! ! !Pruébalo no te decepcionará! !Neil & Elaine.

we were lured to this place by some very good reveiws, such as "best chops I have ever had"we walked into the front bar first and found our selfs in a scene from a western.we were ushered into the back room by a very kind old guy who obviously saw we were out of sorts.the back room lacked a bit of atomphere but was fine.we ordered a mixed grill between us and I headed straight for the chops they were well seasoned but realy chewy if these were the best chops you had ever had, you clearly need to get out more. The rest of the food was not bad, on par with anywhere on the Ladypool road but not special.prices were good drinks were cheap so still worth a visit but don't expect the best anything you have ever had.

Merry maid.... been a regular here for some years. Food used to be extremely hot and we gave feedback, they took our comments onboard and wow the food is banging and has been consistent. Raj and mick always serve with a smile and mrs kaur too. It is a family partnership which works well. They know their customers really well. Recent refurbishment helped big time. Perfect for friday nights with the lads. Not many places listen to their customers but these guys do and the atmosphere is decent too. Remember this is a pub so dont expect fine dining although some of the dishes put them big restaurants to shame. Great value for money and we will keep going. One recommendation would be cleaner w/c or somewhere for diners to wash their hands away from the w/c.

My wife was told about this restaurant so we went to try it out , and looking at it from the outside she was ready to run ! But as we had driven so far to get there i said we should give it a whirl . To get in you walk in through the public bar into the back room which is long and stark with very plain tables and chairs and televisions on the walls playing indian music , and there was a pool match going on at the bottom of the room ! So reading this i bet some of you are thinking NEVER but you would be wrong, you get your drinks from the bar and the land lady explains how things work, and she is delightful ! and then she gives you the menu and will suggest what to try, then you go to the hatch in the corner and place your order and pay. Well we had pompadoms and pickles and then the 1st course , we had fish pakoras and a small mixed grill , the plates were piled high and by the time we finished them we were already getting full ! I then had the mutton Jalfrezi and my wife had chicken pathia and although it was delicious we ended up bringing some home. Please do not be put off by the outer appearance the food is brill !!

We visited the Merry Maid for the first time last night with friends on the recommendation of their son who visited a couple of weeks ago while on holiday from New York. The place itself is very basic with paper table cloths and definitely no frills, but the food and the welcome are outstanding. The staff couldn't have been more friendly - in fact we were treated like we were old friends. The menu isn't huge, but there was enough choice for all of us and everything was delicious. The portions are enormous - we all came home with doggy bags which I'm really looking forward to later. The prices are unbelievably cheap including the drinks. We'll definitely be going back there and will encourage as many of our friends to go there also. A great experience!

Visisted the Merry maid with a friend on hearing about the great curries they serve. I am glad to say I was not disappointed. We did not have to wait long for our food to be served which not only smelt great but tasted great as well. The pleasant surprise was the price for the food. The Merry Maid is not exactly located in the nicest part of B'ham but we were warmly welcomed by those drinking and eating there. It is a traditional pub serving great food so ignore the negative reviews and treat yourself by venturing down to The Merry Maid. My tip to anyone visiting the Merry Maid for the food would be to let the chef know how you like your food when you order - low, medium or very hot.

We live in the north of the city & visit The Merrymaid regularly, with last night being our most recent. We have never had a bad meal here. The gaffer & his missus make you feel really welcome & the general atmosphere is really nice. We usually have a large mixed grill & fish pakora for starters between 4 or 5 of us, & can't recommend them highly enough (which seems to be the general consensus from reading other reviews). The curries never disappoint, with the fish curry being a group favourite. The portion sizes are huge, the girls usually share a main, & the boys usually have to admit defeat when trying to clear their plates (meaning the kids fight over the doggie bag we bring home). We travel from the other side of the city to visit The Merrymaid, but it's well worth going out of your way for!

Been here many times and the food is always excellent. Fave dishes: Mixed Grill, Chili Chicken and Mutton Karahi. The Biryani is particularly good, much hotter than the mild dish served in most Asian restaurants. In fact, all the dishes are fairly hot except the three listed as mild in the menu. And of those, the Butter Chicken is delicious! Try the fish pakora as an extra dish and share it!The menu isn’t extensive but covers most of things, and the chef will usually accommodate requests anyway. The breads are merely “okay”; maybe an area where they could make a slight improvement.Portion sizes are about as good as you’ll get anywhere.Prices are as reasonable as you’ll find anywhere. As others have hinted, this is no palace and this area ain’t Mayfair; it’s a pub in Brum. If you want glitz and bling and all that bull, don’t come here: if you want great food, plenty of it, and at a reasonable price, give it try.

Having read some pretty damning reviews for a large and rather ostentatious-looking establishment nearer to home my eye was caught by the excellent reviews for the Merry Maid. Once it had dawned on me where it was our plans were switched and we phoned to book a table as it was a weekend night. As others have said, this is a fairly down at heel local pub. Not exactly sawdust on the floor, but not that far off. What it lacks in swank it makes up for with a warm , friendly down to earth atmosphere and truly delicious food. Being a greedy fool I ordered both a small mixed grill and fish pakora for starters for 3, followed by a curry each. Small obviously means something different to the generous hosts of the MM . Both starters were top notch with a perfect balance of heat and flavour. We moved on to keema with peas, a lamb and spinach balti and butter chicken. The butter chicken dish was to die for - probably literally as I suspect the calorie and saturated fat content is pretty lethal. What a way to go though! If you are not weighed down by an excess of airs and graces then I cannot recommend this place enough. Ignore the drab surroundings and give your stomach a real treat. I should add that service and general friendliness of all the staff was great.

Got asked out for a curry last night and went to the Merry Maid Grill and Bar - what a fantastic meal we had. We went for the mixed grill and fish pakora for the starter to share between us as a group and the Chicken Tikka and the Sheesh Kebabs won my vote - they were delicious. The men in the group also loved the chicken wings and the lamb chops - I can assure you there was nothing left to go back to the kitchen. We then had a selection of curried dishes so we could all try a good mix of what they had to offer. I have to say my favourite was the Chicken Biryani - brilliant flavours that left your mouth tingling and wanting more. So as a group we can heartily recommend this as a venue to go and eat good honest well cooked food, with great service.

I've visited the Merry Maid more than enough times to count and all the times I've been welcomed by the lovely owner Mick, a very nice Sikh man. I've ordered in the past chicken currys and a small mixed grills (which was excellent value for money and very filling). My dad always has a few pints with his meal and he likes the atmosphere. The curry is a little spicy but that's how i like my curry, with a kick in it. May I also add that my dad enjoys the beer here. In December i brought my family here (about 12 people) for a birthday meal for my uncle and since then they've already been back.We ordered way too much food because portions are big here but we were more than happy to have doggy bags for food the next day.

A delightful local, good food with selection of grilled meats, good beers, whiskeys, ciders and posh plonk. Owner is a jolly Sikh chap who is very welcoming. People are very friendly and you can while the day away chatting and socialising. Much better than some up market restaurants I've been to in the City Centre. Drinks are below average price so fantastic, food is standard priced in comparison to similar pubs I have been to when trying to forget how ugly the last girlfriend was and why I sunk so low. I spent less than £20.00 and got my money's worth here. All in all, much recommended.

Super fast service with freshly cooked food and more importantly the food tastes amazing, great quantity which matches a very reasonable price. I never usually write reviews but I had to as I am so impressed!

It is a bit of a not too smart local, beware the loos. However, everyone is very friendly and cheerful staff. THE FOOD absolutely stunning, it shows up 99% of restaurants! Everything is freshly cooked with fresh ingredients unlike so many places. Every dish has a different complex flavour. Very generous welcome and portions. I won't mention the prices in case they put them up!We went on a Sunday afternoon, the landlord is hilariously funny and is better than most famous comedians.

I've been coming here for around 3/4 years now and let me give you an honest review. On first impressions you will definitely thing where the hell am I?As you walk in the bar area is always crowded as there is a pool table there and all the regulars are playing and having banter trying to stay as the king of the table. They are all friendly people and there is a good friendly atmosphere. You have to walk around to the back to get a table for food. My advice is to call up and reserve to avoid disappointment. The decor isn't great and neither are toilets but don't let that deter you as the food is fantastic and great value for money. The mixed grill is amazing and you must try the chilli chicken and fish pakoras.Drinks are reasonably priced and the owner Mick and his team make you feel welcomed. They also offer a takeaway service which is great, my advice is to call up and order it so you can pick it up and go otherwise have a drink at the bar and watch a couple of games of pool.

Myself & my brother went to Birmingham for the 1st time for a curry weekend, bumped into some lovely locals who persuaded us to cancel our planned restaurant and visit this place. Well I have to say what a brilliant brilliant experience we had. Yes it looks like a local pub, it is a local pub, but by god did they put out some amazing tasting food. We ate in the back room which was full of people sitting at an eclectic array of tables. We ordered the fish pakora under recommendation and it was unbelievably good, fresh, light and tasty. Then I had a chicken balti and my brother a lamb madras. There was a bit of a wait as it was busy but it was worth it. Amazing tasting food, great flavors and plenty of heat which we liked. I have to say that if you were staying in a hotel in the city which we were you would never come across this place, but if you want to do something different I highly recommend you get a taxi here and enjoy the food for what it offers. We for sure will be going back.

This place is fairly small and looks busy most nights so I went on a Sunday afternoon when it was quieter. There is a front bar, and a back room with tables and chairs that you get to through side entrances from the outside. Functional, unfussy and a bit rough around the edges, but with a TV to watch Midsomer Murders while you wait for your food to arrive. You order food and pay for it at a serving hatch to the side of the bar. The menu is short by 'Indian' restaurant standards but covers most of the bases, including some vegetarian dishes. I had the "Fish Curry" with a pilau rice and a roti (flatbread with ghee) washed down with Cobra lager at about £3 a pint. The food was properly good – fresh and fragrant with none of that bland reheated taste you get with lower quality curry houses. Spicy too, about the same heat as a standard Madras, and a generous portion size of it. The main was about £8 (though there are cheaper ones), the rice was £1.80, and £1 for the roti.

Have had a lot of Mixed grills from South England to north and never have I tasted anything as juicy, flavoured and FRESH as last night. The food is simply amaizing, can not find the right words to express how I feel about this place now. 1 Bad thing though, as I told the owner - Merry Maid has made me realise what real Indian food Should taste like and therefore put me off all other places as it can not be compared to any other bar or grill!!! Someone described this as a spit and sawdust boozer. Well it has that look and feel but the food was excellent so depends what you want. Heard about it on Radio 4's food programme so thought we would give it a try. Driving up we had a bit of an omg moment but we sent in. The dining are is in the back room, you get your menus and order food at the hatch, and drinks from the bar. Portions are generous to say the least. Between four, we had a large mixed grill, two mains and a massive biryanni plus popaddums and 2 nan for £38 and we took half of it home. Reminiscent of how balti houses were when we moved to Birmingham 25 years ago. Uber basic ie paper table cloths, basic surroundings, sincere service and excellent food. The biryani was superb, the mixed grill a gem and the chicken balti a flavour fest and the mutton saag was sweet, tender and well seasoned. Best of all, the food wasn't swimming in oil which it often is with your average takeaway. So often curry houses have become pretentious, up market restaurants with more style than substance but this place retains the ethos and atmosphere of the real deal. Change nothing. We're coming back. Make sure you book on a Friday.

After scouring Trip Advisor, I decided to give the Merry Maid Bar and Grill a try. And how pleased I was that I did! I ordered a small mixed grill to takeaway with a portion of fries and was initially suprised at the weight of the bag I was given, as it was pretty heavy. So far, I'd have to say it was the best mixed grill I've tasted. Everything was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I have to say from the outside it looks very shabby, but the taste and quality of the food lets you forget that! I will be going back.

Most of the reviews on here are accurate. The Merry Maid is a small pub which has an Indian grill menu. A friend recommended it otherwise I'd never go near it. It looks terrible from outside and isn't much better inside, very worn. The service is very pleasant however. However I came for the food and the food only. Don't expect fine dining, expect a school canteen type table covered with a paper table cloth. The food is amazing. The mixed grill is the biggest load of meat you'll ever see. It can't be designed for one... As a starter it filled 5 of us and we barely had room for mains. We're not just taking size but taste too. I had the chicken jalfrezi which was nice. Friends had the fish curry and veg biryani. None of us could eat more than half of our meals. I'll know for next time to order less. They pack the left overs to take away. You can also use the place as a take out. The prices are very cheap. 5 of us with fish pakora and mixed grill stater and 5 main meals with sides for everyone was less than a tenner each. If you go understanding what it is like you can't go wrong. Will be returning for sure.

OK, let's get it clear,. deluxe dining it aint! I was introduced to the Merry Maid by a Sikh friend of mine who described it as a 'dodgy pub'. Well, it isn't dodgy but it is a pub!My last visit was on Dec 23rd. and the place was packed - so packed that it was an obstacle course to get out! I had a 'small' mixed grill (chops, seekh kebab, tikka and chicken wings piled up high) and a naan bread. All was just perfect., but I struggled to finish it, there was so much!Don't expect fine dining in elegant surrounds, it's plain and the back room is quite Spartan, if you want luxury go into the city and pay three times as much for poorer quality. Thinking about it DO NOT GO TO THE MERRY MAID - then I will still be able to get a table!

I come here on a regular basis and can happily say it is some of the best Indian cuisine in Birmingham. The location and decor may not suit all, and is far from classier appearing establishments in Birmingham such as Pushkar's etc. but the food more than makes up for it. The portions verge on epic and are surprisingly lean and not smothered with oil like some places. The mixed grill and chilli chicken are two of my personal favourites, but all the dishes are superb, with spice levels to cater for all tastebuds.

A place where you probably would go with the lads for a few pints and a grill. Simply no-nonsense backstreet boozer. Probably the only place this side of Birmingham, unless you want to go to West Brom for places like the Vine or Sportsman. If you're expecting fine dining and the atmosphere, then go somewhere else. Let me say this from the star, its not a restaurant, its a pub that serves food. The surroundings may be tacky, but its the company and food we go for. I'm there most fridays with my mates. It is authentic Indian food without the massive amounts of food colouring put in by many indian restaurants to please the western audiance. What you can't eat you can take away....portions are big....price is small !! The nepalese chef is friendly as are his helpers. If you are looking for fine dining go elsewhere....if you want good grub come to merrymaid. Friday/Sat evenening are busy well worth phoning in advance to ensure a seat. Sunday afternoons are a good time to bring family down as they are less busy.

Ok let's begin if you have been or heard of the Sportsman Club or The Vine PH (both in West Brom B70) & The Farcroft PH in Handsworth B21 then basically this pub/cuisine works on that same basis. This place is a small friendly old fashioned corner boozer that serves tasty indoor BBQ'd food & basic curries which you can wash down with a few jars or you can just easily takeaway instead to eat at home. This place serves BBQ/Curries all year round like most Indian family run pubs dotted around the northwest of Birmingham & in the Black Country. So to clear matters up for everyone this place is NOT the Ritz's michelin star restaurant or even your average plastic pub type eaterie ok. Regarding the comment below Tripadvisor regards any sitdown eating place as a restaurant so check by ringing before going if your a little unsure. Finally if you are bored of the same old Indian/Bangladeshi food on offer on the A45 Coventry Rd like me & the gimmicky free cheap ice cream & free Irish Meadow (poor man's Baileys) they throw in to wow people try this friendly place because the food is different but certainly hits the spot for a definite return visit soon.

We visited Fazenda on a Sunday lunchtime for a couples valentines meal. We can both wholeheartedly say without doubt this was a thoroughly awesome experience. The food is marvellous and the meats are truly exquisite. You can use the market table buffet with salads, sauces, cheeses and charcuterie, as well as hot and cold sides you order to the table. The staff are all very friendly, helpful and professional. The outlook and vibe of the restaurant is elegant and beautiful. It is one of the best meals we’ve ever had and cannot recommend Fazenda enough, go eat there, now!
