Mogul Dynasty in Mole Valley

Late decision to head to an Indian restaurant on a Saturday evening. Quick Google and Moghul Dynasty came up as a decent option. Quick call and we bagged the last table. The place isn’t licensed, so we were advised to BYOB, which is perfect given the Tesco opposite sells cold beer. We turned up and ordered the obligatory poppadums and chutneys and browsed the menu. The menu is all very standard, nothing spectacular, and we went for a couple of mild dishes, some vegetable sides and some naans. The food is exceptionally bland - genuinely they have not spiced any of the dishes so the overwhelming taste is either coconut or chili. The raita is literally yoghurt with some chopped cucumber and the saag aloo was 90% aloo, very dry and very bland. Despite not having to pay for booze, 3 mains, rice, a couple of sides and some naans cleared 80 quid (without service apparently) and we left with that feeling of regret at forking out a lot for not a lot. It was busy in the restaurant, so for some this must hit the spot, but tbh you’d be better off with a couple of jars of Sharwood paste and some Waitrose bhajis.

Been coming here for 30 years - the best curry house in the area. Tried the others & always come back here. Great service - don't let the no alcohol served put you off - bring your own beer! Fantastic menu & great staff.

Ate here recently mid week with friends. Had main and sides , incl garlic Mann, onion salad etc. nothing , no dish I ate had any flavour. I genuinely questioned whether I had Covid again as I could taste no flavour in anything. My fellow diners said they enjoyed their dishes, so I may have just chosen badly. Also..NO ALCOHOL LICENSE….but you can go over the road to Tesco for a carry out.. nope , will not be visiting again.

One again the Mogul Dynasty offered the best curry in Surrey. We were welcomed as ‘old friends’ and ordered a selection of curry’s. The food never fails to deliver with fresh tasty fallouts cooked to perfection. If we are ever away from Ashtead and visit an alternative Indian restaurant, my wife and I always comment … it’s not as good as the Mogul! Highly recommend.

Have never been to this restaurant before and was very eager to check it out. It looked very small from the outside but was a very good size inside. Was happy with the deco and when we entered we were the only few that were present at 7:00 pm. But it got full up very quickly. We were very happy with the food. We ordered papadums and a couple of other starters which were very tasty. We were also advised that one plate would be very small so were happy to order two plates of the same starter. We were also given a freebie aubergine starter which was actually very tasty. The good thing was none of the dishes were oily and were very authentic. We also had two biryanis and three more dishes. We were happy with the service and food! Thank you! We will most definitely be going back!

Had a collection from here and given the good reviews on here, I thought it would be a good option.... However, I don't know whats happened recently but the food was completely tasteless and had zero flavour. Given the premium prices, I expected a good standard curry. This tasted watered down completely. I have had more flavour in a ready-meal.

Went there with the family mid-week. The reviews are positive but the food we ordered was not. The restaurant was empty but we still had to wait for our food. Once the food arrived all of the dishes were tasteless. I was really looking forward to the biryani, which at other restaurants is fragrant and spicy, here was full of tasteless potatoes and lacked any spices of flavour. Some of the other dishes were over cooked. We all left disappointed and will not be going back.

We have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years now. We have always had a good meal here. We really enjoy dining here and look forward to coming again. The service is superb, with lovely staff. The restaurant is well set up for COVID 19. The staff all wear masks, there are gaps between the tables and hand sanitiser is readily available throughout the restaurant. We highly recommend this restaurant for its great food with generous portions, great service and excellent value, thank you to all.

Ordered a delivery which was estimated to be delivered an hour after ordering which was fine, made an error on the order so rang to alter it before it was delivered, this was 5 minutes after ordering online, 10 mins later delivery turned up, had no time to alter order, food was cold and very unappetising! Used to love this place but will never use again….and to top it all I was very ill after eating it, had nothing else all day so could only have been the food that was delivered! I cannot believe this food had been freshly cooked when it was delivered cold within 20 mins of ordering it!

Went for a curry tonight for my sons 12th birthday. The food was amazing, staff were attentive without being over bearing and when they found out it was his birthday they gave him a box of quality street at the end of the meal. You can bring you’re own alcohol which lowers the cost of a meal out too! There’s a reason we’ve been coming to the mogul for over 20 years! Great food and service, as usual. Thank you guys.

This was our first and most certainly our last time ordering from here. The curry was bland and tasteless, cold and the naan bread was burnt. It was without doubt the worst curry we’ve ever had. Poor show Mogul Dynasty. ☹️

Ordered through Uber eats, curries were oily and tasteless, onions Bhajis were dry and flat as pancakes and no raita however garlic nann was delicious as was mushroom rice. Read a few of the good reviews and looked at expensive prices and made a bad choice.

We are regular visitors to the Mogul and are astounded at the high standards maintained year in year out. During the pro longed lockdown our family have ordered numerous takeaways and the dishes just get better and better . The food is fresh, hot, tasty, generous in portion size and outstanding value for money - discount is offered for cash Our latest favourites are Garlic Chilli Lamb Masala (which can be milder if requested) , Special Tandoori Chicken Bhuna - on the bone for tender meat and Tandoori Chicken Masala. Raj and the staff are careful and practise effective social distancing. We will be back!

Online order. The restaurant called me when I was 5 mins late to tell me it was ready, which was a nice touch. I arrived and they were serving from the door, food was handed over immediately. Nice onion bhaji and kebab starters. Garlic chili chicken was excellent. A great meal and service was excellent, especially in the COVID times

Takeaways from the Mogul certainly helped us get through "lock down". Thank you to Ali and the team for continuing to serve up "Dhansaks to die for"!

Food was excellent, as was the service and cleanliness. Not been in years, won’t been year before my next visit, it will be next week.

Visited again after they have been closed due to Covid-19 and the lockdown.The restaurant was really well set up, with gaps between all of the tables, hand sanitiser and customer guidance available, and the staff all wearing masks and gloves etc.Food was as amazing as always (I have missed it soo much!) and the service was it’s usual efficient self.If you have never eaten here before, or you’re a regular who’s not sure on whether to return based on the current climate, then just do it.Can’t fault the place in any way

I got a takeaway once. Now they will not stop texting me despite a text, a written message and then a telephone conversation in which they assured me they would stop. I cannot I get rid of these invasive wnkers who won’t stop spamming me despite previous, polite requests. I never asked to be on a list and was never told I’d be added to one but to blatantly ignore express requests to delete my info is an abuse of customer’s personal information and they really don’t care.

Great curries and a nice atmosphere on a Friday night. The specials menu had some unusual dishes which we really enjoyed. The staff were friendly and the menu good value for money. Book on a Friday night.

Booked a table for 20:00 this evening for 6 people. Arrived and no one decided to tell us that the table was being used by a previous booking who had turned up late. Left for 20 minutes standing at the front of the restaurant. As no one decided to speak to us and apologise for the lack of table and no possibility of a future table we left the restaurant and attended a local restaurant. Incredibly disappointed by the service and will not be returning.

We have been going to this Indian restaurant for many years and we have always have a a great meal. This is a gem in the heart of the village flower Ashted in Surrey. The staff are always very friendly and ensure the service is to a very high standard. The Mogul Dynasty is a very popular restaurant in the area and can get very busy but the food is to a very high standard.

Great food, lovely staff - really like the restaurant but food slightly expensive now which is a shame.

We have been going to this restaurant for many years and have always had great service and the team are always very friendly and welcoming. The food is always of a high standard and when they had a change of menu and the meal that I always had was removed the owner told me not to worry all I need to do is ask when I come in and they will make especially for me. Now that taking service beyond what you would expect. If your in the area give them a try and you will be back.

Use The Mogul regularly over the past 20-years - food has always been good to excellent - venue can be crowded at times especially on Friday & Saturday evenings; my wife and I generally prefer Sunday evening as it is less crowded. Have been eating curry for many years, way back into the late fifties in London, and still rate the Mogul one of the best for food. As far as the venue is concerned have eaten in a number restaurants which are very exotic but still do not match curry from the Mogul.

We ordered a take away from here this evening and it took an hour and fifteen minutes to arrive when it was supposed to take 45 minutes. When it arrived, the food was cold. I had ordered a vegetable masala without sweetcorn and mushrooms as my friend is allergic to mushrooms and when the dish arrived it had both sweetcorn and mushrooms in meaning that she could not eat it. I had also ordered a chicken tikka masala which was watery and tasted nothing like a chicken tikka masala. I called the restaurant to discuss the problems with the takeaway however the man with whom I spoke to insisted that nobody else had complained in the restaurant that evening and that he could not hear what I was saying. Sadly, the member of staff clearly did not care. This was very disappointing and we will definitely not be visiting here again or ordering a takeaway which is a shame as we have visited many times before as we live locally in Ashtead and the food had always been good.

We travel about 15 miles to eat at the Mogul Dynasty and have eaten here many many times. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming and ready for a chat if you want to.The food is and always has been excellent and the atmosphere is perfect. Despite the distance, we would never go for a curry anywhere else.

Delicious meal in nice clean surroundings. Got complementary fried aubergines to start which were fab and everyone in the group enjoyed their food. Staff were nice but not in your face. We’ll be back

The Mogul is and continues to be an Ashtead institution. Why that is can be hard to explain as it’s not without competition in the area and the food is never anything to get excited about. It’s just got a certain charm which seems to appeal across all generations and it has retained one Element that so many others get wrong, The service.

I arranged an evening for 21. The food was great as usual and Ali and his team made sure that everything went smoothly. Recommended.

Mogul is a family Run business, nothing is to much trouble. If you need your dish slightly tweeted no problem. all food is always cooked well and always full of flavour. Highly recommend.

We have been dining at The Mogul Dynasty in Ashtead Surrey since its conception, some thirty plus years ago. The food is wonderfully flavoured, imaginative and cooked to order.

This was always the best for curry when we lived in locally.

First visit in 10yrs and will be returning very soon for sure...

Having been disappointed by all the Indian restaurants in Leatherhead town & Ashstead, I decided to try this eatery. It was standard, very expensive average food.

This is a great Indian restaurant I have been to. The food is good quality and service is good. I highly recommend this place.

The sort of Indian restaurant--and this type is all too common--where it seems as though all food is ladled out of an industrial vat of overcooked slop into which some scoop of this or that is added to make the offerings comport somewhat with description on the menu. The vegetables in the curries are what would accompany a Sunday roast, not what is authentic to Indian cuisine. The restaurant looked very down at heel and not as clean as a restaurant should be. How on earth this place is so highly rated escapes me!

Been going to this restaurant for many years and it has always been good every time we visited. Unfortunately on Saturday night 2/3 the service was very poor. Waiters were bordering on rude. No char. Normally when we have coffees we get a top up but all that happened last night was bill was slapped in front of us and they were looking at us waiting for us to leave even though it was before closing time. We ordered brandies and felt we were being pressured to drink up even though this was before 10.30. Very disappointed. Hope the restaurant reads this to learn from it.

The food is excellent and the staff are very obliging. This is the best restaurant in Surrey and they always make us feel so welcome.

This was our first visit, which was as part of a group of 15. Arrival time was 12.30, but unfortunately for me, the starters didn't arrive until about 1.30, which was a problem as I had to be home by 2.15. Having said that, the starters were excellent. When we explained the problem, the staff were very happy to parcel up my meal for my partner to bring home with him later. We enjoyed a vegetable korma, lemon rice, and sag aloo for supper the next evening. Absolutely delicious and actually enough for two! We plan a return visit when we have a bit more time and don't have to rush off.

Busy on a Friday night but service was excellent - attentive without being rushed. Enjoyed mushroom paratha for stater and chicken dupiaza with sides of saag bhaji and pilau rice. Well spiced and generous portions. Others in the group enjoyed prawn biriani and chicken razella - which apparently had a kick.

Thanks to you good trip advisor folks gave this place a spin as it was sort of half way between.

Visited the Mogul many times down the years, and can honestly say I’ve never been disappointed. Friendly staff, great service and excellent food. Lovely little touches like the complimentary side dish and the liquor of your choice at the end of your meal. My favourite Curry house by far.

I arranged an outing for a group of colleagues and took a chance on having read some positive reviews of this restaurant. I was so glad that I booked in advance, the place is so popular. The staff were amazingly on the ball considering how busy it was and the food kept coming and was hot. The menu is extensive the staff are helpful the seating is comfortable, the decor is pleasant and the food is very tasty. What's not to like? So glad that I stumbled across this place. I wanted to give top marks for food service and value but the rating isn't working.

Fantastic food and service and welcoming atmosphere from one of the best Curry houses in Surrey. Ideal for families and friends or couples wide range of flavoursome food to suit all tastes and very well priced. Never fails to please.

I’m a regular at the Mogul Dynasty! The food is quite frankly out of this world! You can truly tell the food is cooked fresh to order. The portion sizes are so generous! The staff make you feel like your at home! The entire experience as you walk in feels so welcoming/accommodating! It’s truly a hidden and well kept gem of Ashtead!!!

My recollection, and it was nine months ago, is that it was a good venue, catering for our party of about eighteen.

Not from the local area and was SO impressed with the service and the food! After a day at chessington we decided to go to this curry house and its safe to say we will 100% return when we next go to chesington not only was the food amazing the service was 10/10 they couldnt of done more for us and were amazing with my children going out there way to cheer up my little girl who was a little grump and tired they even gave the kids a bag of chocolate when we left, we was offered a complimentary drink and also got a complimentary dish, couldnt fault this reaturant 10/10

The Moghul is our favourite curry house in our area. Good food, good service. We are never disappointed.

I took my visiting relatives hoping for the usual prompt and courteous service . On this occasion it was awful. Our waiter rushed us from the off . He asked if we wanted wine and when we said yes he pushed us to say whether we wanted red or white wine . I said I'd like a glass of white wine as an aperitif but my sister & her husband had already expressed a preference for red wine. Before we had time to look at a wine list the waiter had disappeared then returned with a bottle of their House red wine. He'd also asked if we'd like some Poppadoms and aggressively quizzed us on how many . We said we'd like one each. I eventually got my glass of white wine after repeatedly requesting it but no Poppadoms arrived . Meanwhile the table next to us became occupied and shortly after they'd sat down they were served with Poppadoms. After about 20 minutes we asked where our Poppadoms were and instead of admitting that they had forgotten about them the waiter made excuses and then just dumped them on our table saying that the restaurant was very busy . Another 25 minutes passed and I asked what had happened to our food order as we were now very hungry and had been in the restaurant almost an hour already .The waiter and manager argued with me telling me that the food was all made fresh . The meal, when it finally arrived , was excellent . But the attitude of the staff had already spoilt my evening . I was really disappointed by the whole experience as I had been so looking forward to the evening . i am a local ( I had taken other guests there just 2 weeks ago and with a different waiter we had a nice time ) and I would dine there much more often if I wasn't made to feel uncomfortable for simply speaking up when service is below par.

We often eat in the Mogul Dynasty and we always get an excellent meal. The service is excellent the place is clean (with a 5 star rating from the local council), I am sure there is no better curry house in the country.

The service is good and the food is amazing: Fresh, delicious. The quantity an quality is excellent. The place looks clean and safe.

Got a wrong meal but as there was 4 of us I didn't complain and ate the dish.

Had a curry with family here in very busy restaurant. Had great night, manager asked if everything was ok and had lovely chat, we very much appreciated that. Will come back soon.

After receiving so many recommendations from friends we finally went to try for ourselves. Friendly and attentive staff, good food and all reasonably priced. Nothing was too much trouble for them - we will definitely go again.

Another family trip to the Mogul Dynasty - food excellent once again. Staff friendly brilliant service. A really enjoyable evening out. Restaurant full but had booked ahead earlier in the week, we got a good table and there was a great atmosphere.

I could go on forever about how good this place is. I could tell you about the great staff, the amazing food, or the wonderful drinks. BUT... you should just go yourself, this place is #1 in Ashtead for a reason!!!!!

Have recently started going back there after at least a 25 year gap despite now living around 15km away - and it’s still the best Indian restaurant in Surrey! The staff are always smartly dressed and Very attentive and they seem to go out of their way to make your evening special. The food is to die for and very reasonably priced, hence the place being full to bursting the last two occasions we’ve been. We had starters of popadoms, shish kebabs and lamb tikka, mains of lamb balti, chicken tikka masala with mushroom rice and two beers plus two liquours - all delicious - for £55. The management have got it spot on with ambience, decor and menu - we wouldn’t go anywhere else now

Having read a few reviews of late saying the ovulation wasn’t as good as it was we hesitantly went there one evening this month.

I can't fault the food, and they had some unusual dishes. The value was excellent, but the waiters could have been considerably more attentive.

Great food, good service. The main curries were simply outstanding, if anything there is to much choice. The portions were good and the waiters went out of their way to make sure we were happy with our meals. One of the best curries around and at reasonable cost.

I ordered a lamb dish and got chicken. Yes management took that off the bill after I complained as the correct dish arrived and it really it was bitter and horrid. I thought the staff were rude and I haven't seen them before. Are they new? They kept interrupting us and wanting to hurry us up in between courses. While I was still eating as well. At one point I said I haven't finished. You're going to give me indigestion if I eat any faster. I smiled and the response was a glare. You weren't particularly busy either. Surprisingly for a Saturday.We got friendly with a charming couple next door and chatted for a while. I was aware that I was being glared at the whole time by 2/3 waiters as I had paid and they wanted to obviously clear the table. There was no one waiting. The place had got quieter. Unnerving and nasty.Well after visiting this restaurant since you opened I won't be coming back for quite a while. What a shame.Oh and one, shall we say well built waiter trod on my cousin's foot. He kept saying ouch you're on my foot. He wouldn't budge. I don't think he understood.It was in all a horrid and random evening. Apart from the nice couple I met. Sort this out Management and get rid of those rude unfriendly staff of yours. It not doing you any favours. I have never seen the place so quiet.

Visited here with friends for the first time, I noticed it was amazingly busy, and was assured we wouldn't get in without booking at a weekend, so I was expecting good things! The staff were friendly and attentive, and they got the food and drinks order correct, and the plates and the food were all hot (temperature not spicy!) The chicken tikka was particularly good really moist, I could have just eaten that all night! When we try a new place we always order what we would at any other restaurant, so you can make a proper comparison, and I can honestly say, it was better than any other Indian restaurant we have been to! Will definitely go back!

I have been to the Mogul many times in the 30 years it has been open and enjoy the good services and friendly atmosphere. This latest visit was given a similar welcome and good looking food when it arrived but it tasted bland with little flavour and was dry with little sauce. I know it was a Saturday night but the food was underwhelming with many better tastes curries available locally and a more peaceful environment without our chairs being constantly knocked.I would recommend you check your bill as they added an additional £7.70 to our bill which was annoying but removed once we checked but not the sort of error which should be made when the owner takes your order!

We came here as a last minute decision, when we had originally intended to visit the chippy that is in the same location. We were greeted at the front door, and service was quick to order drinks and poppadoms. They were nicely busy, but unfortunately a table of around 10 had just sat down before us, which meant that there was a slight delay in us getting served for our main course. As soon as we'd ordered our main course, we were presented with a little dish of complimentary fried, battered aubergine pieces which helped to satisfy our hunger. We weren't bothered by waiters at any point whilst eating our main meal which was a pleasant surprise. The food was well presented and tasted nice and fresh. Finishing touches were nice, which includes being served Mukhwas after the meal, a hot towel each and a complimentary Baileys. It's these little touches that make all the difference. Thank you, we will return!

Me and my family have been coming to the Mogul for years, and we love it! The food is always so good and the service is always fast and very friendly! Will definitely be continuing to come for a very long time!

It's been a while since we had dinner in the Moghul so last night was a treat as the food was up to their usual standards and the atmosphere was as busy as ever. Recommended.

Food arrived warm and not hot. My husband received the wrong dish. Other guests were offered complimentary drinks before leaving but we were not despite mistake that was made and we had to wait awhile! Won't be going back. The so called separate menu for 'MOGUL' dish was really not 'Mogul' at all. I think Chef needs to re-train as what 'Mogul' dishes truly are!! So the price paid was a lot more that a typical Indian dish!! So very disappointed.

Regular visitors are welcomed by name in this charming family restaurant that has graced Ashtead for many years. The food is terrific and authentic, but service can suffer a bit when they are busy. Book early, because this place is extremely popular with locals and folk from afar. Takeaway is also a good option.

I have been a customer here for over 30 years. Never had a poor meal and service always excellent. Extensive menu is complemented by complimentary savoury 'snacks' pre-starter as well as usual post meal liquor. Highly recommend this restaurant. Booking essential at peak times.

Best curry in the local area including Epsom, Leatherhead and of course Ashtead.Great selection on the menu, and in particular the specials.Don't go too heavy on the starters as you get lots of extra goodies to eat upon arrival.

We never went to our local restaurants and were very surprised to have such a nice place near by when we visited it recently. Very warm atmosphere, friendly personnel, great food! After a week, we were there again for a birthday celebration. Interestingly, the same food was slightly differently cooked (maybe another chef?), but the quality was fantastic.Thank you, guys! As regular visitors to the Mogul we know what to expect. We are seldom if ever disappointed. On this occasion a Saturday night family meal was excellent.The quality of the food is consistently very high, by far the best in Ashtead and nearby.The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient and greet you like long lost friends.

The website says its open at lunchtime - which it wasn't when I arrived with some work colleagues. Ended up having to pop into the supermarket instead.

We went for a curry on Saturday and the restaurant was very busy. It is relatively cramped and it was quite loud in there given the number of people.The menu selection was okay but I felt the Chef's specials seemed a little unambitious. We shared a number of plates and even though I tentatively selected the 'hot' option, I was not left with the familiar 'mouth-on-fire' feeling that I had hoped for. The quality of the food was high and service speed was quick. Our party felt the customer service let the rating down overall - somewhat apathetic.

Been here a number of times before always good .Not crowded this time so could hear other end of table clearly .The only negative in the past was with the noise when place was crowded.
