Pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste of the food here. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked delicious, nice menu choices, decided on the Halibut starter and Fish and Chips for the main course finishing off with a trio of local ice creams. Everything was really tasty, presented nicely and served with a smile.

Stayed at Fairfield for 3 nights with my family and ate dinner in Martin's grill restaurant every night, always superb. Menu was excellent balance of good quality food without being too stuffy and feeling like you hadn't eaten. Always struggled to decide what to go for, so many great choices on the varied menu, often with evening specials. The scallop starter and beef main are highly recommended. Great sunset views across to arran.

We enjoyed a meal here for our wedding anniversary and found everything delicious. Hubby had mushrooms in a cream sauce in filo pastry to start with and I had a baked Camembert. Everything was beautifully presented and our waiters were very pleasant.

The restaurant is spacious and nicely furnished. The menu was varied with a good choice of both starters and mains. The mussel starter was excellent and also the prawn and avocado. The fish pie was generous filling with fish and prawns but the method of heating resulted in the potato topping and the mussel garnish being a little dry. The stone bass was very tasty but strangely it is the first time I had been given half of a fillet.Anyone with a hearty appetite would have found the portion size a little small. The staff were friendly and attentive.

We wanted to book a table for 2 people via the Groupon website for a Hendricks Gin Afternoon tea. However when I phoned to book this, I was told they had now changed their afternoon tea for a Charlie and the Chocolate factory afternoon tea. I booked a date and time and when we turned up, there seemed to be confusion about what we had booked and where we should sit. Eventually they put us at a table with a menu for the afternoon tea, which included bubble gum 'cocktail' and chocolate milkshake... The way they served the food was very imaginative, as the sandwiches, scones and chocolate cakes came in a square box, which was very interesting. It seemed all freshly made and was tasty enough. However I had looked forward to a shot of gin and a gin jelly..... The hotel itself has fantastic views over the beach/shore and I can imagine that people from the city would love to stay here (I stay close by so used to the views) The staff was all as helpful as possible and served us in time without too long waiting times. Would recommend the restaurant.

Martins Bar & Grill is set within a very tasteful conversion from the original building leading to a spacious conservatory. The bar is modern with a well stocked gantry. It overlooks a decking platform outdoors, an ideal facility on sunny days.As you make your way from the bar to the restaurant, large and extremely comfortable leather sofas are at your disposal for pre-dinner drinks while you peruse the menu. The dining area is intimate, created by the low ceiling within the conservatory, subdued lighting & candlelight. I went for a family lunch . I have been wanting to go for a long time to try the food here as you read reviews and think you will have a lovely meal . I say a mixed review becouse who said their lunch was nice and others said it was average . My starter was very salty I think they over done with the soya and I was lucky I had one noodle on the plate . I was not the only person who thought that . The meals were not that hot when they came out . As it was not busy you would expect nice hot meals and plates , food cooked there and then. . My friend who had a caesare salad asked without the capers said rather than tasting of chicken it was very fishy .So did the capers get picked out !!! For the standard of restaurant you would think a salad would be freshly made . My uncle who had a shepherd pie said he is still looking for the meat that was suppose to be in it . At the end of our meal we all had teas and coffee . A bit over priced for a small cup of tea £2.95 each . 3 people had tea they came with a pot of tea poured out the tea and took the pot away . A bit much nearly £9 for a small cup of tea . They could have left the pot at that price .The restaurant is lovely inside . The staff friendly but the lunch a bit disappointing .

I was staying at The Fairfield House Hotel for three nights whilst on a golfing tour of the UK.I arrived at the hotel by car late in the afternoon and was tired by the time I arrived. I decided to dine in the restaurant as it was on site and easily accessible. The decor was subdued yet enticing, very well appointed and modern. Silver service with beautiful table linen, set to perfection. I later understood this restaurant has won Rosette awards, so it was no surprise to find the quality of the meal excellent.I was so impressed with the standard and quality of the meal presented the first night, I just had to return to sample other items on the menu on the subsequent two nights. A fine dining experience on each occasion.I tried a variety of entrees, main courses and deserts during my three nights and was delighted on each occasion. I find it very difficult to choose the best of them as they were all superb in their own way. If really pushed, the entree of Fritto Misto was excellent, the main course of Spicy Prawn Salad, composed of chilli and ginger king prawns and accompaniments, and the dessert of champagne jelly were those which stick in my mind most. The service is excellent, as is the spacing between courses. Portion control is very generous. The wine list is extensive with wines drawn from all over the world. I chose French wines, the Chablis of which was excellent.Chef Liam is to be congratulated on his work. He made my stay in Ayr, at The Fairfield House hotel, memorable for all the right reasons. When I return to Ayr, I will certainly be choosing Martin's Bar and Grill to dine.

This modern glass restaurant is the perfect counterpoint to the old-world Fairfield House. Open, airy, and with panoramic views of the Firth of Clyde and sunset over Arron Isle. Started with the local smoked salmon with blinis, creme fraisch, and caviar-which was wonderful! I chose the aged fillet of beef, with a perfect peppercorn sauce, and finished with our favorite; sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. An absolutely delicious meal. My cousin chose a bright and refreshing white wine, from Martin's extensive wine list, and reported that it accompanied her fresh fish entree perfectly. The service was superior, and the guests were a lively mix of hotel guests, local regulars, and festive travelers. We thoroughly enjoyed our gourmet dinner at Martin's Grill, at the Fairfield House Hotel, in Ayr, Scotland!

We booked this restaurant based on all the previous great reviews. We started with the Indian combo which was dire, we are not comparing it with combos from Indian restaurants, it did not even come close to combos available in many supermarkets. Our mains were halibut which was tasty but the sirloin which was supposed to be medium was over done. The onion rings were cold and it did not help matters that this course was served on a cold wooden chopping board. There would have to be many changes before we would ever consider going back. Ditch the combo and the chopping boards and purchase plates and a thermometer.

Does make a difference to your drink IMHO!The staff are well presented and most respectful. One of my pet hates is when youngsters wear low slung trousers and shorter length tops, which then leaves their flesh around their middel on display. Yuk!!! Not so here thankfully. We dined here twice, first after arriving to Hotel at 9pm (earlier than we thought thanks to a delayed Ferry... sounds confusing anyway!) we planned to dine in Ayr, but on arrival to the Hotel we were delighted to know that the kitchen was still open for us.Food was of a high standard, Grouse with Scotch Grouse egg for a starter and Venison Wellington could be tricky enough, but was well presented and tasted exactly as I envisioned.Service was excellent - good Wine selection and although perhaps not a sommelier, our wine waiter know his stuff. On our first night, I thought the staff dealt very well, with some very ignorant guests, loud, shouting down cell phones, and even worse clicking of fingers for attention - personally I would have asked them to leave for that alone - but showed a high tolerance, which can be a skill on those occaisions (for visitors to Scotland, please note these were not Scottish guests!).Dined on our third night, same menu (not sure how often it changes) but chose different dishes - surprised I suppose that no Fillet Steak available, but we tried the lamb which was again served with a great presentation and taste.Very classy food at a reasonable price, I think judging by the score on Trip Advisor that this is a hidden gem, as it's part of the Hotel, but very close to the town centre. Will be returning here to sample hopefully more delights on their two rossette menu.

I didn't read any reviews before going to Martins. There were six of us, aged mid 30's to mid 70's. We all had good sized portions, exceptionally well presented, very enjoyable food. Everyone cleared their plates and raved about the food. We didn't buy any wine so can't comment on the price but we had tea and coffee and there was sufficient for everyone to have two cups each. We moved to 'soft seats' to enjoy our coffee looking out at the ocean. Drinking water was put on the table without having to ask for it which was a nice touch. The bill came to £20 per head which was main course, desert and coffee which we thought was very good value for money given the high quality of the food we had just eaten.Toilets were immaculately clean, you could have eaten your dinner off the floor it was so clean. It was a Sunday lunchtime and the resturant was very quiet, only six other people in there, perhaps others had been put off by the bad reviews so it was difficult to judge the atmosphere. Don't let them put you off visiting this place, we found it good value for money and will visit again.

I would not have minded paying so much for decent food, but the quality of the food and manner in which it was cooked was disgraceful. My main course wascompletely unedible and when i complained i wsa simply told that i should have said straight away (and therefore they took no responsibility for it). I found this response terribly rude and unsatisfatory. Others i was dinning with shared my feelings regarding their food. The steak that others ordered was actually curled on their plate, and it looked and tasted as though it had been thrown into a deep fat fryer. I would definately warn anyone going their to change their mind about doing so, we felt very dissapointed on leaving and would certainly not return,

Very disappointed, nice surroundings, however food very bland. Think the chef lost his salt cellar! Mashed potatoes were the worst I have ever had,Cullen Skink the same.

Good Classic Chippy. Food was really good, nice batter no soggy bits. Well priced too.
