Best Indian Restaurant in Newmarket, expensive, but scrumpy.

The food is fantastic. The Ox cheek especially stands out. The service was impeccable from start to finish. With the space they have to work with (rather small) the setting has an excellent atmosphere. Where is that 6th star!

Lovey meal, great service. Just to let you know I left my credit and bank cards in a card wallet on the table by mistake. The resturant rang me and told me . As I had left Newmarket and live in London, they posted my cards to me signed for. So trust worthy. Thank you Montaz. Ramadan mubarrick .

It's alot of food and I highly recommended the lamb.

Always go here for our takeaways and occasional meals out. Very friendly staff, great service and food is top notch. Highly recommended. We always have chicken tika korai.

Haven’t had for a couple of years until the other night. Amazing and delicious! The chicken dishes were so tender and full of flavour. Can’t wait for the next meal!

Lovely food, I had Rogan Josh which was full of flavour but not spicy at all. Only down side was very expensive water for the table. Can't complain about anything else, service was great.

Walked in, pretty empty - it is a small restaurant. Told to sit in next to a draughty, opening door ( on a cold November night) when almost all tables were empty. Asked to sit elsewhere and told the table I pointed to was booked for 5 people.....with 4 chairs! We walked out.

What a fabulous Indian restaurant! We visited here 17th September 2022. The menu had some spectacular options, and the quality of the food was excellent! The attentiveness and care of the service was second to none!! The ambiance was perfect! Thoroughly recommend this first class restaurant!

I have been to this restaurant a few times, and have never had a poor meal. The food is flavoursome, and not the run of the mill Indian fare. The wait staff are prompt but you are never made to feel rushed to making a decision. They are also knowledgeable and will help you. Highly recommend

I cannot fault this great restaurant, the food just tastes amazing, the salmon came sizzling to the table, perfectly cooked, melting in my mouth with the most amazing blend of spices. Lovely choice of sides all expertly cooked & served by attentive staff. The only sad fact is when your plate is empty & you wish you could start all over again - delicious. Thank you Montaz.

Hand on heart,the best Indian food I've tasted of being on this planet for 52 years,everything was perfect from the starter through to the sweet,even the popadoms where fantastic,can't wait for my next visit!

From all mains, Tika Masala dish was the top scorer on the table, never had it soo good. All food well presented and tased top quality. Service is amazing and fast.

We were lucky enough to secure a table at last night's "Flavours of East India" a one-off event showcasing the cuisine of Michelin trained chef Saurav Nath. The menu was delicious, well balanced & gave a great cross-section of dishes. The Railway Aloo Chop Chat being a particular favorit. The staff were also excellent without being obtrusive & ensured that the evening ran smoothly. I have already suggested to friends that we attend the next one!

The food was delicious and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The only suggestion I would leave is to make the menus with bigger writing because the lighting is low as it should be, but the menus are hard to read! Loved it, will go again and highly recommend.

Great curry and staff after a days racing

Well what can I say one of the best Indian meals i have had in a long time. Very friendly and a warm welcome would recommend to anyone. Will return the next time I'm up that way.

Top rated Indian menu, not the average standard dishes but more adventurous sophisticated and tasty dishes in the style of haute cuisine. I am a big fan of Indian food in general but this place is a cut above. The staff are friendly and attentive and the tables are placed comfortably apart bearing covid in mind. Prices a little higher than I am used to but well worth it. A very enjoyable experience, I would definitely visit again next time I come to Newmarket.

Charged me £18 for a king prawn dahnsak. Lentils were not properly cooked either and were hard. Had to buy rice on top which means curry and rice is nearly £22!!! Tasted nice but sorry that is just extortionate for a takeaway.

Outstanding restaurant from the impeccable service to the beautifully presented and delicious food. A refreshingly out of the ordinary menu with regular standard dishes also covered incredibly well.Worth going out of your way to experience.

Struggled to find a good Indian, would recommend highly.

Fantastic! Probably the best takeaway food we have had, full stop. Yes, it’s expensive, but every single dish we had was out of this world. Even the ‘staples’ like biriyani and the butter chicken were remarkable. So worth the modest premium.

Excellent food and excellent service. Slightly different dishes that I haven't seen before. I had a dish with Lamb chops and ginger and chilli rice and Both were delicious.

I enjoyed the food here, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. The venison was excellent. The raspberry dessert was a bit sloppy and needed something to give it a bit of crunch though. We felt it was very expensive though. It cost just over £100 for three people, with only one beer and one Coke on the bill, and no starters other than poppadoms. Similar meals elsewhere would probably be in the £50-£60 region. This is the only reason I probably wouldn’t return.

Booked a table , lucky we did because it was busy. Good menu with dishes I hadn't seen before aswel as the normal curries. Dines chosen a long with a nice bottle of wine. Portion sizes were perfect and the food was excellent. Staff were friendly . The only thing that let it down was the service, it was abut slow, guessing because it was busy! Very good value and very good food.

From the warm welcome to the equally friendly ending to my meal, the whole dining experience was perfect. I went as a solitary diner as part of my birthday week celebrations under COVID19 guidelines. Instead of Florence, I found myself trying out this well established dining haunt for the first time and could not believe that I had been missing out on such an amazing dining treat. The food was served like dishes of art creations and tasted exquisite; layers of spices, mellow tangs of citrus and the most out of this world colours. I even tried a glass of Indian Chenin Blanc which matched my food brilliantly. It was recommended by the waiter and he was proved absolutely right. The restaurant is completely COVID19 compliant but not in an obtrusive manner. I highly recommend this restaurant and shall return to di e there soon.

Out for a Meal with 4 mates. What can I say.... Food and service was excellent.My starter and main course were delicious, full of flavour with a balanced amount of heat. The Cobra lager flowed well and accompanied the great food and company.Revisit is a must and I recommend you give this restaurant a try you won't be disappointed.

We have dined here since Montaz has re-opened. It’s very clean and Covid secure. My Mum has developed a liking for the guinea fowl, it is excellent indeed. This last time I opted for the slow cooker ox cheek and opted for some extra chilli to spice it up. It was a really good option. I do enjoy the goat and potato curry and the beef chettinad too. It’s always a good meal at Montaz

I decided to dine out the week after my birthday because my celebratory holiday had been cancelled & when on holiday I would dine out each evening. I chose the Montaz this evening and I was totally overwhelmed by the courteous service when I arrived. The restaurant is COVID-19 compliant to the highest degree. It is an elegant dining room with the tables well spaced to a achieve safe dining experience. I chose calamari pakora with samphire, passion fruit dressing and lemon grass mayonnaise; which was unbelievably good. Light, spicy and utterly delicious. My main course was monkfish tandoor with pilau rice and saag aloo served with the most wonderful kaffir lime, lemon grass, Nilgiri korma sauce. Having never tasted wine from India, I chose Chenin Blanc Maharashata from Sula vineyards. It was a perfect food match. I cannot recomnend the Montaz enough. It is that good.

First visit to this restaurant the other day and it did not disappoint! The Covid secure set up was really good, tables spaced out and very clean, the staff were very friendly and the food was delicious. I have food intolerances and they were very accommodating!Would definitely recommend to friends and family and would return if in Newmarket again.

Food not so tasty have had a lot better

We have had several takeaways from Montaz some delivered and some picked up. The food and service has always been first class and by far the best Asian food that I’ve tasted!

We came to Montaz for the first time on a Monday night. It was busy but social distancing being observed, all the staff in masks/ shields etc and the food was delicious. Crispy Kale Chat and the north Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken were both particularly good. Initially we thought the portions looked small but actually there was a lot of meat in the dishes we had so it was plenty. Would definitely recommend

This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. The food is really really good. Delicate tastes, well thought out dishes. The staff are very friendly and helpful. it’s an absolute hidden gem in Newmarket and would thoroughly recommend anyone to go the extra mile and travel the extra miles to visit it.

This is a significant step up from your standard Indian restaurant. It is a bit more expensive, but the food is excellent. We had Goat & Potato Curr, Butter chicken, Lemon & Chilli Rice and Ginger & Honey Naan. It was all great.Good service too. Very accommodating and good safety protocols during Covid.

Extraordinary! Wow ! Incredible! Best meal we have had, to say this was a meal that made myself and my girlfriend question what wizardry was happening in the kitchen is an understatement, this is not just the best , but by far the beat meal we’ve ever had, this is a restaurant that I would drive 100 miles to eat in. I can’t recommend it enough. The flavours took me to a place of wonderment, the service was perfect, I kid you not this is a true 10/10, it should have not just one, but many Michelin stars.

Authentic, flavour packed and classy....Sums up my experiences in just a few words. Consistently delivering great food, with an equally great service. The menu also has some interesting surprises, as well as all the dishes you would expect. I also love that they modify dishes to suit tastes. My go to when I’m craving some spice!

Simple takeaway ordering system. Ready on time. Very good food. Only dropped a star because they cooked the wrong curry and my partner doesn't like coconut. But on the plus side, I got two curries.

Spot on absolutely lovely meal, stayed over in Newmarket after lovely day at Duxford and revived a few restaurants before booking Montaz and can honestly say this is the best Indian meal we have had in three yrs could not fault would highly recommend. Butter chicken a must but all the food was lovely.

We have now been here 3 times and each time it has been really lovely food. If you fancy an Indian meal which is a bit different to the norm then you will enjoy here.Although quite expensive, it is definitely worth a visit. The food is really tasty and the lamb chops are great :). I have also had the scallops but felt that they were too expensive for just 2 scallops, so wont have them again! The duck starter is also really good.There is a wide selection of mains, including venison! All that we have had has been good.We live 30 mins drive from here but it has become our friday evening place to go.We would definitely recommend it.

This is a special place. The food was beautifully cooked and looked great. The dining experience felt high end but without feeling pretentious. A special mention goes to Naj who looked after us. He is a huge asset. A likeable guy who knows everything about his menu. Well done guys

Looked forward to this as I had heard some good things about this restaurant. Ordered mixed starters for 3 which were lacking both in quantity and in taste. All the items were hardly seasoned and verey bland. HAd goat curry for main course which was very fatty and again had very little in the way of spice etc... I get the fact that this is a ';modern' innovcative take on INdian food, but I left reeally disappointed. There is a much better Indian in Newmarket ( or there was as it now seems to have changed it's name'

Lovely restaurant with slightly more upscale choices compared to your typical Indian restaurant. Our Cobra beer came in branded colorful glasses, and the food/service was excellent.

Really good! All the meats were awesome. Didn't seem like they'd ever been frozen, very tender and flavorful. Great value for the quality as well. Will definitely return.

Firstly the choice of dishes was a welcome change from the standard dishes you see in most Indian restaurants. We shared the Chukundari Duck, Tandoori Monk Fish, Lamb Handi Biryani and Ginger and Honey naan, and was blown away by the flavours and quality of the food. Beautiful presentation. Biryani was comforting, and the lamb fell apart and melted in the mouth. Ginger and honey naan was a revelation. The standout was Chukundari Duck which was the best dish of any cuisine I’ve eaten in a long time. Previously had the butter chicken which is always a firm favourite.

As a veteran of Indian dining of over forty years i went to the Montaz after reading the reviews.Off to a bad start when the poppadoms all broken up .ordered garlic chilly chicken ,which was poor and tasted of naga and chicken was dry .My wife have a tandoori salmon dish ,but was charged £4.50 for a small green salad .The whole meal was over priced and not as good as any of the Indian restaurants in Norwich where i live .
