Murphy's on the Green in Strabane

Really enjoyed my time here, staff where so friendly and welcoming, food was beautiful. Very quick service. Will definitely be back.

Out for an early dinner with family and 93 year old parent. Front door pavement access blocked by a car unloading plastic bagged veg and chips out of a boot. Not a good first impression seeing your perspective dinner coming out of a boot. Once in the building we we directed into the bar area which was very cold. The staff were all very young and standing about in a huddle. Asked if perhaps they could adjust the temperature. An older man started lighting a fire with broken up styrofoam. Fire didn’t light. Only two had starters which arrived promptly. Potato skins were okay Garlic mushrooms were cold with little garlic in the mayo. The main course of 4 steaks arrived in a reasonable time. And seemed to be cooked according to preference. However the plates were cold, the food was cold, the steaks were cold. This wasn’t a problem for the 93 year old. One of the party got the chicken curry, the small portion and it was very nice, tasty, hot and a generous helping. I tried to get the attention of a male staff member on his way past. He indicated that he was busy ! and that he’d be back again. He didn’t. The staff were young, inexperienced and looked uninterested. The young girl who attended our table did try her best but it seemed that no one has trained them on how to interact with customers. Dessert was had by a few of our table and coffee and latte requested by the rest.Apologies were provided that the coffee machine was broken for latte but we could have americano, which we accepted. A catering size pot of coffee arrived for two people and I was hard pushed to smell the coffee let alone taste it. The poor girl at the bar made it and obviously had no clue. We paid and left and not one lifted their heads to say thank you, or goodbye. Why you may well ask did I not say anything at the time ! Well, I was out with my 93 year old father. This was one of his favourite places to go with my late mother. He seemed to be enjoying himself and I hadn’t the heart to upset him by making a fuss.

I'm so disappointed. I used to love the food in this place. Had a steak as I always did, 10 oz! More like 6 oz, unseasoned, bland, cutlery looked like they came from cheap chippie. Took ages for food to come, table beside us came in after us and was served before us..

Very slow service a small group had to wait almost an hour for the main course when the food came it was excellent but you wouldn't want to order a full course e.g.starter, main and dessert because you could be there for hours a very noisy crowd was in the evening we visited but I realise it's Christmas so anything can happen I suppose but not cosy or relaxing at this visit

The worse service I've ever witnessed in a restaurant. The waiters appeared as if they didn't want to be there. They couldn't even get the cutlery right for the meals they served. No steak knife with steak. A fork given to eat ice cream. Customers had to go up to the bar to order their deserts.They waited so long. One family left,as they were left waiting to order for at least three quarters of an hour. Too many waiters standing around with no interest in their job. Sympathy to the owners.

Food was ok. Service was the worse I've witnessed. No steak knife. Fork to eat ice cream. Waiters were very uninterested in their job and the customers.

Food was good but service was really poor. The main was brought before we received the starters and after waiting forever we had to get up to the bar to get desert cards and nobody even came down to take our desert orders. So while food was 4/5, service was 0 and cleanliness maybe okay but in the entrance had to dig your way through the flies

Ordered take out for Sunday lunch as the weather is so warm. Somebody needs to be taste testing what they're making does there. Stuffing had a overpowering, pungent taste, not sure which herb has the taste of window cleaner. Ruined everyone's dinner. Only myself got a dessert. The milk has gone off in the hot weather. So my custard was made with sour milk. Needless to say dessert was ruined as well. Not looking for any response, happy to just cut my ties now.

I haven't been to Murphy's since before Pandemic. It's good to see that they keep the standard high. The meal wasn't cheap but the price was justified by the quality. My fiancé said it was the best steak he has had in his life.

Really disappointed with the service and food. Waiting about 15 minutes before anyone even asked what we wanted to order. Food came eventually and chicken was pink and parts were like rubber. No Pineapple in the messy burger either. Beer no head on it either. Staff stood around bar area most of the time. Very disappointing

Visited as a group of 4 for new years day meal.... Place was just emptying out it seemed at 7pm! We ordered drinks and thanks to the young girl waiter who was quite nice for going to the local shop and getting me my milk but for the two girls in the group ordered cocktails strawberry daiquiris but they had no straws to drink it with, a hard ask a spoon mite have helped! Lol Onwards we go waiting a while for the main dishes to arrive which took some time but once they did arrive it was so poor the steaks that was ordered arrived very small in size 12oz had massive excessive fat on the side and plated on wrong type of mash! We questioned this as the plain mash was horrendous really cold, lumpy and black parts throughout it obviously from the steak juices that hadn't been resting! Waiter was made aware and offered to change them. Sides arrived the garlics missing half the bowl which was questioned and taken back alongside a missing pepper sauce. The correct chilli mash replacement had been ordered alongside the taken back garlics which left 1 member of party no sides at all for her dish or no sauce for her steak. No joke she waited a good 5 to 7 minutes for this, steak getting cold most of table already well into there meal. 2 new tables arrived at restaurant (a table of 2 and family of 3 young kid) and orders taken before the replacement sides arrived..... The chilli mash/garlics arrived at table massive portion I may add maybe as a good will gesture but that's the only good side about it. The mash again lumpy, texture awful just so poor food on the table! Waiter asked were we missing anything else to be told yes two sides hadn't arrived a portion of onion rings and champ dunno if it was a wise move on the champ side but out they come and let's say they were worse than the previous mash on the table it was left untouched. We finished our meal waiter/bar man offered to clear table and we discussed about the poor quality of the potatoes to which he said we shoulda made him aware and woulda changed them.... The food delivered we know isn't his fault and there was 3 times throughout our meal that mash arrived at our table all of the same quality horrible so I don't think replacements would have mattered. On a plus note this bar man was the only positive from our experience apologising for the mishaps and tried to make amends for the poor standard of food arriving from the kitchen. I aint sure if there was some1 of managerial level on site but it seemed to be alot of young staff in the restaurant and this is so unfair leaving them hung out to dry and pick up the slack from the awful standard of cooking. On paying for our bill not 1 thing was offered full amount paid,Disgraceful. Overall experience given it was my 1st time in the restaurant Ill never return or eat in here again the other local restaurants ie oysters and the banks wipe the floor with Murphy, even local cafes offered a higher standard of food.

We had our Christmas party meal here with a few drinks the food was delicious and the place was lovely and warm with a really nice atmosphere the staff could not have done anymore to accommodate us thankyou very much from all the staff in stewarts jewellers strabane 🥰

Terrible food and service for a restaurant that has some good reviews I definately won't reccomend to anybody food was cold steaks were not what we asked for asked for rare it came well done children's food was forgotten about charged for a side order that we didn't even recieve got asked if food was ok I said it was not good at all no offer of a replacement or even a complimentary drink on house to say sorry staff not helpful to us either definately will not be going back unless I get an apology from.the manager at least

Great place for traditional grub, very affordable, great quality too. Portions are huge, so be aware when ordering starters and mains. Roast dinners are highly recommended.

Well what can i say about this. We ordered starters and mains garlic mushrooms with a side salad. The mushrooms were huge and you got 5, lovely and crispy very tasty. Then I had a beef roast, this was huge i got roast potatoes, yorkshire pud, loads of very tender roast beef, a bowl of mash potato and a bowl of carrot and swede with a delicious jug of gravy..omg it was amazing.

I am portuguese and the food its one of the fundamental parts of my culture, it was an horrible and expensive experience!! I often think now that they should pay me to eat their food and not the otherwise, anyway love Irlanda but this restaurant 0.

Definitely not be returning from service to food mark out of 10 I would only give it 1

We arrived for dinner and where seated quickly. Ordered drinks and then food. We waited over half an hour for our starters and there was only two of us. Starters came out which we both thought was nice then we waited another 25 minutes for our mains we both ordered steaks well done (I’ll let the photo speak for itself) My partners steak was not well done and mines had no taste to it. Really disappointed with the food as anytime we have been before it’s always been first class. My partner did eat the steak although it wasn’t well done as he didn’t want to wait for it to be took back in to be cooked correctly. We mentioned to the boss man himself when we paid about how the steak was cooked and we didn’t even as much as get an apology. Over priced for what we received. Won’t be returning!

25 of us went here yet again for a family reunion. This time we were seated at the back restaurant which is very pleasing in decor and seating. Service by the bar staff was very good but overall the quality of the food could be in places better. Out of the 25 meals, 4-5 had to be sent back to be brought up to a better standard. If this quality could be improved upon then this would be a really good place to eat on a regular bases. In saying that the Irishman's steak, which I got ,could not be faulted and the chicken dishes ordered at our table were good, however the spagetti bolgnese dishes could be improved upon, a little too salty. Service was good and as usual the side portions were far too much. Concentrate on improving the main dishes and cut down on the side orders. No complaints about the desserts however and the Irish Coffees and Coffee Royales went down a treat. Came into the restaurant at 7-30 to 8pm and left at 11-30pm so no rushing you out which is excellent. Covid precautions all in place but relaxion coming in slowly for 31/10/2021. Will we be back again? I would say a yes to that for if you factor in all aspects Murphy's is central and reasonably priced for a large family crowd.

First time myself and my wife, visited here and the staff were very polite and attentive.food was prompt and delicious fair priced for the portion size cup or tea not catering cheap rubbish good quality. Recommend this place.

Rubbish food and staff with attitude!!!

First in restaurant, ordered our food , the waitress check twice with us if our order was correct, but when my order came out it was done with chicken, me being vegetarian, my was a stir fry with noddles, was so watery, the veg raw, my husband chicken Gordon's dish was taken back to kitchen, to be kept warm, while they remade mine, so no I will never be back and would not recommend to friends and family

As the title shows, firstly I must accept and make known the fact that we did not bring any of the following up with staff as we had our meal - we could not bring ourselves to, not even though we're both seasoned professionals in the industry - out of embarrassment for what was served. My toes where curling knowing how bad it was and that my guest clearly wasn't enjoying a thing. Firstly, I'll start with the menus. I knew well once I seen the menu and it was multiple pages long, with dishes all reusing the same proteins yet rehashed in unnecessary and unsavory ways, we would be getting nothing special but I held out hope. The Starters are the same overused and almost always badly executed things that are very common in and around this part of the country (why, I'll never understand.). Potato Skins, Deep Fried Mushrooms, Prawn Cocktail etc. We wisely skipped past them. I noticed straight away that repeated over a large amount of dishes was a "chilli mash" but we'll get to that in a moment. I struggled to find anything appealing, the same as my guest but we decided to make a choice as we where short on time. My first choice was the Breast of Barbary Duck which unfortunately was unavailable ( that's disappointing yet understandable, things can sell out ). So I ended up reluctantly requesting a 12⁰Z Sirloin cooked medium rare with just mash and pepper sauce on the side as a precaution. My guest ordered soup and a side salad. The food arrived and the first impressions where not good ones. The plates, grimey and smudged up. The soup was splattered on the rim of the bowl showing a lack of care in the kitchen. You can't tell me you didn't notice that and didn't have 3 seconds to clean the rim before sending the dish at least two people had a chance to rectify it (the chef and the waitress) and opted not to. The side salad was all cramped up on a tiny oval dish and my guest pointed out the "dirty marks" on the hard boiled eggs whatever that might have been, they went uneaten. My 12⁰Z steak was not 12 ounces, much closer to 8⁰z or 8½ at most. As I said I asked for it medium rare, yet it came out and I was disappointed the second I saw it. Clearly smaller than was advertised, blood leaking all around the plate which can only mean it hasn't been rested what so ever - another display of incompetent cooking. To top it off, the steak was cooked medium well - well done (a concrete sin for those whole love a properly prepared steak!), lacking in the seasoning area aswell unfortunately. My guest had about 5 spoons of the soup before she decided she couldn't force herself to eat anymore of it. She likened it to cheap, reheated packet soup. Now I can get to the mash and I am not at all exaggerating when I say this was the worst attempt at mash I've ever ever had. I know microwaved mash when I see, it's unmistakable and this was absolutely that. The texture was so displeasing. Gelatinous and lumpy with texture closer to raw bread dough than mashed potatoes. I'm not joking when I say that I put my spoon into the side order of mash and it lifted up out of the side dish whole! Stuck to the spoon. The mash didn't even stick to the bowl giving you an idea of how elastic it's was! The "chilli mash" that was regrettably under my steak, which unrested, had bled all over and left black grease stains from an unclean grill was just the worst. You CANNOT microwave lumpy, under seasoned, play dough-like mash potato with bottled sweet chilli sauce and think anyone would like that. That's not cooking, not by a long shot and it actually angers me to think there are people working with food who would not only think that this something that works or is even palatable, but that they could repeat it all over dishes on the menu! Simply revolting.As for the Floor Staff, I don't have all that much to say, though I should mention the very loud doorbell that rings throughout the dining room when they are being called is obnoxious and disruptive. Not much care going on between them, no smiling, not a warming crew honestly a lack of eye contact when they spoke with us. We noticed immediately the lady that served us had a service cloth tucked into her trousers as she walked around and even when she first greeted us. Unhygienic and unprofessional.The young (very young) man that settled the bill was very monotone and inexperienced but I don't think he was much older than 14 so that's a given and a fault of whoever manages the floor staff and not necessarily of the young man. I regret that I spent a very rare chance long traveled to see a close family member in this establishment. We can't reccomed it and we will not return in future.

On arrival was abruptly informed twice, "you should have really booked" even though restaurant was nearly empty. As for the food, I'll just say that the platter starter & dessert was the best part of meal. I won't be in any rush back, I'll say again "I won't be in any rush back !

I have always loved Murphys on the green, especially for me being gluten free. However tonight I felt it was a little disappointing. Monday evening, we felt very “rushed out of the door” - meals were served extremely quickly and our starters were cleared up while my husband still had food in his mouth. I didn’t even have time to go to the toilet in between starter and main course. I ordered a steak, cooked rare, but it was obvious this steak hadn’t had the chance to rest as plops was on the plate and the steak over cooked slightly anyway! Another sign of being rushed away. Murphys have always done a wonderful gluten free sticky toffee pudding up until today when I was told “not a lot - ice cream just” when asking what gluten free deserts were on offer. Service wasn’t great at all and I wasn’t impressed tonight. It really let me down.

Brutal. Smoked cod was horrible, chicken maryland was like leather. And two young staff members were so disinterested. Never asked once were we alright. It was an expensive mistake!

We had a great meal and lovely service. The only thing I would request is that all staff coming to our table wear masks as two didn’t when I was there and it made me feel unsafe. Thanks

First visit back since lockdown for lunch, as we were tempted by the 50% off and had had a nice meal there before Covid. Only an A la Carte evening menu available and no lunch offerings, so very pricey, even with the discount. When I rang to book I was told there was no menu available online - if I'd seen the prices I wouldn't have gone at all! Staff were pleasant, but not wearing masks and the hand sanitiser at the door was empty. Party of 4 - one was happy enough with the meal (salmon), 2 other meals were average (burger and stir fry) but mine was very poor (Beef Strogonoff). It was really some tough bits of beef in a kind of horrible brown gravy, not at all like any Strogonoff I'd ever had before. I left most of it behind and although offered a replacement, it would have been out of synch with the rest of the party. Still charged for it anyway! If this was an attempt to get people back to eating out, it failed for us and we won't be returning. Sooo disappointed!

I was in murphys on Sunday with my family. We enjoyed our meals although there was a wait, which is understandable as they seemed busy enough, however a very young boy took our order and he was very dry and monotone, not what you would expect from a waiter. I chose to ignore this because as I said, the food was good. What really appalled me was seeing him behind the bar pulling a pint ! This is unacceptable as he looked around 13, very concerning.

Overall, very good. The pints of tennents were crisp and smooth, the glass chilled to a refreshing -12 degrees Celsius.Staff were courteous and responsive to our needs. The food took slightly longer than we would have liked to have been served. I remove one star for the poor bathroom facilities, a small child with bronchitis would be faster at blowing your hands dry than their bathroom hand dryers.

After placing our order at 4pm, it was about 30 minutes until finally received our soup starters. By 4:45 we enquired when our mains would be arriving, and were told abruptly that "it was coming". At 5pm, we asked staff yet again, and were told it would be the next one out of the kitchen. We had noticed several tables that had arrived after us had already getting their mains. Around ten passed 5, as we were getting ready to walk out, four of the meals finally arrived along with a mumbled apology, which really wasn't sufficient given the length of time we had waited. Side dishes then all arrived without the last two mains. We had to ask again about two of the mains. The gravy had sat so long that a skin had formed on it and several dishes were cold, and a chicken meal was bland and tasteless. Having finally got all of our meals, with hardly any apology for the time it had taken, the staff then proceeded to completely ignore us for the rest of the time, with no offer of further drinks or sauces, or anything else!!!! It was not that busy but even so, our simple orders could surely have been dealt with. The staff seemed inexperienced and socially inept and a child was delivering the dishes at one point! It was a humiliating experience and completely ruined our new years holiday. We will never dine there again.

I visited Murphys today with my family and the food was completely fine, no complaints but it seemed very chaotic, very understaffed! Something needs sorted as staff seemed quite Inexperienced or maybe too young. I was stressed watching!

I went to the restaurant a few weeks ago and there was no real problem with the food however it wasn’t great. My main issue is with the staff as I have some concerns that a few of the waiters especially a young boy who didn’t look old enough to work as there never mind serve drinks at the bar!

Have been going to this restaurant for the past ten years for family celebrations ranging from groups of 8 to 25 people. To date I have to say have never been disappointed with any of the food on the menu. Staff are more than friendly and go the extra mile to accommodate your needs. Prices are very reasonable and the proof of the pudding is in the eating in that the restaurant has always been busy whenever our family group was there.

Everything was beautifully decorated & the food was so delicious & so many compliments to the chef at that! This was our 2nd visit to Murphy's the first being only a few days ago, the food and service was so good we couldn't wait to get back. Keep up the the good work guys 😊😊
