Mr Todiwala's Petiscos in Tower Hamlets

Walk in , greeted and sat down , looked around and see a lot of character and great ambience , and then , I looked at the menu and just went backwards in joy ! Couldn't really make up my mind as just everything in it looked so mouth watering ...and it was , every little bit so well cooked by the Goan Chef , that you can taste every spice , every flavor . Don't just read this , give it a go . You will not regret it !

The Khaadraas Club is an approximately monthly special feast, usually at Cafe Spice Namaste at Roya Albert Dock. This special event was just that, rather than the usual Goan influenced Petiscos usually served, there was a fixed menu of varied Indian dishes. The meal was hosted by Cyrus Todiwala and Steven Schaffer who runs the restaurant and provides the chioce selection of Portuguese wines. The food and wine were very good and we had a great time.

What a wonderful evening we had last night. From the moment we arrived, the friendly welcome and help with the menu made us feel positive. The food, wine, port, was all delicious. Never had tapas like it. Enjoyed every single dish. We will be back.

Came for dinner as a couple, so pleased we did. We live locally and have always felt that Queens Road and some of the surrounding West Essex towns have too many samey Italian, Indian or Turkish restaurants. This place is something totally different - lovely, casual ambience and amazing tapas dishes and specials. The Venison on Sourdough was out of this world, so were the prawns with creamy slaw, the beef curry - amazing. The wine is also next level! The sort of cool place you'd find amongst trendy East London areas. Really hope it stays in town! Great service as well, completely attentive staff who made us feel relaxed, the owner took the time to talk to us about the concept and was spot on with his recommendations. Don't walk past it like we did for years, book! We need places like this to survive so we can finally have some variety with local restaurants.

Excellent Birthday celebration evening had at Petiscos. Wonderful food, excellent wines and very, friendly, personal, welcoming service. Steve & his 'team' really made it a special birthday evening for my Mum's 84th celebration. Thank you from all of us, we will be back soon😀

After having to postpone my birthday celebrations, it was great to be able to visit. A fabulous occasion ably hosted by Steven and his team. All of the food and wines were truly excellent.

Have been meaning to visit this local restaurant. Lovely food, brilliant vibe, absolutely the perfect red wine… all wines served by the glass. Will be visiting again SOON!

This is our first visit back to Todiwala’s Petisco after lockdown and it was perfect. If you go, you must have the appetiser (albeit a chunky one) of strips of garlic bread in oil with tapenade because it’s nearly impossible to stop eating it. We went for three meat and three seafood dishes each and that was more than enough. The prawn dumplings are absolutely exquisite and the special pulled pork was amazing. Todiwala’s Petisco is exactly what your favourite local restaurant should be.

We had an amazing dinner at this place, everything from food, wine to the service was outstanding. Happy to have found such a lovely cosy spot for nights out.

What’s not to love… attentive and engaging service is surpassed by the delicious, interesting and imaginative dishes from Goa and Portugal with a hint of Brazil if I’m not mistaken. If people only knew what they were missing. Wine advice and choice was superb. I’m going to go on a raining mid week rather than a perfect Friday night like last night. Prawn dumplings and fried fish cakes doesn’t do the cuisine justice. Enough rambling - go, you won’t regret it - reasonably priced too. DMcT

Dined at Mr Todiwala's Petiscos over the weekend and had a lovely time. Food was delicious, wine was high quality and the service was impeccable. From the warm welcome at the door, to the lovely chat we had with the owner at the end of our meal, you can feel the passion in the place. A local gem. I can’t wait to come back, and I will be recommending to everyone :-) thank you again!

Went there with a friend the other evening for our normal monthly outing which usually includes Thai, Indian or Turkish and we were blown away! The chef is excellent and magiced up some unbelievable tasty dishes - wine was very good as well (hic)! The place is completely different to anything else in the area! A thoroughly enjoyable evening - the even conjured up a take away for my friends little boy - how nice - Will be back soon Mr ex- rugby player!! Well done indeed (no need to chase me up next time)

I’ve walked past this restaurant on numerous occasions and never really noticed it. So glad we decided to try it out. Very different and unreservedly excellent in all respects to. Couldn’t recommend it more highly. Lovely ambience, good wines and attentive host / owner - Steve. Did tremendous and different from usual. You should try it.

This is such a little gem in amongst all the usual restaurants in the area. The menu is so different. Small plates of the most delicious Portuguese Asian fusion. The wine and drinks menu is really good too. The staff are attentive and the service was really quick. They did not rush us as a lot of places do. Can’t recommend it enough. Will be our go to local . Prices are also really competitive with dishes from 7 pounds snd wine at reasonable cost.

We enjoyed our dinner at this tapas style restaurant, the service was friendly and swift, the food tasty goan/portuguese, rissoes de camarao the highlight, their own IPA was fruity and paired well with the spices, excellent and locally sourced ice creams for dessert. Portions and prices are fair, 4/5 plates and desserts are enough for two people, we'll definitely go back to taste the rest of the menu!

A menu of small plates that allows the opportunity to sample various dishes of Portuguese/Goan fusion. Everything that we tried was excellent from the mixed spicy nuts and spiced olives through to desserts. Certainly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening, we started with the meat and cheese platter great selection of cheese, cow, goat and sheep.

Went for an early evening birthday meal. Staff were really friendly. The co-owner was really knowledgeable and we enjoyed listening to the facts about the food and wine. We chose two dishes each from the earth, land and sea sections of the menu and we were stuffed!

Attentive but not invasive service. Excellent food, plates look small-ish but in fact, are very tasty & totally satisfying, like Portuguese but Indian spices. Was advised 2 plates each would probably be enough, ended up 5 between 2 with olives & bread which was perfect. feels smart enough to enjoy but informal enough to relax. We sampled the on tap Superbock, but they have an impressive wine list ports etc. definitely next time.

My husband and I went to this restaurant after friends had recommended it to us and we were not disappointed. The service was incredible, friendly knowledgeable and attentive staff made our evening so enjoyable. I love the tapas style dishes and the wine is fantastic. Interesting place with an eclectic food of the Spanish/Portuguese and Pakistani cuisine. Quite tasty and although dishes come in small sizes, it proves to be enough when you choose few of them to share with a group. Worth a try!

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday with my family here recently . We all like Tapas so thought we would try the Portuguese variation served at this restaurant and were not disappointed- very tasty dishes , excellent Portuguese wines and delicious desserts. Service was impeccable and would definitely come back again for dinner , lunch or a chilled afternoon drinking good wine

Had a great dinner here tonight- hosted by the co-owner who imports the wines. All the dishes were delicious and the format suits a nice social dinner. A little pricey but we enjoyed a fair bit of wine and some lovely after dinner ports and ginjas. Great meal.

I thought I would try this place out.

As Goans living in London, we are always keen to find places that serve Goan (not indian) food and this was def a treat. I am obsessed with a good vindaloo and this was fantastic as were the beef corquettes and piri chicken. The wine recommendations were spot on, service exceptional (and made very special for my mums and daughters bday). Felt the whole experience was spot on and will definitely be coming back to sample the rest of the menu!

Expensive night for a few picky bits. Food was v Spicy and v small portions. Massive bill for what we had. Went for my friends bday, no effort was made to make her feel special. Wont go back to this posh cafe. pls give chocolates or mints with the bill. A complimentary drink wld of gone a long way. Wine was not great and over priced for a cafe . Owner was not happy when we asked him to pour the Wine! they need to decide what they are.

Who would have thought Portuguese/Goan food would be such a great combo! Every dish was flavour packed - difficult to pick a favourite but the peri-peri chicken was definitely up there. Delicious wines, fabulous service and a lovely vibe on Saturday evening. We will be back soon :)

The only good thing is the wine. Poor quality food, hair on chicken skin, everything else was rubbish. Cryus if you are proud to put your name to this, as a chef you are a joke. You will last a few more months till you close like every other restaurant thay trys to be more than it is. Find me a Goan that eats food like this.

What an amazing restaurant! The food, service and wine are outstanding. There are so many good local restaurants all offering Turkish/kebab style food, Mr Todiwala’s offers something different. We had a variety of dishes; squid rice, cod fritters, pork sausage - to name a few. The red organic wine was delicious. Can’t wait to visit again for one of the regional wine evenings.

If you are bored of eating always the same type of food, this is the right place for you. The wine menu is very extensive. The menu is based on tapas, so you can try different dishes. You might have to order three tapas per person, as the portions are not very big.

Lovely evening last night with husband and friends at this relaxed cafe style restaurant with a super Portuguese Goan fusion. Steve helped us through the menu and recommended four dishes per couple giving you a chance to try a few of the small plates - well not so small plates! My favourites were the Goan Seafood rice with black squid ink, Roast chicken thighs in piri piri masala and Molotov Ice Cream - salted caramel ice cream with honeycomb and hazelnuts - heavenly!!!! The bottle of red was an eye opener. Soft with a lot of fruit and light in colour and delicious called Quinta dos Capuchos Cistercium. We will be back.

I used to frequent this more regularly when they started out as a pop up in the garden of Cafe Spice Namaste in Whitechapel as it was closer to me (and I had an amazing Summer/Autumn working my way through the menu!) - I'm thrilled they now have a permanent place in Buckhurst Hill; even though it is further for me to travel it is still very much worth it.

Went to this restaurant with our kids. We were made very welcome, this is a relaxed cafe style restaurant serving Portuguese/Goan tapas. Every plate was cleared and we all thought the food was delicious.

We really enjoyed lunch here. The food is Indian/Portuguese tapas-style small dishes and everything we tried was extremely tasty. The manager/owner is very friendly and his enthusiasm for the food and the wines was great. They've gone for a very relaxed cafe style decor with plastic chairs, I can see what they're aiming for but if you're not going for smart and modern it perhaps needs something to make it a little cosier. Having said that we really enjoyed the food and would definitely recommend it. It's good to have something a little different locally and it deserves support. We will definitely be back.

I cannot fault our visit tonight - we were a table of six and tried nearly everything on the menu. Each dish was delicious and freshly cooked. The wine was fantastic. Excellent service. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

This is a nice alternative to tapas - a fusion of Portuguese and Goan Food which offers lots of different flavours to share. Quite a small but quirky place but very enjoyable. Service was good too and the Portuguese wine excellent. Pretty good value too bearing in mind the quality of the food.

I would best describe the food here as a sort of Indian/Portuguese tapas, my brother who worked in Brazil tells me petiscos can be best translated as “snacks”. There were some lovely flavours to sample, the cod fritters and pork vindalu being my personal favourites. We were recommended a nice wine too. Decoration inside was a little funky and perhaps a little cold. If there was one criticism I would have liked to have spaced the time between plates out a little more as we were sharing everything and felt a little rushed at times. All in all very tasty and a nice change of style.

Living just around the corner, we've seen this property be many things over the years. Each time you have to ask yourself 'how long will this last?...and what the hell where they thinking?

This cosy Portuguese/Goan restaurant is superb. The vibe is relaxed cafe/street food, but the dishes themselves are much higher-end than that - everything we had was absolutely exquisite. The manager was charming, and the level of attentiveness was just right - we weren't rushed out, the whole experience was really chilled. The bottle of wine we had was great, and the meal overall was good value. A brilliant addition to Queen's Rd for us locals, but I think people are going to come from far and wide when word gets out.

Had dinner with my partner on a Saturday evening after a very busy work week. It was just what the doctor ordered; Really impressed with the food which was delicious, superbly spicy and a refreshing change from the ‘norm’. Fantastic wine list, quick (but not intrusive or rushed) personal service and generally a lovely quirky and relaxed atmosphere for a leisurely meal. Highly recommend and we’ll be back very soon.

I would say this is a midweek place not a Friday or Saturday night, very disappointed more like a cafe, plastic chairs, tables and paper napkins, just never got the vibe, service was ok but dont get bringing food up for 3 people when their are 4 of you, so we had to keep cutting everything up to share, make sure you are out before 11pm as well, otherwise your drinks and plates are gather up and you are ushered out because that is when it closes, not a great night i am afraid

This is a Goan/Portuguese restaurant and "small plates" are the way it presents its (quite stunning) food. Very friendly service provided by the enthusiastic manager/owner and his team.

My partner and I had a very tasty tapas lunch, followed by a yummy dessert and lovely port! Good selection of wines... and fantastic coffee too!

This was my second visit to this welcome new addition to Queens Road., It is unpretentious & casual, offering fusion-style Portuguese-Goan food. The menu is structured tapas style rather than the more traditional starter/main/dessert that we mostly have here.

It is great to see a new restaurant in Buckhurst Hill and something that is not Turkish. The food and wine are great and the staff are very friendly, professional and accommodating. Look forward to visiting again soon.

First time visit to this restaurant and couldn't fail to be impressed. If you like your food tasty with a bit of spice, then this is the restaurant to visit. The owner was there and very attentive and aside from giving advice on what to try was also able to recommend which wine was best suited with the meal. It is a different concept in that it's tapas style eating but it deserves to succeed.

This is a gem of a restaurant! Fabulous, imaginative food that’s a delight to savour. This is not our first visit and definitions be our last (if we can get a table) This time is was an extra bonus having the maestro Cyrus Todiwala cooking. Just what the area wanted.

First time here with a friend for wine and tapas and catch up after work which this place is ideal. The food dishes was of good quality and tasty. The cheese and meat board was particularly nice. Service was good also and the owner/manager was very helpful with the wines. The reason for 4 stars is mainly the aesthetics of the place. I personally don’t like the way it’s been painted outside or inside as a bit basic cheap cafe type interior and I don’t find particularly inviting. I think it could of been done out a lot nicer.

A lovely friendly place for casual dining. It was very cosy last night the lighting was just right. Freshly cooked food with very pleasant flavours, the £5 spiced omelette starter was especially delicious. I'm not familiar with Portuguese wine but this was not a problem as the waiter allowed us little tasters before we ordered a bottled. I wish this new restaurant every success for the New Year.

Fairly newly opened, keen to give it a try and a cheeky school night out for our anniversary was the perfect opportunity. Wasn't disappointed. Funky interior design and warm welcome by co-owner Steve who's front of house style further engendered a feel of a friendly atmosphere that encouraged some cross table openness. Food style, presentation and taste all top notch. The selected wine I think was a little overpriced for the style of restaurant but overall good value for money. Loved the informality and tapas style of the dishes. Bottom line - looking forward to a return visit!

On the basis that we love Cafe Spice Namaste in Prescott St, the fact that Cyrus decided to open a restaurant local to us was "manna from heaven". We took friends to dinner before Christmas and it was just superb.

WE went there on Saturday what a lovely evening mine host Steve was on hand to help with the menu and wine.

We stayed at the hotel on the corner and passed this place a couple of times and went in for a change from the chain restaurants we were not disappointed the food ambience the host are all fantastic the wine was top notch we all ate something different 4 of us the food is amazing you must try this place we have tried to persuade him to open up a place in manchester sorry no Photos enjoyed the evening that much forgot but try it u won’t be disappointed

A wonderful evening spent at this delightful outdoor restaurant. Steve was a great host and the selection of wines and cocktails are excellent. Food was delicious with a large range of different petiscos style dishes and some fresh summer salads. A great evening!

Fabulous food, really good wines and outside. This pop up in the garden of Cafe Spice is Portuguese Goan in flavour and spice but also offers cheese and charcuterie boards. Try the tapas and wines. Good Super bock too. Go try while it’s there.

Stumbled across this place by chance, en route to a regular pub. Peering through the door not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. Not often to you find these places in & around the city and when you do, they're over priced or over full. Small enough to feel exclusive & for the staff to make a fuss of you. Despite being in a very busy area, it felt very quiet & peaceful in the garden.

I've been there twice now what a find its like a secret garden with flowers and lights in the evening.
