Mourne Country Hotel Restaurant in Newry and Mourne

Very nice hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed my stay.

The hotel is what it looks like a revamped old dance hall, but in saying that the staff are really friendly and helpful and the food was top class. The reception area bar , restaurant and rooms were very clean.

Just incredible hotel, nothing to say, reception of fantastic quality, hotel, very comfortable, very supportive, it's just magnificent.

I visited the Mourne country hotel 08/09/2024 at 15 0, normally it's wad a pleasure to be there. But today it was like a cattle mart, the staff was as lost today, asked for menu and had to ask again 20 minutes later, when ordering no Sunday rost or no vegetables and had to settle potatoes with potatoes.. and chicken.. I do like it here. But today 2 out of 10. Sorry guys.

We called in for a coffee and enjoyed a very relaxing stop. We have eaten lunch/dinner here on a number of occasions and always please with food. Great selection for my coeliac partner. Staff very friendly with prompt service. Very quiet due to location some way off A1 and on outskirts of Newry but worth a detour rather than the other over busy eateries around Newry Update aug 23 menu change has improved on what was already great food. Generous portions at reasonable price and menu different to many other places.

My husband and myself stayed on Saturday night 15th June. Although outside impressions were not great as the hotel could do with being painted - inside was a different matter. The reception area is tastefully decorated and the receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. The corridors are fresh & clean with newly painted walls, new doors on the rooms & fresh carpet. Rooms are spotlessly clean although a little dated and tired. We had dinner in the bar and the food was good and reasonable. Two main meals, a dessert & bottle of wine came to just over £60.the waitress asked if we wanted it to be charged to the room but as we had already paid for the room my husband wanted to pay the bill then. We were told we were to pay at reception. My husband paid the girl there who happened to be the same one who checked us in earlier. After a comfortable night's sleep we had a lovely breakfast (only complaint here was there was just too much French toast lol!) when we were checking out no one was on the desk but there is a box which states 'post room keys here'. As everything was paid I put the keys in the box & we left. This was Sunday morning at 11am. Late Tuesday morning I received a phone call from the hotel saying we had not paid the dinner bill. I explained how my husband had been told to pay at reception which he did & described who he paid. The girl said she would check up on it. It is now Wednesday evening and no one as come back to us to apologise for the mistake on their part. I am very disappointed. We enjoyed our stay at the Mourne Country and looked forward to returning but due to the way things were left I doubt that will happen. Up until then I would have given a 5* rating.

Magnificent staff. Pleasant otmosphere. Food and bar.excellent I've found on my travels higher graded hotel's not as good as the Mourne country. Full marks from me .

Clean and friendly helpful staff. The bed was like sleeping on a rock as it was thst hard. Breakfast was lovely a wide selection to choose from. I would receive this place. Yes I'd come back.

Very very friendly staff, very good breakfast..it's always clean and nice to have a teapot to make a good tea thank you..too bad it's missing a.small fridge otherwise you're perfect thank you....think about it fridge..I come from France tours to you

Busy road outside Hotel so Room was noisy, shower not working so couldn't shower before leaving told lady at reception. Breakfast was very good and staff were very friendly and efficient.

We stopped in for lunch, and the food was OK, but not as expected. The chips seemed to be frozen, and the fish was small. The curry was fruity, not spicy. And the beef bourguignon was a large block of beef served on top of the potatoes with the sauce over it.

stayed one night, all felt a bit tired although they were redecorating. Bar was very quiet and food was average

I've had a number of different meals recently and they have been very good. Service is quick and very friendly. Area for lunch has a good atmosphere.

Staff were amazing, just up the road and walking distant from Newry. Definitely go back.

This place is ok but the service is terrible I waited for 10 minutes at the counter to order something but they stayed at the 1 table and kept talking I wouldn’t recommend going here

Hadn’t been here in a while, just went to bar for a few drinks, the atmosphere was lovely, a girl was playing the electric organ which added to the ambiance. There wasn’t very many people about it, n it was quite cold. Staff were lovely and attentive

Had a beautiful meal at this lovely hotel.The staff are amazing ,friendly and create a lovely homely atmosphere . All compliments to the young waiters who are so efficient and kind. Briege was so hospitable and kind .Every hotel should have a Briege. Erin on reception was so helpful, professional and a delight to chat too. A hidden gem in Newry. I will definitely be back .Thank you ..

Don't usually do reviews but thought it was needed here... Very surprised at the place at first. Very well presented, new looking and very fresh. A lot of value for money. I've read mixed reviews but have to say there is nothing wrong with the rooms.. Now here's where the hotel dropped stars for me, went for breakfast this morning and a young girl came out to serve me. Very polite and friendly. Couldn't fault anything she did. But there was an older woman serving & collecting etc. This older woman was seriously sharp and blunt. She spoke to the girl like dirt. It was embarrassing. She wouldn't let her do a thing without criticism and barking at this young girl. Every time she entered the kitchen she would bark orders at the young girl totally oblovious to the fact everyone was seated just outside the door and could hear everything. Overall I would have to say the manager should take a good hard look at the staff. The experience really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I wouldn't return because of it.

fish wasnt cooked - served with some un identifiable disgusting white stuff - left it and ate out - saw someone elses food left as well so presume the burgers weren't much better!

Hotel muy agradable con personal amigable. Hay un montón de aparcamiento y ubicación conveniente para la noche - tapones o cualquiera que necesite una habitación limpia en las afueras de la ciudad. El restaurante no estaba abierto durante la noche de nuestra estancia, así que las comidas eran servidas en el bar poco usado. No carga lo que dice".

Si recuerdan el cruce a, entonces este no es disímil. . . . . Mucho más barato que el Hilton en Belfast o Crowne Plaza Dundalk pero en la entrada a la habitación quedó muy claro por qué. Sistema de aire acondicionado en wc que ruido tarda 10 minutos para ir a poner luz en si, no toallas de baño, sólo las manos. Televisión pequeña en la pared. Servicio de habitaciones para el desayuno era bastante bueno, aunque se les olvidó la leche. En general, bien para una parada pero no tengo prisa en volver.

Have yet to try the breakfast so cant comment on it. Hotel to me doesnt have a great atmosphere. Reception staff when we arrived were polite and professional but I didnt find them particularly friendly. We have been kept awake most of the night by some inconsiderate rowdy residents who I think were spoken to by night staff but continued with the carry on. There was no life about the restaurant or bar earlier which probably was the reason why these morons stayed in their rooms. Will definitely not back here.

6 of us stayed in this hotel on Saturday last (22nd October) We were veyr impressed with the hotel in general. Staff were very efficient and extremely friendly. Rooms were spotless and mattresses very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Very tasty and got exactly what we asked for individually. It was in the lounge as their restaurant is being renovated. This made no difference, very comfortable all round. Would highly recommend the hotel, very easy to find and we wil be back.

Went in on the off chance with my young family as the restaurant next door was full. Decor so old fashioned and no such thing as service with a smile. Awful long wait and food awful when it arrived. Child's burger was burnt and my own chicken meal had no flavour and lumpy mash with sauce slopped all over the plate. Waitress was so sour and clearly didnt want to be there. Better food would of been bought in the chippy next door

Wasn't sure what to expect here by some of the other reviews, but we were very pleasantly surprised. Food very nice and staff were very nice and accommodating - nothing was any trouble. Would definitely stop here again for food.

My wife & I stopped overnight at this hotel on Saturday night. All round the service was excellent & the receptionist "Natashia" was more than helpful. Would recommend this hotel for service & comfort.

I had the misfortune to 'eat' in this poor establishment today. We arrived at 3:05 and went to sit in an empty bar - only two other people were in the bar area. The lady from reception took our order, I ordered a prawn salad, the other orders were - two fish and chips and a BLT. When ordering the prawn salad I was expecting just that - a salad! We waited 55 minutes for our meal, considering the place was empty and order was hardly A La Carte the wait was long, in hind sight we should have left ! At no point did anyone apologise for the delay! When our food eventually arrived it was disappointing to say the least. My prawn salad was a bowl of lettuce with prawns on top, not even a garnish of a lemon, which I asked the waitress to bring. My mother and sister's fish and chips were not cooked - raw fish in batter! So although we waited 55 minutes the meal arrived uncooked! I found the lady on reception who dealt with my complaint to be very rude and raised her voice at one stage! She said the prawn salad was exactly as it had been described on the menu - lettuce and prawns - I said it should then be called a bowl of prawn cocktail! I also said the food was disgusting. At no point did she apologise for the long wait or the inadequate food! I did not pay for one portion of fish and chips and she offered sweets on the house! We couldn't wait to leave, it's two hours of my life I won't get back!!! Unbelievable service and response to a genuine complaint! I would strongly advise you to drive past this excuse for a hotel. Probably my worst dining experience ever!!!!!
