Out of everything: half of the main dishes were not available, one of the two fries options not available (after the waiteress asked me which one I wanted and then brought me what was left of the other type). The soup was ok, but the bread served with it seemed almost raw.Confusion and agitation in the staff, despite there was not a big crowd due to covid-19 regulations

Myself and 7 of my friends went to this venue yesterday for dinner. The food was decent and most of the staff were very nice. Between the 8 of us we spend over £300 on food and drink. At half 9 we were asked to move downstairs to the live music which was no problem. Apart from us there was about 10 people in there on a Saturday night. We have it on video us sitting in our seats singing with the musician. The "Manager" came over and told us to shut up singing because of covid. We thought she was joking at first, still ordering rounds of drink and shots she came back around and said she will get the bouncer to kick us out if we don't be quiet. We then asked can we speak to the manager as she was the only member of staff to have a problem with us. She then shouted "I am the manager!!!". So we told her she had no manners and left. The musician seemed annoyed as we were the only ones giving him feedback. We would have happily sat and drank there all night if it wasn't for that "Manager".

A good selection of beers and drinks. Nice staff . I added the *large* selection of breads and dips for a treat, as they didn't have crisps (I think they could add in some local crisps to the offering no bother)...... Anyway, to be absolutely fair the bread plate is extortionate (£7.50) for what you get. I'll be back for the pub , but the breads are a ripoff. It was six slices of bread - 3 wheaten and 3 a sort of soft soda, perhaps?! (+ tapenade). Heaven knows what the small of this plate is like at a Fiver!

Whilst visiting Belfast and waiting to check into accommodation we opted to have a few drinks and lunch at McHughs.Reading the menu we asked about a particular dish which the waitress described, the taste buds were tickled and we ordered. The Belfast Boxty has now got us hooked, it's hearty, wholesome and absolutely delicious. We opted for the sliced steak topping. McHughs is definitely worth a visit.

4 of us booked for a meal - for a birthday - we thought, sit afterwards for a few drinks. It was a Tuesday and should have been quiet.Boy did we pick the wrong day.!The table was booked for 5pm. As we arrived we noticed outside was really busy. Then we remembered, just across the road is one of Belfast’s busiest venues for outside concerts - and the first one since lockdown cleared was about to kick off. Now, we know it was busy, but we had to chase staff for everything.By 6pm we had one drink served. We went chasing menus. Our food wasn’t served until 6.45pm.Then we had to go try to get another drink. The rules were “table service” as it had to be, but no one checked on us once. So one of us went and spoke to someone, and it was 20 minutes before we got our next drink. This continued until 8.30pm when we managed to grab a table out in the fresh air. It then took 30 minutes to get an order in for another drink. We shouldn’t complain as we were treated to a ‘free’ audio concert from Tom Jones - but all the noise of others around us made our nice wee, quiet meal impossible. So, the food was perfect. The staff when we got them were lovely, we think they realised how distracting everyone else was to us.The prices were what we expected too, so no real shocks to report here.

Great little find that serves the famous Belfast Black stout! My husband and I were recommend to visit here as they served Belfast Black. They managed to seat us outside and then kindly moved us inside when they had room. We decided to stay and have food... we were not disappointed. Amazing food., felt like it was good home cooked fayre. We had the spicy lentil soup, chicken strips to start, followed by traditional boxty (topped with rump steak and crispy onions) and i had the pie of the day which was a chicken and leek topped with a cheesy mash. The food was amazing as was the service from Steve, Fionnula and the rest of the amazing team. So friendly and attentive.

My husband and I being frequent visitors to Belfast, and having had drinks in McHughs plenty times we thought we'd have dinner here for a change. We were seated at a table, however, just before our starters arrived we were asked to move as someone else had booked that table. We moved no issue, although I preferred our original table haha!Food -I had the chicken wings to start which were really nice, the chef gave me garlic dip rather than blue cheese ( I can't eat blue cheese) and my husband had the chicken goujons which were okay, nothing to write home about. My husband had sausage and mash for main which he was disappointed with, the sausages were overcooked, the mash was like micro mash and the gravy was like Bisto (think school dinner sausage and mash)I ordered the steak which was supposed to be a hot rock steak (no hot rock) I asked for my steak rare, however when it arrived I could tell by the colour that it wasn't going to be rare, sure enough I cut it through the middle and it was well done :( I did highlight this and it was resolved with a new steak being brought out, although it meant my husband was finished his dinner near enough before I got mine so he had to wait on me finishing! Glad I ordered onion rings as I was able to eat these whilst waiting on a replacement steak, although they weren't that great!I can't fault the staff for resolving the steak issue, and they did remove a round of drinks from the bill and were apologetic, however, having had high expectations from the other reviews, and having seen food on previous visits we were left disappointed. It could be due to the reopening, and mistakes do happen but really cooking a steak well done when asked for rare? that's a fairly big one. We will possibly be back in future.

Had lunch on Friday which was the first day back following the covid restrictions. The bar/restaurant were spotlessly clean, staff wore PPE and customers were seated safely apart. We had the seafood chowder and fish and both were cooked perfectly. It was also great to enjoy a great pint and glass of wine during these challenging times! The staff were very attentive and seemed genuinely pleased to be open again and welcoming customers again.McHughs has long been a bit of an institution in Belfast and it was great to see it reopened, completely safe and at the top of it's game.If you are a visitor to the city it is well worth a visit.

Ate dinner in the oldest building in Belfast. I had the hot rock steak. Was very good. My wife had the fish and chips. Very good. Our server was excellent. Attentive and helpful. The bar scene was also hopping.

Arrived at 7, didn’t look busy, told there would be a 20 minute wait, 35 minutes later went up to the restaurant, had to find somebody to order, extremely Hungry by now, Bacon and black pudding salad that was all salad and next to nip meat, something called pineapple soup on the other salad that was non existent, main course turned up 50 minutes after we ordered so an hour and 40 minutes after we arrived, food was bland and over cooked. definitely not worth the wait, the bill was reduced but still not worth the price, avoid, avoid avoid

Charming building, terrible service. Waiter never returned, went to the bar, and told we couldn’t order from a different waiter from the one that was at the table. We apparently offended our table waiter, because he never came back to our table, not even to give us the check. If they’re going to have these rules, they should post them. We had no idea. We could’ve walked out without paying, but we requested the check, and payed to a different waiter. No tip!

We went here on a Friday night two weeks ago.McHughs had been recommended to us by a local. It was early evening and whilst it was busy downstairs with the usual after work crowd the upstairs was empty.Having got our drinks at the bar we went upstairs and found a table. We ordered the veggie burger and vegetarian 'meatballs'(actually mushrooms) as a main course.

We had few beer times in the down stair bar. This time had good dinner in the up stair restaurant. The Steamed Dundrum Mussels was delicious and I used the bread to clean up the dish, because the sauce was lovely. The Irish Fish Plate was good too, there're few different seafood on this meal and it's great. Next time we would like to try the Famous Hot Rock Steaks, because we saw the next table who're having and had an attractive smell.

Went in today with my friend after reading some good reviews online about the place. We hadn’t ate since 10 and it was 4:30 when we went in so we were very hungry. Went in and looked around for an empty table but only seen about 3 and all had empty/half full glasses of beer. We went upstairs to the restaurant and were ignored. Went back downstairs and found a table, sat down and were never approached even though we looked around a tried to get the attention of staff. Went back up the stairs to see when the restraunt was opening and we were told 5, so we sat and waited. Went up at 5 to only be told it wasn’t bar food but a completly different menu. Complained we sat downstairs for 40 minutes without being approached as being ignored, didn’t get any reaction, the waitress just walked away. We left and went to “made in Belfast” where staff were amazing and the food was fantastic! Will never be back to McHughs!!

We were having dinner at the McHughs and were quite disappointed. The building itself including its history is quite interesting but the service was below bad. The waiting time for a waiter was quite long, only to be topped by the waiting time for the drinks, which came after the meal and only after pleading for it. It was also necessary to beg for cutlery such as spoons and no salt or whatsoever was provided. Really felt unwelcomed here.

Oldest building in Belfast, which is a great claim to fame. Half-timbered building and multi levels are awesome. Staff were helpful.

I came to Belfast by way of Dublin, and they are alll about the Guinness in Dublin. However in Belfast there is a brew a bit more similar to a Stout called Belfast Black. This little bar, famous for being "of ill repute" in the old days of Belfast, is cozy, has beautiful murals depicting some of the history of Belfast, and is located in the middle of a handful of local landmarks and some of the best sites in Belfast, (Belfast shipyard, Blue Fish, and the leaning clock tower.)

We had a week long company meeting with 21 staff from around the world. We al were visiting Belfast, Ireland for the first time. All the places visited and recommended by the hotel were excellent. Unfortunately, our luck ended at this place. We had a fixed menu and the man entrée was served cold. All 21 Entrees. It was ridiculous . Our tour guide made a complaint and no one from management came to apologize. Kitchen was closed so the situation could only be fixed by asking for hot gravy. The staff seemed to be a little irritated but perhaps they had a long day. I would not recommend this location to anyone in the future.

This used to feature very highly on my list but not after today. Stood for half an hour at the bar with my wife while the 3 barmen and 1 bar lady served everyone around us! Twice!! When we finally got the attention of a barman to say he was rude was an understatement!

Visited with 5 others. Food was very variable. The duck duo was disastrous, first duck spring roll was soggy and undercooked, second one was stone cold in the middle. To be fair this was refunded. The lamb was lovely, herb crusted cutlets served with champ and a jus. The Irish breads made a good starter. The burger was unremarkable. Lively pub and lovely building.

We eat lunch here, yesterday, we opted to try the potatoes cakes, I could race on for ages about the peppered steak and onion potatoe cake, wow , Fantastic. Staff were friendly and atmosphere in the pub was super. Shame we did not visit this pub on the first day, instead of our last or we would have eaten all our meals here. This pub is Situated just under the clock, and near the salmon.

Ate here last evening(6/4/2019) table booked for 6pm as going show at waterfront 7.30pm.. Seated on time& waitress took drink order, all good. Afraid after went pear shaped. Friend ordered starter which should not have been a problem but wasn't served till half six. Main meals not served till just before 7. Given one ordered was hot stone steak which had to be cooked still at table so not as if time delay on making a good steak. As can guest food was eaten super quick. Service good sadly kitchen seems to have been let down. Would go back maybe...but might just stick to auld favourite Robinsons when at Opera House and do walk to Waterfront.
