Nawabi Voj in Aberdeenshire

I was treated like royalty here. I like Indian food and usually choose Dahl as it is a simple dish. The food here was delicious and the service gracious and thoughtful. Highly recommended

Our evening at this restaurant was underwhelming and very disappointing. It’s hard to match our experience with the dozens of glowing reviews shared here and on Google. Despite it being the Folk festival weekend and thus one of the busiest weekends of the year in Stonehaven, the restaurant was still empty on a Saturday night. Between that, the filthy entrance hall, and the crumpled sticky menus we should have turned around and left, but against our better judgement we stayed. The service was agonisingly slow despite us being literally the only people in the restaurant. The beer was bottled and warm. When my king prawn starter arrived, it was simply two (2!) fried prawns with a few salad leaves. My husband’s lamb was so dry as to be inedible. After a further 30 minute wait our mains arrived and the curry sauces were watery and lacking substance. My prawn curry had only six prawns in a sea of sauce, and accompanying rice was a pitiful portion size. The service, whilst led by a very friendly lady, left a lot to be desired overall. The meals were brought out by a teenager in a tracksuit, and an older lady drifted around picking up plates and resetting tables for no apparent reason. When we were trying to pay we asked her for the bill, but she claimed she had to go and find someone else who could do this for us. I don’t like leaving negative reviews for small businesses, but there is a lot to be improved here if this restaurant is going to survive.

I recently ordered a takeaway meal and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Upon arrival, the entrance was not welcoming, and the stair carpet was filthy. This should have been a red flag, but I decided to give the food a chance. The curries we ordered were extremely disappointing. The sauces were watered down, with a few pieces of chicken floating in them. There were no onions, garlic, or any of the rich flavors you’d expect from a good curry. It felt like a waste of money as the food was barely edible, and we couldn’t eat much of it. On a positive note, the owners were pleasant, but the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the establishment made it clear that we won’t be returning.

Fabulous food. Best pakoras I have ever eaten, My curry was spot on - heat-wise and plenty of chicken. Attentive and polite service. Really enjoyed our visit. Could perhaps make the entrance a bit more inviting but certainly wouldn’t put us off visiting again.

Three of us enjoyed a lovely meal this week at Nawabi Voj. I had heard good things about this place and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by a very friendly lady and shown to our table. Delicious poppadoms to start were followed by the welcoming gesture of complimentary vegetable pakoras which were really delicious. Our curries followed accompanied by a variety of flavoured rice dishes and peshwari naan bread. These were all extremely tasty and thoroughly enjoyed by our group. Really worth a visit and well priced for excellent food. All the staff there were very nice and so helpful. Highly recommend.

Went last night with my husband, we pre booked for 6.45, we had Poppadoms to start with, then a chicken biryani & a lamb jalfrezi, rice and nan, we both had a good size portion and very tasty, service with a nice smile, perfection.

Dinned with friends here few weeks ago, thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Starters very good. Mains took a little bit of time to arrive but thoroughly enjoyable. Will certainly return. Staff were very polite.

Hearing mixed reviews about this Restaurant so we decided to give it a try, on arrival we received a warm welcome from a lovely woman, we were seated and and ordered some drinks, the woman then came over and we placed our orders, Popadoms with dips, starters then mains with rice and a selection of Nans, the Restaurant was about quarter full, we waited about 20 minutes before the starter's arrived, no complaints with the starters then about 10 minutes later the mains arrived, good size portions and very tasty, the Nans were a good size. The only criticism we had, I would say the Restaurant could have been a bit warmer, the price was on par with the other Restaurant a few door's along where we normally dine. We all agreed it was a very good meal and we will be back.

I visited Stonehaven first time and was in search of halal food place was not expecting such good place with amazing taste and great ambiance.

I don't recommend this place. Service was chaotic, the servers were nice but one didn't know anything about the menu or even cuisine. Parts of our order got taken then rechecked by other servers, and the wrong food brought regardless. Once it arrived, the food was insipid; worse than a supermarket takeaway curry, including the naan. Gave this place a try based in part on the glowing reviews. On closer inspection, I question how many of these are real, especially when this is the only place ever reviewed by the alleged reviewer.

Booked a table for last Saturday night just as well we did, the restaurant was very busy, we both ordered Popadoms, one Chicken and one Lamb Jalfrezi, Pilau rice and a Garlic Nan Bread, the meal did take a bit longer to come due how busy they were but when the meal came to the table it was well worth the wait, portions size was good and hot.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Stonehaven. The food is authentic and the service is very friendly. The decor is nicely done and would definitely visit again. My wife loved the chicken tikka masala and I enjoyed the daal tadka with Bombay aloo. Would recommend to anyone visiting or passing by stonehaven

It is hard to reconcile the Tripadvisor ratings with the restaurant as it is. Smell of damp in the stairway and run down /tired. Strange layout with clutter. Disintegrating menus with pen amendments and printed additional pages. It took a long time to get staff to take an order. The wrong meal served (meat rather than vegetarian despite the correct order having been written). A few other issues also. On the positive side, the staff were all pleasant and did look genuinely shocked by some of the failings, though didn’t seem to be able to effectively deal with them. The FOH woman seemed to be doing her best in difficult circumstances. The food was terrible. Another customer looked resigned and explained it was new management. Overall, it was hard to recognise the place described in previous reviews - this was terrible.

The food l would say was average, not terrible, not delicious. The staff were very friendly and accommodating though. The biggest downside was it was freezing. It smelt damp and was so cold l kept my coat and hat on which probably effected my experience. I do think heating is essential in Scotland.

This is a gem! Top quality and generous meals, with lovely service from a charming and hard-working family. The menu range is excellent and the prices are very attractive compared to many restaurants in this region. We look forward to returning very soon.

Ordered a takeaway last night for two, for starters we had Chicken Pakora and Onion Bhaji, and for mains, a Lamb Jalfrezi and a chicken Bhuna, portion size was very generous, good to see the restaurant busy when i went to collect it.

Kebab Platter left me truly impressed and satisfied. The restaurant's interior design was tastefully done – a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and a cozy atmosphere. Also friendly service.

We had a wonderful experience in Nawabi Voj last night, The Restaurant was very busy when we arrived, we got a warm welcome from the owner, we were served some excellent dishes, everything was delicious and a good atmosphere.

This well established curry house is under new management. There are a few things to iron out - but the food was good, dishes familiar and new and the food and drink prices were very good. Give it a try.

Not only delicious food, but the lady who took our order and served us was so helpful, welcoming and friendly. We will definitely return during our 5 day stay here. Good vale, good food, delightful people, large menu with many vegetarian and gluten free options....

Ordered a takeaway meal tonight, one Chicken Bhna and a Lamb Dopiaza, rice and a Nan Bread, excellent meal, good size portion, bonus was the 20% discount.

It would be easy to miss the Nawabi Voj, but a mistake to do so. The interior could, perhaps, do with a little refreshment, but the food, which is what you come for, is excellent. The owners are charming and the prices remarkably good value.

We had an absolutely wonderful meal here while visiting town. A simple door leads upstairs where you are warmly invited in. All our dishes were thoroughly enjoyed and the hospitality was spot on.

Still great!!!! Was in when it first opened, was very impressed then - still impressed now. Lovely food, lovely staff. Can’t praise it enough. Don’t miss it out.

I was meeting two work colleagues on Thursday evening for a curry, they selected this Restaurant, we met up, on offer was the Thursday Banquet, the food was excellent and good vaue and at only £16.95 also the service was first class.

Very good restaurant with great ambience. Rellty excellent food and service. We had a really nice time.
