Moor Hall in West Lancashire

Lovely meal and amazing service from first entering the old hall to finishing off with a cheese course. Our meal was full of lovely little surprises and touches. Our favourite dishes were the scallops, guinea hen turbot Highly recommend!

We stayed overnight for our wedding anniversary and were just absolutely amazed by the whole experience. Lovely staff, every single one, from being made to feel so welcome on arrival to chatting along with them all. Every one was so helpful and friendly. Beautiful room with everything we needed for our stay. The grounds are gorgeous to have a walk around and it was really interesting to see the kitchen garden where they grow all their own vegetables and herbs. As for the dining experience, there are no words to describe just how totally fabulous this was. We were invited to a light afternoon tea in the early afternoon, then another invite for pre-dinner snacks and drinks before the main meal. The level of expertise every single staff member has is just incredible. The variety and quality of every one of the many courses is amazing. A totally wonderful culinary experience, followed the next morning at breakfast which again was fabulous. Altogether, a truly wonderful stay and we’re already looking forward to a return visit. Thank you to everyone at Moor Hall.

Outstanding food and service. Genuinely lovely people serving food that's out of this world. We had a meal for my mum's 80th birthday and we couldn't have felt more special. The menu with the seal, the wines, that beautiful bread and butter. And the rest!? I can't even describe how amazing each mouthful was. Thank you all so much. Especially to Joe(?) Wow. Spectacular in every way. The food, the service, the rooms and overall stay. Plenty of little surprises along the way too (arrive before 5pm if you’re staying in the hotel!). If you can afford this (and it’s certainly an expensive trip) then it’s very much worth it.

This is our second visit. Amazing experience, the food is exceptional, the service is fantastic. The ambience and friendly, attentive staff are a joy. No doubt we will return.

This isn't just a meal, it is an experience. Treated my partner the tasting menu and wine paring for his birthday and we were blown away. Every dish was wonderful and we were incredibly impressed with the sommelier who made personalised wine pairings for us. I had a few dietary requirements (I don't eat fish) and they catered for this no problem. Everyone who worked here seemed passionate about their work and we had a wonderful evening.

The most incredible experience on my birthday, I cannot rate this restaurant and hotel enough. From start to finish you are taken on an extraordinary culinary journey. Unforgettable!

An inspired vision realised. A destination in its own right and a very special treat for an occasion.

Our first visit to Moor Hall - from stepping through the door to leaving it was an amazing experience. We were welcomed with a complementary mini afternoon tea by an open fire, then later on dinner with so many courses we lost track. They kept giving us another tasty morsel, including a snack actually in the kitchen which we visited en route to our table. We were greeted by the many friendly chefs, sixteen I think, some of the courses were served by a chef. Finally coffee was served back in the bar with a selection of sweet treats. Our room was warm and comfortable with a fantastic bed. Breakfast was a bit unusual as it was a set menu but still very enjoyable as we chose which bits of it we wanted to eat - couldn't have eaten it all. Specially impressed by receiving a boiled egg with the top cut round ready to lift off, egg was hot and just the right consistency Staff couldn't be faulted and we enjoyed our walk around the beautiful garden and grounds before we left.

This was an outstanding experience from the moment that we pulled up. Nothing was too much trouble for the attentive, knowledgeable and unfailingly considerate staff. It was a relaxed and informal environment where every care has been taken to ensure that the clients experience is front and centre. I booked this as a birthday treat for my wife who does not like a fuss or being the centre of attention and my only hesitation before booking was that it might be a bit pretentious and uncomfortable. I need not have worried as we quickly were made to feel totally relaxed and at home. The initial cocktails were outstanding, and the pace of every dish served was both prompt, delightfully explained and in every wonderful way an experience. Every mouthful of food was extraordinary, the environment, the visit to the kitchen, the table service, the drama of some of the dishes, the wine pairing. I cannot fault any aspect of this experience. Words really fail me in describing some of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. Perhaps the only minor thing that fell below the incredible standards of everything else for me was the Cornish turbot which I could appreciate but seemed to my taste to be slightly ordinary compared to the supreme quality of everything else. Desserts were extraordinary and after adjourning to the casual area after the main event we had a lovely and leisurely informal drink and petit fours. Yes it was expensive, but it was an adventure and, in our opinion, great value for money. We will book again for next year.

We have eaten in the Barn at Moor Hall previously but not in the restaurant. As we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary so we decided to book a room and sample the delights of the restaurant. We were definitely not disappointed. From entering the building to leaving next day was like floating on a cloud of caring service. The ambiance in every area was exceptional. We were invited for cake and tea once we had settled in which was served in the cosy bar next to a lovely, open, log fire. Later we went down to the same bar for pre dinner drinks and snacks prior to eating. At the arranged time we were taken through to the restaurant and a pre dinner tour of the kitchen to meet the Head Chef Patron, his 16 strong team in the kitchen and similar front of house team. The food and wine pairings were exceptional. The attention to detail superb. I am dairy intolerant which sometimes seems to cause havoc wherever I go. Not at Moor Hall, everything was perfect and not for one moment did I feel a nuisance. Yes it was expensive but it was an experience that I could become accustomed to. Very deserving of the 2 Michelin star standard and wouldn't surprise me if there was soon a third.

My wife booked this experience for my 45th birthday. When you add up the cost per person and then add up the wine accompaniment, it costs a lot. Perhaps for the many like us, a once on a life time treat. But what a treat!! From the moment you get out of your taxi to the moment you get back in, the food is not the only star here. The service is too! Highly trained clearly, but also with individual personalities, staff are exceptional. We don't say this lightly! Whilst I thought the monk fish was slightly bland,every other course and surprise treat provided was incredible. We even got to speak to the chef who was down to earth and thankful of our custom. What an amazing night. Incredible service, beautiful food and a lovely ambience. Thank you Moorhall. We will save up and come again one day. We highly recommend you do the same dear reader :@)

World class dining experience, matched with outstanding service, wine delivered by a warm and friendly team that were attentive knowledgeable without being overbearing. Everything about MoorHall screams attention to detail whether it’s linking the ginger pre-dessert to Ormskirk history or the local hand made crockery Moor Hall is at the top of it’s game On arrival you’re treated to tea served with home made pork pie or cake served in the lounge Dinner is one of the best. It starts with home made charcuterie and various snacks in the bar which includes an amazing black pudding snack. Then into the kitchen for your final snack We had the wine paring and sommelier and team provide a real insight into the wine in a language you can understand without patronising, what great pairing they were There is lots of theatre with many dishes finished table side. Our meal involved a wander round the garden, a quick whizz through the kitchen and a chat to chef, snacks in the bar and the main event in the restaurant. The meal was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly.

From start to finish a truly outstanding evening. Everything that is good about Great Britain under one roof. Yes expensive, however the best value for money evening, we have ever had the privilege of experiencing.

A wonderful dining experience, as ever, at Moor Hall. This was a celebration of my husbands retirement and a lovely gift from his colleagues! As usual the experience starts even before you reach the dining room with a selection of delicious snacks in the lounge culminating in a final snack in the kitchen with the chef patron Mark Birchall. The service is excellent from everyone and the sommelier is particularly informative. We chose the rarity wine pairing and it was absolutely delicious . The food of course well deserves all the accolades it receives: standout for me was the delicious oyster course, and the lobster which had the most amazing tomato garnish. My husband is not a big fan of the desert course but here they are a perfect finish to the meal. Highly recommended!

Had dinner and overnight here for a special birthday. Absolutely fantastic in every way. Food as you would expect is wonderful, staff friendly, welcoming and very efficient. The room was lovely, can't wait to go again sometime.

We stayed in the Medlar suite for an overnight treat for our 40th wedding anniversary and it certainly was. The room was very well laid out and comfortable, especially the bed. The grounds are lovely and there is an extensive kitchen garden you can wander around too, the whole place is incredibly well looked after. Dinner is a really excellent gastronomic experience from the lovely canapes in the lounge to the 10-course set menu in the restaurant, it was an absolute delight. The service was very professional. Breakfast the next morning was also delightful and different from even your usual 5-star hotel. A truly memorable experience, we will certainly return.

Everything about this restaurant with rooms is Exceptional. We were seamlessly checked into our suite which was truly amazing. Cocktails in the beautiful produce garden was so lovely , relaxing in the sunshine with beautiful drinks. Prior to sitting down for dinner we were invited to the beautiful bar where we were served numerous pre dinner snacks all of which were amazing. We were shown around the garden and then the kitchen prior to being seated in the gorgeous restaurant. The food and wine that followed was all out of this world ….. We cannot praise it highly enough. As well as the amazing food the other “stars of the show”were the staff. All extremely polite and engaging, they definitely made our evening memorable. A special thanks front of house staff Joe , Chloe , Owen and Matt the Sommelier. We can’t wait to visit again in the winter months.

The 4 course tasting menu was superb from start to finish. The staff were very attentive from the moment we stepped through the door. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit today, and we will return.

Upon entering the grounds of Moor Hall I was immediately whisked to a world of pleasure. The immaculate walled garden is abundant and beautiful. The staff are welcoming and, like Mark Birchall himself, unpretentious. The Mulberry suite is quite appropriate to the area of the country I think? Clean, spacious and enough sparkle to surprise me. The bathroom is beyond compare. Moor Hall offer the best ingredients available in an unbelievably delicious manner. Once we descended to the bar to begin our foodie journey the exquisite snacks began to arrive in quick succession. Everything at Moor Hall is done with precision from the escorted arrival to our table, via yet another explosion of taste, to the trolley of abundant sweet treats wheeled out to accompany coffee. It was such a pleasure to watch the calm kitchen, overseen by Mark B, with chefs working so superbly as a team. My standout dish was the Paris Market Carrots, but all the food was bursting with fresh, exciting flavour. Breakfast was a broad selection of dishes, once again served with friendly charm. Was it just luck that the sun shone, the goslings swam in unison on the glistening pond as we walked off breakfast and Mark Birchall had a relaxed chat with us in the car park as we left? Possibly. All part of the magical experience of Moor Hall.

Yet again our visit to Moor Hall leaves us wanting to book again! On this occasion we visited with our daughter and son in-law who generally eat in Nando’s and the likes. Well I am pleased they were blown away by the quality and flavours of each dish. There is real drama delivered to the experience which for me is unique, starting in the lounge Adam then walks you through the garden with amazing enthusiasm leading int the outstanding kitchen. There you see the most skilled of hands preparing the delicate detail that sets this place aside from others. At the end of this mini tour you meet Mark himself, not only one of the most humble of guys but also incredibly enthusiastic to ensure the evening is perfect for you. A final pre table treat awaits that I can only describe as flawless - not only on the pallet but also to the eye. Still your evening hasn’t really begun! Arriving at the table you are met by the very Wine Nic has helped you choose when navigation the extensive list of personally picked gems. Then the fun continues- dish after dish of more exciting surprises of flavours. Just incredible. If there was only one place i was allowed to visit again in the whole world among the millions to choose from - I would be sat at Moor Hall. We took on the offer of the £28.50 lunch time taster! We arrived early, there were some tables free outside, they remained that way, but we were told not available! The food was excellent. We chose both options for each course & swapped half way!...

Oh wow followed by oh wow again. Fantastic food and wine; great atmosphere and superb staff. Menu well constructed. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Deal with allergies superbly. No wonder it has the reputation that is has achieved.
