Minerva in Kingston upon Hull, City of

Party of four whent last Sunday the 19th we have been quite a few times before and have always found the experience very good but unfortunately this time we were very disappointed with two of the meals. Two of us had the meat pie which was excellent as usual the other two had the Sunday roast and found it to be at best pour the veg was rock hard the yorkshires weren't much better and the meat was not very nice both the beef and the lamb were scraggy. We should have said something but we didn't and just hope it was an off day we will certainly will be going back in the future but not having the carvery. The staff and the service were excellent as usual.

Great pub food and fantastic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie is in the top 10 list for me. Always rotating the cask ales so a new craft on tap to try every visit. Good atmosphere with a lot of history. Summertime has outdoor seating and it is on the marina with a great location.

Warm, cosy pub with amazing home cooked food and the friendliest staff. Have adopted Minerva as our regular, love popping in here after a walk around the marina. Be sure to book a table as it’s always busy! ❤️

I visited with a friend on a night out and we very much enjoyed the fish and chip basket. I’ve been here before and the food never fails to satisfy. As an added bonus the weather was lovely so I got to enjoy my food and beer in the lovely outside area. Service was prompt and staff were friendly.

Not a dog friendly pub staff member was rude and wouldn’t even offer to serve me outside so had to go elsewhere wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

Been advised to give this pub a try for food. Did not disappoint. Good range of homecooked pub food and a great selection of drinks/ales at the bar. This is an old style 'real' pub. The staff are really friendly and happy to have a conversation. Morris dancers provided some entertainment outside for the evening. A really enjoyable visit.

Visited and sat outside as couldn’t get a table inside. Food was fine, nothing to get excited about . My first visit since about 2017 when I asked about baby changing. Not somewhere I think I’ll be going again.

Went to the Minerva 3 times over the course of a week's stay in Hull - twice in the evening, once for Sunday lunch. On all three occasions the food was fantastic and they have a great menu choice. Unfortunately, on the last night, we couldn't get a table until 7.45pm. Not a problem to us until we came to order our desserts, only to be told we couldn't have one as it was after 8.30pm! We complained but was told "it's stated on the menu". None of us had noticed this as we had ordered form the specials board where it is not stated. It seems to me that if you have already ordered your main course, you should also be able to order your dessert, especially as it was only just after 8.30pm.

Terrible Terrible Terrible Tough meet on all the Sunday Roast. Hard carrots Microwave Mash. Like Tesco Just dreadful. Fish not fresh I hate wasting money £90.00 for 5 meals & a few soft drinks absolutely disgusting These guys are supposed to be professional caterers NO WAY. I could go on Don’t wast your money

Have been to the Minerva several times and had a really good meal, went with friends for Sunday Lunch and was very disappointed, Chicken was good but my husband had beef and it was just okay, couldn’t cut the potatoes with the knife very tough, I do like a meal on a hot plate , not lukewarm, staff were very good. Absolutely terrible food went to enjoy a nice afternoon out with family and it was just appalling no flavour whatsoever very bland nasty watery gravy hard chewy meat, hard potatoes and what tasted like instant mash my husband had the fish platter that to was not very nice either needless to say he was very unwell after 20 mins very dissapointed 😞

Had a meal here using the Help Out to Eat Out Discount. Place was busy but I felt the way the staff behaved with Covid restrictions was some of the best I have experienced (probably had about 10 meals out in August due to holiday).You order at the bar, but the staff were very pleasant and quick enough to attend to any needs. We felt prices were very reasonable at the full price. We ordered starters, all going for the panko prawns. These were tasty. Everyone enjoyed them. The mains were was absolutely spot on too. I, (along with my Dad) had the fish and chips basket which was very well cooked, batter light and crisp with very fresh fish. My Mum had gammon, pineapple and egg. This was a very big piece of gammon and looked delicious. My son had roast pork sandwich and this was more than enough for him (a small teen). I overheard people saying how nice the pie was so I am going to try that next time.Drinks were served quick enough, no complaints about anything. We all loved the meal and will definitely be returning to try other dishes.

My wife pointed this pub out- my first impression wasn't great because we wanted to sit outside and there was a lot of building work going on nearby. My partners visited here quite a lot before lockdown, for me tonight was the first time. Food was Really nice, got fish and chips and Cajun chicken salad. But the queue to order was ridiculous, waited at least 25 minutes, the place we were sat (small area to the left as you walk in) had people queuing right back to our table right in the corner. No social distancing really, you’d think they would’ve queued outside instead. Waited far too long to get served and just didn’t feel comfortable which is a shame....even once we’d finally been served for drinks had to wait another 15 mins for them to be brought over. Didn’t get a check back on our food either, thank god that it was all nice! Don’t know if it’s more staff you need or a better structure for covid, hmmm. As an assistant manager of a restaurant for the last 5 years, I hate leaving negative reviews because I understand busy periods however this was a tad ridiculous, didn’t seem that busy as there was a lot of spare tables but it seemed that everyone was queuing right next to our table which we didn’t like at all nor did we feel safe

Family of four with two kids who generally eat burgers in restaurants as they're not keen on trying other stuff yet. Fine, Minerva do burgers. But wait.. not today as they don't do burgers on a Sunday.Not sure of the reason - seems a bit odd but could be a supplier/freshness measure? Maybe they get them fresh daily. Shame as they sound brilliant on the menu.Anyway, they had the fish and chips which was great, as was the Cajun chicken. Good portion sizes.Veggie options sound great including home made chilli which I had. It was actually ok, just a bit on the safe side. We we're especially looking forward to the desserts on the menu - apple crumble and custard, chocolate brownies, sticky toffee pudding etc. As we were celebrating a birthday, we wanted a treat so had opted to skip starters in favour of desserts.Now, I *really* wish they'd have told us at the start there were few/no desserts left when we first ordered. I even asked when the server collected our plates if I should go back up to the bar for desserts (as we weren't asked if we wanted anything else) and she said yes, just come back to the bar. Then when I did, I was told they only had treacle sponge.. Honestly it's great if you've been busy enough to sell out in these testing times, but at least tell people. We were planning on having desserts and another round of drinks, but we were a bit disappointed and we left.Best points: great staff (a young lady saw the sun in my daughter's eyes and asked us if we'd like to move - thank you, very attentive and kind) and £45 for 4 mains and a couple of drinks - good value. The food we did have was good, to be fair and piping hot. It's a great building and a proper pub where you can relax, not a 'bar' or a hipster joint and we shall return. Just not on "no burger or desserts Sunday".

Enjoyable meal out in strange times with social distance measures in place. The steak pie is pretty special, homemade chips and loads of gravy just takes it to another level. Friendly staff and a good pint made it a great place to spend some time.

In current climate we decided to visit a place we could trust. Not only for good ale and food but because of their high level of COVID precautions. All the staff, especially the doorman were so helpful and diligent. We called for a drink but were so impressed with them we stayed for a meal. We can thoroughly recommend the homemade Steak pie with beautiful fresh vegetables.

Love Minerva anyway but with what’s going on in our crazy world at the moment,they still deliver tasty food!!As the pub is currently closed,they’re now offering a Sunday dinner takeaway,I’m vegetarian & I got a Sunday roast with veggie sausages & a good,separate helping of veggie gravy,it was fabulous!! Can’t wait for you to reopen,stay safe everyone & thank you!

Always call here for a drink on our annual trip to Hull. Great location down by the river. Haven't tried the food but it looks good. Good selection of real ales, worth calling in.

Minerva is great. Atmosphere, location, staff all great. Good is great but I have to judge on this visit and my individual disappointment. My wife had fishcakes, which she said was not the best she had but they were tasty, I ordered the steak pie and they had none left. I was gutted. The pie is the best pie ever and I could not believe it. I changed to mixed grill which was ok but is not he same. I ordered a malbec wine and they didn't have that either!!Not my night. So it was not excellent as usual. My wife pointed out I should have preordered the pie and hindsight is a wonderful thing. So do visit this wonderful place but do not have my pie.

Visited Minerva numerous times drinking but never eaten there, visited with the Mrs the other night and was more than impressed, food is all fresh and homemade and very tasty. Would definitely visit again and try something else off the menu!

Popped in for a lite lunch. My husband had vegetable soup which had loads of fresh veg, said it was lovely. He also had the sticky toffee pudding which he said was the best he has had, not swimming in caramel sauce which usually smothers the flavour of the pudding. I had the prawns with a garlic dip, once again congratulations to the chef for not swamping the side salad with that horrible dressing you usually find. Again reasonably priced, a lovely cosy pub full of nooks and crannies.

We took my elderly Mum and Dad Just before Christmas for a meal.The fish and chips and meat pie were all delicious.Its great my Mum can have a pot of tea and Dad can have a pint.The staff were lovely even though it was very busy.All the food is home cooked and beautifully presented.We will be back.

When in Hull this is usually the first call for a beer and often for last orders too. I love this historic old place looking out over the Humber, great staff and a fine selection to drink. This is a great place for a meal, the fish and chips is to be highly recommended.
