Had a bad experience today. We ordered the Marus bhajiya for 10.99. She bought a small plate of bhajiyas instead of the big one. She gave a big plate to both the tables next to us. We could clearly see that we were fooled. At the time of paying when asked about the plate was told that we were given the right plate. Felt cheated. Will never go again.

The Pani Puri was really hard I would not recommend it, the manager was really disrespectful, he was not apologetic and he confirmed the Puri were bought from next door (prashads) he gave attitude and made our total experience unpleasant until the next customer sat next to our table and order the same Pani Puri's and made a complaint too. That's when he took the Pani puri off our bill. I would recommend everything else but the Pani Puri.

Just wanted to share my very unpleasant experience from last Saturday. Went there with my daughter to order take away. I was given the menu with Crispy bhajia option of £10.99 , which I ordered and paid for 2 boxes. Just after paying by cash I noticed there were two different sizes boxes were behind the till one with £10.99 and another one for £15 . I asked about the difference in the quantity the Gujarati girl said not much difference and when I asked about the weight they weren’t sure however the £15 box was nearly the double size so asked to change my order to bigger box instead of 2 boxes to the South Asian guy who was there with the girl on the counter . He not only refused to change the order but was so rude when me and the other customer inquired about this new size of boxes. He left the counter and went inside the kitchen and the girl said they can not change my order or refund the balance money even though I asked straight away after paying in cash as I didn’t see the offer and the boxes were kept behind the till. It’s not about the money but matter of principle that the way they treat the customers by raising voice, manipulating and ignoring . How pathetic was that. The guy on the till had no respect for women and no customer service whatsoever . Very cunning girl as she said we can not take the money out of the till and replace your order even though it was for the same food but different size.

Not sure why this place is getting such a bad rap. I’ve been going for years and since the change of owner I don’t see any change in the taste of their signature Maru Bhajia or chutneys. In fact we travel from Croydon to just have them! New owner is super pleasant every time we’ve seen him. Sadly i have too add to the already bad reviews since this restaurant has changed hands, the service is poor for waits of upto half hour for bhajiyas and tea, and the single/double portion of bhajiyas has changed to a single medium size at a ridiculous price of £10.99. The mogo is thinner hard and crispier rather thanthe chunkey soft pieces you used to get and the sauce chutney on it is very liberally scattered that you have to ask for extra. Thed young waitress is rude and does not distinguish between people who had ordered 1st or second and are waiting when delivering food to the tables as occording to her it's all arriving at a the same time. For two of us It cost us £40 for 1 plate bhajiyas, 1 plate mogo 1 passion juice and 1 tea and 1 take away cutlets. which is definetly extortion. We will certainly not be dining there after having attended for nearly 30 years as one of our favourite eating places.

Dating back well over 50 years and standing the test of time and taste, bhajias here are still some of the best you'll ever have, with decor to match. The signature bhajia's are ok but lack something from the original quality of yesteryear! Bring back the Kenyan way! They could really do so much better! Most people come here because of the reputation built over decades and the link with East Africa. Plus after all the walking in and out of shops you're hungry so seems like a good deal! At £9.99 per portion of bhajia's seems quite expensive for what it actually is. Have some happy memories of many years ago at this place, but sadly not the same! We have been regulars at this establishment for many years and took delight in the house speciality, the famous bhajiyas and the chutneys served with them. More on that later. The establishment it’s self is a minimalistic cafe, it appears to be recently refurbished. Under the new ownership all and any evidence of the place Kenyans remember with warm affection has been completely stripped and removed. This isn’t a place you go to for style and outstanding service. You come here to either eat or pick up a carry out. Hygiene, service and cleanliness are at the bottom end of what you’d expect for a very cheap cafe. But this is a modest cafe that exceeds restaurant pricing by a CONSIDERABLE amount. Don’t be fooled. This is definitely NOT a cheap and cheerful place. Try expensive and frustrating. Under the new ownership things have slowly changed, and not just the interior. Subtle changes to the taste of the secondary menus items have become quiet noticeable along with extortionate pricing and surprisingly only one young woman to serve the entire restaurant, busy times or not. So there was very lengthy waits for food and drinks but constantly pestering her isn’t a help to anyone. Now for the really sad part… the bhsjiyas. Alas, they are no more. The familiar, comforting taste that takes us back to Kenya is now gone for good. For reasons only known to the new ownership, they have messed with and interfered with a time old recipe and now serve a version of Marus famous bhajiyas, not the actual authentic bhajiyas you’d expect from the home of such a celebrated snack. But it gets worse…. What was once the single portion and double portion choice is now a single portion choice only… EXCEPT it’s prised at the SAME £10 PRICE as a double portion. A small plate for £10. And for your £10 you get a saucer with mostly bits of fried batter and the odd piece of potato bhajiya if your lucky. The famous chutney is gone too.. it’s clearly made from the very cheapest ingredients with none of the flavour. It’s basically a red mush. And speaking of red mush, Heinz Tomato Ketchup this establishment has historically served has been reduced to some generic slimy sweet battery acid type condiment you’d expect at a football match. The hospitality industry in general has aggressively grabbed the huge opportunity to exploit and punish loyal customers and casually blame COVID, Brexshit etc for their unburdening greed. But this establishment has not only done that but also completely removed any component of quality or care for the legacy the new owners have brought into. It is the needless, greedy ugly and completely unnecessary end of an era. Would I eat there again? I perhaps my if this establishment wasn’t so blatantly greedy and utterly disrespectful to the spirit of the original Marus. Sadly, I will never visit again. RIP Marus Bhaijyas

The quality has been consistent over the 30 years we have been eating here. However, it was so cold the last time we went with the doors being left slightly ajar. Not so comfortable to eat in. And not convenient for us to take away as we are not local to Alperton. But of course we will be back!

This place used to be the place to go, food has changed drastically, the bhajia now have no taste, no salt and far too crispy like eating biscuits. We are very sad as this was a place to go to for many many years. Only the chutney is still ok but considering they are charging far more for food, the quality needs to be equally as good

No value for money, paid for two large portions, one was full plate other was a quarter less. Served people on other table first who arrived and ordered at least 10 minutes later.

Service was very slow & poor, waited around 5 minutes and had to ask for menu. Kept waiting a further 10 minutes as they were too busy to take our order. Then waited a further 20 minutes before our 1 plate of bhajia arrived. Asked for jug of water which they gave us but without any glasses. Had only 1 person rushed off her feet trying to serve everyone.

Crispy bhajias are the best in probably UK, but they seriously need to work on the service side.

Bhajia not the same as when I used to go as a kid. Service was slow. Asked twice for drinks and they forgot, so ended up without any drinks.

Difficult to rate this establishment as their eponymous Maru's Crispy Bhajiya are, almost, world renowned among Gujaratis and are as good as 60 years ago. However the current management seems uncertain, and I am and not sure if the owners are even the original family. This management seems glum and uncommunicative.

We used to visit here often and fondly remember their famous Bhajias. Sadly I think the owners or chef has changed over the years and the food is very bland and not tasteful. Also service isn’t great and the toilets didn’t even have running water which is pretty disgusting and unhygienic. Sadly after many years, we won’t return.

Service was super slow I only waited for takeaway for samosa and spring rolls... It wasn't even busy at that time as most tables had been cleared and the rest served... Food was okay spicy and crispy enough but flavour was off for me.

Food was slightly above average, you'll find better dishes all along Ealing Road. The so called Indian coffee was a normal coffee, but was more expensive. The passion fruit lasse had less milk than juice (and water?) and was not what I usually get as a lassi.

Just visited Maru’s, can’t believe how bad service has got. The resturant was empty yet it took 40min to get 1 plate of Bhajia’s, 1 hr to get a cup of tea and milk shake. After one hr we were told they had no mogo. No apologies for the delay in receiving order and yet they insisted on charging service even when the service was terrible. I would think twice about visiting here again

Coffee is fine, but service varies wildly, from welcoming to pretty contemptuous. I'm not really into spending my money somewhere that the staff only bother to be pleasant 50% of the time. Cable Cof
