Meadowfresh in Chesterfield

We shopped at the Dobbies branch at Barlborough last weekend. Bought Meat and Potatoe Pie which was OK and plenty of meat in the pie though quite dry. The bacon we bought was OK too though upon frying in zero oil there was plenty evidence the bacon had been soaked in brine as this was ejected from the meat as it was cooked. The lamb shanks however were awful, we bought three at £6 each and I can only analogise that it was like chewing rubber. The shanks were well roasted, so no excuses there, and I nearly choked when I swallowed a piece of meat (even though I chewed very carefully !) as the piece was still attached to another piece in my mouth with a small but very elastic piece of sinew. Will not be shopping there again.

I thought Dick Turpin died years ago but he is alive and well at the Meadowfresh butchers at Arrow Farm. I ordered my usual Xmas Turkey special, the same as I have had for several years, last years price was around £40. Now I accept with the current inflation, things would be more expensive and I was expecting about 50 quid or so. Imagine my astonishment when I collected the order today and was asked for a few pence short of £80. I quizzed Dick and was told there was noting he could do! Now with a family depending on this turkey and it being too short notice now to shop elsewhere I paid and left. My advise is this: Unless you are a millionaire with cash to burn, steer clear of these rob dogs, I certainly will never use them again.

I bought a steak and ale slice today. It’s like god himself has given these guys the recipe. The best piece of pie, I’ve ever had. Please never change the recipe. Ever.

I visited the Meadowfresh branch at Dobbies to purchase a joint of sirloin to feed 15 people. I asked the butcher that I needed a piece for Xmas day and to ensure it would be fresh. The butcher said no problem and explained he had the perfect piece. On Xmas day I took the piece of sirloin out and noticed this awful smell and it was very obvious the meat was now off and not suitable for Xmas day! This left me with no meat to cook! I won’t be visiting this place again and wouldn’t recommend it either! I spent £45.00 on this joint which had to go straight in the bin!

My 67 year old wife and I went there for the first time today. My wife fell down the steps inside the shop, the staff were very concerned and helpful, we were asked to fill in the accident book by the staff when the owner appeared, his attitude was uncalled for. Totally unconcerned about my wife but kept on about his shop has passed health and safety regulations .when my wife looked at the previous entries in the accident book which many involved the said stairs ,he said we had no right to look at the book.the staff were beyond reproch .

Called in at meadow fresh chesterfield , to buy a pork pie, I wish I'd never bothered , it's the worst pork pie iv ever had, all it tasted like was a mashed together load of luncheon meat, nothing like a proper pork pie!

My husband and I love this shop/cafe. If we lived local we would visit a lot more often. The meat and particularly the pies are spot on. Also reasonably priced. We had a meal there and the food is lovely. It's all freshly done and top quality. There's a lot of choice on the menu(something for everyone) and at a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend it.

Called in on my own for lunch. Nice and clean, but relatively small restaurant on two levels. Took a while to order and receive my meal, even though there went many in. I had steak pie, chips, garden peas and gravy. Food was served very hot. The pie had a delicious filling and the shortcrust pastry was great. Lovely chunky brown chips and sweet peas finished it off. We visited for lunch on Saturday and were impressed with the food and service in the cafe, I had scampi and the chips were amazing, I enjoyed my meal very much. Everything I saw looked fresh and appetising at a great price, real value for money. The cafe is modern and clean, a nice place to eat, and even though it was busy the staff were efficient and welcoming, would recommend a visit. We will be back soon!

My mum reserved us a table in the upper part of the cafe. When we arrived it had a festive cloth on, a little Christmas tree and crackers- what a nice touch. The food was lovely and staff pleasant.

I have not eaten here , but I have used the Shop on many occasions. Super artisan Butchers with a vast array of Food Products. Their Pies are legendary. Always on my Shopping List , when I am in Chesterfield.

No regard to food safety hygiene, watched 2 of their staff smoking outside then went straight back in and started serving! doesnt end their, Myself and my wife watched one person packing meat pick his nose then start packing meat again!!! Disgusting!

I visited for the first time with my wife and we ordered two Full Cooked English Breakfasts for only £12 in total. The service was excellent and we received two very large piping hot very nice breakfasts. I would recommend this place to anyone.

This café never ceases to amaze me. It's part of a farm to table butcher's shop which offers a vast array of quality meats, wet fish, pies, delicatessen etc. It's a real foodie's delight.Crammed in at the side of the take-away section and also in a small mezzazine, the cafe offers a range of food based on the produce for sale in the shop. If you ask for fish and chips, the fish comes straight from the wet fish counter. Steaks (often aged on the bone) are cut in the shop. Pies come straight from Meadowfresh's home-made range - they just cut a sizeable wedge for you. Hand-cut home-made chips are amazing. Nice and brown but not too crispy, they just ooze flavour you rarely find nowadays.The icing on the cake (and they also do really nice cakes!) is that prices are very reasonable.Over several visits,

My wife & I called in for afternoon lunch midweek, the food looked fantastic & the menu was tempting, we asked a lady behind the counter if it was table service & then if she had a menu as we had to order at the counter, she replied in a most rude & ignorant manner.

Two things you usually don't expect to get together. We both had shepherds pie. Really tasty pie, as was the chips, veg and gravy. Really large portions as well. Impressed, will return. Their breakfasts look massive.

Popped in this morning with the kids and had a full English breakfast, £6.95 and you get a plate full, everything cooked fresh to order so expect a slight wait, but it's worth it

Called in today for a full English and by gum that's what I got. Large portion to satisfy the hunger and keep you going all day. Will return. Best full English in Chesterfield.

We regularly visit for breakfast (and sometimes lunch) and we've never been disappointed. The food is great, reasonably priced - and just like mum makes! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The best breakfast in Chesterfield!

Had burger with blue cheese on which was very nice - salad also good but chip very disappointing. Called previously for cake and coffee which found to be good value

Metimos en café mientras un paseo por las tiendas. Desde fuera parece muy bonito. Los precios son muy buenos. Encontramos una mesa de arriba y se sentó con vistas a la zona de preparación y parte de la tienda. Las señoras que trabajan en la cafetería necesita repensar su manera de trabajar. Una en particular nunca lavados sus manos entre carga los platos sucios en el lavavajillas, teniendo limpias y preparar los alimentos. Otro elegido menús la planta mientras ellos ponen mesas en las mesas enseguida después volver detrás del mostrador para servir el próximo cliente. El tercero en el plato caliente procedió a usar una sonda de temperatura para comprobar la temperatura de la sopa, entonces limpiado con una toalla de té en su delantal escondido justo antes de dumping, sobre la superficie de trabajo. No volveremos

Debo calificar que nunca he comprado un preparado comida/almuerzo aquí, sin embargo, carne y pescado comprados con frecuencia desde la sección carnicería. Costo es muy bajo y es relativo a calidad comparable en casos con los supermercados más baratos. Esto no es para inferir que la calidad es de ninguna manera deficiente - las salchichas son divinos.

El lugar más fantástico para comer en Chesterfield para el almuerzo o la cena, la comida es fresco a la orden y un alto estándar de calidad fresca a la mesa en un gran precio. Las comidas de los niños son los mejores mis hijos he tenido casa fresca comida cocinada en un gran precio de £2.95 que incluye un slush, debes probar en mejor comida con un gran servicio de chesterfield personal encantador y amable!

Positives I visited this cafe on recommendation for breakfast. I had the 3 item roll for 2 quid as the breakfast looked way to big.... I have to say it was enormous. It was delicious. For 2 quid what a bargain. I won't be able to eat for rest of the day .. NegativesThe seating is very uncomfortable ...Also slight aroma of raw meat from the butcher's side when ordering. But once I was seated It vanished . ................ ...... .......All in all I would definately recommend this little cafe. The food is exceptional just shame about the seating ....

On a cold day in December I popped in here for a cup of tea and emerged half an hour later feeling very satisfied. I had bought some very nice ham from the butchers here but hadn't noticed that there was a café on the other side. I chose a steak and Stilton pie and mushy peas from the many pies on the menu, paid at the till and sat down. A few minutes later the waitress brought me a steaming hot plate complete with rich gravy. The pie lived up to its name, real steak. I got chatting to a couple on the next table who told me they always come here for their lunch when they are in Chesterfield town centre. I could easily see why, as for only a snip over £2 you get tasty, nourishing food and a cup of tea in basic but friendly surroundings with friendly service. Who needs junk food outlets when you can get proper food for less? Needless to say, I've been back since and it was every bit as good! Top recommendation, especially in cold weather!

In my view, the best pie and chips in town are to be had at the Rose and Crown at Barlborough.However, if you're looking for the best value pie and chips, with very quick and convenient service, then look no further. Really a very decent lunch to be had, for £4 each.Proper bargain lunch here.

the café is near my office so its nice to grab a quick lunch, clean venue and friendly staff. I usually have the hot roast pork with all the trimmings which is DEVINE, today I went for jacket potato with tuna mayo and salad., which was good but it was lacking something not sure what..Cant comment on the butchers side as not bought anything but looks fresh and clean.

The aroma smelt lovely as my friend and I walked by the café, so we decided to pop in and try it out, I went to order the drinks while my pal studied the menu, I ordered two Cappuccinos and waited patiently in the queue, another member of staff who was also serving a customer with drinks proceeded to have a sneezing attack, she apologised profusely, and carried on making drinks without washing her hands blaming the sneezing attack on high pollen, my Cappuccinos where only two thirds full, but I didn't want to hang about in the sneeze zone so quickly made my escape with half filled drinks, (First disappointment) While relaying the story of the sneezing attack to my pal and breathing in the aroma of cooked steak, we couldn't help but notice the person cooking the steak (I think it was steak) was using her hands to turn the meat, with no gloves, she then poked the steak several times with her fingers, then went straight into the salad and started plating up, at this point we decided not to risk eating here and very quickly left, a word of advice to the staff.... Wash you hands......

We visited here whilst shopping in Chesterfield. It's a good restaurant, but the butchers side seems much better and the butchers staff are definitely friendlier, more skilled and harder working. We had beer battered fish and chips, two cold sausage rolls (we requested for them to be cold), a cheese and onion pannini, and a steak pie with gravy. The chips were good but I've eaten better fish (but it wasn't awful). The sausage rolls were tasty and we got them very quickly, but ended giving my Dad awful indigestion! The pannini was good and so was the steak pie. But despite the extensive menu, they didn't stock everything we asked for, which resulted in a change of order. What also annoyed me was that we received the sausage rolls about 10 mins before the other three meals. However, it's reasonably priced and we would eat here again if we had no alternative option.

Called in last week to try this butchers out. I brought gammon and sausages and the family loved them, better than crawshaws. Now meadow fresh have my custom.

Called in at lunchtime today. Very busy but staff very calm and efficient. Excellent value and all was deliciously fresh. Best tasting meat we have ever had and wonderfully cooked.Highly recommended.

I originally planned to stop at this restaurant for breakfast and ended up ordering a steak. The food was good value two good sized meals and drinks for about £12.

Fancied a full English so gave it try and it was very good the bacon and sausage was quality and so was everything else the service was prompt and loved the look of the menu i will be returning to try the pulled pork torpedo

We use the shop most weeks, all the meat purchased has been of an excellent quality. The beef and lamb bought for Christmas was really tender and good value for money. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Local company serving local people.Larger shop great addition to chesterfield.

Watched one of the male employees outside smoking, dispose of his cigarette in the bin next to the phone box then go back inside the shop. He walked straight back behind the counter & began serving..... yuk. How about washing your hands at least. But in my opinion you shouldnt be smoking & then serving food at all. Not a shop I will be using.

Have visited several times since the revamp, great deli counter, have bought several pies from here and the sausages are amazing. Staff are usually always helpful with good knowledge of the different meats, until my latest trip in Saturday where the server was miserable! Despite this will be back!

Really good ingredients went there for produce and had brunch, really good.excellent shop attached with good quality items and knowledgable staff.

Went here for lunch, staff were fabulous and the food was delicious. Was highly impressed with the service and prices, it's very reasonable. Will definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

It's the first time since I have been in since they have moved and wow have they made a fab place to go!!Really lovely fresh food to buy and all top quality!! Very friendly and helpful staff and such a lot of choice!!Would really recommend here!!

I used to come here regularly before it got revamped. The staff then were very friendly and helpful. The steak/steak and potato slices, etc are great, and enough for 2 people (or half goes in the freezer!), so makes them good value. They used to have fantastic sausage rolls, but one day they changed the recipe, and now they aren't the same at all.However, apart from for the slices, I find it expensive. I bought a chicken portions once, probably the equivalent of a whole chicken. It cost over £8, which is ridiculous. Not bought raw meat there since.Other reviews mentioned sandwiches. I don't often eat ready made sandwiches, but they sound like they are the most expensive in there. Much cheaper at Jacksons on low pavement.

The shop switched sites recently into a bigger new shop that is well presented. They now do fresh meat, an excellent deli counter, home meade pies etc, fresh fish - with a very knowledgable assistant working on it and, in the other half of the shop they now have a small cafe, which I haven't yet tried.Everything I've treid has been good. The assistants are very helpful and the shop is a delight to visit.

These are new much bigger premises. I have only been once for a sandwich and it was average, can't say more.

great to see Meadowfresh have expanded & moved just across the road from where they were, into the old Hudsons building. they have made a lovely job of the shop and it is now a café too serving meals such as cold & warm sandwiches/ cottage pie etc with upstairs & outside seating.The staff in the previous building were so friendly & welcoming (all men) that I have been going in the shop for years , also because their steak/steak & onion/ steak & mushroom steak & potato / Steak& stilton slices are 'simply the best'- packed full of meat and really tasty. The new café however provided me with a very different kind of experience yesterday. I ordered 3 x hot meat sandwiches which sounded easy? - well I had to repeat my order about 4 times before it was understood& the price of the sandwiches was unbelievable- £3.85 each!!! OK after I had got over the price of these I convinced myself that they would be lovely & up to the usual standard of other products from Meadowfresh. Well, on the pork sandwich it was covered in bright yellow sauce down one side - it had obviously been cut with the same knife that had been used for either piccalilly or mustard!!! it was on my daughters pork sandwich & of course she wouldn't eat it! I went back in the shop and another lady served me & apologised and made me another sandwich. The crackling that came with the sandwich you could have leathered your shoes with it & used it to hammer nails in as it would not break - in fact my husband nearly broke his tooth on it!! this was not a pleasant experience all in all & really do think the ridiculous prices of the sandwiches needs addressing(especially when a large hot sandwich at Bowrings butchers just up the side street is only £2.40 and much nicer!!!) ok there's nowhere to sit down at Bowrings & I understand that a new place like this doesn't pay for itself, but it's a much more pleasant experience and much cheaper too!!! I will be sticking to the butchery side in future & not bothering at all with the 'other side' as the staff are much friendlier & the quality is much better!! - just please don't put the prices up of the steak slices!!!! regards

If at any time you are shopping in the town centre of Chesterfield and are ready for a snack you could do no better than drop into this new establishment which only opened last Thursday 17th July 2014.What a lovely clean place to sit and have a sandwich or mixed salad prepared as you like it. Weather permitting seating is also available outside.Not only do they have the sandwich bar but also sell a comprehensive selection of fresh produce including meats, pies, peppers, olives. I cannot say enough of the friendly customer service and the very clean environment that my wife and I witnessed . We came across this new established café by accident but on our next visit to Chesterfield this will be our first port of call. What a wonderful change to get good customer service with a smile plus excellent value.
