New Long King's Chinese Restaurant in Scarborough

Very disappointing for a chinese restaurant. The pancake rolls were really nice. The chicken chow mein was bland and greasy. The staff were great. The restaurant wasn't full but was rather noisy.

Been waiting to try this place for a while Unfortunately it was a cold night and the restaurant was so cold that the food went cold before we could eat it. We were the only people in there so there was no atmosphere and the lighting is way too bright. Portion sizes were very small. The duck and the King. prawn dish had obviously been cooked several times and were very chewy and dry and all of the food was very bland. The only two things that were reasonably ok were the spare ribs but we were given four ribs for three of us to share and the egg fried rice but they decided to put two portions into one bowl and still charge for two.🤷🏻‍♂️ Not thrilled.

Greeting upon entering was poor. Really shocked that it was cash only as we were told they dont wanna pay the commission on card payments. Food was below average, crispy chilli beef was stale, but when gave it back was told i should have asked for it to be crispy if thats how we wanted it. Surely the clue is in the name. Soup was absolutely tasteless. Chow mein was fine, and oyster sauce was really nice. Paid by bank transfer as we had no cash, but would not return to this restaurant. Needs a refurb desperately. When we spoke to the staffat the end and said they would get more people through the door if they took card, her answer was, shes doing alright, yet only 3 people sitting on another table all night!

This place might not be the most enticing looking restaurant from the outside, and if I am honest, the furnishings and decoration on the inside is a little date.....but....my goodness the food is great. We have eaten in here and had take away meals as well and have always found the taste and quality to be really good. The are always friendly when you go in. Worth noting that they only take cash (there is a cast point at cost cutters round the corner)

Food brilliant, service fabulous

Come for evening meal. We shared spring rolls for a starter which was plenty. For my main meal I had Chicken Satay and I have to say it was the tastiest Satay I've ever had.

Beautiful food, went here 2 nights in a row, if you haven't had the salt and pepper shredded beef you haven't lived, also recommend the beef chow mein, very very nice

Probably the worst Chinese we have ever had. The food had no flavour and the chips tasted liked they had been reheated from the day before. It went in the bin £20 down the drain!!!

We had a lovely meal here last week! It was cash only, which would have been perfectly fine with us had we been expecting it, still, I should have rung up, I suppose. I had the chicken fried rice and a curry sauce, and it was absolutely lovely! My family members loved their meals as well, very tasty!

Great food, even greater service, the staff members are trying their best. But wait, cash only? I had to walk all the way to town centre to the nearrest cash point, and back. Therefore, no tips from me! Time to get more 21st century guys!

Had lovely food in this restaurant. I had the chicken in black bean sauce, my partner had beef with mushrooms, and we had egg fried rice and noodles on the side. Very tasty. Service was friendly and efficient.

We have just come home from a week in Whitby and had a takeaway from Long King one evening. We were a bit wary of the mixed reviews, but it turned out to be one of the best meals of the holiday. We 'phoned in the order and it was coming out of the kitchen when I arrived to collect; packed in good quality containers inside a shallow cardboard box, ideal for carrying in a car without any accidents. Very thoughtful. The Long King staff were excellent: welcoming and efficient. All in all, the food was very good, but a touch on the bland side. I see the restaurant's usual response to such comments is that their clientele don't like anything too spicy. That may be so, but our Hot and Sour soup was sweet rather than sour. We missed the usual bite. The mains and rice were more than fine, though we'd chosen items which are not usually heavily spiced. I'd certainly eat again at Long King, hopefully in the restaurant next time.

Great Chinese the only major stumbling point it is cash only which is difficult when there are no cash machines for miles, there is a cost cutter that does cash back but that limited our choice of food and drink to £50, which is a shame as the food we had was lovely but didn't get to sample more having to go for the cheapest set menu but would go again but with cash in advance

Awful, truly awful. Tom Yam Soup, supposed to be hot & spicy ..... completely tasteless. House special Vermicelli, noodles were soft (not crispy as Vermicelli should be), cold, and hardly any meat / prawns. Mixed Starter, absolutely terrible. A couple of tiny butterflied prawns in lots of breadcrumbs, a couple of defrosted spring rolls, a little seaweed, tasteless ribs, no dim sum etc etc. AND, it's more expensive than 99% of Manchester's finest. Worst Chinese meal out of hundreds we've enjoyed worldwide. Honesty, a terrible experience. I can only assume that this is a Chinese family's drive to make money, but not a single one of the staff could possibly have any culinary training or dedication. Please ........ do not waste your hard earned money at this place. Marks out of 10 ........ minus .. 2 !!

The building was clean and tidy. It was within an older building and you could tell it was a bit tired however it was clean... So not to worry. The food was on the higher end of prices but it was lovley. You could probably share rice between two people if you have a lighter appetite. They had a 'lazy Susan' spinning table centre- who doesn't love those. I'd be happy to visit again. It was cash only when I visited.

First time visiting Whitby with a group of friends. Good view of the sea, sunset nearby. Food was legit, Salt and pepper prawns were top notch! Good drinks selection, draft beer on tap. Definitely would recommend. Better than most Newcastle chinese restaurants for such a good price. Shredded Beef Chilli is also a must, perfectly paired with rice.

Really disappointing tasteless watery food with tough meat - expensive too

I just recently dined here, TWICE! Over the weekend. The food especially smokey beef/chicken, salt & pepper prawns, garlic scallops and spring onion lobster was incredible, exceeding my expectations. The food here reminded me of home as I’m from South East Asia. Service was exceptional and staff were attentive to our needs even though they were very busy. 100% recommend this restaurant for food lovers!

They hand made their spring rolls which is crispy and not oily with scrumptious vermicelli fillings. A must to order on top of their salt and pepper prawns and squid. Service is prompt at a reasonable price for the value that you’re getting. We enjoyed watching the sunset through the window aisle by the sea. Highly recommend it!

Amazing food!! Especially the plum sauce chicken & fried shrimp! Highly recommend this to anyone who visit the town and crave for some legit Chinese food!

Just picked up salt and pepper ribs that are supposed to be spiced. Just tiny bits of pork fat in aload of veg. 4 spring rolls that are anemic, the rest of the dishes are slop. Cannot recommend at all £29 for nothing but disgusting food. You should be ashamed as your not even busy.

I ordered a takeout at 4.45 today for my son to pick up at 5.10 for dinner. while I busy. When I came out of my conference call all the food was still on plates in kitchen as no one could eat it. The chips were hard they said, it was like they’d been refried a few times. The special sweet and sour had one prawn in and the rest was pork, so not that special. The beef curry had a burnt taste like it was barbecued. The one item that was edible was veg/chow main. But not enough of it for three teenagers to share. I know I have an accent so they thought I’d not come back. Well sorry we live here and won’t be coming back. £26 for rubbish. When I contact the restaurant the young man couldn’t hear me for shouting in the background and didn’t seem to care. So not very caring to there customers, especially as we live here and need to eat out occasionally. My thoughts are don’t go at 5 o’clock because you’ll probably not get fresh.

Staff friendly and helpful. Only cash! That was a pain honestly. The food was nice. Portion on the small size so I suggest getting a starter etc. the decor is a tad bizarre, colour wise etc. but we still had a nice view out of the window and that’s all that mattered for me when the food taste nice enough. We weren’t left feeling thirsty like most restaurants!

Cash only orders Food was good, gentle flavours and tasty. Cost £20.90 for 3 dishes Main entrance is not wheelchair friendly. It consists of two steps up

The food was beautiful piping hot and tasty the meat was very tender in both meals. The wait staff were very attentive and made sure we were looked after for the entire meal.

I really wanted to like this place based on the good reviews. But on visiting it I didn't enjoy it at all! Even worse when I persuaded 3 other people that it would be great!! The room we were in was freezing for a start. I appreciate that the conservatory was being redecorated but still.....on a cold November night I expected it warmer. The food was poor. Plates hot but not so much the food. I had a chicken dish. It looked and tasted bland. And not like chicken? And I could distinctly taste bleach which really put me off. What saved our night was the Metunes bar next door. Sorry Long King but it was a big no from us

I wasn't able to try the food or experience the service as I didn't have a pocketful of cash. In a world where it's getting evermore difficult to pay by cash, not accepting cards isn't helpful.

When we go to Whitby we use Long King for our takeout. They are a great bunch and very patient. They always know your order when it comes out. They are fast at production of the dishes. I would recommend them to everyone. The dishes are very tasty and plentiful. You must give them a try.

We were staying in Whitby & didn't want a fish meal, all ready had 3 (all fish restaurants here) so went for Chinese & didn't regret it, absolutely lovely 😋 I recommend long king 👍🏻 friendly staff & reasonable prices.

The only proper Chinese restaurant in Whitby

A great Chinese! It was a short walk from our hotel on our first night in Whitby so needed somewhere convenient, but this delivered so much more! We ordered quite a lot of stuff and none of it was claggy, overly salty or heavy - you could tell it was cooked to order and made from fresh. Thoroughly recommend the hors d'oeuvres for starters, and the mixed chow mein. Just a heads up though, at the time we went, they only accepted cash, but the walk to the nearby Costcutter for cashback was worth the extra steps! A tad bit more pricey than normal, but you're paying for quality. Will deffo be coming back again next time we're in Whitby!

My takeaway meal was spot on. Parked up on West Cliff in my truck waiting to do a delivery next morning, this was just what I needed.

Ok, if expensive food spoilt by having to pay in cash. In this day and age what restaurants don’t accept cash. We only had so much so had to order less and no drink. When the nearest cash point is 15mins away that’s just madness. Sumup, izettle it’s cheap and easy to take card payments, their margins at their expensive prices cannot be that small. The only reason can be to avoid reporting your revenue. What other reason? Disappointed I supported them, but being so far away from the town centre on a bank holiday, we had no option.

Not very good had beef chow mein all the veg put me off with the smell off cabbage which I don't like very greasy beef was chewy would not go back.

A typical British Chinese restaurant It really saved my life in Whitby, where fish and chips are everywhere. I told the clerk that there is a hidden menu in Chinese. The stir-fried pork with cabbage is good. Cards cannot be swiped, but cash or bank transfer is accepted.

It’s not easy to find a Chinese restaurant in a small town with almost nothing but fish and chip shops. The staff are very friendly and can speak Chinese or Cantonese with them. Because we don’t want to eat Western-style Chinese food, the clerk helped the chef to explain it to us. I made several dishes and pork dumplings that are more in line with Chinese tastes. Takeaway is very convenient, and locals buy it in boxes for the whole family to eat. Note that it’s cash only - but we didn’t have cash, so the clerk helped us use bank transfer. Wish you a prosperous business👍

Last visited pre covid, thoroughly enjoyed coming back, lovely friendly staff. Stunning views from the Conservatory. As a veggie, I enjoyed the food, but could have done with a chilli warning! My Brother-in-Law enjoyed the meat and fush options. I will go back, but need to check chilli levels. Decent shared car park with the pub, there is a ramp to the left hand side of the pub.

Ate here last night, we thought it was very disappointing. The chicken was not very nice - very poor quality! Aromatic duck pancakes were the only nice thing we had, kids liked the chips.

Called in on the off chance to see if they had a table available. They had so we booked. Went for a drink next door. On our return the waitress asked if we could wait a couple of minutes as she was going to clean a table that had become available with a seaview. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious and the service professional and attentive. Excellent value for money and good size portions. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to whitby

Update, visited today(3/6/22) and pretty much had what we had before, again beautiful food and great staff. Still cash only though. (September 21) We ate at the restaurant and hadn't booked, they do currently have a few covid restrictions still in place, they require your contact details and a temperature check. The food we ordered was really good, the crispy beef in sweet chilli sauce was easily my favorite. Quite quick service too. One thing to remember when we went it was cash only.

Group booking earlier this evening food was outstanding and very good value food was served nice and hot staff very friendly and helpful really worth a visit
