Mediterraneo Restaurant in Brighton and Hove

Intimate cafe, the food was fresh and fantastic. Excellent coffee too. We bought some cake to go and it was lovely. We had high expectations after reading good reviews and it was worth the visit.

Guys, really a pleasant and amazing surprise in the middle of Portland Rd. Warm and friendly welcome. Tastefully decorated, well-kept rooms. Fantastic Sicilian ceramics and colors. A double and comfortable covered space. The food of excellent quality and preparation. Delicious! I tasted different products and the pleasure was immense. From coffee, to meat sandwich, to quiche, to tiramisu. Environment for couples, families and friends. the external part is also cared for and well maintained. At the top of my preferences now. Seeing is believing. Ciao for now!

We booked Mediterraneo for their Sicilian Wine Tasting Evening and was not disappointed! Run by an Italian husband and wife you will only eat authentic Sicilian food here. The menu doesn't change but why change something that is perfect! Each wine was paired exceptionally with each course and the owner explained the history of the wine and each region the wines came from. Having travelled to most of Italy (apart from Sicily) it was interesting to see how Italian food varies in each region, stepping inside I was instantly reminded of being back in Italy. Really enjoyed the Conchiglione Funghi, Ricotta e Noci ! The service is exceptional and I would highly recommend if you want authentic Sicilian food and wine.

We had a great lunch here on Saturday, the food was fresh and delicious, and the limoncello cake is amazing! Really friendly service too - looking forward to coming back soon, thank you :)

This place is a little gem, with great selection of cakes, lovely coffee and warm service. I have also had some special cake for my family’s celebration, and they were simply spot on!

Intimate and charming with endearing personality, this family run cafe is our new favourite stop for lunch in all Brighton and Hove. Very reasonably priced for food that is the perfect balance of down-to-earth and sophisticated. You have to try one of the cakes too. Hove's gain is Sicily's loss :)

Lovely food and staff, would say it mainly for couples and not a family which was great for us , Arancini Balls are very good , first time trying them and cant get enough

One of the best spots in Hove for lovely lunches, cakes and coffees. Food is wonderful. Cafe beautifully decorated, very friendly staff. There's also a cute garden if weather permits.

This is the best cafe in hove without a doubt. Delicious, fresh, homemade Sicilian food made with love, huge selection of incredible cakes, and a calm, cosy atmosphere, run by two of the nicest, warmest and most genuine people you’ll ever have the pleasure to meet. Can’t recommend it enough! Oh and also- the best coffee on Portland Road!

I booked this for my partner's birthday last October based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. This place is such a delight. A tiny, gorgeous restaurant on Friday and Saturday evenings only (so book ahead!), run solely by an Italian couple, it was like stepping back in time and into Italy walking through the doors. Super romantic for a special occasion! The food is fabulous and proper Italian (no pizzas though!).I couldn't fault a thing about our experience, the service is fabulous, the food is wonderful, the ONLY thing I would love to see is a menu that changes as I believe it doesn't change. Also another pasta dish as the one I had was SO GOOD. I would absolutely recomend this place. SO UNIQUE and when you go you will feel transported out of Brighton.

A fabulous experience with wonderful food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. This is a very small restaurant that welcomed us like long-lost friends. The menu is small but great quality and they are immensely knowledgeable about their food and their wine. As well as great flavours in the food, the presentation is beautiful.

What a find! This gem of a restaurant run by Giorgio and his wife is truly special. From the moment we arrived until leaving everything was exceptional. Giorgio looks after the front of house whilst his wife is the chef. The food is a modern twist on Sicilian cooking. Everything was prepared and served beautifully and washed down with a lovely, light Sicilian red. Giorgio explained every ingredient and was very attentive, even though they were almost full. Will certainly be back.

Dirigido por Giorgio y su esposa. Servicio muy personal, ambiente relajado y acogedor y comida y vino sicilianos realmente deliciosos. Es como ser invitado a la casa de alguien. We were lucky enough to get a table last minute due to a cancellation. The place is small but welcoming, and the food is lovely. We discovered that they are only open for dinner Friday and Saturday, so felt even luckier to eat there. The arancini were divine, the veal delicious and the torta al limoncello melted in the mouth. Go there if you can!

This is a belated review due to my laziness and time going to fast. My family took over the restaurant as there was 14 of us and this place is really small and cosy. Giorgios a d his wife were fantastic,he does front of house and she is the chef. All the food was excellent. It's no good talking about what we had because the menu is constantly changing but for all of our party to give this little gem 5stars must say something! The outside doesn't look that special but you enter a different world. Do book before going and be prepared for a wonderful evening which will tantalise your taste buds and leave you with a happy memory. I have just returned from Sicily which reminded me to do a review.

OK - So I ate here at the beginning of the year for my sisters birthday but kept forgetting to write a review.

Been couple of times and the service is excellent, Giorgio takes the time to explain everything on the menù, helps pairing with good selection of wine, and the fact that is only few tables upon reservation cuts off the rushing and immerse yourself in a great dining experience.

From the open and warm greeting of Giorgio to the earthy wine from the slopes of Mount Etna and the exquisite cooking of Signora Giorgio this was a continuous delight. After this, our first visit, we will return again soon ... a true gem.

this gem of a restaurant just off Preston Circus only has five tables and you need to book in advance, the menu is carefully chosen and changes regularly, the place is immaculate and the tables beautifully laid out . the service is excellent and advice carefully given. the food is of the highest quality and at no time do you feel rushed .

We decided to visit after reading reviews here on TripAdvisor and the reviews were not wrong. The food and wine were delicious and the attention to detail and level of knowledge and service we received is among the best we’ve had anywhere in the world. Mediterraneo is a charming and romantic place to spend an evening and we will definitely return.

Best traditional Italian restaurant we have ever been to by a long way...!

I am Italian and we like the food. Some improvement can be made to be on top of any Italian restaurant like la Tana but generally was good .

I wish we could give this more than five stars. I also wish we could keep this a secret. Exceptional food, service and value for money. Such passion and knowledge. Want to return tonight. Such a romantic and intimate venue. Book and go as soon as you can.

We had an amazing meal for my birthday here, run by a husband and wife, the food was incredible, the service went above and beyond and it had an authentic personal feel that I have not found before in Brighton. Thank you for the awesome dining experience and would recommend anyone and everyone there! They were also great catering for the vegans of the group (letting them know before we came).

Visited last night for the first time and had a fabulous evening .. Giorgio greeted us right from the start and was helpful and attentive through out the evening. Great food and wine definitely be back.

Estaba super emocionado después de leer todas las buenas críticas. . . y todo era encantador, pero cuando llegó la comida, mi corazón se hundió. No fue horrible, pero era normal. Los arancinis estaban demasiado cocidos y blandos, el pollo estaba seco y sin sabor, la lasaña solo sabía a tomate. Es una pena. Dicho esto, es un ambiente muy acogedor y romántico, y el camarero fue brillante. El vino era agradable. Y no es caro, así que aún tuvimos una agradable velada. Simplemente no volvería cuando hay muchos restaurantes excelentes en Brighton.

Managed to get a booking for six of us for a surprise birthday meal, everything was fantastic, such a cosy venue, the food is very good and moderately priced too, highly recommend

Every time we return it is a treat. A lovely husband and wife team Georgio obviously enjoys telling you about the wines and the delicately designed food. We spent another lovely evening with tasty food and delicate wines. A very small intimate restaurant. The best way to book seems to be via their web site as I find it hard to book any other way. We visited the restaurant for my daughters birthday which we booked by email and had a response straight away. Once we arrived we was greeted by name which I found was a really nice/personal touch. When ordering the owner had great knowledge of all wine and food.Which helped us decide on our dishes/wine.

I booked this rather late but so glad Georgio was able to fit us in for our 44th Wedding anniversary. Its a very nice small restaurant beautifully crafted to give I think a very romantic atmosphere. But it certainly is not style over content as the dishes served are delicious and beautifully presented. The service is excellent and it is clear that this is passion for the owner. The wine was exceptional and each course was brimming with flavour. The size of the restaurant means you don't feel rushed and gives that feeling of you being guests rather than customers. It certainly made for a very special evening indeed for us so I can only pass on my thanks and recommend that you make a point of checking this place out next time you are in Brighton (Remember you need to book in advance).

A friend from Brighton took me to this lovely family run Italian restaurant. The place is really small and very intimate. The food is simply delicious, they made us feel like we were at their house and the whole experience was excellent.

I never knew this place existed until some one recommended it.I went for my birthday and it was amazing, small with about 8 tables therefore it feels intimate and relaxing.

We visited Mediterraneo for dinner, and it was an excellent experience. The venue was really relaxing and intimate - it has only a few tables, so it feels almost like a living room. The menu seems quite simple, but the flavours are incredible - one of the best meals I’ve had in a while! I really recommend the amaretto cake - absolutely delicious. The waiters were really attentive and obviously passionate about the food. Excellent wine, too! We will definitely return next time we’re in Brighton!!

My husband and I have been to many restaurants in Brighton and always like to try and find somewhere new. We came across this restaurant and thought let’s give it a go and oh my how amazing the food was! We were taken back by its quaint decor it was absolutely amazing! Visited here last week for the first time, we’ve been going to different places in Brighton for years and only just discovered this lovely restaurant and I must say we probably won’t be going elsewhere for a while now. Stepping into Mediterrano, one feels like he/she has been transported away from bustling Preston Circus to the cosy home of a dear friend that is based in Sicily. With only about half a dozen or so tables in the restaurant, our host greeted us by first name and proceeded to explain that there was no rush and that the table was hours for the evening and to relax. The menu is very focused, but firmly rooted in Sicilian cuisine, yet there was enough variety there to suit most palates. Additionally, most (if not all) of the dishes are prepared to order, so they are willing to tweak dishes accommodate taste preferrences or dietary restrictions. The ingredients seem to be as fresh as can be and they endeavour to source key ingredients from Sicily as much as possible. Our host made it clear that he does not make recommendations, but is happy to describe the dishes in detail so that guests can decide whether or not a dish is for him or her. In essence, he stands by his dishes; who would offer a dish on a menu that they would not recommend?

Visited Saturday night as a table of six, the food & wine was outstanding & the table service was 5 Star A hidden gem in Brighton Would highly recommend, will definitely be returning, thank you Giorgio

A small, cosy restaurant with only six tables. I was glad to be able to book a table. Georgio the host was very friendly and a real food and wine lover. Was able to advise with much knowledge and enthusiasm. The food was almost perfect with just a couple of things that could have been better. Decorative pastry leaf was not cooked through and caremalised onions could have been cooked longer. But these minor points wouldn’t stop me highly recommending or returning tomorrow. Very reasonably priced too. A real pleasure.

We ate at Mediterraneo as a family last night and was transported back to Sicily. What an exquisite, charming and intimate restaurant. The owner, Georgio, is attentive and warm, offering detailed descriptions of recipes and extremely knowledgable about the all-Sicilian wine list (the Etna Bianco is a must). Arancini starters were a hit - served with a salad in a homemade, edible bread bowl. And the lasagne tradizionale - just delicious. I’m not usually a fan of lasagne in England as there’s usually an excessive amount of bechemal. But, the lasagne here is made in the proper traditional Sicilian way, rich and tomato-ey. Desserts - the cannoli, tiramisu and torte limoncello were all to die for. Booking is a must. One definitely not to miss!

Me and my partner were so intrigued by this place such an unusual setting that neither of us had experienced before it was so nice to go to an independent no chain restaurant. The food and service is here is outstanding run by a husband and wife who make brilliant hosts. Giorgio is very knowledgeable about the food and wine and provides each table the same standard of service he continues to top up the wine and water for the table throughout the night. The food was superb and presentation spot on we couldn’t find a single fault here because their isn’t one. Lovely intimate cosy restaurant I would recommend this to any one for a nice dinner, special occasion or just wanting to try something that bit better then your average restaurant. What a find! Giorgio and his wife run this amazing little place on their own and we were blown away. The food was so delicious, completely flavoursome and beautifully presented. Giorgio explains the ingredients and has detailed knowledge of the wines. Every detail is thought of and the setting is just lovely, full of art and beautiful decorations. We had a very special Birthday evening and will be back soon!

It's very easy to walk past this lovely restaurant and not even realise that it's there. A few metres away from the Duke of Yorks cinema, the unassuming frontage hides a beautifully cosy interior. It's very small and intimate, with only a few tables; the husband and wife proprietors do everything themselves, one in the kitchen and the other front of house. The service, as you'd expect, is very friendly. The food is beautiful, Sicilian-influenced, with a small menu - always a good sign. To complement the food, there is a range of very good, often unusual (again mainly Sicilian) wines. The small cosy interior and personal service, coupled with the high quality of both food and wine, make for a fantastic experience, not easy to find elsewhere in Brighton. It's great value, too.

Visited Mediterraneo for a birthday meal with my wife last weekend and had the best time. It's a small, intimate venue with about 5 tables and a really relaxed homely vibe. We had the Arancini and Stuffed Aubergine for starters followed by the Traditional Lasagne and Stuffed Peppers for our main. All the dishes were delicious and really well presented, with an honest, home cooked feel to it all. The service was excellent too, the owner was friendly and super informative about the food and wine but clearly knows how to balance this and leave guests to relax and have a good time. We were surprised at the end of the meal when my Tiramisu came out with a happy birthday message (he'd obviously overheard us chatting earlier), a nice little touch. Recommended.

What a lovely little place! I popped in one Saturday evening having finally been passing when it was open (only open on Friday and Saturday evenings, by reservation) and immediately booked a table for a fortnight later. I mentioned in passing that I'm generally vegan but that I was happy to have the vegetarian offerings.
