Newbold Fish Bar in Chesterfield

Went here again for the first time in a while... Was busy, as we waited for stuff to be cooked... Seems the locals get served first, even if they come in last... Stood and waited, with other people, for what seemed to be 10 - 15 minutes. In the time it took to order a large Cod n chips and a small Fish n chips, several people who's names they knew, came in, ordered, then got their food before us, even though they hadn't pre-ordered, with the same dishes we had ordered, which meant we were waiting for chips to be cooked again... Busy staff and 'Just Eat' drivers coming in, means this place gets busy... Nice food, just a shame about the long wait...

A friend of my wife raves about this place so we had to try it. Our first serving was kebab late at night on a weekday when, who I can only assume is the owner, wasn’t there. The food didn’t blow my head off but it was nice and everything you’d expect from a chippy. Around a month down the line it’s takeaway night in the household and we haven’t stopped thinking about that juicy lamb doner and succulent chicken. I spoke on the phone with the owner and when I hung up I turned to my wife and said ‘what a nice man, I liked him’. Suddenly 15 minutes had passed and a dark cloud hung over my transit courier as I pulled into Littlemoor shops. None the wiser I payed for my food, smiled and raced home exited like Charlie when he found the golden ticket. I walk in, give my wife the wink because in food terms, it was about to go down. We had a double date planned with a kebab and nothing was going to get in the way of tonight. I unwrapped and opened it and little to both of our disappointments we was knocked back with what we saw. On the right there was some golden chunky chips fluffy and all. On the left there was a mixture of Donner meat all mixed up as one would only expect. On top however, it took a turn. There was an excuse of a salad that can only be described as a vegatarian-reverser. There was cabbage (which was gave to me as lettuce) was like chewing on a box of match’s, the cucumber still had last nights seman on and the onion was wearing Harry’s cloke of invisibility. Thats not even the worse part. All of that might still have been edible if the sauce I asked for wasn’t the same size as a very small birds facies We dug and dug into the food to see if it was hidden but we couldn’t find any anywhere. The portion size was literally the size of a fingernail and it completely ruined out food. I thought about using some mayonnaise out of the fridge but that’s not the same, I even thought about driving to the other mockery of a chippy up here but that went out the window too. I’m sad, mad and worst of all still hungry because I couldn’t it. So between the salad and and sauce (the items that come complementary with the meal) they’ve ruined my night, life and probably marriage. Thankyou. Great staff Good prices Easy commute

Becoming very popular in the village again as it was years ago. Nice food but very busy at times, and service can be slow when busy.

I had a kebab special from here the other day ,well the meat was dry and the salad was a shocker they should of been ashamed to put on scrapings of cabbage half tomatoe n can I say they just opened so the salad was yesterday's and was not busy so there was no excuse biggest waste of money ..I say all this so they can reflect and make it right for other customers and also they share the same pick as loundsley green chippie ,it surely can't be the same as there food if lovely

AVOID AVOID AVOID! Staff are far too busy arguing amongst themselves about taking deliveroo orders and if people will actually come and get them before they close to actually serve the people stood in the shop. Myself and another person stood in the shop for over five minutes before even being acknowledged and then I had to wait while they completed numerous deliveroo orders before I got my simple chips and curry sauce. The other person I would guess will still be there until they close waiting on their order….. PRIORITIES ALL WRONG - SERVE THE PEOPLE IN THE SHOP! I WILL NEVER USE THIS CHIP SHOP AGAIN.

Just a decent fish bar. Fish & Chips used to be cheap food, but after the breakit not anymore. However, the portion is large and tasty. I recommend.

Never been disappointed with the food.The staff are always friendly, even when they are ŕun of their feet they find time to be polite. Not our local but we are prepared to travel for the quality of food and service. My Dad will be 95 on 18/05/23, he's very fussy about his Friday teatime treat of fish cake and chips but as never complained when purchased from here.

Best chip shop in Chesterfield, friendly and professional. They can accommodate every customer's needs regardless of the customer's circumstances. The shop is extremely clean and the sales assistance uniforms is always clean and smart. The quality of the products is excellent. You will not be disappointed. I live 12 miles away from Chesterfield and once a month when visiting my auntie we make it our duty to visit the chip shop. All I have to say is quality, quality, and quality you will never be disappointed.

Garbage...Tried here as Chesters was shut and won't be returning. Asked for 3 large fish and chips all without skin and recieved 3 scabby fish with skin on. These were wasted...£30+ meal for 3 wasted. Chips were OK but too greasy., best plus I can give them. Don't waste your money...

Service a little slow and when served in these boxes chips stick so fall apart when trying to eat them. All round not a bad chippy at all.

I was on my way home from work and fancied a takeaway tea,so saw this place,rang my wife to see what rest of family wanted. Called in placed order and didn't have to wait too long before it was ready. Staff very helpful, more importantly the food was delicious. Would highly recommend this place.

I like that everything is cooked fresh however when they mess up and you end up having to wait for one of your order after they’ve wrapped everything up. And then place your order on the side to go cold. At least fish cakes were hot.

Amazing. Great value and good quality made a big order over £50 worth got more than enough big props to all workers as it was a million degrees in the shop. I will be back personally to eat again

What a rip off ,I was charged £7.10p for a so called large cod ,which was no larger tha the mini fish which was also purchased, I took it back and was told it's a bit more chunky than the mini fish. What rubbish . I definitely wont ever be going back there .

Spot on chippy!!!! Fast service with friendly staff. A large menu and selection of choice. If using a card to pay there is a £5 minimum spend limit. Food was delicious and they gave generous portions too. I will definitely return here and am happy to recommend to everyone - thank you Newbold Fish Bar!

Good fish shop with lots of choices for other foods other than fish and chips. I had to wait a bit for my fish but that was good as it was being cooked fresh whike I waited. Hot and tasty. The shop also sell lamb and chicken kebabs.

Lovely fish and chips me and the Mrs have been ordering from here every sat for a month and what can I say cod huge and batter cooked lovely chips soft and golden and the curry sauce and mushy peas are fantastic this is one the best chippys I've been to now in a long time well worth a visit 😋

Chips r awful ginormous chunks of dry potato prob from yday as I ordered for delivery at dinnertime. Donner meat tasteless usually can't get bad bad meat. Yorkshire fishcake amazing. Think I'll drive to rejjies again next time, doesn't deliver but all items r always exceptional. U will have to que tho but for that reason.

Revisited this nice chippy and staff did say hello, however bought a small chips, large fish and curry sauce at nearly £9! in order to share with my better half and was very disappointed with the portion size, not enough chips to share and I would expect enough to share at £9 so had to go back and order more chips making my total spend £11!!!!!!!!!!, they have a tendency to put fish in a box which is very portion controlled for chips..... Previous review:- Great food but always waiting on chips for what they say is a few minutes but never is. Been there 4 times today but guess what no chips each time unless I wait, which I did eventually as I was on a 30min lunch break and had run out of time by this point, then they served a new customer before me, total wait time over 30mins, they dont even say hello when you walk in either, what is wrong with takeaways in the current crisis when they can not be arsed to say hello.. They should be rolling out the red carpet for customers at the moment.. I have revisited this take away a few times since my top review and I do get a great welcome now

Great value and superb food, coupled with cheerful, friendly and helpful staff. We go every week for fish, kebabs, wraps and chips. Fantastic to see the great service continuing in these covid times. As long as it stays open we'll keep coming.

This is my local chip shop. I can't complain, they are really good! Portions are BIG, prices are small, so good value for money. Their menu is forever expanding as well, especially with deep fried halloumi, them things are delicious! 10/10 would recommend

First of all I’m completely honest with every review. I visited this chip shop last week, I requested mini cod ( prefer cod as no skin unlike haddock ) and chips with beans. The owner had no small cod left however, he kindly cut a large piece of cod down for me and cooked the fish fresh to order. Fish was very nice, the batter was nice and crispy not at all soggy. Good portion sizes and reasonable price. Chips wasn’t at all greasy. Highly recommend.

Usually go for cod and chips but pies are good as well. Friendly, helpful staff. It’s a bit odd at the moment with Covid but you get used to it. Bizarre but the fish is much better than what we used to get at the seaside! Mini cod is good value or you can have a tasty bigger fish.

Brilliant fish and chips here kebab is not too bad. They are currently doing a phone up and collect service which I found to be handy.

I’d been craving fresh fish and chips for ages and we really enjoy food from Newbold Fish Bar - fish and chips for us and the kids having kebabs and chicken nuggets. Ringing our order ahead we were able to collect at the agreed time with minimal contact.The fish were really big with crispy batter and the chips were great. Everyone polished off their meals and sat back content afterwards.We’ll definitely be doing this again ...

Fish and chips for two today. Normally very good but tasted like chips cooked in old fat or warmed up. Quality here does not seem consistent. The dogs enjoyed the chips if we didnt

The old woman that often is on shift here with short dark hair always has a attitude and always gives dirty looks,always looks down at you,she needs to remember she only works in a chippy..not exactly hard work.
