Any time that I'm in Cardiff I will order food from here which is amazing frickles are my new obsession 😋

The deli boys are amazing! Excellent food, big and fills you up! Lots of choices! Has a bathroom 👍🏻 Friendly service! Amazing overall, definitely recommend, for everyone ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We were told to look at the menus and have someone come to the table so we did. After spending five minutes doing our best to look bored, we finally asked when she would come to help us and were told that we were supposed to come to the counter and that they had just run out of rolls (so no more hoagies, no hotdogs). That is when we left.

Maybe our expectations were too high but for the money paid we were quite disappointed with our lunch on Saturday. The flavours were good but we felt the execution was a bit lazy. The 'hogies' are just cheap white rolls so paying £6 each for one with a few slices of cheese/ham for the kids felt a bit insulting. The steak in the Philly Cheese was tough and overpowered by all of the onions. They asked if we wanted butter but what we received was cheap margarine. Service was quick but maybe that explains the lack of attention to detail. We wanted to love it but left wishing we'd tried somewhere else for £40.

Agree with previous reviews. Far too much salt. Hashbrowns were so salty, to the point you couldn't enjoy the food.

This place rocks! Delicious and authentic food, huge portions at good prices. Amazing options for veggie/vegan.

I genuinely thought this place had shut down after walking past your old premises. The power of the internet told me otherwise. Lovely and pleasant staff as always, disappointed that the tuna Hoagie was removed off the menu, but was highly recommended the salmon bagel which did not disappoint. So glad you are still open and better than all these chains.

Been meaning to return due to good memories of food from here many years ago but wish I hadn't bothered...over priced, over salted cheap tasting food...very disappointed😞

Tried a Vegan Bagel last week and it was so good I went in for a Hoagie today. Despite my banter with the nice bloke serving me, I bit off more than I could chew, but was happily provided with a “take-away kit” so I could finish it later. I’ll definitely go back again. The food was lovely, the staff friendly and welcoming, and the place is obviously popular. One downside, you can only tip with cash not card, and I didn’t have a bean on me. I will bear that in mind next time.

brilliant. Was amazed at how well balanced in terms of seasoning and flavour the cheeseburger bagel was! Our last meal of our trip to Cardiff and we loved it, also loved the feel of the place, had some locals come in who staff recognised and that was lovely.

Amazing sandwiches! If you haven't tried here yet, do so, quickly! The only place I've ever ordered from where what I got was exactly like the picture. Sandwiches had plenty of filling, lots of meat, cheese and veggies.

Food was ok. A bit too much sea salt. Staff a bit rude and miserable. Won't go back. Don't know if it's new owners or what but the sandwiches used to be much bigger.

Philly cheese steak was out of this world good. In my hubbies words, "glorious hoagies for everyone, outstanding grubbing."

The worst sandwich I’ve had, the meat tasted so processed and too salty. The cheese tasted like plastic, no flavour and so dry. Only thing that made it nice was the coleslaw. I don’t get the good reviews.

Everything tasted great except the egg mayonnaise was off and gave me diarrhoea. I sent a complaint to their website, however they never replied. Also... not strictly their fault... but there is very little oxygen in that arcade so please be weary if this is something that may affect you.

Fantastic little family run restaurant. It was busy but still managed to find a place to sit and got served pretty quickly. Meatball grinder and pastrami hoagie were delicious and very filling as were the chips. If I am ever on the area again I will definitely return.

Really REALLY generous portions. Went there to get my work lunch and was still eating hoagie for tea. Super fresh ingredients, the coleslaw, pickles and other veg is always crunchy and tasty. I'd recommend coming here, even if you're not that hungry. Incredible value. See you all soon! <3

I used to be a regular here between 1990 and 1996. Amazing Hoagies. Loved the Philadelphia as its big enough for both lunch and tea. Stoked that they are still going strong.

We have been to New York Deli many times over the years for their vegan range and have never been disappointed. Everything is very decently priced, huge sandwiches filled to the brim with delicious, fresh ingredients. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back :)

The first time I went here I ordered the new yorker, and I liked it. I came back today to get the Rueben and said the word 'Rueben' about ten times of the course of ordering, then got 2 new yorkers. Whenever I order from anywhere else I check the order and get a paper receipt, but I thought 'hey, they only sell like 5 things and most of those are vegetarian variations on the same three sandwiches, surely there's no need'. Now I have a sandwich that I don't know the pork content of for a Muslim man who hasn't eaten in 7 hours. I just wanted to do something nice for him and now it's ruined.

Of all the eateries I've been to in all the world from mud huts in Afghanistan to Fine dining bistros in France this is the one I come to first time, every time. It's a charming little deli that cures and smokes their own meats, hand produces their own vegan alternatives and takes a great amount of care in preparing what might be the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Always a smile behind the counter and generous servings. If I could award 6 stars I'd want to give them 7.

Probably the best place to have lunch in Cardiff, especially if you have a big appetite. Meaty, veggie and vegan options available, all delicious.

Look no further than this place if you are after a filling tasty lunch. Great selection of vegan and vegetarian options available. The staff are lovely and friendly and the eating space is very relaxing. We had the philli cheese steak and veggie Reuben hogie. Both were delicious!

It's a bit pricey, but if you want a great American new York hoagie there is literally NO WHERE ELSE IN THE UK TO GO. In all seriousness if I'm in Cardiff and I want lunch, this is where I go . No question.

Epic Hoagies! Go hungry as the portions are very generous. Everything on the menu (bagels, hoagies, sandwiches, hot stuff) sounded great. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

when me and a female friend visited i had the new york steak and cheese and my female friend had a America’s blt it was so delicious and amazing and the taste was so amazing and it was like being in American i highly recommended this olace

SUPERB!!! Delightful hoagies. Full of flavour and they're HUGE (skip breakfast if you're coming here for lunch!). Staff are friendly and prices are reasonable considering the portion sizes. 10/10 recommend.

Town was chaos for the WWE clash at the castle and we by chance found this down a quiet arcade. It was great to properly relax during lunch rather than grab and go. We ordered the bacon cheese burger which comes on a bagel, the quality of ingredients were very impressive... I'd share a picture but I only left a slice of tomato! Loved every bite!

Omg this place is insane! I was a bit apprehensive when we ended up here on a work trip in Cardiff, but wow! The sandwich was probably the best sandwich I've ever had from any shop... ever! It was fully loaded, triple decker, the flavour and sauce was just perfect, and it was how a sandwich should be, big - and I mean literally bigger than your hand big, fully loaded, and delicious in every bite. I feel like driving down to Cardiff just to get it once again, can't recommend enough!

Quick and friendly service, great quality food, and loads of choice. You can always trust an American style food vendor who has frequent American customers!! Portions are huge, and well seasoned. Some are cooked to order but definitely worth the wait.

Me and my partner visited The New York Deli a few days ago and it didn't disappoint even one bit. Hidden in one of Cardiff's famous arcades, the establishment offers both indoor and outdoor seating whilst providing a combination of American classics (with some local twists). A true gem in Cardiff City Centre that will definitely be visited again!

First visit in a good few years, and since they moved. Location may be different, food is - as always - up to it's incredible standards! We got there at half 2, and there weren't many sandwiches left, but OH had a Vegan option (lactose intolerant) and I had a Philadelphia. Both were amazing. And we were really pleased to see the Deli Bench still outside ☺️

Amazing little place in Cardiff! The Ruebens (both NYD and Real) are amazing! Definitely go for a great, well-priced lunch. If you are from the states, make sure you mark where you come from on his map in the back!!

Popped in today for lunch and we were welcomed by the team, very friendly, chatty and knowledgeable. Ordered two of the best sandwiches ever eaten, the food was so fresh and tasty, both the meatball which was the hot option and the deli sandwich which was the cold, plenty filling, generous and can not rate enough.

Veggie Rueben. What a treat to have a veggie deli sandwich. The portions are large and delicious, I recommend sharing with a friend, and leave room for their equally yummy desserts. 😋. The only thing that would take it over the top would be to have it toasted.

Amazing! So tasty and convenient

Food is good but they suddenly closed the kitchen at 1.30pm, in the middle of lunchtime while we were queuing with no warning. It meant our 2 friends could order hot food in front of us, but we couldn’t. There wasn’t even a long queue so it wouldn’t have been hard to just serve us. Very disappointed and just generally found it quite strange.

Always the best sandwiches and bagels here. Can get very busy at lunchtimes but we have been lucky of late. Love the grab and go options too. Looking forward to my next lunch break here already.

NYD delivers again. 3 different meals delivered to my office for staff & all had quality contents, huge portions. Money well spent on exceptional food & will enjoy again in the near future.

Lunch at New York Deli 🙌 Found inside High street arcade in town, this is the Reuben: Brisket salt beef, swiss cheese, coleslaw, crunchy gherkins and creamy thousand island dressing ❤ Now I'm not usually overly bothered with a sandwich for lunch, but these sandwiches are in their own league! 😯 I mean, have you ever had such a big sandwich you have to eat some of the filling first just do you can fit it round your gob!? 😂 Looks a beautiful sandwich Tastes a beautiful sandwich There are so many good options to choose from, or you can switch up some fillings, orrr just make your own creation, nothing seems to be off limits here 🙌

The subs here are HUGE. They are also delicious, but you need to be hungry to finish one. very friendly and helpful staff.

Been going to New York Deli since it open 30 years ago. The bagels are gorgeous! The new venue in Duke St arcade is not quite finished yet but hopefully will as good as ever. A little bit pricey. Coffees are much improved!

This was a great find while attending a training course nearby. Really wide choice of hot and cold deli style sandwiches , subs, bagels etc. Really impressive range of vegan and vegetarian options. Fresh ingredients, freshly made and friendly staff.

I've been coming here since 1992, through several moves and different management and it's always been a brilliant place for huge delicious sandwiches. Really good value, fresh ingredients, sandwiches made how you like them by friendly staff.

-Good service -Delicious rolls, I had the Vegan option of "The New York" and it was wonderful -Nice crockery -I enjoyed a nice pot of tea with oat drink -Booth seating -Funky quirky and very clean toilet

Finally caught them open and as usual never disappoints. Both went for "The Cardiff", one in a bagel andone sandwich. Loads of filings and really fresh. The guys in there are always nice and it's definitely our favourite place in the city

Read so many good reviews about this and I am a huge food lover. I had the Pastrami Hoagie with coleslaw and cheese doubled up. Could tell straight away on the weight of the bag how heavy it was gonna be. I had the meal deal for £12.50 , I managed to unwrap it but first thing I noticed It was a lot of coleslaw just slapped on top which if your sat down on a bench on a sunny day in Cardiff isn't a good look if your trying to tuck into it. The portion was gigantic which ofcourse is good. Had proper trouble getting my mouth into it . I had pastrami, turkey and cheese underneath , there wasn't much tickling the taste buds in truth. So overall quite disappointed maybe I chose the wrong choice to have but did expect something more tasty with the quality of meats there. Pros .. portions are huge for the price Cons .. pastrami , turkey and cheese very bland

Oh my goodness! Sandwiches and bagels packed inches thick with deliciousness! Only go of you're good and hungry. Food is absolutely excellent, service fast for freshly made and very friendly. Currently take out from the doorway so excellent for social distancing. This year's Christmas sandwich is an event :)

I wanted a hunk of a slice of cake for a sweet craving, and you only get slithers in coffee shops, but I'd passed the NY Deli the previous week and stopped at their window because of the lovely looking cakes so I knew this was the place to go! I ordered ahead online for click and collect as I didn't have time to really stop. Online ordering was easy and they offer 10% off for pickup which is great. You can collect from about 25 minutes after ordering. I had no idea the prices were so low for their desserts, I was really surprised. For the size you get, it's fab value. I hoofed it to town to pickup my order, which was ready. One of the guys there told me that he'd put a fork in the bag for me in case I wanted to dig in straight away, which was nice of him. As I was walking away I got distracted by the menu in the window, so I went to take a picture of it for later, seeing me doing this, another guy inside waved a paper menu at me from behind the window, so I went to get that from him from the counter. It was easier and made more sense than having a photo on my phone. So two lovely guys serving and just went that little bit extra to make my experience better. I bought the vegan chocolate cake slice. I'm not vegan, but it just looked sooo good and moist so I thought I'd take my first venture into vegan baking and boy was I was no disappointed. You'd never know it was vegan. It was moist and sweet and rich and chocolatey, exactly what I needed and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. Really good cake, I'll be back for sure. Maybe on my next visit I'll have time to try their famous sandwiches and hogies! Update - October 2020 Was planning on visiting the NY Deli anyway, when they posted on Instagram that they actually had an agreement with the local bar, Bubs to order Deli food to there so that you could actually sit and eat in comfort and get a drink from them. This was absolutely perfect given a lack of seating now in town due to covid restrictions and some bad weather! Made my way to Bubs on a Tuesday afternoon, perfectly tucked away in Church Street and feels good to support a local too, ignoring the chains next to it. Covid restrictions in place, sanitiser available at the door and you're informed with a sign to wait to be seated. Was greeted by a lovely lady from the bar and I asked for a nice warm seat as it quite nippy and she showed me to a table towards the back of the bar. She asked if I was eating and I said I'd like to order from the Deli. This was fine and they had deli menus on all their tables ready. She explained what I needed to do, to order online and gave me the address to order too with the table number, then explained that to order Bubs drinks that there was a QR code on the table to scan and order table service. All very easy, ordered a non alcoholic IPA and ordered deli food, thinking it would take a good half hour to arrive. To my surprise, the guy from the deli arrived with the hogies within 10 minutes which was great. Hogies were well wrapped up, and was provided with paper plates, cutlery and napkins. The food from the deli was outstanding, known for their huge sandwiches and hogies so I had a 'dinky' hogie and my associate had a regular one. Both NY hogies, and I asked for mine to be made with turkey instead of beef, which was obliged. So tasty, really enjoyed the coleslaw, the turkey was lovely and soft and plenty of it. Overall a great experience, I'll definitely head back, especially in the winter for somewhere nice, cosy and quiet to sit, drink, eat and read a book if you wanted. This review goes hand in hand for both Bubs and NY Deli, both 5 stars for service and food/drinks. Definitely recommend, and you're supporting two wonderful local businesses.

Ironically I had the Euro bagel with pastrami, gherkin and cream cheese but it was lush! Great service despite lockdown restrictions.
