Mokos Mexican Restaurant in Monmouthshire

Lovely little Mexican restaurant. Food was extremely good and large portions. The decoration and ambience was very inkeeping with the theme although staff were very friendly and weren't at all authentic. That apart I would recommend as somewhere to go for tasty food and pleasant atmosphere.

Enjoyed an excellent meal on a date night. Superb friendly service and professional courtesy, nice atmosphere and apt back ground music. Will definitely visit again, thank you to all who made our evening so enjoyable.

Visited for the first time tonight and loved it. Our friends have been banging on about this place for years and now I can understand why. Great food, great service and friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to visit again soon!!

Great atmosphere, good food and great staff

Absolutely love it here. My gran introduced us to it over 10 years ago and we still keep going back. Reasonably priced, maybe even too low. Large portions and the food is always incredible

Food was good, the service has room to improve and bizzarely they had vanished their tables which were stick and that made it an unpleasant experience. With time that issue will go away. Atmosphere was good on a Saturday night.

The atmosphere in this place was amazing! The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was top notch, me and my partner had a wonderful time! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good evening.

I never really leave feedback but feel I need to on this one We went here as was driving through Monmouth checked out the reviews and seemed positive don’t Be fooled food is tasteless full of grease and just rubbish the actual place itself has a real dirty grimy feel left most of the food and left disappointed won’t be going back.

Though my family enjoyed the food. I ordered an £18.95 paella. I don't eat any meat and treated myself for the first time in 3 years by ordering a seafood paella. The dish stated shrimp, mussels and squid. The paella I got had no seafood in it, it instead had chicken and pork in it. Not at all what I ordered and certainly not worth £18.95. Unfortunately I couldn't eat any of it as I don't eat chicken or pork, hence why I ordered a seafood paella. I left feeling hungry with a packed lunch for my kids of savory rice and chicken strips! If a restaurant doesn't have seafood then tell the customer instead of trying to throw together alternatives that in no way resemble what is described on the menu. Serves me right for ordering seafood after 3 years of abstinence from any animals. This is the last time I order seafood. Check with the restaurant before òrdering, that what the menu describes is what you are getting or like me go home hungry and highly disappointed.

Popped in here whilst working away again. Had a really good pint of cold San Miguel and excellent chicken fajitas. The staff where very polite as well. Definitely worth a visit if in Monmouth. It was quiet due to it being a cold wet evening but this place deserves to be busier, ill be going back next time I'm in the area.

Revisit our 2nd, took the 4 kids with us this time. I have to repeat that the food is delicious. Service is with a smile and they can't do enough for you. I've had beef Burritos and I've has the Beef Chimichangas either way u can't go wrong.

Delicious menu, can select heat and meat/vegetarian options for most. The cocktails and tequila options were also great! The hard-working staff were really friendly, we'll definitely be back

Well worth a visit to mokos if you like Mexican food. We were passing through Monmouth on a long journey and decided to stop to find somewhere to eat. On a hot day we were glad Mokos had air conditioning! The cocktails were incredibly tasty and they were not shy with the alcohol. My friend and I both ordered the burrito with a side of fries and were amazed by how good the portion size was. I had pulled more in mine and my friend had beef mince. Both had so much flavour. The 2 waitresses were very friendly and the owner was a lovely chap, came to check the meal was OK and even brought out some special hot sauce his kitchen staff had made up. 100% worth a visit

A really disappointing experience. Friends had eaten here a few week previous & loved it so much they took us along for evening meal. I half wonder if there was a replacement chef in the kitchen, who is new to cooking Mexican, as the food was not good to say the least. Nachos had very little topping & were tasteless. Friends chimichanga was burnt, some parts were visibly black & hence inedible, he only had 2 mouthfuls. Can't believe the chef let it out of the kitchen in that state. My chimichanga with beans, had few beans but lots of runny 'juice' making the tortilla really doughy, hardly palatable and bland! Able to eat less than half of it. We complained to the waitress but we were brought the bill containg charge for food we couldn't eat! Expecting us to pay the entire bill. We didn't.

I have repeatedly tried to get a table at this restaurant and left a message to book a table for lunch when they should have been open.They phoned me back in the evening by which time I have driven to the restaurant waited outside and seen it’s closed.No apologies offered or offer of another time and date. Judging by the reviews the food is good but the opening times on their sites are not up to date and their customer service is severely lacking.I like Mexican food I would like to go but it’s unreliable and un professional,desparately needs some sort of manager.

Not great visit today, travelled up from Cardiff to have lunch with friends and was recommended Mokos. Checked website and suppose to open at 11am but actually open at 6pm. Changed website and update your website. Now in another restaurant.

Ordered the Seafood Paella and a cheesecake. Both had very generous servings. The Paella is good for two people to share. They don't rip you off with the desert. The cheesecake was a big compared to what other places might give you. Atmosphere and music was warm and welcoming. Staff were very friendly too

Absolutely amazing. Tried their chilli bites for a starter and I loved it. Must have a try. Ordered a Swordfish Steak which was cooked beautifully, salad was refreshing and the potato wedges were nice and crispy. Only thing I wish they could've done was to maybe add a sauce, even if it was an additional cost, it would have brought the dish full circle. But lovely nonetheless. Had a pecan pie for dessert, my brother had a cheesecake. The pecan was good, nothing bad to say about that. Went well with ice cream. Cheesecake was a great size. Definitely coming back.

Very pleasant staff, good size portions. If you select the 'hot' option, be warned that I although I love chillis, this 'hot' was painful to eat! My other request would be that the amount of mozerella in my burrito was huge - my main impression was of chewing though cheese rather than beans!

Corporate Mexican restaurants are easy to find in the UK. Its much more difficult to find independent Mexican restaurants with authenticity and character. This is one of those, and the food is excellent. Have the Los Burrito, its amazing!

Individual little Mexican bistro serving up popular dishes. Friendly staff. Cocktail and wine menu's, standard choice of soft drinks. Ordered vegetarian dishes (for 2 person's) of tacos with veg chilli & melted cheese with rice, side salad and soft tortillas with Quorn "chicken" strips, peppers and rice (you have the option of mild, medium or spicy when you order). Located near the popular Savoy Theatre/Cinema - ideal for post show/film dining. Vegetarian Meal for 2 came to £30. Relaxing atmosphere.

Called here on a very rainy day had to sit outside due to covid restrictions. So sat under the sun canopy. Ordered garlic prawn starters and 1 steak 1 chicken main course. Fully garnished with salad and salsa. Omg all of it was stunning who cares we were cold but fortunately we kept dry. Only had tea and coffee but even that was really good. Will definitely be back for an evening meal with wine cos it was lusj

Lovely food, very filling, good service, reasonable price

We were greeted by a nice chap and we had to sit outside due to the law. We got drinks and I ordered the mushroom and prawns it was a big dish, nice and hot and tasty. Buffalo wings had a crispy skin and nice taste with bbq sauce. Mains were texas burger with fries and slaw. The burger was enough for me and there was a load of hot fries. I loved it food and staff were friendly

Has a very very good takeaway ordered an hour before. Portions were huge with a burrito and a chimichanga. Really tasty food and a great place.

My significant other and myself have been lusting after this establishment for quite some time now, and had been planning a visit to the restaurant for our anniversary back in November, and were deeply disappointed when lockdown struck. However, a crisp Saturday afternoon in February got us thinking about how bored we were of the other available takeaway options in the vicinity, and the passion to try some tasty TexMex grub from this venture reignited. Our mouths watered as we checked out the morsels available for takeaway, and we decided on ordering the chicken and chorizo fajitas, the veggie fajitas, and some nachos to share. We chose the latter because we were unsure of how substantial the offerings would be.We hopped in the car and drove a short distance to the quaint town that is Monmouth from our Forest of Dean residence. The tart air outside the authentically-decorated restaurant accentuated the gorgeous scent of spice that greeted us like a warm hug as my partner walked through the door. I stayed outside, but the soulful scents that lingered in the air had me whipped!My boyfriend said the decor within the welcoming restaurant was sublimely bona fide, and the man at the front of house was enthusiastic and polite. He emerged with our food, the scent of which made the car journey home very hard! It smelt phenomenal.Although we had to pick up a takeaway at another establishment in town after visiting Mokos, on arriving home half an hour later the food was still fresh, fiery and fabulous. I was overwhelmed at the size of my fajitas - the quorn was not at all dry and had been cooked appropriately - something I worry about as lot as some restaurants have no idea how to handle it! I got them in medium spice, which had the perfect amount of kick. My boyfriend said his meal of the chicken and chorizo fajitas packed a meaty punch, and was very filling (and this gentleman eats like a horse). The only downside I would say would be the nachos, as they were a little dry. However, we did not really have the room for them, and completely appreciate this would not be an issue if it was a sit down meal situation. But such are the times we live in.Overall, I was incredibly satisfied with the experience; Mexican food is our favourite but it is very hard to find somewhere that serves such a delicacy around these parts. My boyfriend and I sincerely hope we will be able to visit this place for a sit down meal in May for our 18 months.

This is our first visit to Monmouth which is very quaint and pretty. We spent a few hours looking around the shops and exploring the local area before enjoying a sit down meal at Mokos. We chose this restaurant based on the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. This restaurant was immaculate and the staff were very welcoming. There was a great menu and it was difficult to choose. I eventually opted for the spicy mushrooms and prawns for starters, steak fajitas for the main and cheese cake for the dessert. My husband ordered the garlic mushrooms for the starter, Mexican tequila chicken for the main and sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for the dessert. The food was presented well, tasted delicious made with quality ingredients and the portion sizes were perfect.

Good, hearty menu - good food, good choices, down to earth, generous portions and you CAN eat in now!

We had a sit down meal recently in Mokos whilst visiting the local area. After reading the reviews online we thought we would try it as we love Mexican food ! It surpassed expectations! All food was piping hot, huge portions!l and absolutely delicious! Friendly, very quick service and good value for money. When visiting we had the restaurant to ourselves but they were very busy with takeaways! We ordered and would recommend the sharing nachos, chicken fajitas and the chimichangas ! I like that they also accommodated for vegetarians (which both my mum and sister are) and offered quorn instead of chicken along with other vegetable dishes! Definitely pay a visit if you are in the area, or order a takeaway! You won’t be disappointed!

We had a lunchtime meal, we sat outside in the sun because we had our dog with us. The food was absolutely lovely, more than enough, I didn’t manage to eat all of mine! The waiter was lovely, and disappeared into the local butchers and fruit and veg shop buying fresh ingredients for the restaurant, so was incredibly tasty, fresh and wholesome. I would definitely recommend.

We arrived on a busy Saturday night and the place was packed. The food was delicious and they made a fuss of our daughter also dining with us. Only disappointment is they had run out of churro's but apart from that the food at atmosphere and service was great. Tip of the day; don't order starters as portions are huge!

We were recomended to visit Mokos by some locals and we did read a review on here which seamed good, However when we arrived there wasnt any sanitizing gel, ok i have my own so not a problem. we ordered and the food came out promptly , it was obvious that the nachos had been microwaved and the mains were ok but not as hyped up by others TBH I could do much better and im not Gordon Ramsey ! when we went to pay the waiter couldnt use his card payment machine so my husband had to run to the cash point, When i offered my details for track and trace he had no idea what i was talking about i was shocked at his attitude when i insisted he took my details. no masks worn and no screens how disappointing.
