Miller & Carter Hereford in Powys

Extremely average meal and nowhere near the standard we are used to in our local Herefordshire pubs and restaurants. The staff were lovely but the food, cleanliness and quality were all poor. You are greeted with a notice about how customers should be dressed but there were crumbs all over our seats and table. Lettuce wedge had a whole side of brown where it had been cut; peas were hard; steak fatty; chips not fresh. It was the sort of meal you would expect in a chain pub but with a higher price.

Three of us eating dinner at 1945 on a Bank Holiday Saturday evening, Restaurant very busy, we were made very welcome and drinks ordered came quickly, We all had starters and steaks , steaks were brilliant , only 2 little issues the sharing breadboard, bread was warm but very very crusty, almost to hard , and no vinegar despite asking three times for some it did eventually arrive, apart from that the food was excellent as was our server

My last review was really negative after a very bad experience. After a break away we have been back twice, the latest being in Feb. Both subsequent visits have been better, not as good as the first time we went to M&C but certainly better than my birthday dinner. Again, initially shown to a rubbish table despite having booked in advance and the restaurant being over half empty (on a Thursday evening). We were seated in a better spot without any fuss. The service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere fine given that it was not very busy. Food was good - rib-eye steaks were fine and cooked well and trimmings all good apart from cold stale fries on one dish so we shared the fat chips from the other as there were plenty for us. No Bearnaise sauce available which was a shame but the two sauces we chose (red wine and dripping) were fine. In general a visit to Miller and Carter does not feel as special as it used to (and in my view should). In particular the quality of the steak is not as good as it used to be. The restaurant is quite expensive for what it is.

Came with my family and boyfriend for my 19th bday and it was so good!!! 🤩🌟 Tom was serving us; very professional and really friendly and kind!! Jenna was helping out here and there and brought me such a lovely personalised desert, again she was super friendly and kind!! Honestly such a fab experience with quick service and delicious food. My whole family really enjoyed it ☺️

My wife's steak was full of gristle and tough. Her chips tasted strange and had the texture of a previous day's leftovers which had been reheated. My lamb was tough and underseasoned. That's our last visit there, ever.

This was our first visit to any Miller & Carter and had been led to believe it would be a wonderful evening ... ( certainly working on the menu price bracket ) We arrived for a pre-reserved table and waited for quite a while in the entrance as there was no one at the desk. ( Not a great first impression ) Several staff walked past doing their duties but no-one stopped to acknowledge us .. even if to say someone will be with you shortly ... Not the best start for a restaurant I was led to believe was a class above the usual high street venues. Eventually someone came and checked us in then took us to our table .. ( we had asked for a nice table for a special occasion ) which was as close to the kitchen as it could be without being in it ! They gave us a menu and disappeared .. no offer of a drink ... The girl designated to our table came and took our order and as it was a special occasion we'd decided to push the boat out and have the chateaubriand, cooked medium, and a bottle of red wine. The red wine arrived and was poured into our glasses ( which were different to each other ) .... no pre tasting to check it was ok .. pretty basic stuff for a decent restaurant in my view. The meal arrived, and was not overly hot as the lump of butter on the top of the meat didn't melt. The meat was cooked medium rare which might have been acceptable if the serving platter was hot to let the rare bits cook a little more but it was only lukewarm ... However, my biggest issue is that I am not convinced we got a chateaubriand ...( the restaurant was busy and when we ordered the waitress didn't think they had any left ) .... if it was, it is WORST that I have ever had !! I asked for some mustard which duly arrived in a little pot .. no spoon to use to put it on the plate ( lack of attention to detail ) I can honestly not remember the last time that I have commented / complained in a restaurant but it was shocking ... The "manager" gave a discount to help smooth things over .... The only positive of the evening was our waitress who was friendly and tried all she could to improve the situation but it was beyond her remit to fix .... Totally disappointed and underwhelmed by the visit.

From start to finish everything and everyone was first class. Very busy but wait times were minimal. Staff were all fantastic. Food was well worth the expense. Surf and Turf was perfection. Thanks.

We were staying in Hereford for a new year break and as we are regular visitors to our local M&C Sutton Coldfield and Hagley Road Birmingham. We decided to pre book the festive NYE menu at £64pp. Upon arrival we walked in to glance around and notice that there were diners wearing hoodies and trainers (always known M&C to have a smart/casual dress code) which being NYE we had got dressed up so we immediately felt out of place. We were ushered to our seat, and given a table right at the back of the dining room, next to the fire exit and disabled toilet. In front of the chaotic kitchen and next to spare chairs. We took a seat and found the table unsteady. We tried to steady it and it seemed to be the actual fitting and not the ground. My partner could sense I wasn't very happy however he's very reserved and doesn't like to complain. When the waiting staff eventually returned to explain the menu and take our drink order. We were offered a glass of prosecco which came as part of the set menu. I asked what the alcohol free alternative was as I can not drink alcohol due to medical issues. I was told it's pepsi or lemonade! When he returned with the prosecco it was brought in wine glasses? He then asked for our food order. I felt rather disappointed as we had only just received our drink as though it was a case of being hurried along for us to eat and leave to seat the next diners. We gave our orders, soup to start, then I ordered the filet steak my partner had the ribeye for our mains. The soup was way over seasoned. The mains arrived shortly after. We struggled to make sufficient space to eat as the bottles of drink that were empty had been left on the table. Both myself and my partner agreed the portion sizes seemed smaller in comparison to a main from the regular menu. My steak was luke warm along with my fries. My partner's ribeye left alot to be desired he didn't eat his fries as they were too greasy and cold. I had the cheesecake for desert which again was mediocre at a push. My partner turned down his desert due to not particularly enjoying his main. As I previously mentioned we didn't complain as the restaurant was very busy, the staff seemed quite rushed and a little chaotic and to be frank from the moment we arrived we were unimpressed. My partner did give feedback on the email and he's not received a response. Unfortunately we are going to have to put this down to a bad experience and not return. Over £140 spent and a disappointing NYE dinner. My advice would be to eat elsewhere, we ate at the restaurant a few buildings down on the following day. We paid a quarter of the price and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Today was aweful. Spent 45 minutes at the front door waiting for a prebooked table, pre ordered meals coming out wrong and at one point sat with food but no cutlery as the resteraunt had ran out.
