My Cottage Cafe in Islington

Excellent variety of food on the menu. Within our party the food was well received. I chose the king prawns which were grilled well and succulent and a good size. Portions were generous too. Wonderfully warm hospitality from front of house too. Thank you!

We had been shocked to hear that the nearby Pasta Restaurant had closed and were seeking a replacement dining spot for our Theatre Visits to the Park Theatre. We normally like Lebanese food so booked in to My Cottage Restaurant. We arrived a few minutes early as the traffic had been better than expected. We were greeted, although it was a little off-hand, and given a table. It was a narrow and deep restaurant and was slightly tired in terms of its furniture and fittings. The Table was a little sticky and cutlery had water stains as did some of the Crockery. We selected a couple of apple juices with mint and a bottle of sparkling water which turned out to be a 330ml bottle of Perrier Water. We ordered Potato Harra and Makdous as starters to be followed by Qormeh Sabzi and Lahm Mashwi. We were somewhat taken aback to receive our main courses on the table followed a short while later by the "Starters". I enjoyed my Potato Harra which had good flavours but my Qormeh Sabzi was disappointing despite the nicely cooked and presented Vermicelli Rice. The Aubergine and Lamb were also lacking in wow factor and were both rather bland and under-seasoned. Similarly my Qormeh Sabzi was lacking in the taste I was expecting and was also under-seasoned. We finished with 2 x portions of baklawa which were tasty and well baked and each consisted of 4 x pieces. We asked for the Bill and were told, at that stage, that their card machine was not working. I don't carry cash nowadays but, fortunately, my wife had £85 in her purse so we wee able to pay and leave. It is likely that we will not be using the Restaurant again. We got the impression that we were "a bit of a bother" and the Restaurant was quite quirky and tired. The Welcome was not effusive but it was not really warm either . The food service was average at best although some elements were better than others. Customer Service was not to my liking and being told that the means to pay were limited at the end of the Meal was a bit rude. It was not cheap at £85 and it was not as good as other Lebanese Restaurants in London.

The perfect place to eat if you are going to see something at The Park Theatre which is literally next door. The staff are lovely, and the menu has a great selection of very tasty food. We will be back here next time we are going to the theatre.

My son has just moved to the area so we were keen to try out some of his local eateries and came here early evening on a Saturday. Although it was quiet when we arrived it was much busier when we left. The decor and organisation of the restaurant was certainly quirky and the red brick walls gave it character. Service was swift but we were a bit disappointed to be served our starters after receiving our main courses. A very strange arrangement! My lamb chops were very good and other members of my party enjoyed their food. Most dishes had flavour although anything with chicken was a little bit on the dry side. Prices were very reasonable for London so this is a place I'd recommend.

I wanted a snack on my way home from work. Fancied traditional hummus with bread which was in the menu. I said just me to the waitress she laughed about it seemed sad which got a laugh but that’s where it stops being funny. I say ‘I just want some hummus do you serve it with bread?’ She says ‘you want me to seat you for just hummus’ I feel like I’m being told off, as I head for the door having been put in my place, ‘you don’t want it to take away?’ I say no I can order that from home and leave. Obviously never going back. Zero grade hospitality. There were lots of places she could have seated me I’d have been 15 minutes.

The first time I went the food and service was great.... the second time I went one side of the fish was raw. I alerted the staff about this and was told it would be approximately 5 mins wait for me to get a new one done - this turned into 15 minutes making me late for work. This was served on the plate I sent back meaning the rice was obviously cold... I would never go back and would not recommend going there.

Was seeing something at the Park Theatre next door, so stopped off for dinner. This is such a cosy, friendly place with great food and really nice staff. Will definitely go again if I'm ever passing that way... Or even if I'm not.

Dropped in for a drink and a snack after a visit to the local Picturehouse Cinema. The three of us started with a mixed meze but being pleasantly surprised by the friendly staff and proficient cooking, we ordered more food. I was not quite so taken by the wine, but I am hard taskmaster. Always the acid test - would I go back again - yes sure if I was in the area.

The hot/cold meze was very good. The grill of chicken and kofta were of the same standard. Chateau Kefraya Red to top up. Service great, atmosphere amazing. I will come back soon. 1000 Shukran to all of you!

What a warm experience and absolutely delicious meal I had at this homey Finsbury Park spot! Was there to visit my son who lives and studies nearby and has been a regular there since he got to London. The owner and her family are just the loveliest and the food is abundant, reasonably priced and terrific. The kofta, salads, everything was so fresh and perfectly spiced. Can’t recommend it more highly!

Really disappointing! Would not go here! We booked through Fork. Immediately after arriving they made a massive point that most the menu wasn’t included in the deal even though it wasn’t stated anywhere. After we placed our order she told us we needed to order more food as it wasn’t enough money for them. After this they came over to the table 5 times in 5 minutes asking what we wanted. They made us feel really uncomfortable and awkward. Ruined the entire night for us. After the food came out it was obvious the portions were much smaller compared to others because we booked through the fork. After all this, when they brought the bill they added an extra £20 worth of food onto the bill that we didn’t order. You could tell this was intentional as they were rushing with the card machine for us to pay. This restaurant shouldn’t be on these apps if they’re going to make customers who use them feel bad and cheap for using them. The whole point of these apps is so people discover your restaurant and want to come back and recommend it to others friends. The entire experience was just awful! Lost our business and the business of everyone we know. Would not recommend going here.

Booked this place based on good reviews and we were not disappointed. This is a cosy restaurant with friendly and personalized service and a quick one too! We loved the food which was fresh and delicious. The aromatic Lebanese coffee with baklava was the cherry on the cake. Thank you and definitely recommend!

We came for a meal before a visit to the Park Theatre next door and it was superb. Every dish delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. I thought you couldn’t go wrong with kebab/chicken-on-skewer-type dishes but turns out everyone else /has/ gone wrong with them because these were so much more delicious than any I’ve eaten before! It’s apparently Lebanese tradition that everything comes at once, even soup, so it was a bit hard to keep everything warm enough as we ate it. But it was all fabulous, highly recommended. Husband's first time having Lebanese food and he'll definitely be back. He had the char-grilled lamb, I had the mixed grill, we shared a starter.. Everything was excellent, subtle flavours, just the right sized portions, very reasonably priced. Even the coffee was fab.

Working in the Park Theatre next door it was always great to go next door to My Cottage Cafe after the show either with fellow cast members or guests who had seen the show. Large groups would always be accommodated at short notice and it never seemed to close from what we could tell! The clear and simple menu had a delicious range of authentic Lebanese cuisine which swiftly arrived from the kitchen. Everything tasted great and fresh and accompanied by some gorgeous Lebanese wines. Totally recommended.

This is one of the most amazing places to stop and eat. It is simple and unpretentiousness, but the food is divine. Diyaa and is team really know about good food served up with warm hospitality. We love it for its good food and the fact that the vegetarians in our party are as well catered for as the carnivores. My Cottage has never failed us. Yum!!! Delicious from start to finish.

This unassuming restaurant might go unnoticed as you pass it by, but you should really stop in. Once you step through the doorway, you are given a warm welcome by staff who will cater to your every need. With a wide variety of food to satisfy any palate, this affordable establishment will make you want to come back again and again. From its quirky interior to the sumptuous food, you cannot go wrong coming here for a meal. I cannot recommend it enough, as it's one of the best Lebanese restaurants in the city.

I came here after I collected my ticket at the theatre next door. I ordered a cappuccino and a chicken wrap. Both were excellent. Full of flavour. The cafe had a nice quirky feel to it, seats were nice. I will return next time I’m in the area.

I have now been to this restaurant many times, before going to see a play at the amazing Park Theatre. Food has always been good, served quickly and the staff is helpful. The atmosphere is cosy.

Just popped in here as we were going to the Park Theatre next door but it was jammed due to a press night. What a find! The lamb was gorgeous, and they made my partner (who had a cold) a mysterious tea which she said was lovely and very effective! Couldn't believe how little it all cost.

We stopped in here for an early dinner before a show at the Park Theatre (right next door) and were excellently treated in all senses. The staff are very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, with all sorts of added touches that speak of dishes cooked to please and satisfy rather than just to meet a price point. We especially enjoyed an aubergine starter (named as Moussaka but different to the norm for that name), a truly terrific Fattoush salad and a gorgeous char-grilled boneless chicken. My son has been acting at The Park for a month and has come here often so he is a good witness that the food and the welcome hare are consistently excellent. Highly recommended.

Conveniently located next to the Park Theatre. It is a basic restaurant with excellent ethnic décor. Service was prompt and courteous. We had a selection of Lebanese starters which were excellent and portions are large. Very good value for money. Will definitely visit again.

A friend introduced me to this sweet place right next to the Park Theatre 50 yards from Finsbury Park tube. In the day you can nurse a coffee and read, but as the theatre time approaches it turns into a bustling taverna with authentic and reasonably priced dishes. We had two delicious hot mezes, pitta bread and drinks for £20. Lovely atmosphere, very good value!

Oh gosh I don't know how many times we have been there with family and friends or on our own, ignoring our takeaway orders:-). It has a neat menu with lots of delicious food. The staff is very friendly. The toilet is clean and the food is just yummy. My favourites are lentil soup, kibbeh, charcoal grills, humous. It is a humble place that would crunch thousands of pounds if it were in a more visible location and had better marketing. Oh also baklava is delicious! Wish more people could visit this place and support the honest good makers! We will continue to order :-) hope more people do so as well:-)

We were going to an evening performance at the excellent Park Theatre but discovered that they have stopped serving hot meals as they used to do. So we went next door to the little Lebanese Restaurant, expecting nothing much. It was really good - we had a selection of excellent mezzes, especially chicken livers, tabbouleh, kibbeh and falafel. It soon filled up, so book ahead. Several happy groups there. Nice friendly service. We'll be going again soon.

Deliciosa comida libanesa a precios razonables con un servicio amable y unas pocas mesas enfrente para comer al aire libre. Prueba el Kafta Khosh - Khash y compartir una ensalada picante para una comida muy satisfactorio. Buena variedad de mezze, también.

Tuvimos una comida deliciosa, una cena que consta de muchos teatros, variado meze libaneses regados con cerveza y vino de la casa. Todo servido para nosotros era fresco y sabroso. Los pasteles espinacas y la alas de pollo eran excepcionalmente tentadora tanto que aunque había comido bien pedimos unos segundos. Hay un ambiente encantador y acogedor, y el personal no podía haber sido más atento.

La comida es fantástica. Tuvimos unos whiskies fuentes calientes y frías estaban hermosamente aromatizados y delicioso. Gran selección y contundente.

We went here with family who had been before and recommended it. Staff were lovely. Initially we were only people there but it was 5.15pm! Girl who served us very pleasant. One thing on the menu wasn't available. Starters were good portions and all tasty. Mains not so good. I had lamb shank and it sounded like the sauce would be quite flavourful but was quite bland and it had lots of fat on it. The fish my mum had had lots of little bones in. Nice little complimentary baklava at end a lovely gesture. I think if I went here again I would chose just a selection of the starters as they were really good.

Collected theatre tickets (next door to Park), saw a £7.95 A-board outside very cute looking mid-eastern restaurant and thought, let's give it a go. A quick set mezze. So, we entered, only two other couples eating, sat down at a table at the back, we're given menus & explained to young woman we only had 40 mins to eat pre-matinee. Advised, no problem & she'd be a moment... After a while she returned. We asked about the set menu. She said to just choose starters, it's the same. All getting very complicated.. poor girl only staff & disappeared to take payments at till. We decided there must be a reason such a cute restaurant with allegedly tasty food was empty & hot-footed a couple of doors down to Pasta Remoli. Explained only had under 30-mins to eat, were seated & looked after beautifully, excellent meal inc a glass of & carafe of tap. There's a reason one's bustling & busy &..... Sorry but if you're in a hurry or want help & service, suggest you go elsewhere!!!

As a Lebanese living in London, I have always found it difficult to find Lebanese food which is similar to that at home. My Cottage Café exceeded all expectations and is hands down the best Lebanese restaurant I have visited in London.Fantastic service, home-cooked food and the owner always ensures that you had a great experience. I had passed in front of this restaurant many times without noticing it, as the exterior gives little away of the delicacies and lovely decor awaiting inside. Since a friend recommended it, however, it has become one of our favourites. Highlights include the hommous with lamb and the stuffed wine leaves (freshly prepared). The staff is also friendly and helpful.

Had a fantastic lunch today food was excellent starters were really good especially the baby aubergine. The sea bass was tasty and perfectly cooked as was the chicken. Staff were helpful accommodating (my nephew turned up almost 2 hrs late and starving and was fed in 15 mins) and friendly . Really can't more highly recommend

We stumbled across this cafe trying to get out of a rain storm and I'm really glad we did. We had a lovely lunch. The food is really flavoursome and the service was great. It was quiet but I'd imagine it has a good atmosphere in the evening as it's a really cozy place. I'd definitely go again.

There is a wide selection of mezze, pastries and wraps to choose from for lunch. The food was very tasty and the staff were friendly. Very good value - £20 for two people for lunch and a hot drink. I'll certainly be coming back!

Before going to eat here, I checked out the reviews online, which were almost universally positive and complimentary. So, we were looking forward to trying it out.Sadly, the reality failed to meet our expectations. The restaurant was busy, but there was only one young woman trying to serve the whole restaurant. She couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, but she was rushed off her fett and could not cope - which meant that the service we received was generally poor.The food, when it came, was not of the standard promised by the reviews. Everything was greasy in the extreme, and was served lukewarm. We were disappointed!In terms of value for money, it was reasonable.We won't be going back there, even though we eat in the immediate vicinity regularly.

I have been here a few times now and can honestly say the food is amazing and reasonably priced. It's a relaxed place not too many tables. Great service. Perfect for a quiet lunch and dinner. They do fresh juices which are prepared as you order. The hot mezes are great. Cheese pastries, green beans in a rich tomato sauce. Tje Kibbeh are yum. I also had the mixed grill. It will be a regular place for me a real Gem.

Great place to grab mezze or a full meal before and after a performance at the excellent Park Theater next door. Our gang of six passed around treats and enjoyed a couple of entrees. Food is reasonably priced and the service is attentive to the fact that we're going to the show!.

Ate here with my family for dinner before attending a show at the theatre next door. Am already thinking of all the times I can go back. I am so glad my mother found this little place. It is so unassuming from the outside but the food is to die for, the service is friendly and it has a really nice feel to it.

Stopped by enroute home and what a find! Ordered the set menu and every dish was perfection. Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Highly recommend visiting.

Visited here whilst visiting the park theatre. Very impromptu visir. But what a find. The food was lovely. Freshly prepared. And absolutely delicious. A real find. The chairs and benches are covered in cushions. The tables are rustic.

A really lovely restaurant. Great quality food and warm, friendly service. Cosy and convivial. We will be returning!

We ate with friends before attending the Park Theatre. When we arrived a little after 6 on a Saturday evening the restaurant was busy but there were tables free. By the time we left at 7:15 it was packed.The menu is good and we ordered four main courses. These arrived in a sensible time and we were very pleasantly surprised by the size of the portions and their quality. The chicken sis was very good, the lamb kofta full of flavour and the stuffed lamb also very good. All were accompanied by roast vegetables which were delicious and rice.Service was efficient and friendly.In response to GKB238 we are not related to the owner or comparing it with Finsbury Fried Chicken down the street. He must have visited on an off day which can sometimes happen to any restaurant.

Lovely setting and Francesca was amazing! Our first Lebanese meal and it will not be our last - it is one of only a handful where I have personally asked to congratulate the kitchen staff/Chef. Recommend, recommend!!

What a wonderful surprise this evening when we tried for the first time a Lebanese meal. A small restaurant with bundles of charm we were greeted by a smiling and very helpful Francesca who helped explain some of the items on the menu. We decided to try several of the hot Mezze dishes for the purposes of experimenting and we were not disappointed. Every dish that came out was fabulous, the service was exceptional and all at a price that was really good value, we have not enjoyed a meal out so much for a very long time. The kitchen is open for you to see and I personally thanked the chefs for such an enjoyable meal. If you are planning on an evening out to Park Theatre or just happen to be in the area make an effort to go and try this wonderful hidden gem. We look forward to visiting again and have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone.

A small little cafe next to the theatre doesn't look like anything on the outside . Charming little restaurant lovely staff. The flavours were exquisite. Lovely menu,we had between four of us spicy chickpea houmous , a wonderful salad ,aubergine dip , cucumber and yoghurt dish one lamb skewer one chicken . Which was more than enough ..... you have to try it it is so good .
