New China in Gwynedd

Wow!!!! 10 spring rolls.. 7 were burnt beyond edible!!...3 were still frozen!! Chicken and mushroom chew main... I've cooked chips in less fat!... sweet and sour chicken balls... I wouldn't give them to me dog or cats!!

Honestly the worst food and the attitude of the what I can only assume of the son, mother and father!!!!.... Wow!!! Didn't get our order right, and when I went back to tell them... more vile attitude!! My fiance ate his, and is now stuck on the toilet!!!!...

We were staying at the local caravan site about 10mins down the road by the lake and fancied a Chinese. What a great choice this was. The food was very tasty, and you got plenty of it. In fact, it lasted for 2 nights worth of meals and was very good value for money. I would highly recommend this place and wouldn't hesitate to use again if we go back to the area.

Food was great and super fresh, amazingly priced, and portions are huge! Will definitely visit again.

We ordered then waited 35 mins for food…pricing was ok,ordered-sweet and sour chicken,fried rice, chicken and sweetcorn soup, 2 lots of salt and pepper chips and prawn toast when I got the food the guy said they had no prawn toast and refunded for that… hen we got back to the caravan we went to eat, sweet and sour was really nice but the chicken was quite tough.. and the salt and pepper chips went in the bin as they were that spicy hot they actually burnt my throat. I would get the soup and sweet and sour again but deffo not salt and pepper.

Really nice food, huge portions and was piping hot even by the time we got it back to our holiday cottage 10mins drive away. Tasty dishes. We ordered several different mains. Was so nice we went back a couple of days later when family joined us on holiday. Cash only but cash point and post office just round the corner so not an issue

Just finished off a large portion of Chicken Curry, fried rice chips and prawn crackers! Have to say it was like the first time when we ate our first curry…. Amazing, hot, tasty and first class! You will not be disappointed 👍👏🏻👍👏🏻

We order a midweek takeaway, plenty of choice on the menu, we collected within 30mins, the food was tasty and hot, good size portions, it was reasonably priced and friendly service. The only issue was they only take cash so we had to run round to the HSBC cash point.

Had a take away last night's..... Not nice at all! So disappointed and they didn't give me my rice! Will not have a take away from there again.

Whenever we stay nearby in our holiday cottage, it's the law that we have a Chinese on Friday Night. This little gem, hidden away down a side street in Bala is fantastic. I can Highly Reccomend the Lamb in Chilli Salt. We had seaweed, 2 fried rice dishes (singapore and yung chow) Half an aromatic crispy duck, lamb in chilli salt and curry sauce. All in all, for £41, it fed the 4 of us with plenty left over. Telephoned the order in and they said 15 mins... It was ready when we got there and still piping hot when we got back to the cottage. We cannot fault this place.

Ordered two meals, one lamb curry and one chicken and mushroom. Must be the worst Chinese meals I have ever tasted, both ended up in the bin. The meals were made using cheap cuts of meat and contained bones. The lamb was chewy and not what you would expect from a welsh food establishment! You would better spend your money buying a ready meal.

The takeaway area is a bit grubby, which can be a sign. As it was the only chinese in the town, thought we'd give it a whirl. It was pretty good. We liked it. We had duck and lamb, and we ate every piece. Yum.

We travel every week from Trawsfynydd for our usual Saturday night Chinese. Cannot fault their food at all, always cooked to perfection and taste delicious. Well done New China 10/10

We ordered 5 meals and were disappointed with the quality of most of the food. The Sweet and Sour Chicken was particularly awful, as was the Special Fried Rice. One member of our group commented that the Egg Fried Rice and Curry Sauce was nice. It could be that we visited on an ‘off night’ but we won’t be returning.

Two main courses one was nice but didn't felt more reheated the freshly cooked. Chips were ok, a very good sized portion. Prawn crackers not great, as crisp as crackers I've had in the past which were a day old. Chow mein absolutely disgusting, pork tasted a bit rancid and beef was very chewy/fatty - both my wife and I are more than a couple of bites each. Last meal I had from here was also disappointing so this made my decision that I won't return unless it changes hands.

Ordered one of the meal deals for four people with an extra dish of roast pork and blackbean sauce. It was ready quickly, packaged well with the individual containers placed in a cardboard box and all the food was very tasty. I didn't have high expectations of a takeout place in the middle of Wales since I am spoilt for choice in London, but this place showed my city attitude to be wrong. Chinese takeouts are stereotyped as being overly salted and packed full with MSG but this wasn't the case. The food was well seasoned and with good portions. We even had enough left for the next day.We didn't have much interaction with the staff but they were friendly.

We were a bit dubious about this place, as it had mixed reviews. But we needn’t have worried, it was excellent. We had meal A2 for 2 people, bbq spare ribs, special rice, beef schezuan, chicken with veg and crackers. All were lovely, bbq ribs were fantastic and meaty, beef dish was hot, spicy hot, which suited me, loved it. Far too much for two people. One of the best Chinese take always we’ve had tbh.

Great Chinese food, always tasty and cooked fresh. Reasonably priced too. Can get very busy weekends and holidays so recommend phoning any order through in advance. My favourite is the beef chow mein!

We chose this takeaway as it had been recommended by the owners of our holiday cottage. The service was quick and the food was hot. The Duck curry was very tasty and the rice very light and not greasy.

We decided to risk a take away from the new china on our first evening in the area for a weeks holiday. Having read the reviews we did so with some trepidation, but we were pleasantly surprised. We fetched the food without pre ordering and at about 745 on a Friday evening waited about 15 minutes, which we thought was fine. We had 2 chicken chow wins, a Singapore noodles, spare ribs, curry sauce, BBQ sauce and prawn crackers. It was all delicious, well cooked, hot and tasty.

Stayed at Frongoch and ordered takeaway for 5 of us. Everything was piping hot and tasted great. Would recommend this takeaway if you are staying in the area. They don't have a website and no online menu but we had no problem ordering what we wanted.

Myself and family were staying in Bala for new year we wanted a special take out for New Year's Eve and this was great. The big spring rolls were the biggest iv ever seen and full of meat. Would defo go back here on a future visit my partner said the sweet and sour chicken was the best he's ever had

Over the past few months we have had very un-consistant food. This time, we will not be returning back. After waiting over an hour, we received three Chinese dishes which were burnt, greasy and chewy!!

We were on holiday in wales looking for a Chinese takeaway and stumbled across this restaurant. We phoned through our order and it was ready to collect when we arrived. Excellent service considering it was a large order. The food was very tasty, some of the best we've had. Would definitely recommend.

Whilst camping at Glanllyn - (group of 20) we decided to have take out, from various places in Pala, - about 12 of us ordered from New China, and although we pre-ordered early to pick up at 8pm, half our order wasnt ready, so had to do two trips to save the first have spoiling, - in defence of New China it was bank holiday weekend and they were very busy - On the positive side, the food was lovely and extremely generous portions - next time it will be 1 meal between 2

A takeaway should not take an hour to make. Fact. The food itself was kind of OK - an average, common or garden Chinese takeaway.

My family and I ordered from here on our last night on holiday. It was literally the single worst take away I have ever had. I hate complaining if I have a bad meal but I ended up taking the entire tray of food back the the shop and asking for a refund. This was met with an aggressive reaction from the owners. We didn't want to make a scene but unfortunately the owners clearly did. The beef was obviously days old, the salt an pepper chips were horrid, they forgot to give us 2 items of our order, the sweet and sour chicken balls were rock hard and impossible to eat. Even the prawn crackers were terrible. Half of them were soggy and the other half hard and stale. Seriously recommend you don't order from this place. I read the reviews before hand and thought people must be fussy. They're not. It's terrible.

Las tostadas de gambas clasificado y nadando en aceite viejo. Cualquiera que piense que todo esto es lo que China necesita llevar es sobre salir más. . . . . . Sin duda un poco más lejanos. de Bala.

Read the 39 reviews and all looked really great but the food was bloody awful!! Spent £20 which was good value, but the lemon chicken was chewy and not fresh, the lemon sauce was awful and resembled something you use to clean toilets, the rice I'm pretty sure wasn't fresh, the salt & pepper chips were cooked in old, burned oil which coated the chips in black charred bits and the chips were also burned. Surely changing oil regularly is vital!!The chicken chow me in was the only edible item and even that tasted of burned onion!I ordered a portion of meat spring rolls and what I got was a huge spring roll that was absolutely dripping in fat.That much so, it filled half an average wine glass!!The staff were rude on the phone and not welcoming at all so I'd strongly suggest you eat elsewhere.

Always have a take-away from here when we visit our Cottage hideaway near Corwen, Never had a bad meal, plenty of meat/prawns in the specials and very well priced too.

Generous portions and fine quality. Worth visiting again and again. We had heard about this takeaway from friends and they had said that they had been told 30 minutes and they had spent an hour waiting before it was ready. However, they had also said that once started, the taste of the food washed away that issue for them.Personally, my experience was much better and we were told 15 minutes and it was ready as we walked through the door 12 minutes later.The people there provide an excellent service that is both kind and helpful

Sat in the White Lion having a couple of drinks, when both of us said we fancied a Chinese, as it was our first afternoon in Bala did not know where one was. On looking out the window from the bar area, noticed this establishment just over the road. Went over and ordered food, advised 25 minute wait so went back and had another drink. Collected meal and went back to where we were staying, the food was very good. It was one of the best Chinese takeaways that we have had.This is not a restaurant but a very good takeawayCertainly recommend to anyone.Mick Northampton

The young chap behind the counter just looked confused all the time which made it difficult. They only except cash which needs payed at time of order. Food was hot but not great. We'll not eat from here again.

Went here on chance having not read any reviews while camping in Bala. A bit wary of the hygiene rating being only 2 but gave it a go - food was good but expensive - no rice included not even boiled and so the rice portions for 3 people came to £6.90 and as rice is one of the cheapest foodstuffs this is clearly a rip off . Apart from that a very tasty meal we had one beef curry and two crispy chicken in Cantonese sauce and it came to £24 .

The price is very reasonable here, especially in comparison with the Indian in Bala which is twice as expensive. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and would highly recommend for anyone.

First and last visit...hygiene standards are zero...if you don't believe me look at the counter you order the food from and surrounding decoration....food was delivered in approx 5 mins ..my fault for not asking if it was heated up in microwave. ....and sure enough it was heated up...oil on top of curry sauce ..rice clumping together. ...disgusting. .wonder what they would have said if I went back for a refund....hmm. ..they would tell me to take a run and jump...please don't go there business like this shouldn't be allowed to trade...needs a visit from a food hygiene officer

We ordered £40 worth of food and were told it would be ready in 10 minutes, we were there 5 minutes early and the food was already bagged up and ready to go therefore just reheated food !!! After eating the food we have had 3 days of sickness and diarrhoea and still feel really unwell !! I blame myself also for eating the food as the takeaway looked extremely unclean and unhygienic and cannot imagine what the kitchen looks like !!! If you have any regard for your own or your loved ones health I advise you not to eat from this takeaway !!!!!

Having visited here a few times the 'New China' takeaway has survived the test of time.The food is transcendently tasty, in particular the chicken wings in chilli salt. It is a takeaway only restaurant and there are no seats (not even for waiting). The food isn't all that good for your waistline but what cheap/mid-range Chinese is? Yes... some of the food comes out of a tin and yes... some of it comes out of the freezer but I can assure you 99% of Chinese restaurants/takeaways operate this way (with the exclusion of some incredibly expensive celebrity hang - outs).New China is a typically priced Chinese takeaway with better than average food, they haven't disappointed us. They are often the only place to get a late meal besides the Indian down the road so it is convenient for the area also. Delicious food made in numerous styles, an indispensable addition to Bala. Good Job!

Recently moved to Bala from the 2nd city where we have tried many take-away foods for all Asian cuisines. I have to say hand on heart the New china serves one of the very best Chinese meals. If like me you like spice and hot food. the chicken wings is salt are brilliant

The food had gone a bit downhill over the last few months but we ate here over the weekend 8th August and had a great takeaway again. We have been coming here for over a year as we live locally (it's the only Chinese in the area!) and only had a couple of bad meals. The beef chow main is wonderfully, definitely recommend it.

We are locals and occasionally have had take aways from here. Not any more, we think they are hiding the fact that their Chef has done a runner, otherwise they have a new inferior chef? whatever has happened the last twice we have had meals they have been BAD, we complained the first time and to their credit they gave us a complimentary meal ~ but it was as bad as the one we had complained about? Big mistake, we run a local campsite and we will now destroy all of their menu's we place around the site for our customers and certainly not be able to recommend this disastrous Chinese Take Away what a shame as they have the monopoly in Bala!

After being told that they had two sweet and sour chicken dishes we ordered the one that we liked plus other things from the menu, only to discover when we got home we'd been given the wrong chicken dish... We gave it a go anyway as it did look nice but, we were wrong everything we tried had way to much salt for our taste. The positives are that you food comes quickly and there's plenty of it.

We visit here often and the food is always good and large portions.Egg fried rice,chicken curry or sweet and sour chicken are reccommended.The waiting area is freezing cold though,the only negative.

We have been regular customers here and never reviewed before. Food is always excellent and always full! However the waiting times vary and it is worth it for the fresh food served. Well worth a visit.

We stopped here Easter Monday after a day trekking up Snowdon. Service was quick and the young lady who served us was very friendly. The food was hot and delicious, with plenty in the tubs (we have found some places tend to fill dishes out with veg and skimp on the good stuff but not here!). Definitely worth a visit if you want a tasty takeaway.

Found some fatty meat piece in a vegetarian meal, NEVER eating there again.The Sweet and sour Chicken Hong kong's style, is obviously re heated, not done from fresh, very poor quality food.

Had a take-away from New China last week, food was very tasty, good value for money and massive portions. Menu was extensive and the staff were friendly, cheerful and polite. Will definitely come back here as it's probably the closest chinese to where we live in Corwen

this is a nice Chinese just off the Main Street, we were served quickly and did not have to wait long for the food, and the food was lovely, tasty and plenty of it

A 15 minute turn around which you can not grumble with. Good portion sizes and a good standard of food. Only problem was no card machine to pay.

Read the other reviews on this takeaway and was expecting a wait for the food, but didn't get any. Phoned in the order was told it would be ready in 10 minutes and it was there waiting when I got there 10 minutes later. Very nice king prawn balls that put our local Chinese to shame.

Situated just off the main street in Bala,not much to look at but the food was nice and a reasonable cost.

This is a take away. The food is OK, it is nothing to write home about but it is not bad. The portions are massive though. I gave about half of mine to the dog, simply because it was too much!

New china is a terrible place to order food... it took over an hour to recieve our food and when we arrived home 3 things were missing. They are unable to speak english well and rely on a young boy who sits behind the counter... it is terribly cold and seats were unspeakably uncomfortable. It also looks terribly dirty and i dont want to even think about the mess in the kitchen...

Tried this take way while staying in a lodge nearby, big portions and some different dishes. Was so good we went back before going home.

Wasn't impressed. Wouldn't go there again. Food wasn't that good and the wait for it was ridiculous. We were told it would be 15mins and 40mins later we were still waiting. Not good when the seats aren't very comfortable

Roast Duck and Fried Rice was really nice and meaty. Roast Pork Chow mein (in Szechwan Sauce for 30p extra) was tasty but pork a little overdone. But overall - lovely good value takeaway nosh from somewhere that does not look anything special.

We were a group of five staying locally at a B&B and decided to have a "take away" at our B&B for a change rather than eating at local hostelries The New China was I believe under new ownership and we ordered by phone and collected 30 minutes later. Our meal for 5 was massive, extremely tasty and the spring rolls were also very large and tasty. Unfortunately the fantastic meal was much bigger than our appetites and we left a fair amount of food, which rarely happens!A few days later we ordered a further set meal for 4 and this again was brilliant, however, owing to it being smaller and for fewer people we did manage to eat it all, in short we would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment.Whilst collecting our order it became apparent that the New China is a very popular and easy to access establishment in Bala judging by the number of clients collecting orders.

I ordered a set meal for five over the phone and collected within 20 minutes. The food was good and very tasty but the portions were huge, we ended up leaving quite a lot at our B&B. Our next order was smaller than previously and nothing was left this time.We will certainly revisit on our next visit to the Bala area.

We were camping in a local campsite and on the last night decided to push that boat out and get a takeaway, as you do. ;-) The New China Chinese was the closest so that was the main reason for picking them. Ordering was a bit tricky as the lady's English wasn't great, but to her credit, she read back what we'd ordered to check and she got nothing wrong with what we ordered.The food however was excellent. One of the best Chinese takeaway's we've had in years. One of our camping neighbours had a similar plan and in the morning also commented how good their takeaway had been too. Definitely recommended.
