Waiter was attentive but he was the only one serving. Had decided to have the beef but this was off the menu. Had a wonderful double cheese soufflé and ordered chicken breast for main, which looked the size of a capon with a few green leaves. Maybe at most it was five bits. Cod just wasn't any good either. £78 for two ( one G&T only).Felt ripped off.

On the whole the food was okay, bur disappointing. My starter of pork belly and prawn was scant to say the least. The moment the plate arrived I was shocked by the minimal food presented, especially for £11.50. My steak, while tasty, was served over cooked for a medium rare and the skinny chips were not skinny. When questioned if these were skinny fries the answer was "they are hand cut". If you can't cut a skinny fry, don't put it on the menu. The fries did taste good though. My wife's crab crusted cod was somewhat salty she tells me.All was tasty and well presented but... Service from Georgia was friendly and attentive.

Where do I start!!!! Was invited to go to a family Ruby Anniversary meal here, to start with at the bar asked for a J20 fruit drink to be told we do not stock drinks like that only coke or Diet Coke, such a choice for a non drinker!!!!On to the meal. My sister had previously booked and spoke to the restaurant about the party of 9 adults and 1 child, to be told to pre order food which we did, then when we got to restaurant we were told the menu had changed so choose from that days menu, well only problem with that is it did not have what some people liked on it as of the previous menu, anyhow we all chose are starters. When they came the mushroom risotto had poached eggs on top which was not stated anywhere on the menu, now this could cause problems if allergic to eggs or as one guest does not like eggs and he had one on there, this should either be stated on menu or not included in the starter. The cod cheek starter was just a load of deep fried batter hardly any fish in it and was as hard as anything to eat.We were then informed that there was only 3 beef roast left, baring in mind it was only 1.45 so one person had to change the roast for another roast meat. Surprise surprise they then came out to say there were no Yorkshire puds left to go on the roast but could have extra roast potatoes, OMG are you for real I thought we were at FAWLTY TOWERS, really at 1.45 on a Sunday no beef left no Yorkshire left and you are saying you are running a high class restaurant do behave, you could go to the local and get a better meal for half the price, one guest did offer to go and knock up a batter for the chef . Anyhow tada our mains arrived and guess what 4 beers came out when we was told only 3 left and no pork was brought out and then by complete luck there was Yorkshire’s brought out and potatoes, where oh where did they all of a sudden come fro, it was just laughable a complete and utter shambles. My poor sister I felt so sorry for her what was meant to be a lovely Ruby wedding Anniversary meal turned out to be a joke. Not once did anyone come and ask if everything was ok, my sister went to speak to food manager but didn’t get much joy. Finally had dessert which was ok. The meal had been paid for in advance and all they offered was the 2 bottles of wine for free, well I’m sorry but that is disgusting absolutely disgraceful and a complete embarrassment. I fill so sorry for my sister the day was ruined by this joke of a restaurant. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant and I think you as a manager need to sort the problem out and sort your restaurant out, you are giving other Harbour hotels a bad nam, shame on you. Also looking at reviews funny how you will reply to good reviews but not to bad ones, get your act together.

Our table of 4 was the only one occupied this lunch time. We waited 40 minutes for our meals. After 30 minutes one more table had 2 guests. When our food did arrive it was good, although 2 of us had the fish cake with leek and mustard sauce, and it was just that. One fish cake sitting on a small pile of julienne leeks surrounded by a mustard sauce. My other 2 friends had confit duck leg, which was generous and apparently very good. Dessert again took a long time to arrive, despite the fact that we all had the same. It arrived Luke warm. Teas and coffee did arrive more promptly, and the delivery of the bill was amazingly speedy. However there was an apparently non negotiable service charge. We decided to pay up as we were on our way to the ballet and didn’t want to start a row. A very disappointing experience.

The menu is good with some interesting dishes on it, and it was reasonably priced. However we did have a few issues. My starter was lacking a bit in flavour: the pork belly was simply lovely and very tasty but the other components of the dish were just a bit disappointing. My main course was nice but my wife's fish was overcooked and a bit dry. But our main issue was the length of time we had to wait between the first and second courses. We weren't in any particular hurry but there was a very long gap between the courses; we weren't the only table that seemed to wait a long time and the restaurant wasn't full so I am not sure what the problem was. The staff were all fine and we didn't have any issues there. So, overall, it was okay but it wasn't the great meal that we were expecting to enjoy.

Feeling very let down by Christchurch harbour hotels. Booked for a meal for our Sapphire wedding anniversary (45 years) arrived at 4.50 in good time for the pre theatre dinner menu which was served from 5 pm. The food was excellent until the dessert, which we ordered at 6.10pm. At 6.35 no dessert had arrived. We had made it quite clear that our theatre tickets were booked for a 7 pm start. After several requests to the young and seemingly inexperienced waiters and the manager himself we were eventually served at 6.38; the manager rather reluctantly and not particularly kindly told us that it was ‘all out of their hands’ because a wedding party had sat down half an hour late and had to have their dessert before us. It’s not rocket science to understand that a wedding party has all night, but we, who were one of only 3 occupied tables in the restaurant, obviously did not have all night as we had to walk through a very rainy and stormy night to the theatre by 7 at the outside. We would have liked a relaxed dessert and some coffee but with the very mealy mouthed apology we had to rush our dessert and run to get into our seats with 2 minutes to spare (and at 67 running is not easy!) I didn’t appreciate being told by the manager Jamie Gahan that it was out of his hands. Having the wine donated for free did not make up for the poor service involved.I am really tired of businesses who fall short by:not immediately apologising when they are at fault and sounding as if they mean itAppreciating that offering the service or goods for free doesn’t make up for a spoiled experienceMaking the hapless customer feel as if they are somehow at fault for not having the experience they deserveI run a small business and if I fall short I don’t blame anyone else but myself. We were made to feel as if there was something wrong with us for asking to be served dessert in time for us to get to the theatre without rushing. Today we decided to eat at The Ship as it was a special occasion. The food is very good but was completely undermined by the poor service, and I’m afraid our experience has put us off eating there again.

I really hate writing negative reviews but am quite disappointed by the 'Afternoon tea' experience at this hotel. A friend of mine booked this as a baby shower treat for myself and 5 other friends. On arriving, the front of house staff were lovely and directed me through to the restaurant and told the man who must have been restaurant manager I was 'the one for the baby shower.' It all went downhill from there really. I asked him where the table was and he barely looked up from his computer to tell me 'you're the first one here by the way, its round to the left, over there.' I may be asking too much but I found this a very odd way to be seated. I couldn't see the table from where I was, so asked again, whereabouts it was. He said, 'you literally go round there and you'll see it on the left.' Having worked in hospitality, I felt this was very poor service in what would have taken him one minute to show me where the table was or maybe ask me if he could get me a drink. My friends arrived and there were two other young waiter/waitresses but a relatively quiet restaurant. They brought over menus but the service stopped there. We had to get up to..-find someone to take our order-find someone to bring us more tea/coffee/jam/cream when it ran out.-find someone to ask for the bill.-find someone to ask for more water.-find someone to ask for the card machine to pay the bill.At no point after the food being brought out did anyone check on us to see if the food was ok/if we needed anything else. This was absolutely below par and to be honest a little embarrassing when we were each paying £17.50 for the privelige. The afternoon tea itself was fine but the salmon sandwiches had grey bits running through it that were chewy and inedible and one of the choices of cake had been sat in the fridge and was dry and solid. If someone had come to check we would have been able to say this. The food for all of us was served in a really strange way... 10 scones mounded up on a plate, one serving of jam and cream and then all the sandwiches and cakes on a 2 tier plate stack. This made us eating it really awkward as we constantly had to pass the stand (really heavy) and the scone plate and jams back and forth up our table.I enjoyed the fact that I was with my friends but feel that the service and quality of food is in no way in keeping with the rest of the hotel. I would strongly advise that the restaurant staff are given further basic training as when we left the tables were all uncleared, with waiters stood in the corner polishing cutlery instead.. They seemed to do this for the majority of the service, just stood around and not really engaging with the customers or checking on tables. I would not recommend or return.

I booked the local gin tasting experience at the Ship as part of my husband's birthday celebrations. The tasting was arranged by Jamie who took care to make sure that the tasting was personalised to meet our requirements - we specified the number of gins to taste and the fact that we wanted to try local gins and left the exact choice to the discretion of the local expert. The tasting was hosted by Tom the barman who was very attentive and professional. He matched each of the 3 local gins with appropriate garnishes and tonic and told us about the producers. As an added bonus he also made us delicious Bramble gin cocktails to finish off the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it for a fun way to try new gins. We would also like to mention that Tom was an excellent barman throughout our stay and looked after us very well.

I booked a meal for my husbands birthday as the Jetty had hosted my own two years ago brilliantly. We ended up hiring a private room as we had twenty guests and were concerned about spoiling other diners experiences with excessive chatter etc. from a large group. We ordered nibbles with "fizz" and fish and chips and wine for us all and the meal was lovely. Sally who looked after us all was great and a mention for Sandreen and Kate Pinder for their first class customer skills. There was only one thing that spoilt the night, I found out the day before that we were to be charged £120 (£6 per head) to bring in the birthday cake and for me to cut it and distribute. We were being charged because we had not ordered deserts,I appreciate a small charge could have been added but £120 I felt, was excessive especially as our guests spent so much in the bar (hotel prices). I was told it was too late to order deserts so sadly we all went without even a slice of cake as our guests were so shocked at the cost and would not allow me to cut it. We were not charged two years ago so I guess this is a fairly new thing. I guess what I'm saying is we had a lovely evening just watch out for the cake charge!

We had previously visited the Southampton Jetty with our friends and were delighted with our Sunday lunch there. This time we were disappointed - 3 of us started with the cheese soufflé which was OK but not outstanding. Our other friend opted for the smoked salmon. Again 3 of us had the sea bream that was substituted for the salmon main course as this was unavailable. It was greasy and not much taste at all. One of our number had the aged bavette which turned out to be a steak that was tasty as I sampled a slice. We had a variety of desserts and my jelly Prosecco with fruit was light and tasty. My partner had the chocolate cake which was a bit dry. Our friends had the key lime pie and lemon sorbet. We all had a cauliflower amuse bouche which was good. The lunch at £19.95 (plus 10% service charge) for four courses is good value. Laura and Sally gave us excellent service. Sadly I can only give an average rating.

Service wasn't great, took them ages to bring the water, then also the wine, for which we were in urgent need!! then they only bought one of the starters etc, but they did give us a complimentary glass of wine which made up for a lot! Nice ambience and good value for tasty, beautifully presented food. Would be nice if both the starter and main course vegetarian options were not both salads.

Having been a regular visitor to the Southampton Jetty since it opened 20 months ago and having been to the Christchurch one a few times, I was looking forward to going to the Chichester one to meet some friends for dinner. What a disappointment! The hotel is a bit shabby and the ladies toilets needed considerable work. The staff are nowhere near as well trained as the other Jetty venues I’ve been to. After waiting for at least an hour, we had to ask someone to take our order. We were shown to our table which could have been in any pub, no wine glasses or side plates. I had the smoked salmon which consisted of a pile of salmon, a few leaves and a dry piece of rye toast. We had all ordered the crab linguine which was reasonably tasty but verging on dry so by the last few mouthfuls, all the pasta was stuck together. There is no comparison to the sister venues in Southampton & Christchurch. I shall not return to the Chichester one!

I wasn't going to post a poor review as I spoke to Fabian the assistant restaurant manager who asked me to email Maxime Thuiller the restaurant Manager directly rather than post yet another negative review, but I never got a reply back, so I feel I have no option but to complain on here now. . My partner and I have frequented the Jetty at Christchurch on many occasions and it is in fact one of our favourite spots for lunch and dinner, so we thought that we had chosen a safe bet for dinner whilst staying in Chichester -at one of it's sister restaurants. We couldn't have been more wrong as it turns out. We arrived at a virtually empty restaurant. We were told by the receptionist that they had a problem with their computer system and were unable to accept cash so my partner had to walk 5 minutes into town in the pouring rain to find a cash point. The bar was full of drunken guests from Goodwood races and there was a wedding in one of the side rooms. It was chaotic and noisy. There was only one waiter available in the restaurant and he was rushed off his feet. To cut a long story short - it took almost hour before any food or drink appeared on our table. They didn't have the wine we had ordered and so brought a more expensive one (by £2.00). The assistant manager said that we wouldn't have to pay the difference - which was good of him!! The food when it eventually turned up was inedible as was the diner's on the table next to us. We agreed topay for just one starter and the wine.

Did a £20 Sunday lunch deal and ended up leaving food on the plate - and considering I'll happily eat food cooked at the side of the street in Asia that's not an easy feat to accomplish. In fact I don't think that's EVER happened before. Meat roasts looked very good - although practically zero veg for anyone, I mean one sprig of broccoli and one potato chopped in to three? -Nut roast was awful, yorkshire inedible, plus I pity any vegans that try and eat here as I'll usually choose vegan over vegetarian and the only listed vegan option was a tomato side salad. Background singer was good but was at an intrusive volume for a quiet lunch and some warning would have been nice due to two hearing impaired family members. Staff were polite. Despite the cheap price I wouldn't bother going back.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel and a meal at the restaurant was part of the package we selected. I like the way the restaurant is decorated, it’s provides a good ambience in which to dine. The food was very good, we had the mussels and cod and crab, both were cooked to perfection and very tasty. Dessert was tasty too. I would recommend.

Had heard good things about the restaurant so booked in for a family lunch. First impression was negative. There was wedding going on so all the focus was on that. Very noisy bar area next to the dining room made me want to leave at once. Luckily the party moved on. Waitresses were friendly but under pressure. The food though was so disappointing. It looked OK but lacked any flavour. Not cheap either. Wine menu interesting but very pricey.Gents toilets a long walk away and filthy. This place is not cheap but the food does not match the price. Chichester needs some good eateries but The Jetty has missed an opportunity. We will certainly not be back.

I suspect we were among the first diners following extensive refurbishment. The duty manager was strangely biased in his level of attention - one or two tables had excessive attention and fluttering about, others had difficulty distracting him. As a result supervision was much needed but non-existent, which was sad, given that what eventually emerged from the kitchen was pretty good! Our service was so bad that I complained, he agreed and gave us 25% discount. I'd have preferred to see him managing effectively. We might try again . . . .

Visited here with our senior citizen reading club. They had a big wedding on, but they managed to cope with that and look after the smaller groups dinning that day. Their set menu of three courses was good. I had the mushrooms on sourdough toast which was good, followed by their fish and chips. Fish and chips were good, peas just OK. Dessert was a chocolate pudding with mulled wine and ice cream, which was good, Their London pale ale was very good. Service was top rate.

Somewhat disappointing and average considering it was a special occasion, we’d spent time selecting this restaurant, and it was £50 a head. Overall the food was very good. No-one greeted us when we entered, the restaurant was quarter full, the bar was very noisy, we waited 10 minutes, interrupted a waiter, said we had a booking, waiter said “how many” and pointed at the table. We did not feel welcomed. Men’s toilet was very untidy and some of the floor was wet. Some delays in bringing out the courses. Desserts expensive, unexciting and not as described (the chocolate tart). Had to ask about the dessert of the day. Overall, staff just didn’t feel attentive. Didn’t want to complain about any of this for fear of spoiling the evening. Nobody seemed to be in charge. Unlikely to return.

We dined at this restaurant for dinner and breakfast this week. Neither I or my husband could fault the food. Steak full of flavour and cooked perfectly. And as for the desserts - well I just wanted more it was soo good. The staff in the restaurant try very hard - I feel sorry for them with how many miles a day they must walk to and from the kitchen! They are obviously a new serving team but very welcoming, apologetic for basic small mistakes (like no side plates with sharing starter) and polite. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them - they just need to build experience. All in all - I would return in a heart beat - especially for more dessert :-)

First time visit for a pre-theatre meal. Nicely decorated, not particularly busy restaurant in Harbour Hotel. Service was polite and timely, menu choice a bit limited but food served hot and on time. Dishes could have done with better seasoning and I’m not sure the linguini was freshly made. Could also have done with a bit less pesto as was left with a green soup at the bottom of the bowl when the pasta had gone. Unfortunately I think they’re charging a bit over the odds for what you get. £75 for two courses for two people having one glass of wine each. Perhaps it was that bottle of sparkling water that did it .....

I've eaten one lunch and three evening meals during a 4-day stay at the Harbour Hotel. All of the meals were very good and service professional. There are lots of options, and I was permitted to order from the bar menu on two evenings. You are immediately offered tap water, and the wine was very good. It's not fast food so be prepared to wait while your order is prepared. The Pimms dessert was delicious.

Came in for anniversary meal. Completely different layout to previous. Made to sit in very cramped room on top of other tables, not very romantic! Had set menu. First time ever I've had soup that's come without bread. Thought it was a mistake but was told this was the correct. Has poached egg and fish cake for main. Ordered side of fries as it came in a bowl literally one fish cake plus egg. Chips not very nice. Like a bad version of McDonald's. Fishcake nice. Had apple cake for dessert. Very nice. Lot of older people in who were complaining about waiting staff. We had other people's meals delivered several times. Was OK but didn't feel as much a venue for a special occasion as when it was Murrays. I appreciate the food is operating on a gross margin but a few nicer chips or bread with soup would cost virtually nothing but would leave the diner more likely to return.

Five of us dined here pre theatre in August. First the good news - the food - it really is very nice. Now for the bad, the service. Despite the restaurant not being that busy, the service was slow to non-existent, we had to ask for everything (menus, wine, water etc) at least twice if not three times. We asked for ketchup and vinegar with the fish and chips but they arrived fifteen minutes later when we’d all but finished. And when asking for things, there was an unfortunate tone from the waiting staff - ‘we’re very busy with a wedding’ a common refrain. Presumably the wedding was also the reason the toilets were in dire need of servicing. The night before we’d dined at Cote I’m Chichester and what a contrast - nothing was too much trouble and it was about half the price. Disappointed by The Jetty I’m afraid and the service is doing the food a disservice.

It was a hot day when my friend and I arrived for afternoon tea. We were seated quickly, right by the door when the place was practically empty. The waitress asked if we would like some water, still or sparkling, being hot and hungry I requested 'still'. Had I been on the ball I would have replied 'tap' and avoided being tricked into paying £4 for water. Some of the sandwiches were a bit dry and the scones were nothing to write home about but there was lashings of jam and cream. I had something gross at the bottom of my teapot but the waiter brought me a fresh pot. Shame the crockery was stripey and hefty; afternoon tea should be served on china!

We went for pre-theatre lunch. The service was very slow and we were recommended the set menu as being quicker - we arrived 2 hours before the performance!!!. I chose from the a la carte, which was fine, my partner chose the recommended fish & chips which was the smallest main course portion I have ever seen. The restaurant was never full & the waiters & waitresses spent more time talking to each other than attending to guests, they didn't seem to know what they were meant to be doing. This could be good with effective training for the staff.

The menu is very heavily fish orientated but with a relatively inventive menu. On the upper end of mid range for both food and wine, it was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and the ladies were very attentive. However, the music was not conducive to dining! I suspect the music was chosen by the 20 something’s bar staff for their own pleasure, so high octane percussion didn’t go with intimate conversations and supposedly fine dining. Fast, high pitched music tends to make customers eat faster - yet they didnt exactly have a queue waiting to eat so what was the point? Most of the diners were 40+

Having been given a voucher for afternoon tea as a gift we expected something a bit special. When we arrived promptly for our 4.00 pm booking we were told our table was not ready and asked to wait. Fifteen minutes later we were seated but then waited a further ten minutes before a waitress appeared and another ten minutes before our food actually arrived. It didn't help that whilst were were waiting for our table the only reading matter was hubristic company literature telling us how amazing they are. We were told more than once that they were short-staffed. One doesn't expend high-end hospitality providers to trot out that feeble excuse. The tea itself? Some very ordinary ham and egg sandwiches, some dry over-baked scones and petite fours instead of pastries. There are a dozen more modest places in Chichester that could have done a better job than that. Are Harbour Hotels all style and no substance?

I have had many meals here, mainly for its proximity to my work. Try as I might to like it, I have to say there is always a problem. I've never known a place with such a quick staff turnover. Yes customers can be difficult and impatient but today when I had lunch was it necessary for the waitress to slam the glasses down because we asked for quick service due to a lunch break! The restaurant was virtually empty but staff attitude was not concealed. I ordered off the set course mains but was not told I would be charged for two courses. The food was nice but lacking balance so I had to order a side salad. There is no can do attitude and I'm afraid I cannot recommend if you expect a certain standard, especially as it is not cheap. I must find somewhere else!

An evening with friends last night. The service, decor and table settings are all good. The problem is the lacklustre attempts at adventurous food. All the basics like fish and chips etc were fine. But the cheese soufflé was just a creamy mound, with barely cheese or flavour. And the whole roasted cauliflower was devoid of any flavour whatsoever (I've had "cauliflower clouds" numerous times and they've been delicious). So it's all ok.... but just don't order anything too wacky.

This is a lovely spot in the middle of Goodwood. With a nice view of the planes came here for breakfast with a friend staff not really friendly ordered the most expensive breakfast sausage was a good quality. Apart from that it was the same as a breakfast should get a cheap backstreet café Mushrooms won’t cook properly you get a teaspoon of beans in a little pot literally a teaspoon bacon was so thin and tiny tomato not cooked. They bulk it up with two slices of white toast with cheap margarine and the toast wasn’t even butter to the edges, so all the edges were dry , nobody came over to check everything was okay. Nobody said goodbye thank you for your custom. Nothing considering Goodwood is such a big concern the people on the table next to us got up and left after eating. The go cleared the table but never sprayed it and cleaned it, so you could see crumbs all over it. There was a Servià on the floor and then a fresh couple came and sat at the table which was dirty Quite poor standards for Goodwood I don’t think I would eat here again. I can get a breakfast in a garden centre, cheaper and better quality and cooked better
