MemSaab in Nottingham

We love this restaurant and travel from NG16. (We cook a lot of Asian food ourselves so are careful about where we go to eat to avoid disappointment…my mum is the best judge here) Great service, considerate staff and respectful. Really felt the team wanted to help make our private party special from ordering to collection-catering for a family party. The gentleman who gave us the food on collection was very pleasant as well. We love the Baigan Bhartha and Zaika Gosht - delicious.

Welcome was sincere and the restaurant was not too busy and was warm without being uncomfortable. Drinks arrived quickly and we had help with ordering as one of our party had food allergies and needed to check their food choices were ok. Menu is varied and we all picked different things. Presentation was wonderful and the food was flavoursome! Everyone enjoyed the meal and the portions were just perfect so we didn’t have loads left over. Fresh peppermint tea was delicious too. Toilets are immaculate also. I also love the fact that you get hot towels as you first sit down and can freshen your hands before the drinks arrive. Staff are attentive without being overly so and the whole experience was enjoyable. I will definitely be taking my family and friends there again.

The food is perfectly nice but for the price you are paying you expect a more exciting menu - I’m not sure it has changed in the last 5 years. The restaurant is starting to look tired and needs to be refurbished- the wall I sat near had paint flaking off and the chairs were dirty. Better curry houses in the vicinity

Having been many times before and enjoyed the whole experience, we feel rather let down this time. The food was disappointingly bland and the naan uncooked. The staff were terse and couldnt suggest a main to meet my cousins wish to try something new. In short we felt an inconvenience to them.

This is a great restaurant with friendly staff and excellent food. We had the early evening set menu, which is perfect for a pre-theatre dinner. It was very good value with poppadoms and pickles pre-meal, then the starter and main served together on a platter with rice, daal and slices of naan. It was lovely presentation and delicious food. We will definitely be back to try the a la carte menu.

We arrived and were seated quickly at our table ,drinks came out fast we opted for the early menu set price and got 2 curries rice naan plus a starter each and the food was really nice lots of flavour not too spicy just perfect will return again and try some things off the rest of the menu

Great food, helpful staff (we got in at short notice on a very busy night). Not a cheap night out, but how many of them are disappointing? Got there in time for pre food round of drinks and a main course, which was very good. Four of us had different meals and all were excellent. Definitely return:)

Visited on valentine's day but was disappointed to know we were only allowed to order from the set menu which wasn't advised at the time of booking . The selection of items on the set menu wasn't ideal ,the wine was horrible I couldn't finish it and I only had one glass the food was over powering and just not that nice . I was so sad to have hated the whole experience we've never been out on valentine's for a meal so after 16 years I thought let's push the boat out. I thought the place was ment to be quite a posh restaurant but it really isn't anything special. I can honestly say I'll never visit again I'm still fuming I wasted over £100 on mundane small portion food with cheap wine glasses no better than what you get in your local pub

Booked to go with friends and it was great both for service and food! Although we booked for 8.45pm and got there on time we had to wait for another 25 mins. Not great but it was made better by being given complimentary bubbles as a way of apology. Once seated the service was great and not the usual “curry” menu - had some great items on there and ones that you wouldn’t find in the run of the mill restaurant. My wife had king prawns which were excellent, I had lamb shank, again excellent, and our friends had similar orders - all excellent. Price wise - really good value. 4 people with drinks (nothing silly) worked out at £160 total to include tips. Only piece of advice is book - it was really really busy but the above will explain why. The only missing star is because I was in on a Sunday night and it was fairly quiet. I eat here every time I come to Nottingham. The food is so flavourful. If you enjoy quality Indian food this is the place for you

Best Indian restaurant I have been to in Nottingham and up there with the best I have tried in London and Mumbai. Friendly staff, great spacious restaurant. The vegetarian biryani and daal were excellent and the meat eaters were very happy with their choices. Only negatives for me were the tonic water and very basic oversweet expresso martini. Its not cheap but I think very fair value given the business overheads. Highly recommended !

Christmas Eve and we have a lovely meal. Not been before but was very impressed. I think the only thing that would have made it more personal would have been how you paid. We had to go up to the bar area to pay, where a slightly grumpy man thrust a car reader at us. I’m being picky because the atmosphere, food, and everything else was excellent and I’d definitely be back. But if your are slapping 10% service charge on, at least be polite to your customers.

Asked what the special was, got told lamb and potato thing. Asked what the sauce was, got told tomato based. Upselling 100%. NOT. I went with Lamb Rogan Josh. Husband went with Chicken Tikka. - he likened it to Tesco micro meal, which would have been nicer and cheaper. My Lamb Rogan Josh was lovely, but when the Pilar Rice and Naan came out, which a month before was enough for two, it was somewhat substantial lacking:-(. On the basis of tonight's over priced meal, will we be back again, erm HELL NO. Sorry, as previously, previous month was SOO much better so NO. Xmas greed margins me thinks. Sad, but that's the fact.

This is the nicest place I have ever eaten at, the lamb dishes are to die for, the venue and toilets are very clean and there is a lot of variety, perfect place for a date night.

Popped in on spec & found it was a set Diwali celebration menu. Absolutely delicious meal, the lamb was melt in your mouth. Indian fine dining sat its best, will definitely come back.

Visiting Nottingham and searched Trip Advisor for somewhere to eat. The food was amazing. The Kerman naan was the lightest tastiest naan I have ever eaten. The staff were attentive but not obtrusive. Had a chat with the owner on her way out. Such a lovely person. If you are visiting Nottingham, you will not be disappointed if you visit

First impressions were great, very friendly staff and the atmosphere was nice too. We ordered drinks, and then some poppadoms, the poppadoms were served with black hair on the plate to which the waiter just glanced at it said nothing and took the poppadoms away! We were given some fresh ones but no apology whatsoever. The poppadoms were very soft and bendy, not the usual crispy ones we are used to being served elsewhere. The meal tasted ok, although I was put off by the skin left on the chicken. Not the usual standards, I would expect after paying over a hundred pounds for two people. In my personal opinion, I wouldn't judge a book by its cover. What I mean by this is the amount of awards on the entrance.

We were entertaining some friends who had driven down from Leeds for the weekend and we wanted somewhere nice to eat. I had been to Memsaab a few years earlier so booked a table. We were not disappointed, the food and service was really good. My friend said to me afterwards, the starter (mixed platter) was the best thing he had ever eaten at an Indian restaurant. It is quite a bit more expensive than your average balti-house, but for a special occasion it is well worth the additional cost.

Amazing food, extremely friendly staff ultramodern restaurant. The service is amazing and impeccable, I highly recommend a Tandoori mix grill. I cannot fault this restaurant in anyway whatsoever five star plus, the restaurant is extremely spacious with lots of room and a great atmosphere.

Tasty authentic indian food and fantastic service

The best Indian restaurant experience ever, from the charming staff to the ambience to the food, every mouthful a delight. Looking forward to another visit. Praised some years ago by the renowned food critic A A Gill and justly deserved.

The ambience was beautiful, in fact I'd say the cover photo on here doesn't do it justice. The service was excellent -, genuine recommendations on sides to help us not over order for a start! Polite, professional and warm. The food was enjoyed by everyone, mostly meat eaters plus me, one vegan. As food is marked as vegetarian and/or containing dairy, I was able to pick items veggie and no dairy and then check if they were vegan which they were - based on this, there's a reasonable amount of choice. When naans were ordered for the table and I said I don't have that as it contains dairy, the waiter very politely and kindly suggested to the group to swap one of our naan portions for roti so I could have some. Everything was just wonderful, I would go back in a flash. I wish I'd taken photos... but I did take a video of the toilet, you'll see why if you watch it! Never seen this feature before hahaha!

Good: Friendly staff generally. Good quality ingredients. Very clean toilets. Responsive management. Could be better: Staff could be more proactively attentive. Lack of continuity in service (customers who came in after us had their orders taken before us, and seemed to be given a different level of service). Chairs could do with a professional clean. Service charge shouldn't be automatically added to the bill. For the price paid I think the above comments are fair. Overall it's worth a visit, and I'd to thank the manager for the complimentary champagne after discussing our experience 🍾

Best Indian food, cool place. Service very friendly but seems like a bit of lost in translation, otherwise was great.

The manager along with the staff looked after us always checking if we are okay etc. Food was delicious, atmosphere was lovely I appreciate a restaurant without loud music on the background where you can have a conversation. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Make sure you try lamb chops.

Food and service did not disappoint. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Food was one of the best Indian cuisines we have ever eaten! The garlic chilli dish is a must! As a vegetarian, there were many options and portion sizes were generous. And to top it off, the staff brought out a cheesecake with a candle for the husband, which was unexpected but really appreciated! We had a great time and would definitely recommend this place to others. Only saddened by the fact it’s not closer to home but if we are ever passing by the area again, we would definitely visit again!

Brilliant service and very tasty food. Nothing too much trouble always anticipated your needs. We had a table of 5 and all dishes were delicious. I had a side dish of Dahl makhani which I thought was brilliant. Good value meal and service in nice...

We went for my partner's graduation dinner with family, amazing experience all round!!! The food was absolutely delicious and service was great from start to finish. Would 10/10 reccomend. Nothing like your normal Indian restaurant.

Wonderful presented and delicious Indian food, but best of all, is the friendly and efficient customer service.

Visited as part of a large booking (18 people) on a Saturday night. Everything went smoothly even with the large group and there being a similarly large group the same night. There was a potential mixup since it was two bookings for the same number both with the name Ben, but that was resolved quite quickly while on the phone. The tikka masala is a bit thin for my liking. The other two mains I had felt more than good enough.

I recently had a disheartening experience at a restaurant, largely due to the appalling behavior of the manager. His actions and attitude left me utterly disappointed and questioning the values of the establishment. I believe it is important to shed light on this incident to prevent others from encountering a similar unpleasant encounter. Upon entering the restaurant, I was met with a welcoming ambiance and an intriguing menu. Eager to try the food, I proceeded to take a seat and began reviewing the options. However, as I was about to place my order, the manager approached me with a condescending demeanor. It was apparent that he had formed a presumptuous judgment about my financial status. He proceeded to make snide remarks, insinuating that I could not afford the food at his restaurant. Not only was this incredibly disrespectful, but it also demonstrated a complete lack of empathy and professionalism. A manager's role is to create a positive and inclusive environment for all customers, regardless of their background or economic status. Sadly, this manager failed to fulfill these fundamental responsibilities. Instead of offering assistance or guidance, the manager's behavior left me feeling humiliated and belittled. It is deeply concerning that he would pass judgment on a customer without knowing anything about their circumstances. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, especially in a place of business. Moreover, such behavior reflects poorly on the entire establishment. It is disheartening to witness a manager representing a restaurant with such a disdainful attitude towards potential customers. This incident not only tarnished my experience but also discouraged me from ever returning to the establishment or recommending it to others. I urge the restaurant's management to address this issue promptly and take appropriate steps to ensure that such behavior is never repeated. Re-training and a reminder of basic customer service principles should be implemented to prevent further incidents that could potentially damage the restaurant's reputation. In conclusion, my experience at this restaurant was marred by the manager's appalling behavior. His presumptuous and disrespectful treatment was a blatant display of unprofessionalism. I hope that by sharing this review, it serves as a reminder to both the manager and the restaurant's management that all customers should be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their perceived financial status.

It was wonderful experience starters was very tasty and well presentable, In main course the provided 4 options palak curry, fish curry, mutton curry, and chicken curry in which I personally liked the chicken and fish curries staff was nice and helpful. Definitely will try more from memsaab some other day. I took only one picture of food which was sweet dessert which was very tempting.

Really nice food here and made a fuss over our young child - even a free ice cream for her.

My family and I went out to eat here on 2nd june (2/6/2023), we have never been mistreated this way before. My nephew has autism and all he did was blow out a candle as he enjoys seeing the light go out like a birthday cake; none of the other customers complained or mentioned being disturbed by this; yet the owner still kicked us out of the establishment. We very kindly asked the owner to consider the fact that he is a small child and he doesn’t understand but he didn’t even bother to listen to a word we had to say and embarrassed us in front of everyone that was present there as they forced us to leave.

Sorry to say we were unimpressed everything was over spiced and burnt your mouth , We expected better.

First visit in 5 years, i have fond memories of MemSaab, but I wasn't impressed on this occasion. The Masala tofu was hot from chillies but hadn't depth of flavours. The 4 side dishes that i shared for the main course were bland and over cooked.

The choice of food here was excellent. The service was great. The quality of all of our food was better than we had expected. One of the best indian restaurants I have experienced. Definitely recommended especially if you want a good vegetarian range.

Great meal, friendly staff and reasonable price.

Not quite lived up to its reputation but a pleasant experience. The staff is nice and even for a mid week early eve the restaurant was nearly full (restaurant week). The food was good quality. Pre-starters (poppadoms & chutneys) were tasty as were starters (paneer and aloo bahaji, reshmi kebab) but the portions of the latter were tiny. They came together with the mains which is not my preference. The mains (zaika gosht and lamb rogan fosh) were run of the mill, however, the lamb in zaika gosht was slightly dry. I was full and pleased after the meal but I was expecting more from "Indian fine dining". There are better Indian restaurants in Nottingham for slightly lower prices.

Surprisingly swift service, not hurried just efficient. The staff were friendly and professional. The food was very good quality, piping hot and the portions were generous. We went early evening on a Friday, around 6pm and there were already 5 or 6 other parties. It's a fairly large dining room with plenty of tables and despite the fairly low number of guests still had a good atmosphere. I would say that it's similar to two or three other restaurants in this row but I was most impressed by the snappy service.

Have been several time to Memsaab and will keep going back. Food is excellent everytime. Service is great and cost is reasonable. If you want great food here is where you need to go.

Brilliant meal best Indian meal we have eaten. Great service too and a gate for photos with wood that comes from India. The onion bahji was so good. I brought one to takeaway.

Delicious food and great service.

The best Indian dining experience I've ever had. The food and atmosphere are all 5 stars. The service deserves a special mention tho, as this is truly outstanding. They have a host of national awards displayed on the door and inside. Why anyone would go anywhere other Indian in Nottingham is a mystery (except maybe their sister restaurant that they advertise on the menu). Based on this experience I will try that next time.

First time going. I left it to my mum(86) and daughter(whos 24) to decide what to eat. They chose the set menu C as they liked the sound of trying several different dishes rather than just one. The starter came which was quite spicy but very pleasant. Then came the mains 6 or 7 different dishes. Looked very nice but after a few mouth fulls i couldnt really eat anymore. All were too hot for me and my mum. I tried to push on but they were just too hot and my mum gave up after several mouth fulls. When we ordered the waiter never mentioned they were all extremely hot(even the naan bread was covered in chilli) I would have thought they would have at least had some milder dishes in a selection of 6/7 but no. I suppose we should have asked but the description of each dish sounded nice but gave no indication of hotness. So it was an expensive evening with little eaten.

Delightful dinner experience just a short walk from the city center and Nottingham castle. Nice spacious restaurant with excellent service. Good selection of dishes to choose from, good description about the dishes on the menu (especially for us that are not too used to Indian cuisine). When you get offered the papdums, accept the offer or you will regret missing the excellent quality and flavour.
