Mobys Seafood Restaurant in Chichester

We were a Party of 4 on a weeks vacation staying in West Wittering. We asked a few locals what the best Chippy was in the Area & they said Mobys. We visited one Lunchtime & had a selection of Cod & Haddock with Chips. All was cooked to perfection & the portions were Generous & Excellent Value.

Family have had meals from here before, I have to say the food was really good, nice size portions. My wife and I had the medium size cod and that was the right size for us, my only issue with the cod is that it was a little tough other than that really nice meal. One thing I could not get my head around was the ordering and ticket numbers, you get a random number (we were 63) customers coming in after us were getting numbers in their 30’s and they were getting food before us which was a little frustrating and also seems a little inefficient.

We had fish and chips and it was perfect. I also had mushy peas . I loved it . The portion of chips was so much that I could not finish eating but for me the small size of cod was just right. If you go to Bracklesham bay this to me is the place to be. You place your order and wait outside for your number to be called. We did try Billy's but we could not get in. I noticed a lot of people had tried this restaurant but could not get in. They went to Moby's and sat on the other side from Billy's and ate the takeaway which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Telephoned an order in and told 10mins. Turned up 10 minutes later and waited over 30mins. Other people were coming in and ordered (not telephone orders) and were served before me. When I enquired about my order the man behind the counter started to get all stroppy and aggressive telling me it would be another 10mins. I got my money back and left. It is the locals who support these business in the winter months. This local won’t go there again and will not recommend it to anyone. In addition it is not a restaurant as it advertises it is a local fish & chip takeaway shop. There is no seating or eating in facilities. Just so you know the cod used is frozen and all the pies are microwaved.

We called in on Saturday & ordered sausage & chips & a fishcake. Usually the fishcakes are white fish & potato & really thick. This time they were the usual grey looking fish you get everywhere else & were really bland. Hopefully this was temporary & aren't now serving these! Don't waste your money.

Went here for the first time to have supper on the beach, we were told 20 minutes but it took over 40 minutes before the food was ready. The fish and chips were undercooked and very small potions.

Amazing food - all fresh and cooked to order. Could not fault the customer service, went out of their way to provide condiments and free sustainable cutlery. Would definitely recommend

Went here by chance as a nearby place was full for takeaway. So glad we found this place! We had 2 fish and chips with mushy peas and curry sauce. Amazing value for money! You have a bit of a wait as the food is cooked to order which I much prefer. Staff are really friendly. Traditional fish and chips, really tasty and chips are homemade (which is a must😀). When in Bracklesham we would not go anywhere else.

We found this fish and chip shop at the end of a morning's walk from Pagham Harbour by which time we were getting hungry and looking for something good to eat. We were not disappointed. Although we had to wait about 15 minutes it was worth it as the food was freshly cooked and extremely tasty. We ate on the seafront and happily pointed another couple in Moby's direction when they asked us where we'd got our meal from!

That is the question. The moment I knew Moby’s was a keeper was when I asked for extra vinegar and they gave me two big handfuls of sachets without question or scorn. For the first time in my life, I felt seen. If you’re looking for seriously life-affirming, sunset-watching, sunburnt nose and knee kind of fish and chips then Moby is the answer. If I can persuade just one new person to check this special place out then my work here is done.

Beware! Portion sizes have shrunk!!! A large cod previously didn’t fit on a standard dinner plate. Last nights ones were about 1/3 less

Amazing chip shop. Family owned and traditional so yes reading some of the reviews it can be a little hectic but that's because its so damn popular and the locals love it! You can call them to pre-order which I would always recommend as they can give you a sense of waiting time. Portions are fantastic and the curry sauce is out of this world. This beats any other chip shops around here hands down.

Wow rude and inefficient! I can’t believe how chaotic this place is! We ordered fish n chips n waited for 25 min when other people who ordered after us got their food first. When we challenged this the servers shouted at us! They were operating a phone order system as well as on the doorstep so it wasn’t clear who was getting what. But the unbelievable rudeness was breathe taking. Their fish might be good but be prepared to wait at least an hour on Fridays.

Don’t be fooled by other seafront fish and chip cafes. Go here, grab the best fish and chips you will have ever eaten and then go sit on the beach. Honestly THE BEST fish and chips, fresh brill was on offer in wonderful crispy, dry batter and hot good old fashioned chip shop chips without the grease!!

Arriving at our campsite quite late, we fancied something easy - Driving into Bracklesham, we saw a couple of options, but Moby's looked quiet and being near the coast, we hoped the fish and chips would be decent. We were not disappointed - With a great selection on the menu, we went for fish and chips and some great sounding extras (who doesn't miss a good pea fritter!!). Yes, there was a bit of a wait as they are clearly busy with phone orders and in person orders, but that's what you get for choosing somewhere that's clearly very good at what they do! The fish was meaty and the batter was light and tasty with no stodgy feeling afterwards. GREAT chips, freshly cooked and proper chippy chips! The pea fritter was well done and everything tasted very fresh. Sadly we didn't find out till we got it back to the campsite that they had neglected to put any salt and vinegar on, despite asking and me saying loads! Anyone who eats fish and chips will feel our pain! Otherwise a good experience!

If you want proper fish and chips this is how it should be done. Cooked in front of you - good quality batter, piping hot and great flavour. The menu has a great selection of sides too. Well worth the visit.Only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars was the rather grumpy and sullen service. Must have been an off night given other reviews, but the food is certainly 5*.

Waited 40 minutes for our order as they can’t cope with the telephone orders and walk-in orders. Absolutely no customer service or concern for the long queue of disgruntled customers. Food was OK but not worth the wait.

Take away local fish and chip shop with parking on road and cheery staff. Currently only 2 people at a time in shop and using a raffle ticket number system and customers waiting outside. Quite busy on a Friday and a long wait, worth it though. Large portions of fish and enormous chips. Rock salmon (Huss) was so full of flavour and perfect texture and batter was light and crispy. Cod, burgers were all good. We bought drinks in advance and then drove to the end of the road to the car park (free after 6pm) and ate it on a bench at Bracklesham beach. Heaven!

Freshest of fish and great chips mainly cooked to order. Very varied menu to suit all. Friendly service.

Well I agree with the saying; You get what you pay for. However, although this was decent fish and chips, I have never paid nearly £23 for 2 large portions of fish and chips. I nearly fell over. No wonder they were not busy!!!

Visited twice while on holiday in East Wittering. The staff were friendly, the portions were good and the cod and chips were hot and tasty! Would definitely recommend.

Was best fish and chips ever when we moved here 4 years ago, today I threw it in the bin! The small fish was 3 mouthfuls in burnt batter and the chips were burnt yet soggy! Tasted like the oil needs changing.

This is not a sit in place, its takeaway only but the fish and chips are very nice and are cooked to order so be prepared to wait ten minutes.

We phoned an order through for a skinless large cod and a medium cod and chips Friday early evening. We were given a 15 min wait time, so hubby went to pick up after about 10 mins, He said the staff were not very friendly and when his order was called out, he was not offered salt and vinegar!! We are literally 2 mins away, his fish was ok, however, mine was dry and as tough as old boots! The chips are the worst chip shop chips I’ve ever had! Again, dry, and it seemed like they hadn’t been blanched first. Look after your locals, we live here and want to be able to get Good Quality takeaway food all year round!

Everything is cooked to order so you have a while to wait, we tried the Huss fish, it comes with a massive bone, not sure why they do not filet it. Also the chips appeared to be frozen ones that they deep fried. Portion size was good though and curry sauce had a good taste.

Have been coming here for years they used to have a attached eat in area sadly closed some years ago, fish and chips cooked to order so usually good ,can get very busy at times so be prepared for a wait, top tip avoid chippy in next village which used to have customers from miles around, what has gone wrong over the years TRIPADVISOR please note the pictures are of Billy’s on the beach NOT Mobys

Buy regularly from this shop - the fish and chips always taste delicious and you always get a large portion.

Got my takeaway last Saturday our haddock was delicious light almost tempura style

Used these for years, recently have had cod and chips and the fish smelt. Gave them a chance and second and third time the fish still smelt of ammonia. Not gong back again. Chips were great.

We came here for a weekend away and wanted some classic fish and chips by the sea.

We got small cod (which was more kids size but just right for me), a small chips, a regular chips, chicken nuggets, mushy peas, tartar sauce and 2 cans of drink for £14. I thought that was quite good and it tasted good. We had chips left over but the kids weren’t keen on the nuggets. It’s just down the road from our caravan so we will go back

The negative reviews on here are mainly regarding their soggy over cooked chips.

I normally go here once a month but I have started to get chips from another fish shop when possible as although I find the fish and prawns are great, the chips look over done and soggy, it’s not as good as other places which have crispy and fluffy chips. I can’t complain about the service or any of other stuff I have tried on the menu, just the chips.

Had "fresh" Haddock which was the least fresh fish I have seen in a long time. It was great and not at all flaky. Had to throw it Away and won't be going back. Worst fish on the south coast

Very disappointing - the scampi was overcooked so it tasted bitter and the chips were more 'bits' than chips. I shall not be returning...

The food is Good, it's very cheap with not a long waiting time. Would definitely use again. And would recommend to others.

We have used the fish and chip shop for takeaway several time and the quality of the food has been consistently good. You can telephone your order through in advance which means you wont have to queue up. You used to be able to pay using credit card over the 'phone but the last time we ordered this was no longer possible. Not a major issue but worth noting.

Lovely fish and chips. And friendly staff however asked for bread rolls with order and the assistant who buttered and handled them didn’t have any gloves on but had been handling money ect. Threw the rolls in bin. As this is very off putting and not at all hygienic. Luckily he didn’t handle our fish and chips. Really should wear gloves too handle food. Especially as handling money too.

Mobys is just around the corner from us but if it was ten miles away I would probably still go there! They always stand their fish which means you always get a lovely crispy batter. Their portions are generous and reasonably priced. And their curry sauce is to die for!

Came home from Work, really hungry had heard good reviews. Sadly disappointed. ! Why would you cook a burger from frozen !! Burnt outside raw in the middle. ! Would I like a credit for my next visit.... no thanks.

All I can say it was what you expect of a fish and chip shop. Nice chips excellent Haddock (best I have ever had) freshly cooked and good sized portions. I was busy which is a sign of a good chippy

It was lunch time when we got to Braklesham Bay and the intention was to eat at Billy’s on the Beach, but unfortunately being helped by a sunny day the place was packed and there was a long wait. Earlier we had spotted this Chippy on the way to Billy’s which was literally few yards away and due to the fact that we were close to starvation we took the plunge. The sticker on the window was showing 5 for Hygiene and I thought that it was a good start. We ordered the local freshly caught Huss and Haddock with chips. I must admit that fish was fresh and firm while the chips tasted delicious. If it had all been a bit less oily it would have been near perfection. Funnily enough while we were waiting, I was telling my wife that the sizzling coming from the fryer was not as vigorous as it should be (meaning the oil wasn’t hot enough). That was a bit of a shame because it would have given the fish and chips that crispness and more golden colour and less oily. Saying that we did enjoy it, and the experience was enhanced by the fact that we ate it sitting on the pebble beach, very close…. to the sea!

Simplemente wow no puedo decir lo suficiente sobre cómo increíble este fish and chips. Su equipo trabaja increíblemente bien juntos y las dos chicas que trabajan juntos en el punto justo tener. Been using this chip shop for years when we come down to our caravan always great food. Very close to the beach we would recommend buying your supper and strolling along the beach fish and chips never tasted so good. Well done mobs see you...

Tried a few years ago and decided to give them a miss . Revisited twice recently and both times food was very good . Best local chippy in my opinion

Soy un weekender en el Witterings. El típico "fish and chips" estaba cerrado por vacaciones, así que no tuve otra opción aparte de ir a Bracklesham para nuestro Viernes noche Cod y patatas fritas. No estaba ocupado, pero no tome mucho tiempo atenderme. Yo no creo que nada de ello en el momento, pero el muchacho parecía un poco lento. Que al final le dieron la orden juntos aunque algo parecía mal, pero pensé que era la manera en que estaba. Bacalao y patatas fritas no debería haber sido la cosa más difícil de fry y sirven en un chips!

A trip to the British seaside isn't complete without visiting a chippy. This is a short walk (3 mins) from the seafront, down the main road that goes into Bracklesham.

Arrived for a late summer trip to Bracklesham Bay and was a bit distressed by the bad reviews on all the local Fish & Chip shops. Noticed Mobys had been better reviews of late , so tried and were very happy with the outcome. Had fish & chips for lunch one day , and went back for chips to have with our home cooked meal a couple of days later. Good portion sizes, both fish and chips well cooked , cheerful, friendly young couple running it

Great fish and chips and a reasonable price- we walked a short distance and ate them looking at the sea.

We were told this place had improved. Worst fish and chips I have had in years. My haddock was grey and dry as though from previous opening. Cod for everyone else dry. I had to throw half away. Will not go back. Mobys had the reputation as the worst in country. We were told it was much better. Still think worse applies.

Enjoyed a Fish and Chip dinner on the beach on our first night on holiday. There was a bit of a wait but I always see that as a good thing because this is a popular chippy and good things come to those who wait... or something like that,

I can say, with some certainty, that Mobys is (by a distance) the best F&C shop in the village.I am local, I've tried them all and won't go anywhere else. Yes you will have to wait in the summer months and yes there might be times that certain items are not available but trust me it's worth the wait and any small compromise! Back next week!!

We revisited a year on after a superb fish and chips but for £5.40 the haddock was really small and slightly dried up. The only saving grace are those delicious chips which were freshly fried. Would revisit as sometimes it's personal taste or the fish itself.

waited over 45 mins for cod and chips and pie and chips, the service was a shambles,food was absolutely disgusting will never go to this establishment ever again,no apologies for customers being kept waiting for so long, but seemed to be able to accommodate locals that had phoned there orders through.they were not competent. enough to cope with the orders they had ongoing.below you ask is this a fast food place, not a chance i have never waited so long for fish and chips in my life, never again.well overpriced for what they serve up.

Excellent Cod & Chips. Batter, just perfect. We did have to wait for about 15 minutes , as everything was being cooked to order. Will phone ahead next time.

Cod was tasty (and skinless), chips were nice, curry sauce was delicious... but we had to wait 30 minutes, even though the shop wasn't particularly busy. Would definitely have again, but would phone the order through first.

Have been here a few times and reviewed before but i thought i should update and they now take cards! Since the 21st march they now take cards for a small fee of 20p. Glad theyve caught up and can offer this facility!!

I'm not the world's biggest fish and chip fan as it's always too greasy and the batter heavy. Therefore it was a really nice change to have freshly cooked, deliciously flaky fish and a nice spicy (but not too hot) curry sauce! The staff were lovely and even the customers were very chatty as well. A really welcoming atmosphere.

Fish was tasteless and chips were brown and had a burnt taste. They cooked it while I waited but it didn't taste very fresh. I wasn't impressed.

Great Fish and Chips. But Financially they haven't quite caught up with the 21st Century. No card facilities available. But fear not, the spar next door has a cash machine. And also they do cash-back too. Make sure you have some folding.

We have had take-away fish & chips from here several times, and it has always been of the same high quality.The cod is white & flaky comes served in a box with a wedge of lemon which is a nice touch.My mouth is watering as I write this..... yummy!!!!

One of the most remarkable portion of chips I've tasted - and I've tasted hundreds from all over the UK. The chips were wonderfully cooked, not at all greasy (my powers of description can't do justice to the beautifully fluffy texture), crisp (in the right way and on the outside) and with a fresh potato taste. It's a shame I can't get chips like this back home. I've only come close to this quality two, possibly three, times elsewhere in my life as a fish and chip fan!

I'm unsure what the previous reviewer was eating but we had Chips, Sausage and curry sauce from Moby's takeaway yesterday and they were some of the finest chips I've tasted.The portion size for the "medium" was incredible and the home made curry sauce made the meal that extra bit special.

This used to be my local chippy growing up and it used to be super yummy. On a recent visit back home I had to take a trip back down memory lane, I wish I hadn't. Chips were awful and overcooked, same with the fish. Don't bother visiting.

Admittedly this used to be pretty poor, but the new owners have transformed it! Completely ripped out all the gunk from previous owners and now serving fresh food and are much friendlier :) Try the homemade curry sauce - epic!

Until recently this chippy had won our 'proberley the worst chippy in West Sussex award'. Friends advised that it had changed hands. Rather reluctantly we decided that we would give it another chance. What a surprise! beautifully cooked fish (10 out of 10) and although not perfect (8.5 out of 10) the chips were very well presented and cooked. The 'standard' serving of chips was about twice the size of the other local chippies and easily enough for two, a little more expensive per serving but I suspect cheaper 'per kilo'.We have shopped here 3 times in the last few weeks and the standard has been maintained on each occasion. Surprisingly, except for the long queue/wait, the standard was slightly higher on our Friday visit. The long queue/wait shows how popular this chippy is becoming.Having now tried Mobys again it will save us having to drive into East Wittering for our Fish & Chips as it is an improvement on those two shops. Let us hope they can maintain the standard.

Looking forward to a rare 'fish & chip supper' we went to Moby's and based on past experiences, decided to have Huss. The portions we were given were very small, much smaller than usual, and the cost was £4.80, without the chips. The fish was inedible, chewy and black and rubbery and wouldn't come apart even when pulled hard with my fingers. Despite my reluctance to do so, I was forced to take it back, to be told that it was like that because it was the tail end of the fish! the did cook me a replacement (piece of cod) but only after I had pointed out that I had paid nearly £5 for fish that I couldn't eat. I can't understand why they used that part of the fish if they knew the potential was that it would be inedible. Definately won't be going there again - will go into Wittering for fish & chips in future.

I thought this place was going to be very good and when we went in the service seemed very good,but the food wasn't very good at all,tasteless fish and very greasy, chips were ok but not brilliant and very pricey compared to home which is Cardiff.

Friendly service cooked fresh, being able to walk down to the beach to take in the sea breeze whilst eating fish & Chip supper.

Having lived here for 15 years i have tried all the fish and chip shops in the immediate area. This was, about two years ago, one of the ones i avoided as the chips was frozen and tasteless and the fish soggy and oily. However, about 9 months ago Mobys changed hands, and so have th quality of food. The portions are bigger and better value for money, the fish is fresh. Haddock is line caught, the huss is locally caught and the cod is MSC certified. The owners and workers are friendly and helpful and spend hours cleaning and preparing fresh (none frozen!) potatoes for the next day and have been seen by some locals still in there past 11:30pm doing these task! I would highly reccomend this takeaway to any one.

This has (I believe) recently changed hands. The interior is now squeaky clean and the couple that were working in there were supremely friendly and very nice! The fish and chips were the best I've had in a long time. Well worth a visit!!!

Owners not friendly. I ordered large cod and chips, chips tasted like cheap frozen chips and cod was definitely not cod!I would never go back to this fish and chip shop.
