea stew, rice and quite honestly the lightest dumpling I’ve ever tasted. And mega hot sauce!!! But...it’s served with fun, pride and love, and it makes a big difference to any normal food place. You’ll recognise this place with the queue outside which is always a good sign. Give it a try, it’s good, honest tasty food.

We enjoyed the food so much we drove 40 miles this week for more! The home made chilli sauce is the best I’ve ever tasted.

I have visited the market many times for a beer, however on Sat 8th Dec, I had the pleasure to try a chicken dish from Nkono and my tastebuds were pleasantly surprised, lovely Camaroon food , great food , pleasant staff , a real treat, well worth a visit

Visited the stall with my wife yesterday and ate the food fresh at the market dining area. Had the salmon meal and the chicken meal with dumplings, it was so nice we returned after shopping to get a take away for our two lads at home. They said that it was delicious too. Will definitely be going again next time we are in Bolton.

What can I say this place is more like cafe, rather then restaurant. Located in market. The food is on menu more of streets food. I had spinach dish with chickpeas which was not tasty at all. Sorry to say not coming back again.

In Bolton Market's food hall, Nkono is a stall providing authentic African food. There is a choice of five or six dishes, and the ones I have tried have been really tasty, wholesome, healthy and filling. Anyone who likes tasty, spicy food should give Nkono a try. Its also good value at £5 or £6.

Really good authentic food with a nice chap at the helm to boot. Tasty, cheap and cheerful. Find a spot on a table and enjoy

If you're ever in Bolton's market listen out for this guy, sings all day long as well as serving some of the best Carribean dishes. My favourite is the Beef and Spinach jerk served with chickpeas and savoury rice. It is medium hot but he will always spice it up even more with chilli sauce. A few pieces of Plantains or sweet dumplings also added which makes this a real authentic experience to remember.

I come here whenever I'm off to Bolton market. The food is so so good, and so tasty. The guys that run it make you smile and are always happy to chat. Make sure you visit next time your in the market. You won't be disappointed.

My son works for MSF in Africa, so he is used to African food. He introduced me to Nkono soon after it opened and I go as often as I can. We humans all started off in Africa but most of us have forgotten our roots. Reclaim your African origins by eating African food from Nkono.

Second week back it’s so good. Goat curry, plantain and chickpeas. Soooo tasty and nippy. Large portion for the price charged. Worth a visit.

I’ve been eating at Nkono every time I shop on the market. The food is AMAZING,freshly cooked not for customers but for friends, cooked with love, passion, attention and heart. Some of the best food you can get in the North West. Only a small menu available on any one day, but that may be why the food is so good. We had salmon in jerk seasoning - to die for, and the rice and vegetables were unbelievably good. Expect this to be the main meal of the day, because helpings are very generous. Be cautious about the chilli sauce! The food hall is a very pleasant place to eat and there is always room to sit. It is self-service, which is why I haven't given it a top rating for service.

Fantastic food, went today with my Mum and persuaded her to try to Curried Steak. I had the Curried Goat. Plenty of food which taken fantastic. Owner was very friendly and charming and my mum loved it, will definitely be going again.

This place is fantastic! I had no idea it was hiding there in the market! I was out with a friend and we literally stumbled across it. The food was amazing, I had a little bit of everything that was on offer that day and it was all good. Plus the guy who runs the place is great, really welcoming and really funny...... I can’t wait to have another excuse to go back to be honest
