Maureens Fish & Burger Bar in Ballymena

Great for traditional fish and chips. Place is spotless. Staff very efficient. A sit in is also available. Tables very clean.

Stopped in this popular takeaway/ cafe for chicken and chip meal. Had not been for while and was interested in any changes that had been made due to change of Management. Greeted by pleasant helpful young girl, great start. Sadly this is where it ended. The other staff are unfriendly and miserable, one shouted out my order and abruptly threw it on the counter. I was aghast as were others around me. NO enjoy your meal here. Sadly more of the same and won’t return. PS the food was not memorable.

I had a sausage supper with 2 sausages and chips. The sausages were hard, undercooked & tasteless and the chips were bland, cold and not plentiful. Right now, I cannot recommend this establishment. There are many others within the town that offer far tastier options than Maureens.

So I needed fast food. I’d spent the day doing library research, and had just 20 minutes until my ride home was due. So I explained that to them, asking if they had anything I could eat in that time. “Sausages and chips?” was their answer. Excellent! Moments after I’d found a seat in the dining area they brought me my plate of food. It was hot, it was fast, and it saved me from dizzying hunger all the way home. Top marks. You get a view of the world going by on the street outside. They had some meal deal where I got a can of cola with it for £4.75, I think. I usually take note of these things, but this time I was in a hurry. I drank my Fanta orange can marching back up the street.

Had a beautiful sit on meal here as a family. Very clean with friendly staff. Proper chip shop chips. Yummy. Definitely recommend.

Go here from time to time for Fish and chips. The battered fried cod is excellent, with well cooked but light batter, not on the least greasy. Been to a lot of Take Aways on Ballymena over the years. Keep going back to Maureen's. It is a Fish and Chip cafe, I wouldn't go there for burgers, chicken or beef. Never sat in, but have always found counter staff present and helpful, and enjoy a bit of chat, it at busy times they are under considerable pressure, so give them a break!

I had their £7.25 fish supper plus small peas for 60p more. Everything was fine - plenty of food. You have a view of the street. Quite a few other diners were in, this was December 20th 2018.

I had fish and chips it was quite good, reasonably priced. Quite a good menu for a fast food bar. Young lady behind the counter was very friendly, I will come back again.

Phoned order through told to come in 5mins for collection to then wait 20mins & then to come home with the wrong order! Clearly the new staff they have don’t have a clue

Avoid this place if you want to receive any type of manners. Re-vamp of staff would help as the food is brilliant however let down by rude staff.

Food is outstanding, staff are outstanding too with their rudeness especially the older women. Old lady at till just barks at you and never says thank you or even smiles. The other lot just ganch among themselves rather than do any work. Total revamp of staff would give this place a complete make over.

Always lovely chips , has table service, well priced for what you get , closes early at night but well worth a visit.

I find it so hard to find somewhere to eat that I want to go back to for a second time..this is the fourth time I've visited this chip shop whilst shopping in Ballymena and have not been disappointed. Chips are very good and was surprised that I could finish the plate food is not greasy defentialy recommend if you are out shopping in Ballymena

The food here is great but the staff have no personality, usually too busy standing talking to each other and just ignore customers or when they do finally serve you they have no customer service skills. (Not all staff are like this) mainly it is the older women who are rude. They are also extremely slow.

First visit and again, a real find. Could not have been served by a more friendly lady and the food was excellent. Extremely good value as well and will most certainly be back when in town again. Highly recommend.

We were desperate to find some food after 8pm and didn't know the area at all. No internet service so couldn't check trip advisor. Found this place on GPS. Very good fish and chips. This is more like a fast food restaurant but it was obvious food was freshly made.

No comer de las tiendas chip muy a menudo pero llamé para tomar distancia de esta tienda de chips en el pasado para handiness. Fue puro lujo. Este lugar debe usar el antiguo estilo tradicional de cocinar patatas fritas y pasta. Difícil de encontrar hoy en día en otras tiendas chip. Lo recomiendo si no en un plan de alimentación saludable.

This is a fish and chip shop at its best. Absolutely faultless fish and chips and customers seem to enjoy other items on the menu. Friendly service and busy.

When I'm in Ballymena I always try to make it to Maureen's for a cod supper - certainly worth the visit.

This is the best chippy in Ballymena without a doubt ..you can either take away or sit in. Staff are great and u get a great feed

Just been here for take away, very disappointed small portion. , big price. Took forever to cook. Photo shows a sausage supper there is 2 sausages underneath the chips this is the smallest of plastic trays. The cheesy chip was bigger...lol. both were over £7.

Unless you are prepared to wait 20 mins for chips avoid here, overrated, plenty better fish and chip bars in the town

My wife and I went into Maureen's fish & burger bar on Christmas Eve ( just for a ' wee change' and both the food & the service were excellent. We will definitely be going back.

We were here for a sixtieth birthday last night. Staff, especially Maureen herself, were super helpful 30 fish suppers came out very promptly. Have to say the fish was excellent. I'm not usually a fan of fish suppers as I find them quite heavy but...

Would always recommend Maureens to anyone and everyone. Love there fish suppers and chicken fillet burgers. To eat in or eat out both never have disappointed me and my family. Service can be slow at times, so I always pre order on the phone before I get there.

Myself and my family always get out of this chippy, we rarely go anywhere else. The portions are good size wise, the prices are fair and the food is always cooked to perfection. We have never had any problems. Staff are very friendly and always try to cater to your needs. Can sit in or take away, food is equally good.

Nice long established chip shop in Ballymena. Friendly staff, clean and somewhere you can sit in and eat. Good good with great menu selection.

I pass Maureen's every day and succumbed yesterday!! I went in and ordered a curry chip. There was a bit of a wait....it was quite busy, but well worth the wait. Good portion size, piping hot and tasty!!! Will go for the fish next time!!

Another of Ballymena's stalwarts still highly popular despite the rapid growth of eateries in the town. Maureen's success is due to consistent quality and very reasonable prices.

walked down Ballymena town the other day and decided to dine called into Maureens , I order a steak burger what a meal 5 star, I think she gets the meat of her barrs butcher first class meat.

Was here during the last week and it wasn't a good experience. When the staff member asks if we want salt and vinegar and we replied vinegar she still salts the food. The chips are far too greasy. The sausages don't even taste right. Won't be back.

Best fish and chips in Ballymena. Always busy but they provide a good phone/collect order option which I recommend.

I love kebabs and burgers. My bf loves the fish. The only downside to it is the waiting time on busy evenings. But it's worth it.

We often eat here when my teenagers are with us in Ballymena, they love it. They serve good chip shop style food. It is always clean the staff are pleasant. And it's good value for money.

Normally the best chippy in Ballymena. Orders were mixed up and the meat in the kebabs was questionable-more gristle than meat but not normally like this so don't know whether change of supplier of meat or just a dud batch. Really disappointing visit for a chippy that is normally great. Hopefully just a one off!

Have been eating here on and off all my life it seems. Quality is usually very good with a very good choice. Like everywhere else, the size of the chicken goujons has gone from too much to eat to "is that it?". Price of chicken must have gone way up. But the orders come out correct, (wasn't always that way), and the food is well cooked. Had a strange problem on last visit. At 9pm on a Sunday night, well before closing, no chips and no chicken goujons because it had been busy. Be prepared for a wait at weekend teatime because it does get very busy.

I had a lovely carryout lunch the fish and chip were superb. The staff are so pleasent the service is quick which is very handy when you only have a short time for lunch.

I love this wee chippy. They food is lovely and the service is fast. The best thing about it though is the staff. They are exceptionally friendly and the craic is great.

This is a excellent restaurant. The service is nice. I had chicken bites and chips which was nice. The pastie bap and chips were nice.

Would attend regularly with a group of friends/family. The food is great but each to their own and all that. However the staff make it very easy to tell if they really want to be there, their manners leave a lot to be desired for and I have heard a few sigh and tut openly on some occasions. This needs to be improved because they have a large amount of 'regulars' who receive this treatment, myself included.

Me and my partner eat out of here quite a lot my partner more so me, the food is always cooked to perfection and the chips are the best chips in the town! The staff are very friendly and to be honest couldn't say a bad word about this place been coming to it since I was a little girl and have never got a bad meal out of it, thanks Maureen and the girls for the great service and delicious chippy food :)

This chippy doesn't stock enough food and what is here is loaded up in grease. This chippy used to be very good but now it's so terrible won't be back here in a hurry.

45 minutes to make two takeaway kebabs with the food sitting ready under heater lights for at least 20 of those minutes. Three people serving didn't have a clue. Need to sort it out Maureen!Will not be back.

It saddens me to say that this place will just waste your money. The food is a complete tray of grease. The fish is more grease than fish the chips are disgusting they also were out of fish cakes when it was one of their busiest days. When asked about how to fix the problem as they were already ordered the person at the frier didn't want to know how to help. The food is currently repeating on me. Avoid here at all costs.

I agree staff appear confused. I wouldn't say rude bot non verbal. food expensive , but I have to say of fair quality. my main gripe is the long wait . wont be back

Called last nite after a recommendation and was definitely not disappointed very clean friendly staff and food delicious will certainly return

Was very disappointed new years eve, arrived at Maureen's early knowing it was closing up sharp for new year, but come on 6.50pm! Went to the door behind another couple who got in just as they were locking the door, I asked the girl could I get something and she replied "no don't you know its new years eve". I wouldn't mind but I have been eating out of Maureen's every Friday evening for years, and the the girl at the door knows that . I wouldn't want special treatment or anything just a bit of consideration, after all, every Friday I cue up for a least 45min waiting for 2 fish suppers as the place is about 6 deep, the food may be good but if they don't respect the people who helped to put them there, then it's a shame.

I eat here quite often , couldn't fault it at all , the food is top notch and the young girl at the till is exceptional , as are the rest of the staff !! Would recommend it highly to anyone .

Myself and my hubby were starting our Xmas shopping and got peckish, we couldn't have picked a better place to have a small burger meal & fish supper. Devine... Will be back again

I eat her about 2-3 times a month and have always found the service of a good standard and friendly. Great value for money. Their gravy sauce is to die for. Have also tried fish, burger, chicken fillet, battered sausages, chicken nuggets, chicken kebab, onion rings and battered mushrooms and have never ever been disappointed

If you like to wait all day for sub par food while 10 staff confusedly stare down about 50 dockets, then this is the place for you.

Never in my life have I been made to wait over an hour for 3 chips, 2 sausages and a burger. It's meant to be fast food. What makes it worse is seeing people arrive after you and still leave with food before you, which seems to be common here. Staff are rude, unfriendly and more interested in talking to each other rather than doing their jobs. Also it's quite common for them to put salt and/or vinegar on your chips even when you ask them not to. Sick of this place, the food is no better than anywhere else and is shockingly overpriced. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Stopped in at maureens on way home to dublin from giant's causeway & it ruined our day!! Both f us felt quite ill for a couple of hours after! D chips were decent enuf but d burgers were undercooked & watery!! Very disappointed because wasn't cheap!! Not impressed Maureen!!

The only bad thing about Maureen's is they are a bit slow, however it's always worth the wait.Great food the Chips are the best and the special burger is very good too!Best chip shop in the British Isles

Was in for Fish and chips during the week fish was very poor quality and the Batter was like like a brick, chips weren't bad could do a lot better.

Great chippy, clean with friendly staff. Food always cooked from fresh so you might have to wait a few minutes for your order. Lovely sausages and chips, no grease here. Their cheeseburgers are good too. Also Maureen's has a good dining area for sitting in if you fancy it. Definitely worth calling in when in Ballymena.

Always consistent, best fish in town. Bright clean cafe area to sit and have a chat. Tea served in proper cups. friendly staff.

Eat in Maureen's all the time and have never been disappointed. Fish is beautiful and everything is always very fresh. Very clean in both takeaway and restaurant. No wonder it got 5 stars. Also found the staff very pleasant unlike some other places where they find it hard to smile.HIGHLY recommend :):)

Brilliant fish, brilliant sausages brilliant nuggets, brilliant chips, I love this place and their food, staff could be more helpful which would be a very good thing.

Yes it does serve very good food, but it isn't a restaurant, its a takeaway, with a big screen TV which does a nice fish supper.
