A really nice cafe in the heart of Ainsdale. To be fair I only tried the bacon sandwich but going on that alone the food and service seemed to be very good and reasonably priced. However the highlight was the coffee: the best flat white I've had since Sydney, Australia.

Just don't honest. Not enough staff. While we were there ( and was a LONG time waiting for our order) several people cancelled their own food and drink orders and left. It is probably not the fault of the two staff , it is the fault of the entitled management who do not bother to staff up properly. The result is that a good idea is trashed.

I live nearby here and visit quite often. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The place is a nice chilled out atmosphere and quite cool with the bike theme and integrated workshop - although I have not used the workshop. You can get soups and sandwiches etc here… but the homemade cakes are really tasty… and you can often find something a bit different here. The coffee is delicious too. Just over the road from Ainsdale train station, so hop off if you’re passing for a treat!

Pretty grim, dusty and no menus on tables so unsure they offer food Ordered a pot tea and a toasted bacon buttie Tea came and was luke warm and I watched the butty being made and was horrified Young guy with his unwashed hands all over the toast-then picked up the bacon put it on the toast then pressed down while he cut it half By this time felt sick and told them to give the money I paid to charity and walked out ,I was followed by a woman who made some comments but the point remains this place would never pass food hygiene

Booked my bike in for service and to have cage pedals fitted. I was told that the technician would call me in 4 days. No call! I called to speak to the technician to explain about the cage pedals, he said that he knew what I wanted. He didn't. He fitted unsuitable ones, so he said for me to try them but If they weren't right, to take the bike back. Not right. Several calls later and without my bike for an extra 2 weeks, I collected my bike Still not the right pedals and they expected an extra £10 for refitting of the pedals!! When I have ask questions to the staff, they are vague and unhelpful "I just work in the cafe, I don't know" The cafe seems OK but I certainly would never take my bike there again

We visited here as my sister had been before and it had always been ok . We went in on Wednesday 28th July and we were extremely disappointed. The tables hadn’t been wiped from the previous customer, tables were too close so no social distancing . My sister had scrambled egg on toast, no words can describe how awful it was . It was like rubber it was so bad. We wanted to complain but my sister didn’t want to a make a fuss. It wasn’t even that busy but the service was soo slow . We definitely won’t be returning.

I had a tricky and unusual problem with my thru axle - meaning that I couldn't ride my bike at all. At worst I knew I'd have to get a new fork and wheel. I spent several days going to three bike shops who weren't sure how to fix it. I brought it in and James M carefully thought it all through, and figured out what might work... It was like watching a little bike miracle happening in front of me. Thank you so much to James and Mecycle. Big thumbs up from me.

Went here after a walk with my sister and our kids. Went to the service counter and was met with a woman with short hair who abruptly told us to order quickly as she had sandwiches to make. We wanted to know if we could have beans on toast as one child is veggie and didn’t like the sound of chilli bean soup and is intolerant to cheese to be snapped at that beans on toast is on the breakfast menu so no. We ordered toast for her in the end feeling increasingly stressed by all the eye rolling and instructions to hurry up and order. When the toast cane we asked a really nice waitress for margerine it vegan spread. The same woman then stormed over to tell us they didn’t have any and we should have told them on ordering what we wanted. I know this place supports and employs people with autism which is fantastic but really was made to feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome I would not want to go here again

The first time I went in was a weekday morning. The café wasn't full - but the staff didn't seem seem to cope very well. I asked for the breakfast menu from the polite young man from behind the counter - but we were interrupted by an aggressive woman who I presumed was either manager or owner. "It's going to be 20 minutes at least, we are rushed off our feet" she said brusquely. I told her I didn't mind waiting, so I proceeded to order. She interrupted again "It's the lunch menu now, breakfast has finished!" she barked - it was 11am. I smiled as the young man sheepishly handed me the lunch menu. I started to order when the woman said "I'm can't take your order now I've got all these to do!" she said, waving a pile of papers in front of my face. I would have just gone straight out but i was waiting for colleagues for a meeting so i ordered a cup of tea, vowing never to order food there ever. I was in there again a couple weeks ago on a Saturday ... it was fairly busy but not exactly packed. Again having a meeting - we just ordered drinks no food. The same woman seemed highly stressed and kept telling our company to "Leave this area for cyclist to come through!" - no please or thank you, just ordering and hectoring. she did this more than once. Eventually my colleague said to her "You've told us four times now - where exactly should we sit?" - there was plenty of space for bikes to come through. Her attitude was disgusting. I think this business is confusing. It sells and services bicycles but also tries to function as a café...it fails miserably. I can't comment on the food as I wasn't served any. Avoid.

Okay I regularly visited this cafe and spent a sizeable amount on each visit, the drinks are over priced as are the snacks, but hey i have an autistic son so reassure myself it is a good cause. Most of the staff have been welcoming and fantastic and accommodating towards my son's autism. Every time we have visited the staff have encouraged my kids to pop next door to the chip shop and bring them in if they like which I thought was a nice touch and meant we stayed even longer and spent even more money. My 12 year old daughter finished school for summer and I suggested she visit me cycle with her freinds and support them they did and spent £18 on shakes they then took some chips in as usual only to be faced with a snarling manager who proceeded to humiliate and berate the young girls making them sit outside. No problem we won't be visiting again and as I am a customer service manager with 20 years experience will also tell others, i have to agree with another member of staff who reassured my daughter to take no notice as the manager is not a nice person. What a shame, never again !

It's so friendly, has amazing cakes, hearty sandwiches, plenty of choice for vegetarians, a range of herbal teas and coffees PLUS a well stocked bar with a diverse range of beers and ciders. It's ecologically friendly, and if that wasn't enough to sell the place, it's a charity giving disadvantaged young people work experience. What a crying shame that such a potentially great little café appears to have absolutely no awareness of hygiene. Been visiting here now and again since it opened and standards have definitely slipped. I wrote a review once before regarding the fact there is no extraction for cooking fumes and so you're left almost choking if bacon butties (which are good) are being prepared. However, on visiting yesterday for a coffee, I was absolutely disgusted to have to sit in an area where large remnants of food were strewn on the floor and also squashed to the ledge at the bottom of the table. The top of the table was also sticky as though it hadn't been cleaned properly in a long time. On looking around, I could see bits of food were all over the floor around tables and the place looked dirty in general. I had only intended to have a coffee thankfully as there is no way I would consider eating here. If that's what it's like in the seating area, what is it like where food is prepared? I also agree with another reviewer in that the staff looked disinterested and bored. Such a shame as this business does a wonderful job for the charity it represents and the concept of selling and mending bicycles is so good. Please clean up your act MeCycle!

We’ve given up on this place. God knows how it keeps a 5 star hygiene rating. Went in today for a coffee and a bite to eat to be told they’d stopped serving food 10 mins ago (1.30 pm) and wouldn’t even do toast. Tired looking cake and nothing in the way of even snack bars. The place was dirty. No tables were cleared and full of food and debris, floor was filthy, toys strewn about the floor, toilets were dirty and had nappy sacks lying on the floor. Corridor to toilet also dirty, with food debris. Some idiot was messing with a bike in the doorway meaning that the double automatic doors were wide open, so we had to move because of the draught. Supposedly this pace serves vegan food, but there was no indication of anything vegan or gluten free anywhere. On asking, there was nothing gluten free - not even a snack bar.

Very modern big city in style with bare brick walls, ducting and pipework on show, used wooden boards everywhere it is a classic of the converted warehouse look that is so in fashion currently in London, New York etc.The surprise is to find it on a street corner in little old Ainsdale. It's unique aspect is it is also a bike shop selling cycles and related equipment and also a bike repair shop and it all works in together really well. Most days open 8.00am to 8.00pm.The food is basic cafe fayre served between 8am and 3pm but very well done (the beans on toast and the sandwiches are fantastic) and it also has a drinks licence so sells wine and craft beers. I had to hang about for half an hour in Ainsdale and in the absence of anywhere else half decent I decided to drop in for a coffee. Not busy so service was quick friendly and efficient. Cappuccino this visit was ok with a reasonable attempt at latte art (but the milk needs to be improved as microfoam a bit bubbly). Coffee was ok...it seemed a better tasting blend than last visit. They could make a decent flat white with it if the got rid of the huge bowl type cups that are popular in the Uk and prepped it in the proper proportions. This is still the best place locally but with a few tweaks from some proper coffee snobs or a really decent antipodean barrista if could be great!

First time at this cafe and I was delighted at the friendly service and quality of coffee. Will most definitely be visiting again in the near future as the staff made me feel comfortable and the atmosphere was very welcoming!

My wife and I drove here specifically on Sunday morning ( today ) to check the place out and have a coffee ( I'd popped in earlier in the week to have a look and was looking forward coming back to show her how nice and quirky it was ) On walking in ,it was busy ( mostly cyclists as you'd expect ) but with a table & chairs and some couches free .So we walked up to the counter and as we went to order , the waitress pulled a face and said " sorry guys we are too busy - can you come back in about 5 minutes ??...WHAT !!!??? How embarrassing ...we had to turn around and walk out .What did she expect us to do - hang around outside like kids ? We just got back in the car and drive home ,gobsmacked .( good job we hadn't cycled miles to go there - I'd have been even more angry ) At the very least she should have asked us to sit down and said there may be a delay as it was busy etc etc .Or offered us a cold drink whilst we waited ( which would have took seconds ) Won't be going back - neither will we be recommending it to any friends .Terrible, terrible, customer service and bad first impression ....I noticed there's a previous review of a similar incident ( titled Faulty Towers .) sounds like the same member of staff - for gods sake give that person some training .( unless she's the owner - then you have got big problems if you are reading this) Karl & Marie

popped into here for a cuppa with my mum, reasonably priced and brilliant service. It was lovely to see complimentary water on the tables when we sat down. Coffee was lovely and mum was grateful for the mug she was given with her tea as she is unable to hold small handled cups well. The toasted teacake was delicious.

Really nice little place to visit, that has been around for a couple of years now! Really great vibe here, staff are the nicest people you will find anywhere...Loads of different drinks, hot or cold! I like the Piccolo Late & the Flat White here...they sell THE best toast ever. My favourite is the Porridge, served with a fruit compote, which they will warm up if you ask! But you can have it with anything like honey, raisins or nuts. Plenty of Teas & Cake for visiting cyclists that turn up continually whilst you are there...All the furniture has been put together to give a feel of Bohemia, almost a slice of Brighton & Hove in Ainsdale.Spotify playlist on in the background, depending on which staff are on shift, keeping the tunes fresh and different on each visit...The only downside is that it is so popular, you might have to wait for a table!

This place is great! Always come down when I visit Southport and stop off for morning coffee after a train ride from Southport to Ainsdale. Staff know me well, and have even been interviewed on a local hospital radio station.

We went here for a family lunch. Ordered the Deli cheese board and Deli meat board to share between three of us. It's was amazing, more than enough for us all to have a good feed, and the bread that accompanied the cheese and meats was to die for. The waitress that served us was really friendly and couldn't do enough for us, her customer service was perfect she seemed to have an American accent but I could be wrong. All in all I would totally recommend MeCycle for a casual chilled lunch.

I like good coffee...I really appreciate good barristas who know their trade. These things are rare as hens teeth in the Uk coffee scene and this place has not really improved it much. Hurrah I thought an independent coffee house in Ainsdale gotta try it. Well it is quirky which vwas nice enough and the food was pretty mainstream as was the service. The coffee itself was bland and weak and the microfoam was poor with no latte art. I did cause a problem though by asking for a flat white which to them is apparently a cappo with less froth...mmm. In the context of the local coffe shops which generally produce dire coffee it was ok ... but oh boy could it have been better

This is a quirky place to eat with an industrial style of interior with a varied selection of old tables and chairs surrounded by basic cycles and spare parts - I love it, but it may not be to everyones taste. This is mainly a coffee and cycle repair shop but it does have some basic snack type food available as well.We enjoy the fact that although the menu is very small with little choice (such as a Panini ) we often enjoy the long wait to get the food delivered and to see what will actually arrive !To us this is all part of the charm and we enjoy going

Usually call in here for coffee and a snack whether on or off the bike. The coffee is good and reasonably priced as are the snacks. The bacon toasties are great served on doorstop toast. The lunch menu is good too although I have not sampled it. The cafe also sells and services bikes and equipment at a reasonable cost. The only very minor critisism is that some of the chairs could be comfier, important after a long ride. Other than that I would highly reccomend it.

Had BLT sandwich my wife had beans on toast. Two large lattes, everything for just over £10 which I think is very reasonable. Excellent quality good service great atmosphere. Obviously aimed at cyclists but other people wishing to use facilities are made just as welcome. In addition profits go to a great charity Autism Initiatives.

Mecycle is a brilliant combination of cafe, bike shop and bike workshop. Its a big destination for the local cycling mob but its also for everyone who likes a good cafe. The coffee is fantastic cakes and food is nice and fresh and Bottled Beers and Wines are available. The simple pleasant decor and friendly staff are well worth a visit. You will have to wait a bit for your order to arrive when its busy but everything is done to order and well worth the wait. Very easy to get to Ainsdale Station is next door the Trans Pennine Way is about 3/4 mile down Shore Road the beach is about 1/4 mile further on past the Pontins village and there is parking. Ainsdale is a lovely little village to shop in so worth a trip.

Popped in on way through Ainsdale after hearing about this from friends. Just one staff member on when we visited (Monday am) who was very busy, but she did politely explain there would be a delay which was fine. Menu is small but there was enough choice and atmosphere was lovely. Food arrived hot and correct and drinks were good. Also pleased to see that they think further than their own pockets - they are actively engaged in supporting autistic people and encouraging local cycling. Will return with our children xx

This little coffee shop is quite unique, a mixture of a bicycle shop and café. Only had coffee there but it was good and the staff were friendly.I know many bike riders who love the place and meet there after rides and enjoy the atmosphere. Also very handy for the train station if you want a breather from cycling!!

We went to mecycle this morning as we are local and had heard good things but it. We were hoping to get breakfast but left without it.......Sure the cafe was busy but we were quite happy to wait, there was no menu on the table so my husband politely asked a passing waitress where we could find one. She was obviously stressed out at being so busy so she snapped that there was one on the bar and he would have to get it himself!!! He was planning to get one himself anyway!!! We just couldnt see one!! Rudeness part one complete. So we chose what we were having and i got up to order at the counter. A young waitress making drinks looked at me like I was some sort of inconveniece and told me i'd have to wait to place my order so to sit down and come back in 5 minutes!!!! No apology, no explanation, just dismissed like a small child! It was incredibly embarassing as the cafe was busy. It also has a weird atmosphere everyone stares when you walk in, the tables and chairs are wobbly and uncomfortable. We voted with our feet and left to spend our hard earned cash with an alternative local establishment who deserved our custom! Its the Fawlty Towers of Ainsdale, give it a miss

The industrial look has been carefully crafted as you sit on chairs of different types and sizes to tables of similar origin amongst some basic cycles and spare parts that adorn this charity cafe.I love this image and immediately feel relaxed ( if not always entirely comfortable) as I stare across to the counter to see what healthy warm (or cold) option may be available to accompany my chosen non-alcoholic drink. The service is always reassuringly slow and is always accompanied by an apology for the time taken to serve whatever it is you have chosen from the basic food choice.Although the food and the choice is best described as "basic" it is good wholesome food and always enjoyed. I also like the idea that the proceeds from anything that I buy here may be helping a worthwhile cause without feeling like I am being overcharged in any way.I love this place and visit is as often as I can. Enthusiastic cyclists will be disappointed with the basic cycles and accessories on offer but to me it is mainly just for decoration although they are for sale and some leisurely local rides are also arranged by the friendly staff who are always pleasant and pleased to serve you.
