Marmalade in Cheshire West and Chester

This was our first visit to Chester, and amongst many places to eat we chose here and I'm so glad we did! Service was lovely, everyone was smiley and polite and very welcoming. I ordered the eggy bread with bacon, mushrooms and tomatos and honestly it was the best breakfast I'd had in a long time. so much so me and friend went the next morning before our 2 hour journey back home.

Great. Great. Great. Good ambiance. Great service. Great food and very reasonable. It's a little gem of a place and wish they would put on an evening meal service.

Without doubt this is a lovely place to visit (ensure you book) Food and service has always been thoroughly enjoyed. The only negative I can say, is that if you are serving soup which has always been very tasty, then there is an expectation a bread roll will be included in the price and not an additional charge.

A super place for a light meal or a drink. Our freshly prepared food and friendly staff made our visit very pleasant indeed (and the cakes are superb). Best to book in advance if possible as we have previously been unable to get in. From the outside, this place looks small, but upstairs is airy and modern.

Terrible customer service rude staff not worth the effort to get to. There are simple ways of dealing with seating and the staff have no clue

I came to marmalade for lunch after seeing all the gluten free reviews. It didn’t disappoint! It was so lovely to be able to go somewhere and actually have lunch and not to have to sit watching everyone else eat lunch while I have nothing or a dry gf brownie. Everything on the menu was either already gluten free or could be made gluten free. The lady we spoke to was so lovely and very knowledgeable, she asked if I could tolerate gluten free oats (which I can’t) and explained the few cakes I couldn’t have because of this fact. There was such a huge range of cakes I was disappointed I didn’t have room to try any after the lunch! I will def visit again when I am next there.

You know when you're looking for somewhere that looks like it'll do a nice lunch with some great bakes and sweet treats to finish off with, but have a dog so your choices can be limited? That's how we stumbled across Marmalade and we were so lucky there just happened to be a spare table the moment we walked in, as we saw several people regrettably turned away because this gem of a place was packed. Once our lunch arrived we could see why. Generous sandwiches to say the least, with almost a full salad on the side, tasting every bit as fresh as they looked and under-priced if I'm honest. The dessert selection was lovely and my husband got quite a shock when he was served with the biggest slice of chocolate cheesecake ever... but so incredibly light, almost mousse-like, he had no problem demolishing it! What was just as good as the food was the service. I was worn out watching the speed of the staff keeping everything moving and everyone happy over two floors. Yet they still had time to recognise and greet returning and new customers, answer the phone and serve... honestly they're a credit to the place and I made a point of passing on a tip to the lovely, efficient, whirlwind of a lady who found space for us and our dog buggy. We have a new favourite place to eat in Chester... and we'll be booking before for our next visit.

We did not book-highly advised for lunchtime - but luckily got a table for two downstairs. My aunt had mushroom soup and a salmon sandwich. Both were excellent. I had crayfish tail and avocado sandwich. See the photo. Enormous and I took half home for my tea. Also excellent along with the salad and homemade coleslaw. Service was attentive and friendly even though it was very busy and unbooked customers were turned away. How many businesses can do that? To top it all off my aunt took home an iceberg sized piece of caramel cheesecake. Good food and very good value. Book ahead to avoid disappointment as they say.

First visit to this lovely little cafe and I will definitely be returning. The decaf loose tea was gorgeous. Omg the caramel cheesecake was the nicest cheesecake I have ever had. It was huge but it was so light that I ate every single bit. The staff and manager were so lovely and friendly. Great business, thank you.

We parked the car, and 5 minutes later we found this lovely cafe. We all had home made soup and a sandwich/panini, plus a cuppa. The service was superb and we were made to feel very welcome, so much so that we returned for brunch, then coffee during our stay!

I chose the perfect breakfast sandwich but got the wrong one by accident and was halfway through it before I realised! It was absolutely delicious! Their bacon is beautiful and their scrambled eggs were a symphony of fluffy perfection! If you are a fan of hot chocolate then this is your place to be in Chester, a whole page of the menu is dedicated to it! We’re going for lunch next time but will definitely be back for breakfast.

The internet told me this place does exciting hot chocolates, and their Honeycomb one was indeed a sweet treat…especially since it was so nippy outside!

Booked a table for 2 at the Marmalade café what a great little venue. Couldn't fault the service and food highly recommend will defiantly return.

Always reserve a table as it is always busy. This tells you everything. The quality of the food is truly amazing. The staff are lovely and the whole experience is brilliant. It’s our go-to place when we visit our son at university. The chilli jacket potato is to die for!

We visited on the first Saturday in January for breakfast, having booked in advance. We all enjoyed the English Breakfast - which was freshly cooked, tasty and clearly made using quality ingredients. The service was attentive and friendly. One of our servers had just started working at Marmalade that day, and she too was brilliant. Thanks for a great experience, Marmalade!

This lovely cafe and the staff - especially Dawn really do go out of their way to make you feel at home. The food is fab they always have 3 soups on board I love their crayfish tails & avocado on granary is just lovely. My friend has jacket potato with tuna and my other friend had poached salmon all lovely.

One can only presume that this "cafe" is as good as it's cracked up to be as you need a "reservation" (it's a cafe!) to get breakfast at 0930 on a Monday.

We visited twice for breakfast and found the ambiance upstairs really cosy for such a central location. The full breakfast was delicious, with high quality local ingredients, while the coffee warranted a second cup. The staff are very friendly and made us feel welcome.

Very popular venue and I found our why! Good breakfast choices with all the usual options.i enjoyed a veggie breakfast including a regular hot drink for £11.95. Everything was good, without being outstanding.

Third visit to Marmalade and it did not disappoint. Wonderful service and the staff are very welcoming. They cater for and deliver excellent gluten free options. Well worth a visit but best to book in advance.
