Great place with great food,delicious! Have been few times,always delighted! Thank you for this lovely evening! We will be back over and over again!

What a shame. 10 of us had a lovely birthday meal. Many of us commenting how we would definitely go again. Could not fault the meal which cost us £332 at the cash only restaurant. Sadly we will not be going again due to them charging £20 to unwrap a birthday cake, put a few candles on it and bring it to the table with paper plates and a knife. We were not told of the charge when we gave them the cake and candles it just appeared on the bill. When we challenged politely the man was polite saying he was sorry we felt that way. The Same cannot be said for the woman who was extremely abrupt and rude saying it was £2 a head and asking whats your problem! The problem is they were greedy! We don’t mind paying but £20 for 2 minutes work was greedy. And we effectively served it ourselves. The sad bit is they would probably have had more than £20 in tips had they not ripped us off with so the called cake service. Obviously it has cost them our future custom and recommendations!

I recommend this restaurant it’s very cozy and the food was really fresh and delicious! Definitely will come back! Handsome cook😉

Have wanted to go to Montanaros for a while and we finally got there for date night! It won't be our last visit either. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The food was outstanding with everything tasting great. The restaurant is small which makes for a cosy atmosphere, perfect for date night or a meal with family. Thank you for a great night and wonderful meal.

Well , as People know about Me , in Swadlincote, I am very Judgemental and often look for something to Complain or pick Fault with, "a bit of a Victor Meldrew" , However I Honestly have to Say, I could not Pick fault on anything at This Restaurant , The Food ,The atmosphere was, 100% perfection I will definitely be returning here .Thank you For a Beautiful meal and a wonderful evening .thank you ,Boz

Excellent food and really friendly staff. It is a small family restaurant so don’t expect a restaurant chain experience, this us much more friendly.

The food is truly wonderful with large portions (too large). A smaller portion at a reduced price would be better. The decor is akin to a transport cafe, for those prices I expect pleasant surroundings. The staff are too friendly, the gent in particular, I just want to order food not share my life story with you. Made my friend feel very uncomfortable. Shame the decor and lack of Italian background music let it down.

I absolutely love the food, the owners are so thoughtful, funny and very welcoming. It is the second time I have been there and the food both times was amazing but I do recommend the sea bass it is succulent and the only meal I have cleared my plate in about 6 month the sauce is beautiful

Sad reflection that what purports to be a genuine Italian restaurant does not live up to its image. Although pleasant polite service the food on this occasion was mediocre at best, no italian music to help you relax to instead just modern music blaring out, expected a more atmospheric experience especially for the price, will really think twice before contemplating dining here again. Disappointing evening out 5/10.

I was finally able to take my mother for her birthday lunch - planned for March 2020 and cancelled thanks to covid. The owner / chef had a large party on the evening so wasn’t going to open for lunch. They did however just for my mom so she could enjoy her long awaited birthday Italian meal! Food and service wonderful as always and as I was too full they kindly boxes up the leftovers so it did me for my evening meal too! Can’t recommend this place enough and can’t wait for the next meal!

Not visited for quite a while! No specials! The most disappointing thing was the lack of choice my husband ordered filet dolcellate, but was told no fillet only sirloin (still got charged for fillet though), & only frozen chips & salad available (not roast veg as advertised) We also heard the waiter saying that my husband had just had the last steak! As for the waiter, a little bit scruffy, shorts & trainers to serve food - very unprofessional! & got fed up of waiter apologising & calling me Miss (first time is fine, but after 1/2 dozen times it’s a bit jarring!

My partner and I came here for Valentine’s Day and we had a great time. We both had starters and a main with two sides. The food was amazing. I had a starter of fresh tomato soup and a main of linguine carbonara. My partner had prawn salad and a main of linguine de mare. With sides of garlic bread and fries. We definitely want to come back and try other items on the menu. I’ve already recommended Montanaros to our families. We look forward to coming back.

Me and my Nick went to Montanaro's on Friday evening for the first time. I can tell you, we will be back! The food was outstanding. To start, we had the garlic mushrooms and chilli prawns, followed by Linguine da mer and pollo alla cremo. Lina, the restaurant owner, certainly knows how to cook! Wow! Those flavours!!! This restaurant truly is a little gem. Emma, the waitress is simply joyous! We absolutely loved it and can't wait to revisit. Thank you so much, Lina. You should be so proud of your amazing little restaurant ❤❤

I was invited to a birthday party at Montanaro’s Swadlincote. I was greetedby a pleasant young lady who showed me to my seat. This restaurant specialisesin Italian food and there is a lovely aroma wafting through the dining area. I did not have a starter but just ordered the Lasagna and it was really nice and a large portion. For my pudding I had the Orange gateau with ice cream. Also extremely nice. This restaurant is a little gem in Swadlincote and the cuisine is really good. Thank you Montanaro’s for a lovely meal and for making the occasion so successful!

To the comment below, I was in with a group of my friends that night and i just want to say dont believe everything you read on here!! The service was absolutely amazing, the staff was out of this world and the food, well was out of this world also, you can tell everything is cooked from fresh and with the fact there is only 2 of them makes it even better, as i know i wouldn't be able to do what they do for the amount of people they get in there of an evening... The lady which has commented may i just say was not waiting an hour and a half at all, they came in at gone 8pm and by this point they were extremely busy! And they were informed there was going to be a wait but by the time they were seated and drinks order taken and food order taken the food was coming out at 9pm, i think it was absolutely disgusting the way you stood up screaming and shouting demanding things to them when they were doing the best they could, and the fact that other customers had to stand up as they thought your husband was going to do something when he got in the young girls face behind the bar, screaming and shaking with anger! It was disgusting the way you behaved and the fact your husband is known to be a kickboxer and is getting in a young girls faces screaming at them is diabolical!! Weve been coming for years and if this establishment was so bad she wouldn't of been here for 10years!! And to your poorly son who may i add was at least aged 19+ who had tonsillitis and hadn't eaten a single thing all day how is this there problem! You shouldn't even be bringing him into a family run restaurant with an illness like that coughing and touching everything spreading his germs! You walked out and slammed the door that hard you nearly shattered the windows and unfortunately fell over outside! Which i think is karma tbf with the way you and your husband conducted yourself in there! Ill definitely be booking in again soon as all of you are amazing dont let these sad people who like intimidating young woman bother you! Pre booked. Went down promptly. Greeted to a small room with 5 tables crammed inside. Chairs back to back. I had to stand to allow the waitress through with meals. No aircon. Door closed. HEALTH AND SAFTEY CONCERN.

This is our favourite restaurant in the area. The food is fantastic and is always served in an attentive and friendly manner. The small bistro style setting is great and our whole family love to eat there. The cash only thing is definitely a pain but worth it for what you get.

We had a great meal to celebrate a number of family birthdays. The food was excellent and the staff couldn’t be more accommodating. It is ‘rustic’, but good value, good portions and a selection on the menu.

So having tried to get a table multiple times, we finally got a table! The food was delicious, husband said steak was the best he had in a long time, my pasta was so huge I got to bring it home! Waitress was lovely, however the restaurants only downfall is that it only accepts cash, so I had to go out to the cash point over the road, surely with today’s technology it would be good to accept credit/debit cards!

This is a brilliant restaurant, I come here often as when I am in the mood for a good Italian I know that a trip here will not leave me disappointed. Our last visit was for my 25th birthday, and it was a very enjoyable evening.

After repeated unanswered phone calls to book, my wife managed to contact them througth facebook and her 40th birthday was booked and confirmed.

Our good friends, Greg & Judith took us to this gem of an Italian restaurant today and we’ll be talking about our experience there for a long time to come.

From the moment you enter this bijou restaurant you realise you are in for an authentic treat. The aroma makes the mouth water. A garlic bread starter to leave room for the creamiest of Carbonnaras or the Spag Bog, washed down with a bottle of house red. Service attentive, great food, reasonable prices - we will be regulars.

We came here for Thursday lunch service, the food was very good and the wait was short. The owners were very friendly and welcomed us when we arrived. Each table is nicely decorated with a pot of flowers and candles. I would definitely recommend this restaurant

Went to Montanaro's last night as it was my husbands birthday and he wanted to try it out.

We thought we'd check Tripadvisor for somewhere to go (having lived in the area 10 years and running out of places to try) and we are so glad we did! I'd walked past many times and not even noticed it before.

This is a hidden gem in the heart of the town. Fantastic food, service excellent & always made very welcome. House wine lovely. We booked a table for two ended up meeting some people we knew outside who joined us. A lovely evening had by all.

Today I had a lasagne and there was a young couple in the restaurant, they seemed to want the food for free, complaining about the food being bland, me and my friend both had the lasagne and in no way was it bland, they were young and claimed that they were going to put it everywhere, please don’t believe everything you hear.

We visited late on a Friday evening, about 9pm. Everyone very friendly and accommodating, food was lovely. We will return!

We have been here a couole of times in large groups. Each time we have had a pleasant evening, the staff are really helpful and are really pleased to assist and for your business. We will go again, worth a try as inexpensive too.

This was the first time we've been to Montanaro's, and I can only say "It was great" the lady in charge was really friendly and attentive without being too intrusive, the service was quick and the food was good and hot, and all freshly made, the portions were good and we could only manage one sweet between the two of us, the wine was good and reasonably priced, the pasta dishes were well cooked and the sauces delicious, the garlic bread was to die for. Do not miss out on this little gem, nowhere in Swad to beat it!

Had a lovely evening out with my friends. We were made very welcome. Very friendly staff. Food was delicious. I could tell straight away it was a fresh made dish. I enjoyed every bit of it. I had lemon cheesecake for dessert. Oh my life, it was heaven. The lady serving us had made it herself.

Thanks to reviews on Tripadvisor we found ourselves heading to Montanaros. It doesn’t look much kerb side but warm cosy and friendly in the inside. It worth trusting the reviews of others as the food was very tasty. Waited 45mins for food but totally worth the wait. My picky 9year old even stated it was possibly the best pizza she has tasted. Thumbs up £ 66 for 4 meals,beer and 6 soft drinks.

My wife and I have been talking about visiting for ages and yesterday we finally got round to going in. It wasn’t busy but were advised in future to make a reservation. We were looked after from the moment we walked in until the moment we left and we wanted for nothing. Being an Italian we both ordered a pasta dish and was told that if we couldn’t eat it all then it could be boxed and we take it home. All in all it was an enjoyable experience and will definitely be visiting again

Have been here a few times before and have never been disappointed. The place itself is understated and intimate letting you have a quiet meal with your family. We went to celebrate a family birthday and once again it met our expectations. The food is cooked perfectly and subtly flavoured. My mussel starter was so good that I ate the remaining sauce like soup. The kids had spicy prawns followed by home made lasagne and home made pizza and my wife and I both had fillet steak. One medium and one medium rare - both cooked perfectly and served together. I commented to my wife that the last time I was there I said that it was the best steak I had ever had and this time I could say the same. Looking forward to my Christmas meal there !!

I visited here with my partner and was very impressed. I've seen a few reviews complaining about the size of the place / decor but that did not affect my experience in the slightest and I enjoyed the fact it's a small intimate place with not too much hustle and bustle. We both ordered pasta and had sides of garlic bread and fries, and it was very tasty! You could tell everything was homemade and it was some of the best Italian food I've ever tasted. The bill came to £43 including 3 alcoholic drinks. I spent over twice as much at San Giovanni last week (which everyone raves about) and I much preferred my meal here. The service was great too, very friendly and attentive. My only minor complaint would be no card machine (but there's a cash machine opposite). Will be returning and would highly recommend.

Yo no sabía este pequeño lugar existía y me alegro de haber descubierto. Nos fuimos para mi comida de cumpleaños esta noche. Incluso antes de la comida llegó, se podía oler lo bueno que iba a probar. Mi padre dice que él recordaba cómo volver restaurantes en la calle están en Italia. Los platos de pollo eran excelentes, siempre preocuparse de que se seca pero no era en lo más mínimo. Primera visita anoche me han pasado aquí muchas veces y siempre pensé que debería entrar bien anoche lo hicimos. Qué sorpresa que sólo tenía una pizza, pero las comidas más grande placa pinta y olía delicioso. . Volver a la pizza. finas frescas y calientes como una verdadera pizza italiana. El personal servicial y no podía hacer más por ti. Un restaurante realmente bueno local.

Family run Italian that serves good honest home cooked Italian food. Is it entirely authentic? Probably not. But it is very tasty and good value. My only complaint is that they seem to open when they feel like it. You can turn up and find them shut (presumably if they arent busy they just close up) which is quite inconvenient. Like I say foods good though.

Visited last night for our valentines meal. Tables etc all decorated, there isn't anything bad I can say about this place. It really is the best restaurant in Swadlincote, the service is great, the people are lovely and the food is second to none! If I wasn't trying to lose weight for our wedding we would be here every single week.The food last night was, as normal, incredible. Literally the best meatballs I have ever had and wish I could have lina cooking all my meals! We will back yet again soon!

Had a superb Christmas meal with colleagues a couple of weeks ago. Authentic and tasty and great service. Much better quality of service and food than you'd expect from the size of the place. Would definitely recommend and will come again

Lina and her staff were most helpful, great hosts and the food was absolutely fantastic. They opened for our exclusive use only, for our staff Christmas Meal. The service was second to none, the meals were all piping hot and was serviced together. They were also happy to tailor for individual needs and requirements. We thoroughly recommend this establishment to all. The restuarant is compact and bijoux, but this made for an excellent atmosphere. Thanks Montanaro's.

Visited this place on the 10th Great service, all the staff who served me was very polite and always there if needed something. The food was lovely. It's a lovely place with a brill atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting here again. Highly recommended

Been told to go to this place by so many people. I came to the restaurant on the 3rd Dec, greeted by a happy and smiley waiter who seated us to our table. Loads of choice of food and alcohol! I had a meat feast pizza, which you could tell was 100% home made and fresh with so much taste! Next was the Desert, wow.. I believe everything they cook is fresh which is a bonus. I don't mind paying abit extra for quality food. Believe me this is not the last time i will be visiting you. The space isn't an issue as I've read previous reviews. Such a lovely little family ran place that's very underestimated! 1000% recommend!

I visited here on the 8th of December and well what can I say, the young lady that served me was polite, helpful and was always there when we needed her, the atmosphere was brill! The wine was just perfect for what we had to eat, complemented each other and very reasonably priced! The food was just perfect! Cook to how I like it and the chef who I believe is Italian couldn't have cooked it better. Highly recommended to all a place you must try!

Went here last night thought id try some where diffrent as been recommend by coupel of people wen we first walked in just looked like basic littel cafe we was put to a young girl given menues not really much choice my husband looked through wine list menu was told there all buy the bottel theres only one u can have off the wine list if only having a glass so was bit disopointed my i had small white wine n lemonade it came in pint glass just tasted of lemonade i starter was very nice i had lasgne for main was ok mince was clumped together so put me off a bit and celeray in it which i dnt like my husband had a garlic n chilli pasta asked if he wanted mild or hot he said hot it was full of oil at bottom of is bowel with only 1 piece of chilli in not hot one bit staff need dress like they wrk in a resturant not sweaters and tattoos up there arm nxt time ill stick to prezzo

Went for my first time tonight with a friend and we were not disappointed. I had heard there was a great Italian restaurant in swadlincote that did fab food and it's true. It is a hidden little gem. Great food, reasonably priced and friendly service would strongly recommend and def be going back.

We have been before and love this place so took our visiting friends from Bristol who love Italian food. They were blown away by the quality, flavours and the generous portions. Still talking about it next morning including when they can visit again. It's so nice to have a quality restaurant so close to home.

I came here with a few friends in August for the first time as was recommended but when we got here staff was rude the waiter didn't have a clue what was going on couldn't even get drinks right then we asked about the menu again he didn't have a clue?! Eventually got our food was ok nothing I couldn't make myself at home! Again every time the phone rang the strange waiter was going in the kitchen getting the chef to answer now if you employ the staff you want them too do the job? Would never go again and will stick to the real Italians not recommended at all!!!

Me and my girlfriend were rather peckish and so we decided to go to montanaros. Having been before in the past for a christmas meal and was really impressed I was really pleased to re visit and see how it was a few years later.Mantanaros is situated in swadlincote town centre, and used to be a small cafe now turned family run restaurant. It is italian themed and has a nice atmosphere.Seating is limited as it is only a small area however, this adds to its charm and allows customers to feel like service is more one to one and personal rather than that of big chain restaurants.We were greeted by tge waitress and show to our seats, service was prompt and friendly.We ordered starters which arrived shortly after, well presented, hot and delicious. I had the goats cheese and the other half had the soup.For mains we both ordered chicken wrapped in parma ham, which again arrived within good time after the starters so you had time to chat. The food was piping hot and very well presented and had all tge flavours you'd imagine a great italian meal would. For deserts we both had the homemade lemon cheesecake, which again was excellent.The bill came to around £25 each including two glasses of pepsi each.The price is very well worth what you get and I'm ashamed to say I completely forgot about Montanaros as its locations is well hidden.I would highly recommend going to Montanaros if you are a couple looking for a nice romantic meal in a quiet environment with ambiance. I would alao recommend small groups of 4, while Montanaros could cater for larger groups it would require you to book in advance.If you haven't tried Montanaros yet I suggeat you do, its a great little eat out spot that I really hope they expand.

Family birthday so we had 4 children in our group. Had booked this do they could all have something they liked rather than the usual children's menus in pubs. However one of the children chose pizza only to be told they had no pizza this was a Saturday evening. How can an Italian restaurant have no pizza ... Won't be going back.

Had a really lovely evening at this Restaurant. The food was delicious, well presented and most important to me it was hot, something I deem most important. My friend and I were very impressed. I want very much to come back again bringing my family knowing we will get a friendly and welcoming reception. Well done Leena you will see us again.

Had an evening meal with a friend and it was DELICIOUS! Leena (owner, chef, waitress, barperson etc) is friendly and bends over backwards to accomodate what you would like. Everything is cooked there and then fresh, hot and delicious. So if you have particular needs/wishes...just ask! It isn't a fulltime restaurant so check time/days. But worth a visit.
