We booked last minute as we wanted a nice spot to eat dinner and we are very glad we came here. The service was great, the staff were really friendly and the food was excellent! Possibly the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. There was live music and the singer was brilliant, we really enjoyed our night and would recommend.

Very mediocre breakfast, we were a party of three and all ordered the full breakfast, wait staff a little lack lustre but not rude, we all had eggs with the breakfast, 1 poached which was hard, 1 fried like rubber and 1 scrambled which was the best of the three, some of the breakfast items weren’t cooked enough, some over cooked and the only item cooked well was the bacon and hash brown, beans were cold in ramekins and out of the three toasts one wasn’t even toasted, we were offered a reheat of the beans and fresh toast but it just wasn’t worth it as the general breakfast was poor, whoever was in the kitchen needs to work on there timings. We also had coffee and neither of the hot coffees was hot enough, this was a celebration breakfast for my daughter so other than letting them know the beans were cold and toast not cooked, I didn’t want to make a big deal of the poor cooking, I won’t come back and I don’t recommend this restaurant to others as just wasn’t worth the money we paid.

Staff were amazing! Food was fantastic. Went for a Mother’s Day afternoon tea. And it was made very special. The speciality cocktails are fantastic also!

Came here yesterday evening for dinner with my family and had a great dining experience. Lovely chilled out and relaxed atmosphere thanks to the wonderful service and friendliness provided by Kaelah. AND my daughter loved decorating her egg for Easter Sunday!!! Thanks and rest assured we’ll be making a b-line back here when we’re back in St. Andrew’s!!!

On holiday in St Andrews we were in the town centre and decided to go for a coffee. We chose to go into Mitchell’s. We waited to be seated and we’re left waiting and when we sat at a table we waited around 20 mins to place an order and not one person took notice of us this was anything bar good customer service as eventually we decided enough was enough and Walked out without being able to order anything and ended up going to the best place for value which was Greggs!

Absolute must if in St Andrews food was amazing and the best server ever kaelah who gave us the best dining experience in a long time highly recommend

Awesome meal. Big Forgans fan and this wee spot out fromt does not disappoint. Menu perfectly sized with great options all well executed. Lovely spot with great atmosphere. Had a great time at the class hosted by the lovely Ruth. The event was tucked away up in the Hide, which is a great space for small private functions. We got to make 2 cocktails from the list supplied and came with a nice deli board (all ingredients were delicious). We all had a great night with great service. I would highly recommend this class!

Such a shame as we thought we had found the perfect place for food. We had to wait 50 minutes for even a drink to arrive, the burger was burnt (dry and black on the edges), the gluten free sandwich was on normal bread so was sent back (another long delay), the poached egg was hard and cold.

Cocktail masterclass was great fun. Really enjoyed making (and trying) the cocktails with a deli board to keep us going. Definitely recommend for small groups. Many thanks to Ruth for being such a wonderful host.

Popped in for dinner on our anniversary and could not have enjoyed our meal more. Live entertainment added to the relaxed atmosphere, with fab service!

My friend and I had lunch at Mitchell's on Saturday and generally found it a bit of a let down, and overpriced for how the food was. We were seated quickly and the service was all fine, but the food and drink was lacking. My friend had a tumeric latte which was unlike anything either of us have ever tasted when having other turmeric lattes. Alongside the tumeric flavour was a very unpleasant herby and oily taste - unsure of exactly what was in it but it was not good at all! We both ordered the club sandwiches and agreed for the price and it being sold by a deli, the bread was pretty disappointing - it was like cheap sliced white bread. The chicken was pretty sparse considering that's usually the main element of a club sandwich, and it wasn't particularly flavourful either. I'd normally expect a club to be served toasted and warm but they were fairly minimally toasted and cold. I think they'd been sat out a while, especially since I asked for mine with no tomatoes and there was clearly small remnants of tomatoes in some of my sandwiches (I wonder if perhaps the kitchen staff had just picked the tomatoes out of one that was already sat ready to go?). We did agree that the chips served with the sandwiches were excellent and my iced coffee was good too. We didn't have to wait too long for our food and the woman who served us was great, and the atmosphere is very nice too. In hindsight I wish we'd brought up the issues at the time, but the food was of the sort where it wasn't great but it also wasn't outrageously bad and we were hungry for our lunch, so we just ate it all and accepted it. I leave this review in the hope that the management can take something from it, however having had a look at some of the other reviews on here it seems similar issues have been raised often but mustn't have been getting dealt with.

We went here for dinner last night and it didn’t appear to be full. They didn’t have the starter I had asked for so I chose soup which I was told was two different types, and then given one which wasn’t either of them. From the outset the service was very slow, the waiter did apologise and kept giving updates on when we would expect our food which was extended continuously. It was over an hour before we got our main course. Any time you tried to get attention he avoided our gaze, which when we finally were given the bill he actually acknowledged he had avoided us because he was having brain fog, and complained about the job from start to finish. When the bill came he had taken two glasses of wine off the bill in view of our lengthy wait. We did feel sorry for the staff so we asked if we could round up for a tip. Before this could be done he said he forgot to add his service charge, which to be honest we thought was quite cheeky after the whole ordeal. The food was good as were the drinks, but the service ruined it completely. We were upstairs and half of the customers were all speaking to each other about how slow the service was and how they too were being ignored, so it wasn’t just us.

Good food and great service from Howard

I enjoyed the coffee, the service was lovely. The GF Chocolate cake wasn't so good. The cake's texture was very much like a box cake mixture. The frosting's was very gritty with sugar. I would have thought the lovely restaurant, Mitchell's would have a better quality of desserts. I was disappointed.

Very disappointing lunch. Service painfully slow and once the food did arrive, 45 mins after ordering, we wished it hadn’t. The ‘grilled cheese’ was greasy and, well, under-grilled. The club sandwich was soggy, tasteless and generally tragic. The only upside was that they gave us a discount on the bill and they made a half-decent mocha. Our waitress was apologetic and pleasant but overall it must’ve been a bad day in the kitchen!

Lovely place. Food , I would say was pub like but nice all the same. We had burger and chips that was excellent. Howard , our server, was a character, and definitely an asset to the restaurant. The Manager, who help us with taxi numbers, was nice too. We'll worth a visit.

Cute shop, staff were nice (it was quiet) but the food wasn't great. Grilled cheese was greasy - it was melted cheese on soft bread, as we're the fries. The vegetarian soup that was served with the sandwich was a broth, which isn't a pairing I would go for normally. It wasnt exactly cheap either.

We went here for Xmas dinner. Table was booked for 4 yet the doors didn't open until 4-15. Not the best start. Things did improve as our waitress was super friendly, even though she read back our pre-order to us and it was completely wrong. Soup for starters was amazing, mains could have been hotter and pudding was good. Would come back to try again.

Three reasons the Mitchell was a good random choice for lunch: 3) Food was great (delicious Fish n Chips) 2) Atmosphere was great. 1) Howard our “Pepper Grinder” server was hilarious, knowledgeable and such fun. Made the experience memorable.

Very disappointed with our Christmas Lunch at Mitchell’s in 25th December. It cost £49.95 per person. We were on the second sitting and staff seemed a little bit frayed. We arrived a wee bit early and they took us through to a holding bar table...

We went for Christmas Dinner and it was AMAZING. The food was delicious. The staff were really friendly and attentive especially Gracie and Noah.

Thought in general the food here was pretty poor - we arrived to about 5 empty booth and multiple empty tables but trying to get about 4 different staff to allow us to use one for 45mins proved a challenge. The food was interesting - the grilled cheese sourdough was pretty much soft bread with melted cheese (doesn't work), the granola was basically a desert with chocolate sauce, biscotti and other sugary element which were far too over powering for a breakfast/brunch dish, and the yogurt was in low supply so very dry. The makeral pate bread was equally poor, the coffees were very average and not overly warm (one was specifically asked to be extra hot) and when I asked for some extra yogurt I got a small bowl of cream. So overall, not the best, shame as the interior is nicely done.

Paid £8 for ‘cannellini beans and three cheeses on sourdough’ however got given tinned baked beans with ready grated cheese on cheap white bread. I raised it with the waitress who said ‘yeah it’s normally other beans’ and walked away. Style over substance, I would avoid.

May have been a busy day, i like my coffee hot, unfortunately it eventually arrived luke warm. The place looks great though, little nik naks throughout the place. More character than Costa.

I cannot recommend Mitchel's enough! I sent a request for a high tea reservation in the middle of the night for that same day. I asked if they could fit us in and additionally if they could accommodate two gluten free people. Not only did they find a space for us on short-notice but they saved the gluten free pastry options for us so that they would not be sold out before our reservation time. The food was fabulous, the atmosphere was festive and the service was top notch. We had a fabulous time and will definitely be back.

The Scottish breakfast and flat white coffee were superb , arguably the best in St Andrews. Excellent service from Howard who was very attentive and also a real comedian . We would highly recommend a visit to Mitchell’s .

Visited for brunch whilst holidaying in Scotland. Great selection of food, freshly cooked and local, served by very friendly, able and likeable staff, particularly Howard who looked after us very well. Dog was welcomed and made a fuss of, decor was attract- would recommend.

We ate at this place that had been recommended to me and it was a success. We ordered the eggs Benedict and loved it. Reasonable price. There was a varied menu and I won't hesitate to return if I ever return to St Andrews. The place is charming with beautiful decoration and very friendly staff.

We visited St Andrews and decided to visit Mitchell for brunch and didn't disappoint. The breakfast was really tasty, black pudding was a standout and really liked the touch of the homemade beans with it. The only thing I could say was missing was a sausage, there was no lorne or pork sausage with the full breakfast but other than that it was perfect, my parter got avocado toast which she loved for a light bite. The coffee was really nice as well I had a flat white with gingerbread syrup and it was fantastic. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting St Andrews.

Food was ok. My wife ordered the Cesar salad with salmon, but it turned out to be smoked salmon, which she does not like. Our mushroom on toast app was ok, but we expected a spread, not whole mushrooms on bread. Menu needs to be more descriptive.

Decided to take my staff there for a spot of lunch and I’m extremely pleased that I did. From the start the customer service was excellent, staff were extremely polite and the food was fantastic. The two young girls who served us were extremely attentive. I highly recommend a visit.

The food was very good. I ordered the Wednesday special, flank steak, a bit grizzly but good flavor. My husband had the Shepherd’s Pie which he thoroughly enjoyed. The computers went down so getting a bill took quite awhile. Thank goodness for Howard, our waiter who was not only pleasant but fun had a fantastic sense of humor and took the dining experience to the next level! Hold on to that man!

Noah, our server, was excellent. We ordered two Burgers, very tasty, loads of chips. Gigantic vegan options abound as the girls had cauliflower grilled with beet root hummus. Plus special food requests (no onions) were handled cheerfully. Get some of this soon!
