Ming Garden Restaurant in Isle of Wight

Hadn't been in nearly 10 years but still a lovely authentic Chinese restaurant with tasty food and lovely customer service.

Overall, the food is very good. I recommend the fish-flavored shredded pork, seafood tofu soup and crispy duck. It tastes very good and my wife and I were very full. The waiter is also quite cute and her service attitude is very good. But something happened. The crispy duck was mistakenly recorded as a medium portion when we ordered it. We originally ordered a small portion. This is understandable because there were many people when we came and the waiter was very busy. When I When the waiter discovered the wrong order, he was honest enough to admit it, which was nice. . But the Chinese female owner of the restaurant was very strange. She felt that since we had finished eating, we should pay, even though the order was wrong; we ordered a small portion of duck, and we didn’t know what size the dish was, but as long as we finished eating You should pay, obviously there were some strange overbearing terms, but fortunately, I was refunded the excess money in the end because I insisted on doing so. The honest and lovely waiter is the reason why I gave it a five-star rating. Finally, this store has different payment options for Chinese and foreigners, for foreigners they can swipe cards, but Chinese people seem to only be able to pay in cash, which is funny, the pos machine was apparently available when I arrived, I saw The British natives are using them. When my British partner went to check out, the Chinese female clerk took out the POS machine, but when I went to buy the packaging box, she wouldn't let me use the POS machine 😂 smart Chinese

Very delicious dinner..the place is also very romantic and cozy..there are beautiful orange roses and nice smelling candles .a good choice .very satisfied!

Had to wait two and a half hour for food to be delivered

What a disappointing evening. I recommended this place as I had had very good meals here before. Despite it being Chinese New Year, we received no welcome. It was so cold that we had to keep our coats on and the service was dreadful. The two waitresses appeared out of their depth; we had to ask for cutlery and chopsticks, and no serving spoons were provided. One server was rude when we asked for the used plates to be cleared before serving the main course. The waitress didn't know how to open our wine bottle, so we had to DIY. Food service was very slow and mains arrived 2 hours after arrival, though to be fair, the food was tasty, plentiful and hot. We could not check our bill, as it was presented as one single total amount. We are not likely to return.

Do not come here if you fancy a night out! The restaurant was very cold meaning I had to eat with my coat on including almost everyone in the restaurant. (there were no radiators anywhere!) We were one of the first in and were still waiting as the last patrons left, people who arrived well after us got food before us,strange... The service we got was laughable, the food was mediocre, the fact that it was Chinese New Year and none of the staff were even bothered will mean we will never come back, there are loads of other restaurants to eat elsewhere on the island. The fact that we were given a total amount rather than a breakdown of the bill (6 of us) just sums up the whole total mess of the evening

I have never had an issue with new ming garden until this evening… They had given me the completely wrong order, the food was cold & wasn’t anywhere near as nice as usual, I was very disappointed and will not be going back there again!

Love this place, our favourite eatery, food is delicious and plentiful, staff are lovely, sometimes a little crazy but that makes for the wonderful relaxed atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend 👌

The BEST Chinese food establishment I have tried on the Isle of Wight. We have had several takeaways and eaten in a few times at this place and the food is always delicious. I have never had a bad dish served to me from here. The staff are amazing, always rushed off their feet with doing takeaways and serving inside but always very friendly. I always recommend this place to my friends.

After some confusion about booking, was shown to a back table, just covered by the building lights, drink orders taken straight away, food started following 5 to 10 minutes later. Food was good, plates are small. Room was very cold, even after eating. For the amount of money i paid i did expect to be able to take my coat off at least!

Rang up to book a table for 7pm but had to change it to 6pm so rang up to to rearrange and they had us down for 8pm. Arrived at 6:02pm and was told our table was given away because they thought we was no shows. Got put at the back of the restaurant, even though there was Jack all people in there. Half the lights were off! (maybe they was trying to save money because of the cost of living crisis??) The restaurant itself was stone cold, every person in there kept there coats on. The ladies bathroom was even colder and the seat was so cold I could of got frost bite! Everyone that went in there squealed when they touched the seat. The mens were just as cold and the taps were frozen. Food itself was amazing. I would never eat in again but would order take out.

Rather shocked at the experience. No one was in the restaurant. I had to ask for water as it wasn't offered (there was no offer of drinks I'd like). When I asked for the toilet, the waitress just pointed at no particular direction and said there which was into a dark hall as the lights were off. When I couldn't finish the food as it didn't taste that great, I was charged 50pence per takeaway box. So overall really disappointed experience. It felt more like a takeaway sit in at best and the food wasn't great.

Authentic and skilfully cooked dishes. Good size portions. Lovely ambience and attentive waiting staff. There was a large party booked when we visited which meant we hadn't to wait a little longer for service but we were warned when we rang to book, so fair enough. Great food and service.

Went there last night for my 60th birthday meal, 6 adults and 4 children, the food was excellent all brought out very fast, the waitress was friendly and did an excellent job sorting out who's food was who's, we had the most amazing night with delicious food. I can't fault them whats so ever, thankyou.. definitely will be back !!.. ps daughter is a vegetarian and was so much for her to choose from..

I have NEVER encountered such a rude waitress in my entire life, we were not welcomed from the offset . The order was taken which was an experience in itself , drinks were just placed down , no acknowledgement to whom they were for, when the food arrived it was literally smacked down on the table. We were out with friends from the mainland and we didn’t want to make a scene , but they sat opened mouthed in amazement and said they couldn’t believe what they were witnessing, even the table next to us commented how diabolical the young waitress was! She obviously didnt want to be there , and I wish we hadn’t. The restaurant was very quiet , I think we now know why. We will NEVER return to this establishment again .

Food was great but service appalling. We were expected to eat our main course off the tiny plates for our starters, when we asked for big plates were told we couldn't have them as it caused washing up! 😡 No one came to ask if our meal was ok or if we wanted more drinks or desert. Would NEVER go here again! Not acceptable

Good food, all the dishes were nice.

The waitress (wearing the black face mask) was very rude on arrival. We told her we had a reservation and she simply barked “it’s cash only ok?”. When taking our order, one item was out of stock so we were choosing another dish and she got impatient and said she would come back. She did not offer us drinks after we placed our food order. When setting the table, she knocked over the flower pot and just threw it on to her tray in an aggressive way. On to the food, the Ho fun was burnt. We had asked for no soy sauce and she said that’s why it was burnt, “onions are like that”. My wife and I come from a family of Chinese chefs so we know that is not how it is. She did refund this dish. The toilet had no toilet paper in the gents or the ladies. When we came to paying the bill, I asked for the receipt and she threw it at me. No words or pleasantries were exchanged by either her or the other young male waiter. The only redeeming features were the rice portion size was good and the place was generally clean. Worst service ever. Food not much better. An awful experience.

Shocking and appalling service received from the Chinese owner the minute we walked in. We asked for a table for three in the middle of a week evening and she completely refused us a table and said there was a big booking in EVEN though there were plenty of tables available plus more in the back! We offered to take a carry out instead and were left to look through menu and when I began to order and ask about the menu options and ingredients she was utterly rude and very unhelpful and professional and said no everything is same normal food…?? We dropped the menu and walked out

Have only had takeaway from this place but it is my go-to every time! Food is delicious, reasonably priced and always delivered very close to the requested time. The lady that takes the orders on the phone is also very friendly.

The food was delicious. We ordered one set meal for 2 and some extra dishes and the amount of food that came out was fantastic. (We had to ask for take away dishes ) for the left overs

Went here on the spure had a rude encounter with staff at the Indian restaurant opposite,. What a surprise. Nice clean place to eat, food took a bit of time to come but was not annoying. Excellent food options and tasted nice, well recommended best option. Finished off all the dishes I ordered!

For the quality of the meals and the options this restaurant definitely has a decent chef in the kitchen. I enjoyed every dish ordered and with a decent time to cook it would sit top on my list for Chinese restaurants. As for the seating, we sat up front and it didn't feel as authentic as the back but maybe next time we could switch up where we sit. The staff were amazing and the restaurant in itself was spotless.

Extremely surprised to find good Chinese food here on the island while on holiday! After a week in the UK, we felt the need to have rice. Everything we ordered was delicious - highly recommend the beef fillet with ginger onion sauce, lamb cumin and egg fried rice. Food was served timely and service was good. Will be back again the next time on the island!

Lovely dining room, good decor and clean. Ground floor access. On street parking and near public car parks. Extensive menu. Food is fresh and cooked to order. Bookings not needed and can accommodate large groups with additional large dining area at the rear. Delicious food and well presented. A hidden gem.

Well to be honest the title says it all. I ordered a massive order for my daughters family birthday get together. Food was cold, items missing. Egg fried rice had no noticeable egg. Curry tasted like veg water which was congealed and brown no spice no curry taste. Crispy beef mush. I rang up to complain no answer all evening. Next day I rang spoke to a lady who basically said I should of rang last night I DID Useless said she would speak to manager and get back to me . Few hours later a call wow impressed NOT nothing can be done, no sorry nothing basically said it is what it is . I was devastated could not believe wheres the customer service. My daughters 21 st ruined did they care NO. I said to the lady on the phone I'm leaving you a 1 start review she said ok ..... Some people AVOID RUDE STAFF, RUBBISH FOOD YOUR BETTER OFF WITH MICROWAVE MEAL

The lady smiles to customers who order take away but being cold and rude to customers sit and eat in the restaurant. She placed the wrong order but we are blamed not speaking loudly enough and she didn’t hear it. Ridiculous!!!

Decided together to go out for a Chinese meal and ended up in Newport we found this restaurant really easy and although we didn't book had no trouble in the staff finding us a table

When you order to collect, they will say 10mins. But will keep you waiting for 1 hour and still won't be ready. good food though

Mein partner and I had a meal there on Saturday evening. The restaurant was not very busy. There were maybe 4 small tables in use, some already eating and 4-5 people waiting for a takeaway. We waited for over an hour to get our food only to find out that they added a sea bass for £24 which we could not find on the menu for that price and which we had not ordered. They took it off again. . The plates were cold by time we got the meal and the food which took ca 10 minutes for all the 6 dishes to be served was cold by the time we ate as they did not have any hot trays to keep the food warm. Adding a source to the spring rolls took over 10 minutes again. Why? They just had to fill sone sauce into a dish!!! They did not charge us for the drinks but what could have been a good romantic meal was totally roiuned and I cannot recommend this place. We will take a wide berth around that restaurant on future visits!!!

I couldn't recommend this place enough! From the restaurant staff, to the delivery drivers, every member goes the extra mile to give an outstanding service. And the food is delicious!

Awful service received last night. When we arrived at the restaurant yesterday evening firstly there wasn’t enough seats for the number of people booked, the lady just tried pushing more chairs around the table and we had to put our foot down to request another table to actually fit us around. Food took over an hour to come out, they sat us by the door which had people coming in and out for takeaways, we were sat with our coats on! Having to ask multiple times for simple things like plates to eat our food from and a jug of water! The lady who was serving was extremely rude, didn’t seem to care that we had been waiting for ages! People were collecting takeaways and their ordered were wrong. The lady is taking on too many orders and cannot cope with it. Will definitely not be recommending them. Felt sorry for the poor boy she was demanding around. Shame as the food was yummy.

Such poor customer service - staff threw the food on the table. 3 sides came out then 30 mins later the mains came out by that time half was cold. A member of the public waiting for takeaway started serving the customers eating in it was that slow !!

The lady in the restaurant was very rude and abrupt. The restaurant was freezing so we were sat in our coats and the food wasn't great either. The one star is for the young boy who was working there who was also being shouted at by the lady.

Absolutely horrific take away. Chicken balls batter very undercooked. Chicken pink Some king prawns were raw. Ming Garden didn’t care. Offered us free chicken balls on next order. Do not recommend. Terrible customer service. Photos of awful food on their Facebook review page (go take a look). They will also being added to Google. Myself and my partner were terribly ill the following day. DO NOT ORDER FROM MING GARDEN !! Take away was recent Friday 6th Jan 2023.

Lovely egg fried rice, best I've had in a long time!! Been years since eaten here, sadly was very quiet. But good service and food was nice.

Didn't really like the food, it was a bit bland, salt and pepper prawns were not spicy in the single bit, noodles were greasy, service was slow and the waiter didn't have much clue of the menu, not cheap but not expensive, decent portions though.

Went as a family of 6 f9r impromptu meal - could not have been more impressed. We were given time to make our choices without feeling rushed. Our food was brought out piping hot, was very clearly freshly cooked - our son's beef and mushrooms...

Took 2 mins to get seated so that started well and then it went downhill. 5 mins for the waitress to ask us if we wanted a drink. 5 mins to get the drink. 5 mins for our order to be taken. And over 20 mins later we had not even got the starter which was a basic soup we so we paid for the drinks and left. There was 9ppl on one table eating. 3 people eating on another and a women waiting for takeaway so not really any reason for any deal

I ate at New ming Garden with my family and it was one of the best chinese good I have eaten. 10/10 would go again.

Tried to phone through and was out on hold for 10 minutes hearing them laugh and joke in background. I decided to go in to order. All though amazing prices I paid £50 for food. The food was the worst Chinese I have ever had. We were left with only one person eating their food. Bland and the beef with oyster sauce tasted like it had gravy granules and oxo cubes. No flavour whatsoever. Really disappointed. The hot and sour soup was like a beef gravy. The chips were like they were cooked 3 days ago.

Very good food and very personable service

I love the decorations and Chinese music playing while dining in. It felt like home. Food was served pretty quickly and although the quality of food needs some improvement, I'd be visiting again just for a taste of home. Dimsum menu is also available and price is also reasonable.

Couldn't by a 7£ meal as I don't have cash and there is 10£ minimum for card payments. Disappointed 😒

I’ve ordered 4 takeaways from here. First one the wrong food was delivered, we opened it and called them immediately they came back with our food then took the food straight to other customers (after we’d opened it all!) Next order was over an 1 1/2 wait (despite being told 30 minutes!) 3rd order was fine and on time, 4th and final order was told 45 mins (I had a child waiting to feed so agreed so long as wouldn’t be any longer). 1 & 1/2 hours later they called to say 10 more minutes, 25 minutes later they called to say another 10 minutes, finally after 2 hours they arrived. Despite the food being ok I will not be ordering Take Out from them again.

If I could give 0 stars I would!! Ordered over an hour and a half ago and food is STILL NOT HERE. Got told it be 45 minutes and an hour and 10 minutes goes by no sign so call up and get told be 10mins and still nothing! My 5yo daughter has been waiting for her dinner , last time we ordered took 1hr 10mins to arrive . They used to be good but now their services are shockingly bad . We are a 5 min drive up the road (if that) and only ordered for delivery coz thought it be quicker than us going there (walking) but clearly NOT ! Will NOT be going to them again !!

This is the best chinese takeaway I have ever eaten. We are here on holiday and we ordered it for the first night. We had a chicken curry, fried pork noodles and shredded crispy chilli beef. Wow. Just wow. Everything was FULL of flavour and it wasn't dry at all or slimy. The beef wasn't oily and it was nice and spicy. The noodles and curry were fantastic. If I ever come back to the island I would definitely eat here again. 100% would recommend. Well done to the chef. This is how all chinese restaurant should be. 🤞 p.s wish they served dumplings!

First visit and we all loved the food. Portions were good. Staff were helpful and made adjustments (allergy, spiciness etc) without fuss. We booked a table. Good value too.
