Nautilus Fish in Camden

Consistently and for years, one of the best London Fish & Chip shops... so fresh, so clean and 'if' you've not had matzo bake rather than traditional batter, try it, or choose the grilled fish, it's all good, fantastic chips, good drink selection. They capture all of the freshness, from 'sea to table', moist and tastey without the fattyness. Lovely owners / team there. I'm an ex Toff's / Nautilus fan, but Nautilus is now closer to home and certainly one of the best in London - people travel far for this level of quality! Dine in if budget permits, if not grab a takeaway, freshly cooked, and so hot - highly recommended! Go.

Location is right opposite Fortune Green Park with a large playground area. We got takeaway for lunch - the friendly staff made me feel so welcome and invited me to sit in the warm restaurant whilst I waited for my fish as I had ordered a Plaice, which was freshly made and Cod with a portion of chips. The food was excellent especially the plaice which was so fresh & absolutely delicious and I like the way they cooked the chips. I also witness the staff serving an elderly gentlemen at the restaurant and the kindness shown was super heart warming. Thank you, we will be back more often.

Enjoyed a fantastic Fish'n'Chips dinner here - we ordered the grilled Lemon Sole with chips and mushy peas followed by the selection of ice creams for dessert alongside a carafe of their house white wine and it was all absolutely delicious (especially the complimentary plate of pickles!) At £79 (including service) you can't say fairer than that can you? Superb value for money. Special thanks to our lovely waitress Diana who was so friendly and attentive. Delicious, freshly-cooked food with generous portion sizes, great service and nice surroundings - definite winner. Highly recommended

Regular user of this gaff...top fish and chips. Worried about the guy behind the counter as he is always stressed out hopefully he is on medication... Great place for a sit down meal. The seashell is BANG average compared to this place.

Everyone claims that their local fish and chips is the best, but I’ve lived in many parts of London including places where the local ‘chippy’ got a rave review in Time Out and I can tell you that Nautilus is genuinely THE BEST!!! The fish is fresh as fresh can be, the chips are the perfect balance of crisp and fluffy, the owner is the loveliest guy, always gives us a wave even if we’re not popping in *that* day, the staff are wonderful and it’s always clean and homely. Everything you want from a great local restaurant and a cut above the rest. 5 stars doesn’t come close!

Cod & Chips taste extremely bland. Chips very soggy.

Revisited Nautilus as it’s very convenient to our home but sadly remains nothing to write home about. The staff there are great, which makes me want to spend my money there but it’s so greasy with a proper whiffing fish smell. I’ve rated it 3 stars, as it has improved somewhat from my previous rating of 2 stars but it remains not what it once was years ago. I hold out hope they can pull their act together and improve.

I recently dined at this amazing place, and it exceeded all my expectations. The fish dishes were not only incredibly tasty but also fresh and expertly prepared. Sorry it’s a no for me, the service is good but unfortunately the chips and saveloy was disappointing, the saveloy was very stiff and not enjoyable to eat, it seemed like it had been sitting in the open air for hours, the chips weren’t great either - and I love chips and saveloy.

I used to go as a child with my little brother. We went every so often, but we were never notable customers. At that age we never had proper conversations with the boss. Even so, the boss was kind to us and always used to give us a free extra bag of chips “for the journey”, which was sweet. We always used to think he looked like Jose Mourinho, though never told him to his face. Today, after having moved out of London, I returned to the shop for the first time in 10+ years. It was the same boss who greeted me and took my order. It made me happy to see he was still at the shop. As I was walking out, he asked “so are you still around here? You used to come here when you were a kid”. I told him I had moved away from London but was visiting for the weekend. I couldn’t believe he recognised me! I confirm at 25 years old, I look very different now to when I was 12!! How many thousands of faces have been through the shop over the years?! He told me it was my cheekbones that have stayed the same since I was a kid. It was a very wholesome interaction! In a world of change, it’s nice places like Nautilus are still around to remind you of the good old days. I hope to see him again next time I visit.

I ordered takeaway Chips only via app, just to try, if any good. Was pleasantly surprised, how good, fresh, perfect they were. Next time will order Fish n Chips definitely. I’m changing from my local chippie to this one.

We've been going to Nautilus for over 30 years. They've never let us down and always say hello. Haddock and a generous portion of chips is our 'go to' choice here. A proper, friendly, chippy that's consistently worth a visit.

Ordered on Uber eats. Unfortunately the food was cold and the chips were undercooked. Would give it another try in person at some point to see if it's any better as the reviews seem good.

Well, where to start?... Full disclosure I've always been a bit of a fish and chips sceptic. Far too often 'tradition' allows people to serve up tasteless and anaemic chips which is accepted because the dish has become a ubiquitous part of life for so many. Having seen this institution recommended by people and even make lists of top fish and chip places in London, I needed to check this place out, hoping to find the rare jewel in the chippie industrial crown. Don't worry yourself though, it's all lies and happy feedback from people who'd be happy if you put anything in front of them. The food was POOR! Firstly, I asked for the chips to be cooked longer for me as I had already spied the chips they had standing there 'fresh' and they looked undoubtedly unimpressive. I also got some fried Skate as I wanted to try their matzo meal breading which supposedly makes them different. All seemed fine until I got the food home... Chips were awful. Definitely not fried for longer fact they barely looked blanched and the gentle wrapping had turned them into much. There was not an ounce of crispiness or texture to them at all. Basically just sticks of mash, which wouldn't be so bad if the potatoes were tasty but they're probably just Tesco value - no flavour whatsoever. I was angry because the reason I stated to fry them extra was that I wouldn't have bought this disgrace for food if it was going to be a problem. This just isn't good food. Severely disappointed but not too surprised as chippies tend to neglect the chips (stupidly) for the fish. So I was more excited about the prospect of trying the main part of the dish. Coating was crispy and the fish was rather large. That's where the compliments end. Batter? Plain, tasteless, bland. Fish? The same. Mate, I've gotten lemon sole fillets from Co-op that are better tasting than this. That should not be the case! Ever! If anyone recommends this place to you they are lying. It's awful. I didn't finish most of it, as it's just chewing for the sake of chewing. There's no joy. If you want something to fill you up and don't care how it tastes. Then this is your place. For anyone that actually cares about flavour. Go elsewhere. Added an extra star because the service was bright.

Went in for a quick family dinner (dine in) on Saturday night and it was busy but lovely atmosphere. Really really good fish, fresh and perfectly cooked. Batter crispy and light. Chips ideal. Service impeccable. If you like traditional fish and chips visit this place.

This is the best fish and chip shop and restaurant. The fish is lovely and fresh and well cooked. I used to live locally but now travel from South Bucks to eat here. Would highly recommend. Staff are very polite and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Frais à ne pas manquer perso super gentil

We’ve visited this fish & chip shop sporadically for over a decade, given the traditional look and staff are friendly. But the quality of the food is too variable. This has never been a shop where you get the fluffy ‘beer battered’ style, but the benefit of that is that the serving has always seemed healthier. For that reason, we’ve overlooked that the staff cook the fish with the skin on. However, recently the fish has been quite dry and overall we were disapointed. This shop is starting to smell a bit fishy on the outside too which makes me question the freshness of their products . Still a bit disappointed they stopped doing the curry sauce and picked eggs a while back now (which are sometimes nice for a change). I’d recommend they enter a competition by the National Federation of Fish Friers to get their fish and chip frying mojo back. In the interim, we’ll be on a tour of other chippies.

It’s really hard to find a perfect fish & chips, but this is absolutely one of those. Big portions, incredibly tasty food and very nice atmosphere and service! Thank you, looking forward to coming back soon!

This place is a decent fish & chip shop run by family members, the food was great and the portion sizes decent. The sit down menu is a little limited, as there are no extras on the other than the different types of fish, if you want something extra like a pie or sausages you will have to ask. Service was good but it was a bit quiet when we turned up on a Saturday, maybe because it was Valentines weekend. There is no parking directly outside but the side streets are free to park from Midday onwards.

Called in around 6.30pm one Tuesday evening for a take away. Got served a generous portion of chips and one cod roe for just £4. It was ok for the money. A nice young lad served me. He asked if I wanted salt and vinegar on the chips and I, of course, said yes please. But there wasn't enough of either sadly. So I'd suggest putting your own on Looks a nice place to sit down and eat. I hope to try in the future and sample the fish

Pricier than most but easily one of the best in North London. Fresh, perfectly fried fish and excellent chips and sides. Go for a sit down and you get unlimited chips with your meal too. Can't say fairer than that.

Been going here for over 35 years, I’ve never had a bad meal here, the staff are so friendly, and even give the kids a little kid size cone of chips to eat for free while they wait. I highly recommend this place and their cod is beautiful too.

Very nice sausage in batter and chips. Batter very nice and nice juicy chips. All to take away and eat close by in the park. Very nice to have in West Hampstead.

I live nearby and thought I'd give it a try, especially after some reasonable reviews on tripadvisor and google. But it was a mistake. £11 for a medium cod and regular chips. The cod was small and soggy barely enough for one person. The chips had no taste. Cod in batter is supposed to taste fresh and crispy. Will not be going again.

Hugely disappointed. I phoned to see if they make a delivery they said no I had to pick it up. When I drove over and placed the order, they said I could only pay by card if the order was over £10. I ordered my fish chips and mushy peas, because that only came to £7 something the guy said I had to take two cans out of the fridge to bring it to £10. When I got home the fish was lukewarm if not dry and the chips warm , some cold. This is the second time this has happened to me from this chip shop. Such a shame. I felt I had to share.

Unpretentious, quaint, but charming is how I'd describe the experience of dining in Nautilus. The fish can't be faulted, it is as good as other reviews suggest, the chips are hand cut, and the Cypriot beer accompanying my meal was highly drinkable. What I'll remember most, however, was the sense of community the place gives off - of the 11 customers, myself included, who were in the restaurant on the Friday evening I visited, 8 of them appeared to be obvious regulars who greeted the proprietress by her first name. It's always good to see that in a restaurant and perhaps one day I will also join their (non-exclusive) club.

Best chip shop in London - they make their own chips everyday using fresh potatoes - hardly any chip shops do this anymore and they fry their chips separately from the fish making them vegan friendly. The owners run the shop and are extremely friendly and are always accommodating.
