Marys Bar in Magherafelt

A very cosy and spotlessly clean bar/restaurant. We loved the gas fires and how polite and friendly the staff were. Good no-nonsense food, excellent service, will definitely be back.

Staff were friendly, we didn't have a table booked but staff accommodated us. The lighting was too dark for eating, ok if your having a drink. I ordered chicken goujons and chips was nice but with the price of the dish I would of expected some salad garnish and a bigger portion. Family members had ordered the soup of the starters menu and ordered a spoonful of mash with there soup. The 3 soups along with a spoonful of mash came too £31.50 which is ridiculous.

Faultless as ever. From the minute we arrived the staff were so welcoming, Cara and Patsy could not have done enough for us. Food Was beautiful and every element on the plate was perfection. Highly recommend for any occasion

Went for Sunday lunch, a beautiful atmosphere with a Jazz Band playing Christmas Tunes , carvery food was excellent, service as always exceptional, thanks to Sharon for the great service and Patrick for the amazing cocktails, Definitely worth a visit as the Jazz band are back next week I believe!

Just had my husband's 60tth birthday celebrations here on a Sat evening. Catered for 45 of us. Mixture if family and friends. Most had a 2 course meal including 7 steaks. Every steak cooked to perfection to requirements. Generous servings and fantastic service.

Bit disappointed overall; meals were okay but a few issues that let the overall experience down. Staff were great; very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Dining room very dark, too dark in places to be able to view and appreciate the food. Main complaints with food were that the tempura batter on the shrimp was a little thick; not as light as expected with a tempura batter, but the lime and pineapple accompaniment was refreshing, flavourful and beautiful. The pork belly starter was delicious. The duck and steak mains were requested to be medium-rare, but duck had to be returned as it was over cooked/well done and the steak was more a medium-well than the medium-rare requested. Despite being over cooked the steak had a lovely smoked taste. However when the second duck arrived, despite specifically requesting for it to be medium-pink inside again it was over cooked, well done and no pink at all. At that stage with sides starting to get cold I decided to just go ahead and eat it than have to send it back again. It wasn’t bad tasting, and as a whole the meal was nice but just disappointed that I’d asked twice for pink duck and twice got over cooked/grey. All sides were lovely, the additional elements of the duck main were very tasty. Sri Lankan sauce unfortunately was a little too salty to enjoy and finish. Desserts were standard, but cheesecake a little bland, stodgy and the fresh cream was over whipped. Overall, service was great, not a bad experience and food was okay, definitely worth a revisit but unfortunately on this occasion left feeling a little disappointed with some elements.

Average pub food but nothing exceptional. The place is quite dark especially in the restaurant area although it is air conditioned. Good friendly service but the menu is limited and quite heavy. Whilst everyone in the place was clearly over 50, they were playing some banal female pop/disco music which was appalling. More suited to a children’s television show.

We where here for Mothers Day. We had rang during the week to make a booking as we haven't been in the town for a while and Marys had been recommended to us(Again). Part of our group has bad mobility, which we didn't mention on the phone, regardless, we where greeted by the most friendliest of ladies at the front door. Who got us access to the lift and had us upstairs within minutes, even though at this stage of the day the place was extremely busy. We got seated and had our drinks very promptly. We where unsure to have the carvery or off the Bar Menu, but the table beside us returned back with there plates from the carvery, there food looked amazing and we overheard them saying how "unreal" it was. Our minds where made up. Long story short, the food was outstanding, the staff where very attentive and witty, even though it seemed to be extremely busy. We will certainly be back. Thanks to all the staff that went above and beyond for us!

Mother’s Day Lunch “Returning customer” after having a great experience here on Father’s Day last year, I decided to treat Mum to Mary’s Bar. Booked a table online and I’m so glad we did as almost every table in the place was occupied. On arrival (1:30pm) we were greeted by a lovely female member of staff wearing a pink blouse, (very appropriate as it was Mother’s Day) didn’t catch her name but seemed to be the manager. She took us to our table and made a fuss of Mum which was great. She was very professional throughout and explained the menu to us which was a 2 or 3 course carvery. Our server then took over (tall grey haired man) who was friendly and helpful at explaining how the carvery system works. We ordered drinks which he brought promptly and we made our way to the carvery station. The selection was good, with loads of meats and the usual trimmings associated with Carvery. I opted for the Turkey & Ham and Mum went for the Roast Beef. We both thoroughly enjoyed our mains and mum commented on how tasty the gravy was. Once finished our plates were cleared promptly and we were offered dessert, Mum and I both opted for Apple Tart and Custard. In summary I’ve had another positive experience in Mary’s, both food and service were on point. I hope to return again soon.

There's a reason on mother's day this place had empty tables. Absolutely shocking service and only thing worse was main course which is ordered as a sit down meal but ended up a carvery crazy. Staff forgetful from drinks, to high chairs and still waiting on food ordered coming out. When we got our carvery which we weren't allowed to choose what goes on the plate, it was cold and like rubber. But don't ask for gravy as your not getting it. Won't be back and in future just stick to the other restaurant in Magherafelt there's a reason there fully booked

Had an appointment in magherafelt we decided to go a little earlier and grab lunch. We ended up in Mary's.Lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere and although quite busy with diners we were seen to almost immediately and seated beside a lovely open fire. We ordered and were served within 15 to 20mins which was great because we were watching the time. Food arrived hot and fresh from the kitchen and delicious we all had different dishes and as you do we tried each other they were all of the same standard we had no complaints at all. Service was fast pleasant and professional.If you are in the area for lunch or dinner definitely give Mary's a try you won't be disappointed.

Lovely afternoon for lunch, the food was tasty and ambience very good. It seems very dark as you walk in but it is very homely when you sit by the fire. The building is fantastic and the decor very ornate, with another section upstairs, and the prices are very reasonable as well.

I don’t even like mushrooms as they remind me of dead slugs, but these garlic mushrooms are like little morsels of heaven smothered in the most tasty, creamy,cheesy, garlicky sauce that is making my mouth water at the memory. Dunking sweet potato fries in aforementioned sauce is just off the charts amazing and I would highly recommend it. If you don’t like sticky toffee pudding then quite frankly there is something wrong with you psychologically, but this is the best I’ve ever had, laced with lashings of toffee sauce and ice cream. I left feeling about a stone heavier but oh so satisfied. It’s a five hour drive from Kilkenny but don’t worry, in the words of Arnie himself...I’ll be back.

Excellent food, staff and entertainment last Friday. Our party was made up of friends who had never been out in Magherafelt-they loved Mary's and were very impressed. A fabulous night! Definitely will be back.

Went for meal and night out for 30th birthday food was excellent first class great atmosphere and staff were brilliant helping us to fulfil a very strange request but Nathan and Thomas were extremely helpful and of course Ciaron was the star of the show I would give him 5 stars just for himself lol

Had a fantastic night in Mary's. Food was first class so tasty. Waitresses, bouncers and bar staff were all so friendly. Special mention to Thomas, Patrick and Ciaran...these staff members went above and beyond! Will definitely be back soon. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful meal at Marys Bar. Didn’t have a reservation but still got a table upstairs. The decor downstairs is very nice, however when you eat upstairs the decor is even better. We we served very promptly and the server was very helpful and polite. The food was very nice and could not have been faulted in any way. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the area.

I had a job to do close by. So drove in to Magherafelt for some lunch. In all my years travelling I had actually never stopped in Magherafelt. I walked up the main street and seen a few places, but Marys Bar took my eye, so I headed in with little expectation except probably being served with typical pub food. I was greeted by a lovely friendly young lady who took me to a nice table and brought me a drink straight away. I was given a menu with some great chooses, but I opted for the special of Sea Bass on a bed of Champ with Chorizo sauce. I have to say, It was excellent! Compliments to the chef. Let me also mention that apart from the food and excellent floor staff, this is a lovely bar with a great atmosphere. I obviously not the only one to notice how nice this place is as most tables had been taken.

When its cold outside, go to Mary's bar who has a fire place, nice and cozy corners to have a lunch or a coffee. Furniture and interior is very warm and modern.

We visited Mary’s as a group of 20 for our annual Christmas dinner and it exceeded all of our expectations. The staff were so friendly and professional and nothing was too much trouble. We were served promptly and the three courses were delicious, in particular the goat’s cheese tart. Several of our party had special dietary requirements and these were taken care of with discretion! After dinner the entertainment was brilliant and the whole place had a fabulous atmosphere. Thanks so much and we will be back soon!

I frequently have lunch in Mary’s and the food and service is always second to none. We also choose Mary’s for a friend’s Christmas night out. Despite the crowd, our food was, as usual, served promptly and was deliciwous and piping hot and then portions as generous as always. We were then able to keep our table as a base for partying the rest of the night! Perfect!

Was at Mary’s yesterday for a booked group dinner. It wasn’t busy. 3 of our group sent dinner back to be reheated, they all should have been sent back. Dinner was mean & disappointing - one person had 2 Brussel Sprouts on their plate & there was no cocktail sausages on any plate. The highlight of the dinner was the extra roast potatoes we asked for because they were hot unlike the rest of the dinner! Very disappointed - won’t be in any hurry back!!

Stayed in Magherafelt recently & after reading reviews & recommended locally we went on a Sunday, for lunch. The upstairs carvery was full but we were told we could sit downstairs by the fire & they would fetch it for us if we wanted. We decided to eat off the menu, Mary's Burger delicious & stuffed peppers also delicious. Superb service. We also popped in for a light lunch on a Saturday, no set lunch menu but we had a couple of starters to share... Lovely.

Mary's was recommended to us by our hotelier, very comfortable, delicious food, fast and courteous service, and no silly prices. Good value for money, and cannot recommend enough!

We called here on Sunday and had the carvery. It was delicious. sometimes carvery can be bland. This was the tastiest carvery I've ever had. The staff were very young but very capable and confident.

Went there for evening mean and the atmosphere was very nice. Plenty of good comfortable armchairs and the service was indeed very good. A nice selection of evening meals on menu and a well stocked bar. We would have liked to stay longer and we will return to this place.

Called in for a late lunch , staff extremely friendly and polite , food came out very quick , I had Cesar salad and sweet potato fries which was delicious, if you leave hungry it’s your own fault , excellent food and service , looking forward to going back .

Mary's bar is my usually place for a weekend out with friends , the craic is great , they do food and I have to say beautiful.

We were looking for a late lunch/early dinner. Mary’s was one of the few places to be serving food at 16.00 on a Saturday and was surprisingly busy with diners. We decided to sit in the ornate airy upstairs bar. Our food was well cooked, good value and served in large portions by uniformly friendly staff. Four of us ate well for £70 before service, which included a bottle of wine and several pints of Guinness.

Me and my husband have always gone to mary’s specially if we can’t think of any dish to cook at home.The food and the service have always been fantastic!

I've eaten here before but not at night. I booked a table which turned out to be a good move as it was really busy around teatime on Saturday. We ordered a mixture of soup and duck pancakes to start with. Service was incredibly quick which made me wonder if the dishes were already cooked and sitting on heat as the pancakes were really dry and impossible to fold without cracking. Mains were a bit the same, I had seabass which was more cooked than I would choose but still very tasty. Only one in our company had the dessert of jam and coconut sponge with custard, beautiful as we all had a wee taste. I couldn't fault the service or friendliness of the waitresses, there was a birthday party going on and it was virtually impossible to hear conversation at our own table, however, low ceilings and large crowds can have this effect. I had a great evening but marred a bit as both me and another person in the company were sick when we got home, non alcohol related either as we were all driving

Your door staff are a shower of thugs. We witnessed 3 man handle a young woman, one of your doormen then punched her twice in the jaw, almost knocking her out and called her a “wee fenian c**t”. A shower of animal in the place and they will get their come uppings!

On Friday 26th January my wife and I went to Mary's Bar upstairs for cocktails. We were greeted by a friendly Barman called Ciaran. The service he provided was excellent, taking the time to explain each of the cocktails available. Ciaran was very professional and watching him make the drinks was like watching a chef prepare and plate a fine meal. It was quite artistic and the drinks were amazing. We will go back!

Myself and friends booked in for a meal this evening. We were very pleasantly escorted to our table by a very polite young lady (seemed to be the youngest there) and this straight away gave me a good feeling about how the night was going to go as she seemed very well trained. The food was absolutely delicious, 100% recommend. The restaurant was extremely busy but our food came out promptly and again the waitress "sarah" was very helpful. This leads me to my only part of constructive criticism as to my entire visit I feel that all staff should have name badges especially for these reasons. I was able to identify "sarah" as she had a tag. But overall this is a really great place and could not recommend more. Really impressed.

Myself and my better half went for a meal on a Friday night. Nicely decorated for Christmas very spacious upstairs as well. Good long bars plenty of staff and friendly. Food was reasonable priced and good quality. Only negative which is small detail, plates were not warmed very well so food cooled down quite quickly.

Although changed a lot since the 90's when carvery lunch at Mry's was hard to beat the new Mary's lunch Menu is modern, reasonably price, tastes well and is served in nice surrounds by helpful staff

Nothing in this place makes much sense. The decor reminds me of a German brothel. Friendly welcome from the waitress. Pint arrived swiftly along with menu. It was then we realised that the ostentatious decor was the polar opposite of the food on offer. Bland meat and two veg. Nothing interesting or inspiring. Meanwhile, offensive hits from the 80’s blared out adding another confusing dimension to the experience. We decided to opt for the carvery. As I sat down, I regretted my decision to come here. The meat was fair enough, but I didn’t plan on eating it with Belinda Carlisle and Spandeau Ballet in the background. Food was stodge. Good job Billy Bragg was on hand to sing 2, 4, 6, 8 while I horsed it into me. I couldn’t have done it without all the cheesy 80’s gym music to motivate my mandible into action. A bit of contemporary classical music and a decent menu and I wouldn’t even be writing this.
