Mosob Restaurant in City of London, Westminster

I have absolutely no idea how or why this place gets good reviews - it's like they're all reviewing a different restaurant! The food here was simply terrible. Starters were not too bad, although the waitress struggled to understand the difference between 'hot' and 'cold'. Our table was under a bright white neon light that might have been appropriate for a nasty surgical procedure but was not exactly gentle and welcoming for a cozy dinner. Still, we could live with all that... except the main course was truly dreadful. I had a lamb stew which turned out to be bits of greasy meat swimming in some sort of grey liquid, and the veggie stuff was either tasteless or actually unpleasant. The guy that runs the place was perfectly friendly but nobody cleared away our (largely uneaten) plates for what seemed like an age and the waitress, though also friendly and smiley, seemed to have disappeared altogether. Nor was it cheap - nearly £80 for two - which was just a joke really. I love Ethiopian food, but this place - never again.

Loved it. Local to me. Friendly atmosphere. Food was delicious. We had the sharing vegetarian platter and the 3 of us couldn’t quite finish it. The veg samosa was sooo good. Next time I’ll order more of those. A really nice evening locally

I had been looking for a true Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurant in London for a while, with high quality food comparable with my experience in Eastern African countries. Mosob did not disappoint at all. Excellent food, great coffee, lovely athmosphere, and friendly service. We will be back!

My friend and I were going to Mosob. We rang a few days before to make a booking and gave our number. When my friend turned up for the booking, she was turned away as the chef hasn't turned up. The restaurant could have had the decency to call us in the morning and let us know to make alternative arrangements as their chef wasn't there and therefore they weren't able to open up. Instead we both made our 1.5hr journeys to the restaurant and they told us only when we turned up. We emailed the restaurant a week in advance to confirm they're open, they never responded to our email. We have to phone them to book. It all just seems really dodgy and I wouldn't advise anyone to go here, unless you just want to go see it and then go else where!

10/10 food and very friendly staff. Very easy spot to get to and would recommend to anyone. Also very generous portion sizes.

This restaurant is way more pricey than other Ethiopian restaurants in London. ,if you come solo you will not get good value for money , as in order to have a full meal (pancake, meat, vegs) you need to buy 2 dishes. This restaurant caters more for 2 people. Personally I won't be back.

I would say that the restaurant looks a bit worn. Overall nice food but the tables and chairs show their age. The food was overall good, but the lamb was not very tender. I will give it another try next time.

First time trying out Eritrean food, we had the meat set up menu with my family to try different plates it was really good! Tasty, generous portions and copious. Everyone was happy with it, definitely recommend it! Nice staff as well. All perfect.

The injera sharing platters (vegan, vegetarian or meat options) are superb. They say it is for two people but they are huge. It's easily enough for two, possibly even 3. The injera was soft and tasty and all of the dishes on top were great. They're relatively expensive (looking at approx. £30 for one of them) but the quality is definitely there. Beer options are: bottles of Windhoek (£3.95) or larger bottles of the excellent Kenyan beer (Tusker) at £4.95. The Eritrean honey wine is also worth a try as is the very nice tea served at the end (included in a couple of the meat injera sharing dishes). Staff were friendly although it's worth booking ahead. It's a small restaurant that fills up quickly!

I ate here recently with a friend on a Saturday evening. The food is good quality, and reasonably priced, as are the drinks (but it's a pity that the beer wasn't chilled). The service was OK and the staff were friendly. The tables are a bit small, though - the 2 of us were sitting at a table for 4 (supposedly), but it would have been a squeeze with 2 more people. I would accept prices that were a bit higher in exchange for a little more comfort.

Very friendly service! Decent atmosphere. My dish was pretty average though honestly. Peppers could have been roasted or stewed for texture and flavour. Seemed kinda just thrown together.

My first experience of Eritrean food and I was delighted to be part of a large gathering which added to the atmosphere. The delicious food is eaten communally - so make sure your hands are clean! A great selection of drinks and a full bar. Lovely restaurant with good decor and the owner and staff are absolutely wonderful. We all had such a great time ni-one wanted to leave!

I have visited as part of a group. They were excellent in looking after us despite our big number. Their food was so tasty and authentic. It was my first time at an Eritrean restaurant and this is a place were you fully embrace their culture at the table. The portions are very generous and on top of that the food is so tasty, rich and variate. I recommend to everyone and specially for the adventurous people that like to experiment new cuisines and flavours. The staff was very friendly and always ready to help and explain what you have in front of you. The owner is a great host that from the moment you come in you feel welcomed and at home. Come and be amazed by Eritrean hospitality, gastronomy, and bath yourself in the soul of the Eritrean cuisine.

Don’t let appearances fool you—the decor may be sober but it was so warm and they were very nice. The food was just delicious, we had a bit of experience of erythean food and we can say it is very authentic and delicious ! Perfect to bring family and friends. We will definitely recommend this place!

The friendly owner is very welcoming and accommodating. The food is tasty and filling and we enjoyed the honey wine and the Namibian beer. They lose a star because just under £40 for a large platter of Ethiopian-Vegetarian food seems somewhat expensive compared to other Ethiopian restaurants we've visited in London.

I was out and about, needed dinner and to get some work done. So glad I stopped here. Free WiFi, big table to put my laptop on, they gave good recommendations on the menu, and the food was absolutely delicious. Will defo be back.

I am an African, from West Africa. We were taken by a work colleague who had been to this restaurant before. On our way, this colleague (also an African) passed a comment saying that at the end of the day, some in the group may dislike him for the rest of our lives, he was right. The food WAS NOT GOOD! The bread thing looked like rolled up hand towels and tasted the same! The Chicken platter had little or no chicken. Everybody complained, and we were not all African! To add insult to the injury, the food did not come cheap. It was painful to pay so much for what was handed back to the staff to be binned! I suspect a snide remark was made when he asked whether we will like take away containers to take the leftover home. The service was painfully slow, the Jack Daniels was watered down. I will definitely Not be returning and will not be recommending this place to anyone. Good luck to those whose experience are different from mine.

Dieses Restaurant ist gut mit der Underground zu erreichen und bietet authentisches eritreisches Essen in gemütlicher Atmosphäre! Der Service ist herzlich, hilfsbereit und schnell. Das Essen schmeckt wie in Eritrea, was wir aus eigener Erfahrung beurteilen können. Auf Allergien und andere besondere Wünsche wird umfangreich eingegangen. Auch der eritreische Honigwein, Mes, hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Insgesamt ein gelungener Abend mit köstlichem Essen zu nach Londoner Verhältnissen moderaten Preisen.

This is a fantastic Eritrean restaurant. The injera is particularly good (and not acidic at all). The staff are warm and friendly and explain everything--even the technique for eating with your hands.

Ho provato uno starter fatto con chips di mais con una salsa vegetale sopra, discreti, un hummus accompagnato da fettine di carote e peperoni crudi e per finire un piatto di pollo piccanti no con contorno di verdure ed insalata da mangiare senza posate ma utilizzando un particolare pane arrotolato simil crêpes ma ne dolce, ne salato. Un po’ secco il pollo e nel l’insieme piatto non saporitissimo. Il tutto accompagnato da una birra africana 4,2^.

Had a beautiful evening down here with my girlfriend and could not have asked for a better host (that’s the best way to describe Daniel who tended to our every need and quirky request that evening). He really made every effort to make us feel at home and noticed that other families and couples there got exactly the same warm and attentive treatment! The food was great and plentiful and my only regret was that I didn’t have enough space to sample more of their delicious menu...... I’ll be back!! Cannot recommend this place highly enough!!

This is a hit if you like Ethiophan/Eritrean food! The place is mostly crowded, you'd better book in advance. The athmosphere is very Eritrean and very friendly. Many starters and main courses to choose from, with different levels of seasoning - hot/not hot, all of them very tasty. I choose a spicy Injera to begin with. As it was quiet, it came with youghurt. For main, I hade a mild, still very tasty chicken with fried vegetables. Traditionally you eat that with with your hands and soft baked Injera.

Visited as staying in area but would happily have travelled to find this gem. Chose the set menu with sharing platters - one vegetarian, one meat. Very tasty and extremely filling. Staff lovely - no issues with service speed as commented on in other reviews. Very accommodating and took time to chat and explain the origins of the food. Felt very authentic.

Prepárese para algunas esperas bastante largas, pero las cervezas africanas son buenas, por lo que es fácil pasar el tiempo. Definitely a place to go if you want to taste real Eritrean food in the centre of London.

I've been to Mosab with a friend on a weekday evening and had the greatest first experience with Eritrean food! We ordered Massawa which is a sharing platter for two with lamb, chicken and vegetables and it was really delicious (and very filling!). Hana our waitress, was extremely helpful and gave us a little insight into Eritrean culture and cuisine. The place is pretty small but it wasn't crowded at all. We really enjoyed the evening and the food. Would definitely recommend!!

Went to Mosob based on the reviews it had and proximity to where we stayed in London. The atmosphere and location was great, the family run restaurant was very welcoming and felt like home. They advised on what to eat, made sure we enjoyed the experience and it felt like Home away from home. Food was good too. The only down side is the enjera; since it is not made of Teff it looked and tested different in a good new experience way. But if you miss home in London or want to experience Habesha hospitality and food Mosob is the place to go.

So enjoyed the meal here, went with the vegetarian set menu, the mains was delicious, the spinach and paneer was sublime, the bread so spongy and delicious and loved the fact that you didnt have cutlery, the bread is cutlery. Injera sokas up all those wondeful flavours and just go for the Honey wine... The staff are extra friendly and give you little bits of info on culture and reasoning behind the food extra.. was it super speedy? No Did i care? not a bit.... a wonderful atmosphere showcasing so much which is great about africa - Highly recommend.

I visited here recently to have an evening meal with a friend. We ordered one of the sharing platters for £27.95 (not worth this money at all) and because one of us is vegetarian they said they would happily substitute one of the items (but then charged an extra £4.50 on top of the £27.95!!). The service was some of the slowest I've ever received and I visit a lot of restaurants. On the plus side the drinks were good and not overpriced. The restaurant itself is quite a stressful place to be as the tables are ridiculously close together and it was very noisy. It's not the cleanest restaurant either (and the toilet was even worse). I think this is overpriced for what you get and would take my money elsewhere next time.

The service was excellent and the staff is informative and friendly. I tried grilled lamb chop and it was delicious. I also ordered fresh mint tea and it was delicious. The food here is full of flavor, this is a great place for family style dining! I will definitely visit again!

Our hostess was wonderful and staff was sweet. However, the wait was extremely long considering how there was only two people working. Took about 2 hours to finish two person meal considering we only ate for about a 30 minutes of the 2 hours. Great food though!

The food was very nice. A little bit to much, but you can take the leftovers home. The people where very friendly and they give a clear and good explenation if it's the first time. Try the cocktails aswell, they are very good.

I wanted my boyfriend to taste Ethiopian food and I was curious to try this Eritrean one, as the food is quite similar. I loved it! Staff super friendly, beautiful atmosphere and decoration, and the food was delicious! It was the first time for my boyfriend but he absolutely loved the whole experience. Highly recommended!

Food is delicious and unusual. Service is exceptionally friendly. You have to be able to cope without cutlery which may not suit everyone but it does mean you get very intimate with your meal!

Para el cumpleaños de mi novio me decidí a probar algo diferente. Y es por eso que elegí Mosob. Era nuestra primera vez tratando de cocina de Eritrea y nos enamoramos de ella. El ambiente era relajado, el servicio era genial (nos dieron sugerencias, explicó las tradiciones y la historia tienen un libro sobre Eritrea en el bar). Recomendamos encarecidamente este lugar! No podemos esperar a volver :).

Great customer service and the food was exceptional. We got the 3rd option of the set menu, which was great value for money and definitely enough for 3/4 people! (Although stating 2 people) but I guess it depends on how much you can eat, we aren’t light eaters ourselves ;) I really enjoyed the virgin mojito and the Samosas, were fresh and crispy. I especially liked the chicken stew and beef stew had enough spice. I’d like to try the lamb next time.

Nos calentó y explicó muy bien el menú, tuvimos el injera con carne, verduras, y entrantes, todos los ingredientes estaban muy mezclados y equilibrados, welk pan suave y delicioso. El postre fue pastel de chokolate y "secados della nonna", muy dulce y agradable. Los precios son promedio para Londres. El personal es muy amable y servicial.

A mio parere, il vero valore aggiunto di un ristorante etnico, oltre alla bontà del cibo, è la capacità di far vivere un'esperienza autentica, che evochi le atmosfere del paese di origine, rispettandone i costumi tradizionali e riproponendone la filosofia originale. In questo senso, la serata trascorsa al ristorante Mosob è stata veramente totalizzante.

Si tratta di un ottimo ristorante eritreo: il menu (che spiega nei dettagli gli ingredienti, le intolleranze e i condimenti) è quello classico costituito da carne stufata, riso, verdure cotte e varie spezie, tutto adagiato sul tipico "pane" eritreo che alla fine funge da piatto, posata e companatico. Abbiamo provato quasi tutto il menu, essendo in tanti, e pur senza rimanere colpiti da qualcosa in particolare siamo rimasti soddisfatti di ogni pietanza. La cucina non è risultata nè pesante nè fastidiosa in termini di odori.

Been craving Eritrean food for months and Mosob more than satisfied it. Warm, comfortable dining area, generous portions, lovely hospitality and superbly flavoured food. Ate myself silly. Would happily return and recommend.
