New Treasure Garden in Richmondshire

Thought it must be under new management. We went for tea, waited ages for food. The kitchen apparently lost our order, the food wasn’t good and on leaving I felt unwell, stopped the car to be sick. The takeaway took priority and the restaurant was neglected 😢

Takeaway service- very poor ordered online sat for over 40 minutes After arranged collection time!!! Which was half an hour after the food was ordered via online service. One customer was offered drinks ( alcohol two pints and he was driving!) while waiting but no one else! Won’t order online again. Visited the restaurant two weeks ago- food is good but again waited a long time then too.

When Eva snd Eddy had this restaurant it was always brilliant. Sadly it is now under new ownership. Our visit on Sunday was dreadful. We had spent two days trying to phone to book and realise now that with one staff member running take away and restaurant - the phone is not answered It is on line take away which seems very busy whilst the restaurant was neglected. Two people walked out after waiting for ages to get even a menu and drinks order The young lady serving spent all her time saying sorry. No food warmers. Cold bowls which has stood uncovered and incredibly unwelcoming The food was mediocre in taste and sadly all 3 of us were unwell during the night We will not return

Worst beef curry ever, loaded with onions hardly any beef. Chips were completely totally uneditable.

Truly delicious food for our fixed meal for 2 - the best in memory in a Chinese Restaurant actually with super-fast service for each course. This restaurant has recently got extra staff to help with service and we noticed how quick the service is here and it was quite busy too. The food was "out of this world" - Food was cooked & served in minimal time. We had Prawn Crackers / Dip with the most delicious Crispy Duck with Pancakes that I have ever tasted - We could not believe how good this dish was ! ( Shredded by a most kind / beautiful server ) and then we had shared beef in black bean sauce and seszhwan dish followed by Lychie desert / citrus fruits - EVERYTHING was so perfect and we will be 100% be returning soon - Thank You to such wonderful staff for their excellence.

Food 5/5. We had a seaweed, soups and the main. The vegetarian sweet and sour dish was so delicious - honesty best I ever had - they used cashew nuts. Would definitely love to eat there again

Just fancied a Chinese and as we were on holiday with our dogs it had to be a take away. Food was delicious and quickly prepared. Best prawn toast and prawn crackers we've ever had.

The worst dining experience ever! One member of our party was served her meal, and some rice and noodles were put on table but that meal was finished before two more meals came. Two hours after we had ordered, the rest of the party's food arrived! Celebration meal totally ruined! Galling to watch tables around eating and leaving and takeaways going out while we waited. Only after several complaints did we get some service. The waitresses seemed oblivious of the fact that most of our party had no food! The food was very nice when it came, but by that time our evening was spoiled. An apology could not make up for the appalling service.

We called at this restaurant as we were passing through Richmond. Having seen the latest reviews we were not expecting much. However we were very pleasantly surprised it was superb. Friendly staff fast service and great food. There was a constant stream of customers collecting takeaways. The tables were all reserved in the restaurant so does seem to be popular. Advise you to book Friday and Saturday evening

Ordered a takeaway tonight, big order nearly £60 which is more than we normally spend, and usually there would be plenty left over afterwards. This evenings order was really small and everyone was left hungry! And like others have said, the 10% discount has also been scrapped so even worse value for money, food was pleasant enough but portions really small compared to what they used to be like. Sadly unlikely to return now as New Treasure Garden is the most expensive Chinese around and sadly no longer the best.

I’ve eaten here for 15+ years. It has gone dramatically downhill since new ownership. Service this evening was shocking. Waited 25 mins before ordering drinks! Food was a long wait, cold, and incorrect on arrival, won’t be rushing back unfortunately as this was a favourite restaurant of mine.

Hi we were staying in Richmond in nearby lodges and decided to have a Chinese takeaway, checked on Trip advisor and this place came out with the best reviews. Yes it was nice, ready on time to collect but for us it just seemed a little bland , no real flavour to it, we had 3 different dishes and they all just seemed the same , lovely well cooked just nothing special in our opinion.

Brilliant takeaway, if your hungry this is the place to go! The girl on front of house was very attentive despite being very busy. The premises very clean and takeaway was ready very quickly and very tasty. We will definitely be coming back.

New Treasure Garden excels in the quality of food and service. I had given feedback the last time I visited about waiting times in between our starters and main courses. On this occasion, we received a 5-star service. The quality of the food was outstanding as always. I am also delighted to say the staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. There was a significant improvement in the waiting time between our courses. You can always tell a great place when the owners take comments on board and endeavour to do everything they can to ensure it doesn't happen again. We were humbled by the kindness and thoughtfulness of the owner giving us a delicious bowl of fruit after our meal and also very tasty biscuits. It was a real treat and I couldn't think of anything negative to say about New Treasure Garden. I really believe it is the real treasure of North Yorkshire and it is worth every penny. What a great place!!!

I took my son there on his birthday. We ordered two separate meals and prawn crackers. They bought our meals as expected and the food was good. However , the potion of prawn crackers was small and the accompanying rice came on one plate for both of us, was seriously not enough. Overall the service and the food was good, but I felt they were holding back on the portions sizes. Especially the rice and crackers and for this reason, I would not go there again. We both felt disappointed as we had been there before and this was not the case.

Just had the most delightful take away from here. Portions not massive which was fine as the quality far outweighed the quantity. Every single element was finished up and everyone full and content. The curry was especially nice. Lovely meal ready on time. Definitely worth the money.

Well. I’m speechless. Having spent a short time in Richmond, it was made abundantly clear that this is a town with income. High end Restaurants such as Frenchgate, Rustique and further down the fine dining line, pubs such as the black lion which offer fabulous food, very reasonably priced certainly portray this image. Having read the reviews on Treasure garden, and craving authentic Chinese I settled on this establishment. What a disappointment. Alarm bells rang when I realised the waiting staff were not only not Chinese, but probably 6 months out of school. I’m sure the pc brigade will be spitting out lentils as they read this. But when you go to an Italian trattoria you feel happy to be served by an Italian. Equally an Indian (let’s be honest Bangladeshi or Pakistani in reality), restaurant wouldn’t be just that without staff employed as relatives of the owner. It adds to the authenticity. No? Hence the term “family run restaurant.” This from start to finish was an abhorrent mess. Being served by two teenagers doused in cheap offensive perfume was only the beginning...irrespective - the food was astonishing. I now realise the positive reviews are written by gastronomical experts who view deep fried air masquerading as spring rolls as food - to be the cause of this establishment’s illusions of grandeur. It is abhorrent. They can’t even fry “seaweed.” It’s so simple - yet I received blackened, oily wet cabbage. Revolting. The char Sui pork was at best borderline ok. They claim to sell dim sum. What they don’t tell you is that this is the cheap pre made bought in frozen variety. Grey in colour and sickly in flavour. I actually found it hilarious more than upsetting - how appalling the rice was. Over cooked. More egg than rice - and like a cheap takeaway in south London: salty, swe I dare the owners to visit Manchester or London. They’d be chased out of town. What an expensive shame!

We arrived late for our booking but were welcomed in and allowed to stay and enjoy our meal well after the official serving time. The staff helpfully described the favourite or popular dishes on the menu and were patient as we were a party of 5 taking our time to choose. The food was delicious and very good value for money.

Fantastic food and great service. The salt and pepper squid is to die for. Kung Po was tasty and owner was very friendly and even gave us a bag of home baked cookies to take away after we complemented the chef. Been twice now and will go back again.

Firstly, the staffs very unhelpful and arrogant. I called earlier for reservation for family of three. They showed us the seat attached to kitchen which was literally separated by curtain. The food bell just next to us that buzzed literally every second. The busy kitchen noise was very annoying.The restaurant was pretty empty with few reserved seatings. I did ask them to adjust us away from the kitchen and also mentioned my family were willing to squeeze in 2 seating area with my child on child seat. The waitress clearly didn't seem to make any effort and refused my request. She insisted that is the only seating available for family of three and cannot do anything about it.They seemed to be least bothered. In the end we decided to leave but left with our order for take away. To be honest the food is average but the staff and their attitude was unacceptable. Will never recommend to my friends or family.

The food is outstanding and on every occasion, it has exceeded expectations. The only disappointing factor is the starters are usually quick to come out however, it is normally a very long wait for the main course. Unfortunately, we waited over 1 hour and 20 minutes on both occasions for the main meal. It is for this reason I only gave it a 4 star although I would have liked to have given it a 5 star based on the food.

Had dinner here a couple of days ago and will definitely be back. The service was outstanding and, despite it being busy, our food came very quickly. I had the fillet of steak in garlic and place pepper with fried noddles and it was absolutely delicious. One of the best Chinese restaurants I have been to.

What an amazing takeaway, very impressed. We were a little sceptical to start with because of the high prices compared to our normal takeaways, but thought we would give it a go as we were on holiday. So glad we did as this was by far the best quality Chinese food we have had anywhere. The only down side is that it is not in Bristol. This restaurant looks tiny from the outside but is surprisingly big inside. We decided to go for the set menu for two and there was no problem substituting one of the dishes for something else. The restaurant was very busy with a large group but the service was good - the serving staff really earn their money! Food was great - very enjoyable.

We have eaten at the Treasure Garden on a number of occasions over the last 28 years, and on the whole we have enjoyed the food and experience. During our most recent visit we felt the interior was looking dated. Service was mixed - some were friendly and enthusiastic whilst others were disinterested and just went through the motions. We chose the 'set menu for three' and enjoyed the crispy duck; however the chicken and sweetcorn soup and main course dishes were rather uninspiring. The set menus are of reasonable value, but we left feeling that unless the restaurant has a major overhaul we wouldn't visit again.

What a terrific place this is. The decor is very authentic and the music adds to the ambience. Staff are cheerful and efficient and a very extensive menu assures everyone gets their favourite.

Don't let the frontage fool you! Once inside the restaurant is spacious, tastfully decorated and the staff are friendly and efficient. We had one of the best chinese meals we have ever had and very reasonably priced. Definitely one to recommend.

I was really surprised by the range of vegetarian options. It was lovely to have such choice and we opted for the set menu which was varied and really very nice. Great value for money we left full and the quality of everything we had was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. Visited this restaurant friday 9th feb as soon as we went in we were greeted with a warm welcome by becca we opted for the set menu we recieved prawn crackers quickly followed by a big bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup to share which was very tasty. The next course was shredded duck with pancakes I was pleasantly surprised by how much there was next came our mains of schezuan beef and chicken curry which wasnt on the special but they gladly changed for us as I dont like black bean sauce accompanied by special fried rice the service was very quick and we found all the staff to be very pleasant and attentive especially becca who made sure we had drinks and anything we needed would definately recommend this restaurant and will definately go back also forgot to add the ice cream and the lovely gesture of the owner who gave us a bag of her home made cookies

First time take away from NTG. Waited 40 minutes after being told we could stay and wait 15 or go away and wait 90 minutes. I visually checked the order which was correct but on arriving home, found 2 dishes missing. After eating the remaining dishes, was very pleased of the error. The beef was OK but the chicken curry/satay/with mushrooms was simply a gelatinous mass of tasteless sauce with tasteless meat and veg 'suspended' within. We all ended up sitting around marvelling at how anyone who could progress to being a chef could produce such a disaster letting the 'sauce' drip from our spoons and forming alien shapes in the plastic containers. At least that part was vaguely entertaining unlike the takeaway experience. So, off the the biscuit tin for tea and £55 quid lighter for the experience. Cannot wait for the Thai to re-open which was the only reason we tried this disaster of a takeaway experience.

Spotted this place whilst staying near by in a cottage, called in on Saturday night, it was busy but was asked to call back in an hour for a table for two. Worth the wait, the food was beautiful, really tasty, special curry and sechuan king prawn was delicious. Nice atmosphere and full of locals as well as visitors which is always good to see.

We were here to celebrate a 50s birthday. It was a Saturday night so the restaurant was as expected very crowded . We had a large table as there were nine of us in number. I as a vegetarian ordered a vegetarian diet , Curd and Chinese mushrooms . The waitress set out not p!ages on the revolving centre table and the dishes were served from here into individual bowls. The service was swift and the staff polite and cheerful. After our main course the waitress brought out a huge bowl of fruit salad which was quickly demolished. Parking can be a problem around the market square but the restaurant is well worth a visit .

I’ve been using this Chinese restaurant for many years the food and service has always been outstanding, the welcome always friendly. Would recommend a set menu so that you get a taste of many dishes . I’ve taken many friends to dine that have all become regular customers.
