Maximo Italian Bistrot in Lambeth

Yesterday was the first time we went to this place. But It is no doubt not the last time. We enjoyed the evening very much with the courteous service, with the high quality meal and fine drinks and with the friendly cost. We will surely go back there soon.

Don't judge a book by it's cover, this place may not look like much from passing, but we were pleasantly surprised with the place once entered. The atmosphere was a bit lacking, although this is hardly surprising as we visited mid pandemic, the decor made up for this, with a very homely ambiance. The food was overall appetizing, the starters could have had a bit more oomph to them but were enjoyable none the less. The mains, however, did not suffer the same fate, we had no complaints and left us feeling sated. Cheap and cheerful, would recommend for fun little meal out.

3 of us came here for dinner and we were NOT disappointed! The food was so fresh and so tasty! I am a vegetarian and the choice was so good, I did not for a second feel like I did not have "enough to choose from". The portions were generous and well presented, the wine was not overpriced and the selection was good enough to suit every palate! Massimo and the chef were lovely, friendly and very helpful. The venue is also so cozy and intimate, with soft lighting and lovely italian old school music. Couldn't be happier with the experience! Will definitely recommend and will go back soon for sure!

We ate beautiful pasta here a few weeks ago, and tonight in lockdown we had delicious takeaway pizzas and gnocchi – makes me long to be in Italy. Lovely fresh Italian food!

Best Italian food I've eaten in the UK! Perfect place for eating in, and takeaway is excellent as well. The owners are lovely and the service is always amazing. They also have a wide ranging selection of Italian wines which cannot be beaten!

Happened upon this lovely bistro in Kennington, felt very safe with the regulations. I tried the Malloreddus Alla Campidanese, absolutely delicious and a very generous portion. I look forward to visiting again and staying for dessert next time! .............

Absolutely DELICIOUS food. Pizzas are amazing. Would highly recommend! Takeaway delivery service is fast and food arrived in fantastic condition and HOT. Just a note to Management - there were too many plastic forks in my takeaway delivery. Would you consider using biodegradable cutlery or wooden ones? Also, some of the side dishes came in plastic tubs. Love the food, would’ve just preferred more eco friendly packaging. :)

I went with my husband last Friday and we were amazed! The food was amazing: fresh pasta, delicious pizza and “birramisu”. Good wine and beer as well. The atmosphere was nice and the treat was awesome. Will came back soon!

We booked a surprise lunch for a friend's birthday back in October 2019 and had a great time. The staff were very accommodating and the food was delicious - I had one of the nicest pizzas I've had in a long time. Definitely recommended.

Came here because it was nearby while visiting our daughter. Tremendous charcuterie and cheese mixed starter to share. Very good pasta mains - vegetarian lasagne with mushrooms and chestnuts to give bite was excellent. Good homemade desserts - Tiramisu delicious. Overall great food and good value - for West London!!

This Italian restaurant is located across the road from the Kennington subway. I had the Maximo's lasagna and a Caprese side salad and my son had the Trentina pizza. The meal with the service charge came to £33.08. The meal was very good and so was the service. Note that a service charge of 12.5% is added to the bill.

Nice small restaurant, typical and delicious Italian food with some speciality from Sardinia. Everything is delicious from the starters to the desserts. Chiara has been amazing and made us feel like home!

The restaurant is small but very accommodating. We had a group of 6 and took up almost 1/4 of the restaurants. They had a lot of take away orders while we were there. The food was fantastic. It was a little taste of Italy while in England.

We stopped off for a meal at Maximo Italian Bistro by chance. It was wonderful...beautiful food wonderfully served. Go there and enjoy it yourselves!!

A colleague and I were staying nearby for work and wandered out looking for somewhere to eat one evening. This place looked OK so we gave it a go. I'm a vegetarian and have eaten many, many margherita pizzas, but none that lived up to the one I had here. It was by far the tastiest pizza I've ever eaten. The only problem now is I compare every margherita to the one I had here. I know it sounds over the top, but I was in Rome for the first time this week and even the one I ate there didn't compare. Can't comment on the other dishes and despite the very expensive Moretti beer and the fact that a tip is automatically factored into the bill, I would definitely go back, if ever in the area again.

A group of 7 of us went here for our Christmas party at the beginnning of December. The food and service were excellent. An authentic Italian experience! Great Pizzas.

My and my partner came there for our anniversary. They didn’t take our order for 20min and then came some other people and sit next to us. And they was waiting for 3min and they got served. And when I ask can we be served she told that we need to wait. Just horrible I think she dun it’s because we are gay couple.

What a lovely little corner of London. The photos don't do justice to the new decor with long relaxing leather bench seats and a corner suite, making for a warm atmosphere. Delicate music playing in the background, soft lighting and an intimate feel turn this place into something for a special meal. Go with a girl and be her man.

We’re locals but just discovered Maximo’s. It’s very good. Friendly service, very good food. Excellent pizza actually. Very authentic, even without a wood oven. Booking might be needed as it’s quite small.

Great food. Authentic Italian ! I enjoyed the pasta carbonara which is absolutely stunning and according to the traditional italian recipe. Wine was great and the service courteous. Will definitely back.

Had an impromptu dinner here with my sister and it was just lovely. The food was delicious and authentic. The service was quick and friendly. Prices were reasonable especially given the quality of the food. We had gnocchi and bruschetta to start, followed by a mushroom, cheese and truffle oil pizza and a lasagna alla bolognesa - all delicious. We didn't really have room for puddings but went ahead anyway and the Birramisu (beer - tiramisu!) was yummy, and the millionaire's mousse wasn't too shabby either! If I lived closer I think this would be a regular haunt of mine!

I come here with my fiancee and our families from Italy , and been all Italians we found this little jewel. The food brought me home right away. The cheese where autentica the past was cooked al dente the ingredients fresh and tasty . We loved . We ordered severals things from the menu and all was excellent! The chef Simona came to great us and we can fell from her voice that she love what she does . She is a great chef and we can found all her passions in the dishes ! Special thanks to Massimo and Valentina ( I hope I remember right ) for the Great Services . We are coming back for sure !

Amazing italian restaurant with authentic food and super lovely staff.

Despite not being drawn by the quaint outside appearance of the restaurant, I had read rave reviews about the food and decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly taken aback by the use of classical ingredients in the carbonara - guanciale, pecorino, black pepper and egg yolks. The pasta was fresh if not slightly too soft for my liking but overall the dish was excellent. We were served with a smile and enjoyed a pleasant evening out. I'll definitely be coming back to test out the pizza soon!

Book a table online. Travelled from Surrey only to find the place closed for a holiday. Big disappointment!

The food here is amazing, have to try the Lasagna Alla Bolognese because it’s very good. Pizza, salads, and appetizers are good too. They were absolutely delicious. The service was great and we were not rushed in spite of very planned turnover times.

Not a lot to say. I was served a carbonara in line with what I would have got in Italy, which is something quite rare in London. The cheese and meat platter starter contained quality products. I tend not to order pizza in restaurants, but some people who were with me had pizza and seemed to be happy about it. At the end of the meal, I realised that a week earlier I had spent more for a restaurant-chain experience...

Everything was great at Maximo. Funny and warm staff, amazing Sardinian pasta and bread. Would definitely recommend and return!

Great food and presentation standard for such a small place.We tried fried gnocchi with cheese,bruschetta with sardinian goat cheese and guanciale,ascolana olives(starters)as a main we ordered crab and bottarga ravioli and homemade spaghetti all'amatriciana...so tasty and big portions.The new York cheesecake remind me my grandmother's cake. Is not like some fake Italian restaurants that are serving carbonara with cream and please...stop complaining for silly things just because an idiot posted a silly complain that became huge(nothing better to to than be annoying with hard working people?Come on!).I will definitely go again.

I was surprised after I tried their food how a small restaurant can offer a great standard!From the starter(olive all'ascolana,fried gnocchi with sardinian cheese,sardinian bread with pancetta),to the primo(crab and bottarga ravioli and homemade spaghetti all'amatriciana).Everything was so good and big portions.Also the wine charte is pretty good(primitive del Sale to,I'm in love).Next time I will try spaghetti alla Bolognese or lasagna.I will definitely go back,I recommend it

The best experience that I have every had in London. Everything, from our starters,to our dessert,were amazing. Just one word for the chef: STANNED. Very difficult to find a real Italian restaurant with proper Italian dishes and run by Italian people.The quality of food that we were served was excellent, fresh ingredients and what can I say about the taste,only delicious. Moreover,my sister's cake touched me so much,as it reminded my my granny's xheesecake. The chef is a lovely lady that has found time to chat with us with friendly manners,even if she was eventually super busy. And so I can say about the waitress, really available and nice. I've been a regular for 5 years and was never disappointed. They take pride in what they do and extra care in what they cook. Everything is fresh and if waiting times sometimes are a bit longer it's just because there is no precooked like most of London restaurants. Their main courses are second to none, yummy Maximo Lasagna..if I was to blame them for something it would only be my weight gain..lol

Just for the comment on the TripAdvisor review this restaurant deserves 5 stars. Keep on protecting Italian cuisine!

Guess we are lucky you insult your customers and then the story goes viral around the world. Now everyone, all corners of the world, know to avoid this rude establishment. People go somewhere else where you can food that tastes like you like it. Not some Brit's attempt at playing Italian.

Having lived in Garfagnana Italy for 15 tears. I have come to appreciate truly authentic Italian food. Especially in England where wonderful food is hard to find. Beer is easy. It is an honor to go to a restaurant honoring the true Italian food experience. Those telling the restaurant how to serve the food should either be Italian or quiet.

A true Italian experience with wonderful food and staff. We had wanted to come here for ages and finally did on the weekend. It was busy but had a great atmosphere in that chaotic italian charming way you find in Italian restaurants in Italy. The staff were very helpful with suggestions and we took all their recommendations. Highly recommend!
