Mary's Kitchen in Dundee City

Had an afternoon tea on Saturday, it was amazing everything was freshly made and tasted wonderful. Guys were lovely and friendly, Unable to finish everything but supplied boxes to take home. We forgot to take a picture before we started 🤣 PS. carrot cake was beautiful ❤️

Had read good things about this wee place so thought I'd take my daughter in for a sweet treat ,whilst she was home from University! Very rude guy behind the counter, mumbled at us when we entered, caught the sit down part as he didn't raise his head while mumbling! Went to sit down at a small table (only one other couple in there) and got snapped at to sit at a table for two! (2 chairs) Which had no menus on it! Calling us 'Girls' which is rather condisending anyway! Got ignored , not even a smile from him, terrible atmosphere, wasn't even busy but got the vibe that he didn't want us there ! So we left , just didn't feel comfortable at all! Went elsewhere !

Absolutely fantastic experience while visiting Mary's Kitchen Tearoom. Service, food and value for money was excellent. We had the Deluxe afternoon tea and it was worth every penny. The food is fresh made and the owners/staff were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

This place is incredible! I did not know it existed to begin with I must admit, but walking past I had to go inside! It was very busy and is only small and 2 people were working but I must say my food and drink was brought out to me very quickly! I am a chef myself and the food was incredible. I highly recommend and the cherry brownie was the best I have ever had!! I will most certainly be coming back and highly praise this place!

Waiter older man was very rude and condescending Food was decent and if the service matched i would go back. Three of us went for brunch. Fair price fair breakfast. Terrible service. Wont be going back

Mums birthday we had a fabulous afternoon tea for her the service was a bit. slow but very accommodation the afternoon tea it's self was fantastic even git to take some stuff home we would definitely come back

Really lovely cafe, great food, nicely decorated etc. However the best thing is the guy that owns it (Sorry, forgotten his name now!). Was very nice and because we were the last customers of the day, he kindly gave us some cakes which otherwise, presumably would have gone to waste which was a lovely gesture! I had the burger, which was delicious and everything was just great! Will definitely be back here in the future.

Terrible experience today at Mary's Kitchen. Came in with an elderly friend who was unsteady on her feet so sat at an empty table. One of the servers quickly and angrily moved us to a different table and then ignored us. When I asked if we needed to order at the desk or if they would come to the table, the other server said that they would come when THEY were ready! After another 10 minutes further waiting, we left. Such a disappointment.

Party of 9 family went for afternoon tea. The tearoom itself is fantastic, with its lovely decor, vintage cups, saucers and plates, and napkins that are like flowers. The two mem who run the tearoom explained everything perfectly, nothing was too much trouble for them, and they were super helpful. The food itself was to die for, such a great selection of cakes and scones, and the savouries were a nice touch. Good selection of teas too. We saw other people having lunch and their food looked great, so we definitely want to return to try something off the menu. Highly recommend Mary's Kitchen - pay a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Visited Mary's for the first time this morning, what a delight. Probably one of the best breakfasts I've had anywhere in the UK. Really good choice of vegan options and deliciously tempting home baking too. Perfectly kitsch retro feel with great little touches and friendly service. I'll definitely return

Absolutely fantastic experience at the delightful Mary's Kitchen Tearoom on Perth Road in Dundee this morning. The service was top notch, welcoming, and super friendly, and the atmosphere and decor is warm and inviting, charming, and unique. The food was absolutely delicious. I had breakfast with scrambled eggs, a rasher of bacon, Lorne sausage, a sausage link, and toast, and my wife had poached eggs, smashed avocado sourdough toast, and a pot of ginger tea. We got a spiced apple scone to go, which was just the tip of the baked goods iceberg, all of which looked yummy. One of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had… and as folks know, I eat a lot of breakfasts! If you’re in Dundee, make this a stop… and if Home Sweet Home (a TV series I produce in Canada about restaurants, bakeries, and eateries) ever goes on the road to Scotland, I will return to directing and make sure that Mary’s Kitchen Tearoom is on our list! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mary's Kitchen is a special place, "small and fine", as we say. We agreed everything in advance for a small “birthday party” from Germany and it worked out wonderfully. We were 6 people from Scotland, Canada, Taiwan and Germany with a baby. Everyone agrees it was the best afternoon tea.

Have had a few brunches in this gem of a place. Our first stop when up on holiday in Dundee! Fabulous atmosphere, love the background music. Food is of exceptional quality and cooked to perfection! Nothing too much trouble for Billy and Gary. And....the hand made chocolates are delicious! We bought some as a gift and the recipient loved them. Well worth a visit!

We just happened upon this place as we were walking into the city from our hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. The owner is incredibly friendly. We had afternoon tea and felt welcomed. The shop is small but cozy. We were there close to closing and the owner gave us the remainder of his scones that were unsold by the end of the day. Those scones were among the best scones I have ever had so I highly recommend ordering one to go with your tea.

The coffee owner was a shabby man with sweating face, dirty clothes with small room with four table and a few scattered chairs a very dirty table cloth smell of old oil in small room . As if that was not enough the worst thing was the bald man’s attitude when in an empty room with only one person seated on one table , he told me no,no you can not sit near window when I asked for. By shaking his head with really bald head sweat was dripping from his head onto his dirty spattered shirt. Wonder if the other reviews are genuine.

Absolutely lovely place. We went for the deluxe afternoon tea for a friend's birthday. Excellent value for money, fantastic service, lovely selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes. The additional extras were a lovely touch. Would definitely recommend and will definitely visit again.

Loved the wee tearoom on Perth Road when visited Dundee last week. Ordered vegan breakfast with dirty chai latte,oh my days the beverage was boosted with punch of spicy flavour. My tummy was full till the evening! Loved the decòr and the loo aesthetics were also so put well with the main tearoom design. The chandeliers and the tearoom cabinet have really caught my eye and the history of the shop printed on menu card is impressive!!

Lovely cafe and tea room. Enjoyed great food at a reasonable price, friendly service . Just hopefully some gentle feedback re the decor. I love the maximalist approach but could the fairy lights/fake flowers and plants be a bit much. Everything else can stay 😀

Absolutely lovely place. Went for afternoon tea for mother's day and we're not disappointed. Classic afternoon tea with plentiful portions! One of the cakes we got was a chocolate, neither me or my mum like chocolate cake much so asked if possible to swap, which they did for another giant slab of toffee cake which was delicious 😋 really good old fashioned tearoom.

What a find! Loved the mix of interesting interior. Cakes were amazing. Coffee and tea were so tasty. Tea came with a timer for strength what a novel way to deliver. Worth drive to get here.

Gorgeous place with such quality items. Everything was handmade and all the little touches made the afternoon tea feel extra special. Particularly enjoyed the guest scone - white chocolate and raspberry. Hosts were very professional and knowledgable. A great time had by all!

Afternoon Tea is overpriced. How do you justify the price only including one cup of coffee? No problem with food but if a coffee drinker best to give this menu item a miss.

Read about this cafe on line and it did not disappoint. 2 adults, 2 young ladies had the deluxe Christmas Afternoon Tea on Sunday. Quite simply it was amazing. Lovely variety of food, plenty of food, top ups of teas, china plates etc. Received a very warm welcome and take home boxes willingly provided. Would definitely recommend . .

Love this place, visit very regularly with my dad. We always get the same dish (chicken goujons out of this world!) but everything on the menu looks yum. Always have to leave with a glorious cake! Food cooked fresh on the premises, salads are so fresh and the place is spotlessly clean. The owner is a gem too! Always great service.

Very kind with our dogs. Every dish has been prepared with lovely care. What we’ve tasted was delicious. You must have a stop here if you’re in Dundee! If you find it fully booked just wait a little bit. Just have a walk down to the park and come back. You’ll spend quality-time here for sure.

We visited here today, what a wonderful place. Love the vintage decor and ornaments. Was very welcoming and we were shown the delish food we could pick. It was a delight when we were brought the tiered cake stand and then the sausage rolls and vol au vents and chutney and brie tart arrived. It was a delicious sight. I can thoroughly recommend visiting this tearoom, I would suggest booking though as all the tables were reserved, which obviously their reputation is out there. Back to the food, we couldn't manage all of the food and were offered boxes to take home. What a very enjoyable experience and such a lovely thought for my Xmas present. Will definitely be back.

Regular visitor. From tea, coffee and bacon rolls to delicious lunches, the food and service are consistently excellent. Ploughman's lunch is outstanding. Afternoon teas look delicious but just too generous for me to tackle!

Fantastic time food was amazing and cake to die for love this tea room nothings to much for the boys who run this place also the rubbarb and custard truffle are out of this world

My wife and I went here and the pastries looked great. We got an earl grey cake and a caramel apple crumble. The caramel crumble was mouldy. Got a new piece of strawberry crumble which was cold and very disappointing. The earl grey cake was hard and clearly days old. Would not recommend to anyone.

Adorable cafe with brilliant fresh ingredients. Very 1940s to 1950s vibes which was nice. Guys are lovely there - boyfriend recommends the hot chocolate which was about the size of his face and the vanilla Latte I had was the best yet. Brilliant ciabatta sandwich and breakfast meal, 10/10.

Popped in on Wednesday near closing time to pick up a wee treat. Tremendous service and even more tremendous cakes. Even got a few free scones. Highly recommend this wee gem of an establishment. 5 stars all round.

I was meeting a friend for a coffee to introduce her to my son who was only 2 months old at the time. I had never been before and didnt realise how small the place is, the changing facilities were great, clean and there were nappies and wipes to use if you had none. Coffee and cake was delicious, but I felt like me and my son were squished and getting in the way a bit. It's not the cafés fault I just thought it would be worth mentioning incase anyone turns up with a wee tot x

Highly recommended after multiple visits, fantastic selection of food, tea and cakes every time we have been, and the specials can be fantastic also. Not to mention the knowledge of what is in the food being served for those of us avoiding/allergic. Cant wait to return once more.

Never been inside but I’ve ordered their soup of the day from deliveroo a few times now and it’s amazing. Comes with the loveliest bread I’ve ever tasted and I’ve find myself craving this order every day and over any other takeaway. Couldn’t recommend more!!

Very cute family owned café run by the grandson and his uncle. Both were very friendly and approachable. The food was lovely and reasonably price. The cakes looked amazing! I got one there, got one for my friend and got another cake for myself for the next day 😂 got some truffles too, very excited to try them!! Update: went back for afternoon tea and it was lovely still! Onion chutney tart was a bit too strong but otherwise it was good.

Nice and unique wee place but we were not impressed with our Breakfast today. It was not as hot as it vould have been and black pudding not the best but bacon was nice , poached eggs a bit underdone for me .Service was fine but we won't go back for breakfast in a hurry, nice for coffee and cakes I think .

First time eating here. Nice, small and cosy 1930s(ish) era tearoom. Maybe, 7 tables altogether. On entry we were directed to our table. All tables in the tearoom have perspex screens between them. We ordered our drinks first then our food. Menu ranges from breakfast items all the way to main meals, high tea and homemade cakes/pastries. The boyf and I were there for lunch. I got a latte and homemade soup, which was Lentil. The boyf, he got 1 x lorne roll and 1 x link sausage roll and a pot of tea. Both rolls were served with tomato sauce. Both rolls were full of flavour, with no gristle and loads of filling. My soup was definitely homemade, you could taste it. And the slice of white bread that I got with my soup was soft and fresh. Would definately pop back in here for food.

We have been meaning to go back here for quite some time and regret not doing it sooner! The owners here have gone to great lengths to get everything exactly right - the quality of their baking (all baked themselves on the premises), the décor, the service, the toilets … makes you realise how bad some other places actually are. We enjoyed delicious tea, rocky road and bakewell slice. I am a great fan of bakewell slice and this was, without doubt, the best I have ever had. I only wish I could bake like this! The owners took time to chat and are really welcoming. We will be back soon. If you live in Dundee or are visiting, you simply must go.

Haven't had the chance to go sit in yet, but have ordered their fantastic truffles and they are delicious! Much better for a gift than store bought choccies :) Now that I have finally been in for a morning breakfast with my mum, I have to highlight a few things. The quality of everything is excellent. The attention to detail on a very affordable breakfast with tea is superb. There's timers for tea strength, top ups. The staff (owners) care immensely about their customers and are attentive. The decor is quite lovely, the atmosphere timeless. The music perfectly chosen. The bathrooms have subtle thoughtfully amenities for the ladies, it's just all very lush and sweet.

Fabulous cakes and chocolates, excellent meal. Great atmosphere and friendly welcoming service. Can not wait to return.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. The food has been amazing, every single time. Generous portions as well. Don't get me started on the sweet treats! Mind blowing is all I'll say. Vast selection of caffeinated teas and a couple of decaf options. Massive milkshakes and the Knickerbocker Glory was the best! It's a strong YES from us! (didn't get photos of the food, we demolished it all as soon as it arrived at the table but here's a pic of the rose petal tea, which was fabulous).

Just visited Mary’s Kitchen and had a lovely coffee and cake.A great selection of cakes and tray bakes really difficult to choose just one. Highly recommend the lemon drizzle and pear and salted caramel cakes, delicious 😋. Enjoyed looking at all the different vintage teapots and crockery . Will definitely be back again and will recommend to others.

Ordered afternoon teas to have at home for a special birthday. Buffet was outstanding, the freshest of ingredients and the presentation was stunning. Such a wide variety of food was included and they were very accomadating when special requests were made. All party guests were totally blown away with the food. If you are having a special celebration at home, I would 100% recommend.

Stayed in Dundee last week for a few days and wanted to have breakfast out and about. Did not know the Tea Room was there but on viewing the menu and food on show chose to give it a go. It could not have been a better experience from the covid precautions in place, the first class service, price and the best of all food and coffee quality, portions & flavour. Would recommend without reservation.

Mary's kitchen is lovely. I took my son on our trip to Dundee to see if it is where he wants to go to University. If you go to Dundee you MUST visit. The decor is beautiful with attention to detail. Covid safety excellent even in a small place. Staff attentive and polite and not overbearing. My son had never drank tea from loose tea and found it fascinating that we had a tea egg timer and a strainer. It brought back memories of my Grandma and her reading my tea leaves. The food was lovely - I have quiche of the day and a well presented salad. My son had a breakfast butty which he enjoyed. We shared a cake - as I couldn't resist choosing one from the display. We bought a box of chocolates and some macaroons for gifts on our return across the border. It is then that I discovered that the chocolates and the cakes were all made by the owners. A couple of things really added to the whole wonderfulness of Mary's. One was a trip to the ladies lavatory (it is a lavatory and not just a toilet!) There was EVERYTHING you might need on hand. All beautifully presented and smelling the best. The second thing was one of the owners sitting with the young member of staff polishing the cutlery and explaining it's importance. It is this attention to detail that makes Mary's so fabulous and why if my son does move to Dundee I will be insisting that he takes his mother there each visit.

Popped in for a wee treat today. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Had a coffee and some caramel apple crumble. Nice coffee and brilliant crumble. Was a very short break between shifts but the staff accommodated my lack of time and I will definitely be going back on a day off to treat my wife too.

I only go in for takeaway for my lunch break, but I leave I feeling 10 times better. Staff are friendly and take the time to look after each customer in front of them, no matter how busy. Also have a great range of home made vegan treats, and their truffles are AMAZING. You won't find better made local chocolates (trust me I've tried them all lol).

Brilliant wee cafe with excellent cakes, amazing quiche, and even better tea selection. Such a beautiful cafe, with loads of fun touches. Music is great, and the 2 guys serving were both passionate and knowledgeable. A wee gem on the Dundee scene.

Great breakfast. Had Eggs Benedict (which can be a bit hit or miss tbh) but was excellent. Very friendly service. Tea selection looks interesting - next time. Grabbed some chocolates to take away. Really good, makes them themselves!
