Neon Jamon in Liverpool

Staff are brilliant, and food is top-notch!

I have been to Neon Jamon many times years ago and have always enjoyed my food. Visited on Friday 02nd February 2024 to find Neon closed for a private function. No information on Facebook or Instagram about this. Staff said the full menu was available in the crafty swine, but when the menu arrived it was a very reduced one. Food was awful and most of it left. Mini Burgers, paella and the creamy mushrooms were especially bad! A few dishes were taken off our bill. I have had these dishes before from Neon and knew that the standard was extremely poor. Will not be visiting again.

Writing this having been very ill after the new years meal we paid £200 for. It was a Berringtons x Neon meal and we were a little surprised that we got there for 8pm and didn't receive dessert until 1am. Had I known the meal would be taking so long we wouldn't have booked. I don't tend to eat so much, so late. Nevertheless we enjoyed the atmosphere and the waiters were very attentive and nice. The menu said there would be fireworks but there were none. We got party poppers instead... we just put it down to experience on the night and it was pleasant enough but I have been so ill after the meal, bed bound and vomiting. The main meal was a concern for me. The prawns released a pool of brown liquid on my plate and it seemed like the digestive tract hadn't been removed. I'm not squeamish about seafood, in fact I love it, so this was a worry because I'd never seen anything like it. We were also served chateaubriand which was served rare. Neither of us were given a choice and given it was so late we received the meal we just had a little of it but the meat had a funny smell and obviously wasn't cooked. I've been ill in bed since so not the best start to the new year. Lovely staff and atmosphere just a shame about the food, I'm afraid I've been put off and won't be returning to Neon. The price we paid and the lack of choice and fireworks was a let down. The dessert was slopped on the plate and it just seemed the chefs had given up by this point in the evening.

Delicious food and super friendly service; particular shoutouts to the ribs, manchego butter beans and the orange sponge (possibly one of THE best desserts I've ever eaten!) Can't wait to go back!

Lovely place in the heart of Smithdown road, food great, atmosphere superb...staff lovely! Try the sausage rolls.. Omg the best!

Brilliant local tapas restaurant. Managed to get last table at 7.30 on a rainy Friday night so it is probably worth booking. Good range of choices all very well cooked and fresh. Goats cheese balls in honey are superb, better than Seville. Good range of wine at reasonable prices. We will be back.

Friday night 6pm and we were the only ones there. Really disappointed with the food. Much better quality when the restaurant was on penny lane. Ribs were tasteless, pork belly wasn't nice it had a strong taste of cumin. Service was good but unfortunately not the food. Wont be returning

Had a wonderful time at Neon Jamon tonight. Drinks, service and atmosphere was amazing and food was so delicious. We will definitely be back very soon. Thanks for a wonderful evening guys x

Went to a friend's 40th Birthday party. Venue, atmosphere, food and staff were amazing.

Staff very pleasant. It was a private party, could if done with more seating.

The Padron Peppers were possibly the best I've ever eaten. The Patatas Bravas were also very nice. The rest was ok, but those two were my favourites. Staff could definitely be more attentive and spot when you're low on drinks and offer a top up. The music in the outdoor place is too loud if you want to have a conversation. As others have said, the place seems to have merged with the business next door, but all in all we had an enjoyable evening.

Such a shame how down hill this place has gone as it used to be our “go to” for spanish cuisine. Poor quality and tasteless food - the prawns were rubbery! Seems a lot of people feel the same way as it was the emptiest I’ve ever seen it. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

Lovely food but can't understand why not doing straw fries with eggs they have changed to skinny fries???not as nice. £6!!!!!!! For a bottle of sparkling water did they collect it from a spring themselves!!

BRING BACK CHIPIRONES! We come here very often. I cannot believe they have removed the baby squid and replaced it with some over-fried Fritto Misto that was like supermarket onion rings. Please bring back the CHIPIRONES and the beef shin!

I have eaten at Neon Jamon many times before and have loved the food in the past but I can honestly say that last nights meal (for my son's 18th birthday which should have been a momentous occasion) was my most disappointing visit to date. I should add that the main restaurant was closed and we were signposted to eat in the Crafty Swine next door. Food was salty, fatty and portion size felt mean as well as being quite expensive ( I understand tapas are small plates) but this was despite ordering a varied selection across meat and vegetarian choices. I suspect that sadly this will be my last visit here. Definitely not authentic tapas. Sad really.

Been here a few times would recommend it very nice

Had a brilliant meal here. Food was so good we over ordered, could not say no to anything. Beef Cheek and Prawns Pil Pil, were stand-out dishes. Obviously, the first week after the New Year, venue was quite, but still a great experience. Staff were attentive and helpful. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Cozy place, which serves delicious food. Fantastic service and great atmosphere. Food was so tasty and full of flavour, that we wanted to try all the tapas availabe. Every bite was amazing. Unfortunately, there were no space left to try desserts. Great place to visit with group of friends.

Not impressed at all I used to come here quite often as my partner worked here it's a shadow of what it was unfortunately over priced bland not a reflection of what it used to be at all we got the patatas bravas it was square chips with pizza sauce on with a blob of mayo on the side. Only plus the staff are great

Would not recommend at all. Not happy with the food. mentioned the "chicken" as not being very nice. Not even an eye bat at this comment. Not convinced it was chicken. Was grey in colour and didn't look or taste right. Not impressed.

Just visited this restaurant on Smithdown road Liverpool, an I just wanted to say from the food, to the atmosphere to the staff everything was top quality, I don’t normally do reviews however I felt it was essential I did a review because it was absolutely amazing, the staff are friendly, quick and helpful. The food is just unbelievable, I won’t even describe how good it was, just go yourself and find out. And overall the decor an music it’s just a lovely nice vibe, specifically the squid was exceptional, anyway I just wanted to say thank you, I will be back very soon. King regards Kris

Gorgeous Spanish tapas with a nice bit of flair.

Amazing fresh produce, best service on Allerton road by miles! Better than Old Neon. Would recomend to anyone who loves authentic Spanish tapas

Loved so much . Every dish was bomb of flavours can't wait to go back. ( Small dishes and not the cheapest if you're looking to get big meal for £20 that's not your place )

Sadly all that remains of one of our once favourite restaurant is the name. I can only echo the views of others who have posted recent reviews. The service cannot be faulted, however the food now resembles something you would expect from a chain restaurant such as La tasca. It is as if whatever happened to the food at the Tavern opposite has now spread across to this side of the road too. We won't be returning - too many good restaurants in the area :(

We used to be huge fans of Neon Jamon, both the one in Allerton and the one in town so we were really excited that to see it had re-opened, our excitement was short lived unfortunately. We went last Friday and after a 2 hour wait for a table as they don't take bookings (even though we were a party of 6) the food was not great at all - everything was either really bland or oversalted. It was quite an expensive evening too. Will definitely not be going back

I never ever normally leave bad reviews it’s not my style but had no choice because what a rip off, used to go to the one on church road and the food was top quality and the portions were boss. Went to this new one hoping for good things and was very disappointed. The service was top quality and the staff were very helpful and attentive but the food was horrific. Tiny portions and tasteless food. Took my parents here as it was my recommendation and it made me look bad. Portions were terrible. I know the price of produce etc are going up nowadays but Jesus Christ this was a pisstake on a new level. Spent nearly £100 on tapas of my hard earned money and I feel like I’ve had the piss taken out of me. Tell the chefs to actually put some seasoning on the food (it might help) . Wont be going back and don’t recommend. Shame cos the staff are boss that’s what the star is for.

Yay! It’s back!! Neon jamon is an absolute classic. Delicious food, great drinks, fab service, it only looses a star because it can be quite pricey, but it’s well worth it.

I eat out a lot and love to try new food. So was really excited to try the food at Neon Jamon as it’s been raved about. But I have to say I was disappointed. Place was quiet, only about 6 tables full inc one with a party of 6 so kitchen would not have been busy. The prawns were not cleaned properly so I had to pick the tract out and were quite slimy, 7.5 for some broccoli and bean paste was extortion. To then add a 6.50 service charge on without explanation was not great so left me with a bit of a bitter taste and I won’t be going back which is such a shame as was really looking forward to a nice tapas place. The staff however are fantastic 👍

What a place! We celebrated a friends birthday and we had such a fabulous time. Firstly, the staff couldn’t have been more attentive and lovely. Service was incredible. The food was delicious. Everything that came out of the kitchen was just beautiful. 5 stars does not seem enough. What a place!

Cuando cerró el Smithdown, estábamos destrozados, pero emocionados de probar Berringtons sabiendo que siempre podríamos ir a la ciudad para las mejores tapas en Liverpool cuando quisiéramos.Descubrir ahora que Neon Jamon Berry Street también cerró definitivamente es bastante decepcionante, especialmente porque no se anunció como Smithdown.Si lees todas las críticas, verás que posiblemente sea la mejor tapa de Liverpool, si no del Reino Unido. Hemos probado otros lugares que son buenos pero que nunca coinciden con Neon Jamon.Decepcionado.

Relaxed dining of tapas style. Excellent food with a extensive menu split into easy sections. Good range of specials, never had a poor fish, Liverpool well represented in tapas and this holds its end up well.

Delicious tapas. But it's closed down now so you'll never know. Unless you go to their restaurant in town of course

Trendy tapas restaurant in a hip area, aka Liverpool’s club scene and student haunts. Staff are super friendly and the menu has many dishes to rival what Spain or Catalonia could offer. Nostalgic music playlist, too. Worth a return visit. And good value.

Éramos los únicos clientes, llegando a las 4. 00 pm.Como de costumbre, el personal era muy amable y servicial, y los 4 platos que pedimos (2 por persona en la oferta de la tarde para 12) estaban cocinados a la perfección y absolutamente deliciosos.Teníamos el chorizo y la morcilla, croquetas de bacalao salado, queso de cabra frito y la tostada de champiñones. Todos y cada uno de los platos eran excelentes y porciones muy generosas. Tan grande, de hecho, que no pudimos terminarlos por completo.Lamentablemente, cuando llegamos a casa vimos en el Liverpool Echo la noticia de que a finales de febrero el restaurante cerrará. Es una pena, ya que realmente sirve tapas fantásticas.Mi consejo es: llegar antes de finales de febrero si eres un amante de las tapas.Parece que en el futuro el restaurante volverá a abrir como una nueva preocupación llamada "Berringtons" y todo lo que puedo decir es. . . . . . . . . Very authentic food which was delicious and big portions so maybe only two dishes to start with, pleasant and helpful staff, my family and I would certainly recommend this restaurant and will definitely dine out here again.

El sábado por la noche hacía mucho frío y buscábamos algo sabroso para calentarnos, habíamos estado aquí antes y nos impresionó, así que cuando estábamos en ese extremo del centro de la ciudad reservamos una mesa, llegamos un poco temprano pero nos sentamos de inmediato , siendo un sábado, el restaurante estaba muy ocupado. Nuestro pedido de bebidas se tomó inmediatamente (rojo de la casa) para que pudiéramos sentarnos y examinar el menú con un vino tinto para calentarnos, mi compañero y yo elegimos 5 tapas para compartir entre nosotros, langostinos en chile y ajo, albóndigas, patatas bravas , brochetas de pollo y bacalao con costra de ajo y chile, TODOS estaban deliciosos. Muy sabrosa y fresca comida, excelente servicio, definitivamente volveré a visitar

Did not end up going as when I checked out the place luckily before hand. Totally inaccessible step to get in and a narrow porch. Impossible for my son’s large power chair to get in. No disabled toilet and ordinary toilets upstairs. Really in this day and age with disability discrimination legislation in place.

My sis had her final GCSE exam on Friday and we had had an awful week for us as a family. My kids favourite food is sushi and as a treat I managed to get a table for Saturday night. A friend had said it had a great reputation and it certainly lived up to that.Lovely staff that were helpful explaining the menu and the food was excellent.

Cosy laid back feel with great staff and fabulous menu. Four of us picked 3 plates each so we could try as much as possible - obligatory patas braves and albondigas along with Gambas (perfectly cooked with garlic & hint of chilli), sliders and a few other bits but star of the show for me was the ribs - sticky falling off the bone with a gentle heat running through. Would go back just for a plate of those!

Great place to visit if you like tapas. Food is absolutely delicious. Staff are friendly and very knowledgeable on the dishes they serve, which is great when visiting here with people who have gluten or dairy intolerances. Simply asking the staff to advise which dishes we can have always results in confident and accurate advice which is brilliant.

Ok, I’ll be honest and say that can take or leave tapas. Sometime I love it, others I feel somewhat let down after.This was definitely the latter.Here we all had the recommended minimum 3 dishes (or more) and afterwards all we talked about was when we were going to have for supper. I’m not being funny but £6 for 3 slices of dried up manchego and a teaspoon of tasteless marmalade whilst I looked across at the derelict building over the road was an insult.Whilst we were told dishes come at different times it sounded like an excuse for only having one chef. My wife and I had eaten 3 dishes each (cutting some cheese and taking the clingfilm off some dried up cut meat I suppose is quick to prepare) and our friends’ food arrived 30 minutes after ordering.Everything had the same garlic aftertaste, the cold cuts looked like they’d been lying around for hours but as I said £75 for what was a few snacks and a couple of drinks each IS AN UTTER RIP OFF!

Was never massively fussed on the Smithdown Road Neon Jamon, but the food in this place last night was spot on. Meatballs large and juicy with plenty of sauce, sweet ribs fell off the bone, patatas braves sauce had a nice kick, basically everything we ordered was delicious topped off with possibly the nicest cheesecake ever. Defo going back!

First time here, I came on a Friday night with friends. The waiter was so welcoming and friendly, the pink Prosecco was recommended and it was lovely. The portions are quite big - we had 2 each and that left room (just) for desert. The mushroom toast was delicious, as was the goats cheese. The chips sticks and eggs were a nice novelty but not really very filling and the egg would be better if more runny. The place got busy as the night went on so I advise booking in advance. To top it off lovely cocktails and at £8 each very reasonable. I will be back.

Un locale minuto, arredato in modo semplice ma con gusto, il Neon Jamon è praticamente a fianco del celeberrimo Barber's Shop di Penny Lane. Cucina iberica di ottima qualità. Molto buono anche il servizio.

Loved our early visit to this restaurant before a concert. Arrived without a booking to an empty restaurant and the manager was really nice and cheerful. It was very early 5-00pm so that was the reason the place was empty. Food was really top notch along with the drinks.Two tapas for £12 these were more like raciones so well worth the price. There is a disabled toilet on the ground level. By the time we left the place was filling up nicely. Highly recommend.

I rarely give 5 stars, but this place has atmosphere great service and most importantly great food. The tapas were a cut above. Everything tasted rich and the ox cheek and ribs were excellent. The pressed potato dish was like potato fondant and was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Muy Bien!

Food was good. Service was way too quick. Ordered bread an 5 portions. Food came way too quick. Ordered 2 cheese cakes to finish. Food was nice. Only managed to have 1 drink each. In an out in under 40 minutes.

Went with 2 friends on Tuesday night. Had 2 tapas - glorified chip sticks and eggs and goats cheese balls aswell as chocolate mousse dessert plus 2 non alcohol drinks and cost £26. Still hungry and didnt like coffee -too strong and bitter. Wont be going again of an evening

Food is always good here, went with a small group of friends always have eyes bigger than our bellies, service was good also.

Been coming here for years and over the years it's always been spot on, but the last 3 times have been a let down, and last night was exactly that. The sangria was like watered down Ribena, the chorizo was so burnt it was nearly black and tasted like pieces of really dry old rubber, bravas tasted like they where made from cheap potatoes and when you bit into them you didn't know if you where gonna get a soft one or a brick. The ribs where ok but they where very fatty and not the usual quality you would expect. I don't know what's happened but it's like it's become a cheap imitation of itself. Cheaper ingredients being used maybe. Service was spot on as usual, and they gave us a free bevvy and knocked the sangria and chorizo off the bill, but i don't think I'll be returning because the quality of the food has gone way down. Which is a proper shame because it used to be one of the best restaurants going.

Wow, a hidden gem in Liverpool. Great menu with lots of choice. Super quick and extremely tasty food backed up with efficient and friendly service. Great pricing as well. Loved the music too! I would definitely recommend this place if you are in town. I loved it!

Went early doors 5:30 mid-week - quite a few people in , friendly welcome, good choice of dishes, meat, cheese, vegetables etc. Decent wine and not too pricey. Would definitely go again. Suspect might have to book for the weekend slots.

trip advisor told me I had reviewed Neon before, which is entirely correct. I also noted it had slipped to 35th best restaurant in Liverpool. This has to be down to most people, (like me), having reviwed before, and newer kids on the block taking first time reviews.

Brought new friends to this lovely eatery and they were impressed! The food was amazing, as always. The staff, especially Olga our waitress were absolutely lovely, efficient and made the whole experience really wonderful. By far my favourite restaurant in Liverpool

We’ve been coming to Neon Jamon for years - and never been disappointed. Yesterday we had a family meal for my wife’s 40th birthday - and there was nothing to fault.

My favourite restaurant in Liverpool. Always great tasting food in a relaxed environment. Having worked out in Spain I know what good tapas bars should be like- and this is one of them.

We ate here when visiting liverpool as we had eaten here 4 years previously on a trip and loved it. We were not disappointed. The food was great, sevice quick and friendly. Also reasonably priced. Will definetly return.

I've loved neon jamon since it openes but recently it's noticeably let things slip. Portion sizes are abysmal and the food has lost its zing

Los platos tienen un tamaño razonable y nuestro grupo tenía un par cada uno más patatas bravas para compartir. Esto fue suficiente para llenarte. Los precios son razonables. La cocina en la parte de atrás añadió a la atmósfera y el personal fue muy amable. Probablemente soy solo yo, pero pensé que las tablas de madera en la pared parecían estar medio decoradas y le daban un poco de frío. En general, fue una experiencia agradable y hay mucho en el menú que no probé esta vez, pero espero con ansias la próxima.

Great little tapas bar. Booking advised but necessarily essential. Narrow and attractive. Over two floors. Fabulous service always. Not my first visit and tbh, the food was a little disappointing tonight. Patas bravas was tough being over cooked and the sauce was a bit thin. This was made up by an excellent deep fried cheese in a lemon honey sauce.. We ate quite early so perhaps things hadn't quite got settled in the kitchen. Not cheap but well worth another look in. Road parking.

Just got back from a 4 day visit to Liverpool and on this trip I used the neon jamon on 3 separate occasions ,the food is delicious and so is the beer. This place is a real gem and is often full in evenings so you may have to book in advance. A excellent place for food well done chef.
