Worst fish and chips ever, need to change the oil Saturday 3rd Feb 2024

Nothing like biting into your second to last scampi to see green seafood and an uncleaned poop tract. I didn't think to look at the ones I'd eaten before that. The last scampi was also unclean. A shame, as the chips are great and my dad enjoyed his fish.

the worst fish I have ever eaten, thick coating dripping with oil, no spices, fries ok, I do not recommend, money wasted, just like this fish was thrown into the trash

My son bought takeaway cod & chips and 1 portion of Rock for me. It looked good in the batter but when I cut into, it the usual cartilage bone was almost non existent and it had a strong taint of ammonia which left a bad taste. I've eaten Rock for years, but sadly this experience has put me off for life!

Wife ordered chicken and chips I ordered chicken and mushroom pie..both dishes were hot and tasty..good service nice friendly staff definitely recommend

Ordered sausage and chips, staff were friendly and I got my food after a short wait. The only downside was it was cash only. Food was hot and tasty. Would recommend .

It's a chip shop and a bloody good one. Selsey is spoilt for choice for fish and chip shops with a grand total of four, but this is the one we use most. Great food.

We have been buying our Fish and Chips for 15 years from this establishment (ownership has changed) Always get a fresh tasting fish from here. The past few years the price has rocketed but it’s the best in Selsey

As expected. Portions are really big. Fish well cooked. Nice thing is you can order and go in the park nearby to eat. I put 3 for ambiance because it is a takaway (so this rating means nothing) store so I can't really rate. Point of improvment : maybe fry the chips a little bit more.

Fish looked like it had been fried twice and was very oily. Chips were rubbish. Went to early evening so probably got lunchtime leftovers. Back to Dens queue.

Someone else wrote "traditional fish and chips if that's what you're after" and gave a score of 3/5. I'd agree with the description but give 'em 5/5! A chippie with a queue is a good thing because locals know where to go. You have to wait here for a little while but it's not unreasonable. When your food arrives it's as fresh as you could wish for and you've just watched it being cooked. They take the skin off the fish! That makes a big difference to some of us. Carefully prepared. Crispy. Good portions, Fair prices. Fresh. Hot. Yummy. Job done. Atmosphere? In a chippie?? Takeaway?? Staff are polite and civil and take your order and move on to the next customer. While you wait you have a little banter with other punters and it's all friendly. You don't have to wait too long. Traditional fish and chips, if that's what you're after and done very well.

Went for a little drive and stumbled on this. Nice Plaice is an appropriate name! The guys were really polite and friendly. Best fish n chips we’ve had in a long time! Will def get back there sometime soon :)

Best chip shop in Selsey hands down. The large chips portion are massive so be aware you can easily share them as a family. The fish portions are massive too and they hang over my dinner plates at home

Lovely fish and chips, crisp batter all perfectly cooked and very reasonable price, £39 for 4 standard cod and chips and small chips and fishcake. Portion sizes were really good!

I move to Chichester last year and haven’t been able to find a good fish and chip shop, I come back for a few days and ordered from here again and it was just as good as I remembered!!

Fresh, good quality fish and chips at reasonable prices

After reading good reviews for this place, I thought it would be nice to have some decent fish and chips not far from the sea side.. however.. the cod was overcooked and a bit tooooo oily.. the chips were overcooked to the point they were hard and not nice.. the only thing I enjoyed was the chicken and mushroom pie and the buttered rolls.. I'd recommend these guys taste chips before giving them out.. sorry but your prices are high and did not reflect on the quality of the food.. i wish I went to mcdonalds instead

Just had a takeout from Here and it was fantastic, from the reply to the phone call to check they were open to the time I exited the door not to mention the food , brilliant. Order taken correctly, order confirmation correct order itemised before putting in the bag and wrapped with care so not to damage it all. I really can’t recommend this place enough it’s fantastic. Best Plaice in Hampshire and I had pie !!

Had a decent size haddock, chips, mushy peas and scraps from here. Possibly the best I’ve had in that area for a couple of years. Would happily recommend this shop and the bakery next door for excellent bread rolls for a chip butty. (Search The Tearaway Podcast to get my latest episode.)

When I've visited selsey there is always a queue for this shop so thought I'd try it for myself and wasn't disappointed. Well cooked and very nice. Will be visiting again next time I'm down.

Do not understand the hype found it expensive and the food was small portions the fish was pretty pants aswell

I used to get the OAP Special for my parents but now it's just Dad he has Rock & Small Chips usually on a Thursday. We have been coming here for well on two years now. Everything is cooked fresh & it's beautiful. Best Fish & Chips in Selsey by far! Also has other items on their menu all at reasonable prices too. Service is friendly & Efficient. Food is lovely & Value for money I can't fault it. Would Highly Recommend!

Always get our fish and chips here when I visit my mother, last night I was shocked to see how they have increased their prices and their portions have been cut by half. Went at 6pm on a Thursday evening and only three people waiting outside for their orders. Thought that something was up. Such a shame as this was the best for miles around. Now will go to the village in future. Guess everyone else has already had the same thought

Nice fish, and good portions. I would give 5 stars if they would let the oil drain a bit more before putting the food in the bags... as it gets a bit soggy and too oily.

Excellent fish & chips - cannot be bettered!

Lovely food when you actually get what you've ordered. Again upon returning home wrong order, this is the second time this has happened recently. Items missing small chips instead of large and none of the sausages battered as ordered, soggy onion rings. I had guests waiting at home for dinner so returning again was not an option as I'd been out long enough in the queue waiting for food. Be sure to check your order before you leave.

This used to be the best fish and chip shop in selsey. No more. Just had chickenchips, chicken so overcooked it was inedible and chips not cooked enough.

Always nice fish and chips with most of the food cooked to order so you know its fresh. The downside is quite often a lengthy wait, but it is worth it for decent fresh fish!

Delicious and fresh fish. Real chunky potato chips perfectly done. Children enjoyed battered chicken nuggets with real meat inside not some mince 🙃

Found this place by chance, its behind the car park and boating lake. Everything freshly cooked to order, very covid secure. Lots of locals also buy their fish and chips here. You usually have to wait but it's worth it. Once you have bough your fish and chips walk across local road to small local pond / wooded area where you can sit and watch the ducks (but Don't feed them please), we had a lovely time every visit. Please collect up your rubbish and leave it in refuse bins between park and car park

This is by far the best fish and chips myself and my house guests have ever had. The fish is battered without the skin on, something that has gone down very well! Good size portions and service is excellent.

Whenever we visit Selsey we get chips here before heading to the beach. Even if the weather is bad the food is good and the curry sauce is lovely too!

Usually a 30+ queue is a good sign, but standing out in the cold for 25 minutes for a shop bought Pukka Pie and Chips waiting for my number to be literally screamed in true banshee fashion doesn't really make me want to return. I avoided this place for years due to them not taking card payments (I don't carry cash) it took a pandemic for the owners to realise that its 2021 and not the 90s. Unfortunately not good enough for me to return unless I'm desperate for chippy chip's.

As new residents in Selsey we are still exploring the facilities. Nice Plaice was recommended by our new neighbours and this was our first chance to try it out. A small queue outside which is a good sign. Friendly staff took order and it was ready in 10 minutes and haddock was cooked to order. At home sat down to eat and was very pleased. Standard chips was huge, standard cod reasonable size. All still hot and best of all crisp batter not greasy. A definite hit. We've tried elsewhere in Selsey but will be coming back to Nice Plaice. Good Job!

We ate here as a family of 5. Kids had burgers and another had sausage and chips. We had cod and chips. Really great food. The kids said they were the best burgers they have ever had.

Good food, good service, good value

I have have used twice. My family is new to the area. Our first visit the order was incorrect which was disappointing. The second time the order was 100% accurate. I really liked the chips on both occasions good combination of crispy bits soggy bits and fluffy bits. Both times I have had battered sausage and they were nice. I had battered cod the second time it was OK the fish was soft and cooked well but the batter wasn't crispy enough too much oil. The portion size was spot on and I like the look of some of the menu choices next time I will try the spam fritter.

Having phoned my order through and given it precisely. It was repeated to me which was hard to understand. I arrived to collect had the order repeated and correct. It was then packed and taken away £15.10 thank you! Chips - reg = sparrow portion but were not soggy ! Peas and curry sauce - half size poly cups Haddock - half done nicely and other end overcooked Savaloy- wasn't even in the bag! Pea fritter - Well it was warm! Standard frozen and tasteless . Not the best for a seaside A void Won't be back

Very covid safe one in tto order food then wait outside until order is ready. Freshly cooked after order taken. Staff friendly. We had delicious hot fish & chips to eat in the car overlooking the sea at the end of the high street.

Battered sausage was very nice ,, large portion of chips was plenty for 2 people.

Used this place twice when on holiday here. Reasonable price and foods ok....but they got my 2nd order wrong, on returning to sort the items out they went and gave me the food they had left out which was now cold and lied saying it was all fresh cooked. Bad customer service and the poor lad on the counter basically said they told me to lie, he wasn’t happy for my issues but bosses pushed him
