New Holmwood Hotel & Restaurant in Isle of Wight

For a hotel restaurant that is part of a chain and under the BW brand, this is simply the best food that I have had for a week long work stay in 30 years. All food is cooked to order and the menu is by far and away above what you would expect from a chain. Will definitely stay again for work or leisure.

Absolutely the Beat Breakfast in the UK. Fresh fruit, crispy bacon, salmon and scrambled eggs to die for…X

David and Julian and there team were very professional and nothing was to much trouble and very accommodating, made our wedding day perfect and stress free. Food was excellent rooms where a good size and the beds were so comfortable. James was our main waiter for breakfast and throughout the weekend and was very professional and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

Very Disappointing experience! Lovely position overlooking the Solent We were only table eating but one more came in. This is Cowes in August, with great views! Why is this place not heaving!! We took a friend and haven't eaten in this Restaurant before. We ordered drinks and our guest had a Gin & Tonic. The ice had nearly melted and no slice of lemon.The meal was like a "Brake Brothers meal" Our friend had Scampi which had no taste at all, so he left most of it . The rest of the meal was as we said was like a school dinner! My lamb burger with feta which hadn't melted was hard and not good. All together a a bad experience. And not cheap at just under £26 a head!

A very average Best Western with it would seem one man does almost anything. Opened the front door, showed us our table, took our order and served our food. Very average

Lovely location and staff and food good. Very comfortable. Took my mother for her 90th birthday in a party of 7 and informed them several times it was a special day. Cutlery left in bundles in centre of table for us to distribute and no mention of my mother’s birthday at all with her dessert which is common . Not made to feel it was a special day. Sent two messages on their website to say this was a little disappointing as we often eat here. No reply at all. Called today and told manager will respond. Still waiting. My mother feels very comfortable at this hotel so this has all been a bit of a let down and disappointing as otherwise lovely.

The food was so good especially the mushroom spinach and brie tart and the pecan and honeycomb semifreddo. Lovely friendly staff and a lovely sea view. Thank you

As a regular guest at the hotel for Sunday lunch, I would always rate it as amazing. However today was spectacular! All 3 courses were something new on the menu, and they were delicious - the kitchen raised the bar again. Thank you!

I highly recommend this hotel. The staff without exception were wonderful. Efficient and helpful, friendly and professional. Lovely downstairs room..the facilities were ideal for my disabled husband. Lovely touch of fresh bottled water biscuits and a chocolate left when the room was serviced each day. We stayed 5 days and the food was outstanding. Specials menu most nights, main menu was superb with excellent choices of starters, mains and desserts. All home cooked with fresh garden veggies. The chef is just terrific. We had coffee after in the lounge which had an amazing sea view from the lounge, dining room and decking areas. Lunches were great. Good value and choice. Breakfasts superb cooked food and extensive cold buffet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend to couples for a quiet break. So pleased we stayed here!

Beautiful view, has its own parking, staff are friendly. Nearly £5 for a pot of fruit tea with an Aldi tea bag...... £8 for a pot of bog standard coffee for 2, literally 2 cups. Teacake was nice but was either a little stale when toasted or had been in the freezer and had a little freezer burn - came with a lovely cold pat of butter and a pot of jam and despite the crunch it was ok. Staff were incredibly friendly. Toilets were clean and fresh.

This place had been recommended to us by some friends and so we thought we’d give it a try for our Anniversary meal. Wow we wasn’t disappointed,Great service excellent food and a view to die for Definitely be going back.

Booked the function room for a golden wedding. The team were superb with great communication beforehand, and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet food was delicious, with excellent choice including veg/vg and gf options. The location is amazing, and the views across the solent stunning.

From opening the entrance door, to leaving, we felt like the staff were doing their jobs because they enjoyed it. !00% helpful, friendly, joking and happy. The service was the best we've had anywhere. Food was plentiful, cooked perfectly and at a good price. A good percentage of the clientele were repeat visitors who knew each other, as did the staff, which tells it's own story. Didn't get asked almost before i'd put anything in my mouth, if "everything was allright" which was a relief as i always think that they are told to ask, but aren't really bothered. I'd like to think that it's because they know things are good, and if not, we would have a quiet word. Will we be back? Most definitely yes.

We came for just two nights in late November. Slept in a sea view double, good room, great views. The restaurant both for dinner and breakfast was superb. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Thank you. We will definitely return.

This restaurant may be a throwback to the seventies in terms of decor but it delivers good food with great service. We ate here each of the three nights we stayed and had consistently tasty dishes. There is a relatively small standard menu and a choice of special every evening. The view from the main restaurant is stunning although the overflow room, understandably necessary for social distancing, is less inspiring.

Had a beautiful meal here for my Aunt's 70th birthday. Our food was cooked perfectly. Would definately eat here again but would have 3 courses as was still a bit hungry after.

As a group of 6 we struggled to find somewhere we could book a table in Cowes - which turned out to be surprisingly quiet when we got here. Luckily we remembered the New Holmwood where we have stayed many times for boat racing weekends. They didn’t have accommodation available but we could make a dinner reservation. We had a lovely evening and the food was perfect for our family group - something that everyone could choose including our veggie teenager. Lovely attentive service and a pleasant table in the air conditioned dining room with a great beach view.It’s not the trendiest of places but the meal was great - and with Mr Sunak’s discount added we were all happy.

Stayed for five nights, great location with walking distance to Cowes. The food in the hotel is reasonable priced and very good quality. Rooms are sufficient for the price but due to COVID some of the extras have been removed. The staff are friendly and well trained.

Family staying at the hotel so we dined quite late in the evening as a last minute thing. Awesome service. Restaurant laid out perfectly for Covid restrictions. Menu was great and I can highly recommend the sea bass. Prices are also very reasonable which always helps in a hotel. Amazing sea views especially later on in the evening. Would certainly recommend and visit again.

We have just had a most enjoyable lunch on the Terrace, booked throughthe Price is Wight. Superb location overlooking the Solent, delicious food expertly prepared and presented and good portion sizes, just right for lunch. Excellent value for money. Service was welcoming, friendly and efficient (reception and restaurant staff). We will return!

We got a price is wight voucher for the afternoon tea. We were welcomed at the reception and the staff were very attentive. The afternoon tea was delicious. Lovely sandwiches, scone, 3 cakes topped off with strawberries dipped in chocolate. It was all packaged with everything we needed. We sat on the beach opposite the hotel to eat it! Would definitely visit for something to eat again

found this hotel thanks to the television programme didnt know the hotel was dog friendly within 24 hours had booked on arrival made to feel really welcomethe hotel as fantastic views of the solent from the restaurant lounge and especially the sun terrace something happening all the time on the water even the empty cruise liners turning in front of youthe hotel is lovely with clean rooms and beutiful food served by pleasant and friendly waitersas dog owners we were made to feel welcome with water bowls and dog treats given thanks to the owners dave and kathy for a fantastic welcome nothing was to much trouble during these troublesome timeswill be booking again next year once again thank you to all the hard working and polite staff for giving us a fantastic stay

I visited with two family members yesterday for lunch. I phoned in the morning to check availability and was pleasantly surprised that my enquiry was met with such a high standard of service. The lady I spoke with was friendly, polite, informative, and seemed genuinely interested in my booking. This made me excited to visit, as being in the hospitality business myself I’m highly critical. Any concerns I had were quickly dispelled. On arrival I was met (by name)with a warm reception and politely asked to wait to be seated because of new ‘Covid-19’ regulations. We were seated in a beautiful room with tables nicely spaced apart and immediately made to feel welcome by all members of staff. Enjoying a light lunch of sandwiches, a delicious cheese omelette, garlic bread etc accompanied by some perfectly chilled wine we enjoyed not only the ambience of the room but also the beautiful view and deked terrace that we all agreed would be lovely in better weather. The whole experience was first class from start to finish. I can’t wait to revisit, probably next week. I highly recommend anyone to enjoy this ‘top notch’ establishment. Well done to all involved. 5 stars from me, without hesitation.

We were celebrating a dear friends Birthday. From the minute we arrived we were given superb service and everything was superb. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. We had our evening dinner in their restaurant and what a great decision that was.....fantastic !!!!!!! The food was well cooked ,very tasty and perfect.

We are regulars at the hotel and although we didn't have dinner this time (We were attending a function in Gurnard) the breakfast was, as always, piping hot, tasty and served beautifully. We normally have dinner which is always lovely. You can't go wrong with the New Holmwood

Meals are served in a comfortable restaurant with views across the Solent.The menu is varied, with specials for each evening. The food is delicious! As a group we tried different dishes and recommended them to each other, so it was fun working through some of the menu options! We could have gone to other restaurants but chose to eat here every evening during our stay and all decided we had made the right decision. Highly recommended!

We stayed here for a whole week as we had a conference in Cowes. Perfect for us, it was a great base, only a 15 minute walk into Cowes itself. Nice, quiet area and the views do not disappoint, lovely to sit out (or in) with a glass or two and enjoy the comings and goings on the Solent, cruise ships, container ships, ferry, yachts of every size, luxury boats etc etc, fascinating viewing. Our particular room was clean and tidy and very well serviced, staff were very helpful and friendly. Car park sometimes full but there are a few options to park free on the road (the road is fairly quiet and wide) so again, no problem, during our whole week there were no problems parking. Breakfast good with lots of options and the restaurant also very good, I maybe would have liked to see some more sea food options on the menu but that might be the case at other times and I am really being picky as it was an unfaultable stay! On the last night we also witnessed the most spectacular sunset which the area is known for! Perfect end to a cracking week, would recommend highly and would stay here again without hesitation!

My boyfriend and I have had lunch here before which was good and the recent lunch here was every bit as good. We love to sit on the terrace watching all the boats to and fro and look back across to the mainland (where we both live). We took the lovely ferry ride from Southampton and walk along the promenade to the hotel. We had a glass of white wine outside then both ordered the lasagne, chips (yes with lasagne, better than garlic bread) and salad, both were excellent. The service and friendliness of the staff is always excellent too. We also ordered a bottle of house red and sat for a long time enjoying the views. We keep meaning to book one or two nights at this hotel as we like it so much, perhaps next year. Would highly recommend.

The location is suburb, we sat on the balcony which has recently been upgraded. The view is stunning, the best in Cowes! The food was very good and well presented. The staff were helpful, polite and attentive. A superb lunch with family in an excellent location, thank you!

We came here with some friends for the Cowes Week Fireworks evening - it was not what we anticipated because of the rain BUT despite this we had as superb evening with an excellent view (better than we remember of the fireworks) - not been here for sometime but the food was superb - thank you very much David and your staff.

we were staying in an apartment nearby and had an 3 course evening meal in the restaurant good choices on the menu all the food was served hot and was delicious you can also have a drink and the meal on the terrace overlooking the solent if you want the staff was very competent and friendly

This hotel has a lovely sea view and is well maintained and very clean. The staff through out the hotel are extremely helpful and friendly and nothing is to much trouble. The bedrooms have nice little touches like chocolates, boiled sweets, bottled water as well as the normal tea,coffee, biscuits etc, and also lovely toiletries. The restaurant was pleasant with a lovely view of the sea and the service and the food were excellent! The food from breakfast to lunch and dinner is amazing! As is the cream tea!! We're regulars at the hotel and always eat in the restaurant. Never a bad meal. always hot always fresh and always delicious. Service second to none every time we are there. I found this hotel when I sang at a friend's wedding now after a few stays here we will be having our own wedding here next year. David Kathy and their staff are amazing. We are always treated like friends and nothing is too much trouble. Beautiful location right by the sea. Spotlessly clean welcoming and fabulous food. I can't rate this hotel highly enough and we know our wedding next year will be in very good hands

After two excellent meals elsewhere in Cowes, I wasn’t expecting anything special in a hotel restaurant, but we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the friendly and efficient service that brought it to us. My ham hock terrine starter and seafood pasta main were each tasty, well cooked and a generous portion. Prices are reasonable. A good dining experience.

Been several times and always delighted. Had both lunch and evening meals in the very attractive restaurant and never been disappointed. Food is lovely, great choices and portions are good. All served very professionally by friendly staff. Never stayed in the hotel but highly recommended the restaurant.

Fantastic new year celebrations. Our party had spent the last 40 years celebrating new year together all over the uk. This was without doubt the best ever. Great food, great setting, amazing service, good value. Staff were amazing.

We are celebrating my fiance's birthday as we did here last year and again haven't been disappointed. David, Kathy and their staff always go that extra mile to make sure their guests receive top class service. We had a beautiful sea view room. The food as always was gorgeous but the friendliest service of anywhere we have stayed makes this hotel so special. We only live 20 minutes away but always look forward to our stay. We are treated more like family than guests and in fact we have chosen New Holmwood for our wedding in 2020. We just know our special day will be in very good hands

Another lovely Christmas Lunch at the Holmwood with our walking friends. The food was good and the staff excellent, we had our coffee in the lounge after lunch and there was no rush to get rid of us which makes for a very relaxing afternoon.

Lovely sunny day for family and friends to enjoy a perfect wedding day with ceremony and reception all here. Some photos done by nearby beach huts which I can't wait to see. Members of public took photos too. Staff worked so well yet almost invisibly so as not to intrude. Buffet food really good. Flavoured cup cakes instead of traditional cake. We had a fun photo booth, photo board of their love story, white, sparkly flip flops in organza bags for sore dancing feet & nautically decorated table for sweets. The Bride looked amazing. In house DJ great again getting everyone dancing. Live Band "Party Fusion" top quality. Venue looked beautiful with lights in curtains & 'dressed' chairs. Gave presents in at reception. Toilets clean & posh. Automatic taps and paper towel dispenser. Just don't get too close to taps when touching up your make up- they nearly got my dress wet!

We stayed for a 2 night break on the Isle of Wight.We chose this hotel because we did not want a hotel chain or a "large holiday" hotel.This turned out to be an excellent choice.The rooms were clean quiet and comfortable.The breakfast included a buffet as well as a good choice of cooked breakfast items which were cooked to order .As we did not arrive until early evening, and we were very hungry,we decided to try out the hotel restaurant. As the restaurant was clearly busy the earliest table available was not until 8pm. We decided to have a drink in the lounge and when the waitress asked if we had a reservation and we explained that it was in an hours time and we were hungry!, she promised to check with the chef to see if we could be fitted in earlier.Within 15 minutes we were sitting at a table in the restaurant by the window (our thanks to Cathy and the chef) . We chose the A la Carte Menu and everything we had was excellent with generous portions of vegetables. As we had enjoyed the meal so much we also dined in the restaurant on the second night where we chose from the Table D'Hote Menu (Good value at £24 for 3 courses).Finally, another plus was the bar offering included a local real ale!The service in this hotel cannot be faulted

We stayed at the New Holmwood for 3 nights in the "Uffa Fox" suite, a spacious room with a queen sized bed, 2 televisions and a sitting area - hence the "suite".

Because I'm a Best Western Rewards member, I booked this hotel for three days while touring around The Isle of Wight. What a lovely surprise! The staff is brilliant, special thanks to Julian, Emma, Carol and Adam for making our stay special. The food is outstanding and the housekeeping staff do a marvelous job. Each day after touring, we sat outside watching the boats go by while sipping wine. This hotel features a full bar and a full menu and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hotel used to be a private house and then a mother/baby facility. Some of the mothers return occasionally to visit. A daily newspaper is delivered to your door, wake up call service is offered and the most important feature for me, an ice-loving American; ice is available in the bar 24/7. There is free off street parking.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week with a coach party. I loved every minute the staff were brilliant and as for the food it was amazing. If I go to Isle of Wight again I would definitely stay here. Right on sea front and short walk into town

We came here for a wedding....what a treat! The breakfast was good with a lovely selection. Good coffee. I am lost for words as the staff were the friendliest and nicest people ever to encounter. They always wore a smile, so David you are doing something right!! Everything you needed in the rooms etc, tea & coffee making facilities, bottle of water, hair dryer. This was the best stay I have ever had at a hotel....such a laugh you could be yourself without the airs and graces. Sorry to disappoint you but we are going to return soon. (knickers!) x

Last minute lunch, just before a wedding and the hotel came up trumps with yummy sandwiches. We called ahead to see if anything was available and service was swift and efficient.

We have been dining at the New Holmwood for many years now and would definitely choose to go there again with friends and family.

What a delightful hotel right on the seafront in Cowes.

We visited for lunch on a sunny day and sat on the balcony overlooking the sea. What a great way to spend a relaxing couple of hours. We were looked after very well by Scotty, and served a very nice lunch whilst enjoying the amazing view. We will certainly return the next time we are on the island. Thank you very much.

Having been to this Hotel on a number of occasions over the years and always found the food and the welcome from the staff excellent. We decided to use the New Holmwood for a conference for professional Mariners from all over the Uk in 2016. As expected the food was excellent and the staff looked after everyone with that old fashioned thought that the customer is king. Over a year later I am still getting very complementary comments from those who came to Cowes and attended the conference. We still regularly go to The New Holmwood for meetings and meals.

To celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary we booked a table for ourselves and some special friends. Served by a number of staff during the evening, they were all relaxed, courteous, and engaging - as well as being themselves. All of this made for a really relaxing atmosphere.

Booked for Sunday lunch, we have not eaten here for some time, we used to be frequent visitors. Food was not of the same standard as we remember. The vegetables were under cooked, meat and potatoes were good. Starter and sweet were good. Coffee at the end of the meal was cold.

We visited on Sunday for a diamond wedding anniversary lunch. The staff were all so friendly and helpful towards my grandparents, particularly the lady with the blonde hair.

Travelling far from home working on IOW for a week. This great little hotel is an oasys! Comfortable rooms, excellent food and very helpful & courteous staff... all topped off by an amazing view! Must be lovely for a holiday and certainly makes a working week more of a pleasure!

I wavered between 3 and 4 stars for this hotel but felt on balance that it is unfair to judge it against, say, modern 5 star luxury hotels. Everything on the Island feels from another age - which is a large part of the appeal - and this hotel is entirely in keeping with its situation. It is well positioned, right on the seafront - and is reached by the chain link ferry from Cowes (next to the main ferry port) or by driving round the inlet (nowhere on the Island is more than about 20 minutes or so anyway). We were staying for a wedding elsewhere and wanted early access to our room to get changed (we arrived at 11.30 for a 3pm check in!) The staff very politely explained the room wasn't ready but then set about doing everything they could to help us. It was ready an hour later and we were also upgraded to a superior room. The corner room was spacious with views on two sides - overlooking the seafront. The hotel served our purposes perfectly, and the staff were extremely accommodating so prob 3.5 stars upgraded to 4 for service.

We stayed 2 nights and dined 1 night in the New Holmwood in March 2017. There are a variety of levels in the building. Free on site parking. Great views of the Solent. Great for walking along the prom. in both directions.

Just had a super Anniversary meal for 2 at the Restaurant. The staff were lovely, friendly and attentive. I had said, when I booked the table that it was our Wedding Aniversary and a card was waiting for for us on the reserved table, which was a lovely touch. We both chose from the Table d'Hote menu with its choice of 4 starters, 4 mains and desserts. Husband particularly enjoyed his braised steak in a red wine sauce which was very well cooked and melt in the mouth. But all the dishes were great. Wouldn't hestate to return for a meal, it was a great experience.

Excellent service and friendliness, added to superb food. As good as any we have had anywhere. The orange and Cointreau Panna cotta was delicious and coffee served in the lounge afterwards a very nice end to the experience.

From the first meeting, everything seemed good and it was, from the meal tasting, overnight stay , wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast, evening disco and Buffett and wedding suite, all was superb. The staff were all fantastic ensuring everything ran smoothly. Special menu and disabled facilities were very good. All our guests commented on the silver service wedding breakfast being incredible. Thanks to David and his team, if your looking for wedding venue, give them a visit....

We ate both in the dining room and the bar. There is a good choice of reasonably priced food which is well cooked. It is not fine dining but really well cooked food served by friendly staff.

This hotel is in a beautiful location on Cowes seafront. We enjoyed a lovely walk with our dog. We sat outside which is dog friendly and enjoyed a lovely lunch.

We went here for a birthday celebration and really enjoyed everything about it, lovely location overlooking the Solent, good food and attentive staff

Great location right on the seafront between Cowes and Gurnard, good food, and excellent attentive service- always dependable. All food served fresh.

The restaurant here is very high quality and enjoys stunning views over the solent. One warning though is to check and double check the ingredients of meals. For those with allergies or enzyme issues this is critical as even though it does not state xxx included in a menu choice you may well find that it does. Having checked the menu with care I was disappointed that various inclusions in items had not been mentioned in the menu. The sauce on the pork contained red wine, the sauce on the chicken contained white wine, even the red cabbage was made with red wine etc - tiresome and potentially dangerous ! These inclusions should be clearly spelt out on the menu.

This hotel and restaurant is first class. Food is superb, and all staff without exception are friendly and helpful.

Superb staff, superb location. cannot be bettered in Cowes. Nothing is too much for any of the staff the service is first class. The restaurant meals are excellent and again the staff wonderful. Well done and thank you

Lovely hotel, right on the seafront, quiet road out front, staff friendly and helpful, some rooms need a bit of tlc but overall a charming place to stay.

I stayed with my family (there were seven of us and a small Jack Russell dog) at the New Holmwood Hotel last weekend. The accommodation was first class, the food beautifully cooked and served. Our rooms were spotless and the staff were really kind and friendly. We stayed at this Hotel last March as we have relatives living on the Island and that is why we stayed there again. All in all they made our short break really enjoyable and I have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel and it's staff wholeheartedly, we are all looking forward to our next visit.

Revisited the Holmwood Restaurant for my wifes hm hm Birthday. Great to return, still a friendly greeting and good menu. We had a very good A la carte 3 course dinner, well cooked and lovely and hot, good wine selection and coffee in the lounge to follow. Friendly and attentive staff, all in all great evening.

We stayed here for 1 night during a conference and had a fantastic stay. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Food was of a very high standard and we were upgraded to a seaview room. Perfect.
