Waffles with chicken and maple syrup very tasty. Great service, friendly staff. Been before and would highly recommend.

Relaxed and casual, I didnt eat but the Mexican menu sounded fab. Nice place, nice people.

Thought this would be a great place to come with our teens, how wrong can you be! We were enticed by the gluten free menu but honestly it’s some of the worst food we’ve ever eaten! We ordered Birria tacos with beef, pork and lamb, there was no difference in flavours and the ‘consomme’ was tasteless sludge! I ate less than half! I don’t leave bad reviews lightly but for £100, I wouldn’t have paid a tenth of that had I known. Dreadful! I have to mention our server was very sweet!

The food was excellent. We had the fish, pork and chicken tacos, loaded fries, chicken wings and prawns. Everything was lovely and fresh and very tasty. The wasabi margarita was amazing and the smoked margarita was one of the best I've tasted. Service was excellent and always a great atmosphere.

Used to go here years ago when it was called the Rock Garden. Still like it, its not changed much. Cocktails were quite expensive though. Good music

Very much our ‘local’ (literally across the road from our workplace). Popped in here a few weeks ago to welcome our workmate back from an overseas stint. Decent pints as always - cracking selection of draught Ales / Lagers! Managed to bag a booth with comfy seats (swift timing) and the atmosphere was lively, but not packed out. Since the last time I was in I can see they’ve installed a new TV as well, which is a massive improvement on the last one. A regular stomping ground and popularly chosen ‘starter Pub’ amongst colleagues, I don’t imagine it’ll be too long until we’re back there!

Has become a mexican place 🌮 which is fine if that's what you were expecting but I wasn't. Had expected it to be how it was last time I was in, which was tbf a few years ago now. Food was ok, tasty enough and filled a hole but was overpriced for what you got. The Banksy drink wasn't too nice. I'm not a fan of Irn Bru but it didn't really taste of Irn Bru or of any alcohol. Was a glass of orange liquid with a traffic cone. Service quite slow as well, plus we felt forced into getting food or leaving, as we were sitting at a table having a drink that is now in an area reserved for food only. No drinks only area apart from standing at the bar. Bar service also not great. Waited and watched staff making cocktails when all I wanted was a Guinness. Paid by card only to be asked to select whether I wanted to give a tip. Based on the service and not having then, yet tasted the Guinness I thought it a bit soon to be asking for a tip. I'll not be in a hurry to go back. Shame really, it was always a pretty good bar. Shame it's been taken over by this Mexicana effect popping up everywhere.

Good atmosphere,but hada cooking show then dragon ball Z on the TV for some reason.

I was horrified by the attitude of the bouncer this evening. My husband and I were about to enter the venue and the bouncer on the left as we approached decided that my Malaysian husband who lives in Portugal and wasn't drunk, was trouble, stating that he had previous issues there. I'm calling a racist assault and will be taking further. Get your CCTV ready. I've NEVER been so embarrassed to be Scottish in my life! Shame on you!

Didn't try the food but in the evenings this place is jumping. Awesome atmosphere, feels a bit like a European bar.

Music was great,staff need trained in making cocktails,how to spot a customer,how to count,and once spotting a customer maybe looking like they want to serve you 🙄

The value proposition of eating at Max’s is completely out of line. The pricing structure makes little sense and doesn’t really allow you to share different items. £6 for one tiny taco of middling quality, £7 for a small tostada and minuscule sides. It’s not worth the money. The atmosphere of the bar is nice and the drinks aren’t bad - i’d recommend just having drinks here. Update: I got horrendously ill from this food. Downgraded from two stars to one star.

There was 9 of of us crowded round a tiny table and all the food was cold. One of the group ordered a vegan meal and got chicken served. 1 person didn't get any food until 1.5 hours after ordering. The waiter didn't take any responsibility and tried to blamed us for any issues. Unacceptable behaviour and will never return!

2 pints and a double spirit for £26.80 feels like daylight robbery.

Dropped in earlier in the month and was greeted by Thomas Toner. His customer service was amazing and his bespoke cocktail was out of this world!!

Popped in for late night drinks. Phenomenal service, cocktails that were to die for and quite honestly just a fantastic vibe all around. Definitely coming back next time we’re around the area.

Nice atmosphere and a decent pint of Guinness

Nice place for drinks but I wouldn’t order food again. The fries and the burger where not that good.

I had a terrible experience in maxs bar. The staff were very inexperienced and didn’t pour one of my two drinks( 2 rums with a can on coke).Immediately I reported this to the staff member who poured my drink, who accused me of drinking the drink myself. The manager then insisted on checking the CCTV (accusing me of drinking the drink myself) which was not only embarrassing but left me alone at the bar for 20mins. After returning, the manger didn’t say anything to me, only smelled my empty glass and said there is no rum in here. The manager and staff member were very rude and not apologetic at all after this. Overall I am VERY disappointed !

Banksy special cocktail we received due to standing at 2.45 am to see exhibition. Even though phoning first said they still had the mini cocktail drink cones. £15 taxi here £15 to go back home and didn't get the momentum of our banksy cocktail. Dull serious bar maid said there was none and wouldn't ask male staff.

Good drink selection and chilled place

For me this place was a solid 5. Now a shaky 3 stars overall for the following.... OK, I haven't eaten the food since the Mcfly's takeover (their words not mine) (it may be the best fried chicken in the city / country / world) but to take a wide, eclectic menu (maybe being a bit over enthusiastic but it had more than a variation on one food) and turn it into a fried chicken joint has to be questionable. Vegetarian and don't just want fries? Walk on by. For me this place was a solid 5. Now a shaky 3 (probably 2) stars overall for the following.... A "please wait to be seated" sign in the old Rock Garden almost made me break my 30 year vow of silence with a rant about my juniper bushes but the barman assured me walkins could just... Walk in. Nonetheless, converting a toolshop to a place that only sells spanners (albeit the best spanners in the city / country / world) is still, in my book, a terribly backward step. Sadly / happily (take your pick) the bar was quiet on a six pm sunny evening and nobody (sorry looked round - one guy who may be staff by his conversation with his waitress) was eating. There is still time to change tack before it drags the bar down. McFly may pay a rent but my days of paying for beer while eating is gone for a while and walk in with family and friends is just not possible. A pity

I previously rated Max's 5 stars. Popped in for food earlier. Staff still nice and plenty of drink options. No vegetarian or vegan food. Zero. Not even a token dish.

Very nice pub near the GOMA, Museum of Modern Art. Great selection of beers, staff very friendly and helpful.

My family and I have visited this place for years. Staff are and have always been incredibly amazing, kind, easy-going and extremely welcoming. Our last visit to Max's Bar & Grill, staff service once did not disappoint us. However, the only thing I can't understand is why the change in the menu leads to an obnoxious and limited variety of choice? Literally, the no one can't have a different meal other than.. fried chicken? Fired chicken wings, fried chicken burgers.. and that's it? I mean, nothing against chicken, and I am a great fan of burgers... but like, whoever is responsible for the menu, do they have anything against beef, pork and fish? Seems like there was a change in the management. I accept the change in the concept of the restaurant (or bar in this case), and the increase in prices, that is fine! But limiting the choices to solely fried chicken, what the hell? L0L By the way, I miss the pizzas they used to serve here. I understand that they were extremely non-profitable (charging around £7 for 2 pizzas), but at that point, I am sure that me and many other customers would be okay with a price increase, even if it was significant, as the pizzas were really, really good! Again, I can't be grateful enough to staff, they are always so kind! Not coming back (for meals at least) though, until the menu is changed to something with a wider variety of choices.

Poor and limited choice of food...staff were first class though.

one of my favourite bars in Glasgow. does not look anything special, but has great beers, food and staff. you can now order via a tablet too on your table! New chicken pop up amazing, tasty and filling. always busy, but worth the wait.

I came in today and asked if there was any chance they had toast and eggs as my wee brother who has autism will only eat poached eggs on toast. They helped out without hesitation and ran to the shops to get toast and eggs. FOH were unbelievably friendly asking how he would like his toast cut as well as how he would like his eggs. The kitchen team cooked the poached eggs perfect and everyone here made the our experience perfect and we will definitely be back. Big thank you to everyone involved for making this visit perfect.

Like everyone else in town last night I was not prepared for the rain I was enjoying drinks & relaxing after a hectic week, my whole week/month/year was brightened up by a staff member named Thomas who found me an umbrella, I write this review to say great bar great atmosphere top staff…Thomas thank you.

Went in in the afternoon for some drinks. No Tennents or Pinot Grigio available. Pint of Amstel thoroughly enjoyed but cheapest Sauvignon Blanc (from Chile)... Prices reasonable, No food available as New menu coming! New staff on the bar but polite and personable.

I've never had food unless you count the limes in the long island iced teas ...these I can vouch for 10/10 especially made by one certain member of staff , she's got skills , even the door staff are spot on not your usual nonsense where they make you wait outside to make the place look 'happening'

I went there because I know they are doing a promo to change the locals. But, surprisingly, the food was amazing. I had a chicken burger. Nice and crispy. Spicy as I like it. The fries were soooo good.

Been regularly coming to max's for pizza for a long time. Unfortunately the pizza oven has been out of action last few trips, and the food has been just average so haven't been back since mid February. Really hope it's fixed soon

I was here with a small group of friends for some food and drinks. I've been for drinks before and it's always a great night. On this occasion I had pre-looked at the menu and I knew what I was having. On arrival we were told the pizza oven had been broken a while so pizzas were off the menu. Which is what I was going to have. I had a chicken burger with Cajun fries and no salad. I ordered a rum n diet coke with a lime wedge. My drink arrived with a lemon slice and my burger arrived with a full salad, the chicken burger wasn't a burger it was two chicken tenders/pieces stuck in a bun, what an absolute joke of a chicken burger. Cajun fries were in nice but not a lot of them. Such a shame as the bar is top notch, it wasn't even super busy like 730pm on a Friday night, staff need to up their game on food service. I'll be back for drinks but definitely won't be back for food, wouldn't recommend it, loads of places closer by that do good drinks and much better food/service.

For what was meant to be two sociable pints after work, it quickly became six. However, I have absolutely no regrets, as the three hours spent in here were great! I chose and stuck to draught Kronenbourg - a lovely pint that I began to get a taste for. Managing to find a table to seat all six of us, the time flew by. The premises itself was clean, lively and the staff were polite, smiling all the time. Located in the heart of Queen Street, I can imagine this pub thriving on a Friday or Saturday night. I’d definitely venture back, potentially to tie in with the upcoming Glasgow Comedy Festival.

I've been a few times now but just noticed they do tequila verditas, so I'll likely be going more frequently now 😍

We were in Glasgow and visited this place twice during our stay for food and drinks. We found it to be excellent with reasonably priced drinks, friendly helpful staff and tasty freshly cooked food. Would recommend.

Any time I come to Glasgow I always try and come to Max's, service and food is always top notch. Visited today without a booking and they managed to squeeze me in for a brief visit which was hugely appreciated.

I have been coming here since 2015 and have never had many significant problems with staff or punters, but over the years the quality of the venue has rapidly decreased. The upstairs bar needs major space alterations in order to move around. The bar is very cramped and is the first reason I rarely visit any more. On a more serious note, I recommend more better vetting of security staff. Other than Alan who is a great dude, management's choice of security is shocking, if not worrying. On this particular instance (which prompted me to write a review) I had just arrived, and hadn't even ordered a drink, before a white spectacled security guard approached me and asked me to step outside. I was in dispute of what it was that I had done wrong until eventually he made the decision to manhandle me, throttling my neck so as to cut off my windpipe so I couldn't breath while I shouted for Alan. My friend was beside me and as far as I can remember beckoned Alan over who thankfully intervened and ordered the man to get off me. It was not a great start nor ending to my evening. This is just one of a number of clashes I've had with security who can be very toxic, misogynistic and all round bullies. I think the problems start when senior management are out of sight so security can get off on their power trip. I hate to say this but there have been cases where bar staff have also been complicit in bullying. I rarely, if ever visit Max's Bar or La Cheetah these days due to the traumatic experiences I've had in the past. The venue needs serious reforms and I have been saying that for years, Thanks

Me and a friend got the 2 for 1 Pizzas.... very impressed! Fresh and tasted lovely. The selection of beers was impressive too. Staff were friendly and helpful, would visit again!

Great food, friendly staff. As a table of six we were very cramped. The very loud royalty free music causing everyone in the bar to shout over each other causes a bit of an uncomfortable environment though.
