Fish was very good, not too greasy. Chips were a bit undercooked. Very slick operation. Good local chippy

Called the shop Monday to cater for my husbands 30th on the Saturday. Markyate fish bar couldn’t be more helpful. Really good price. The portions and the food was soo good. Not one thing was left!! Everyone loved it. Highly recommended. Staff are always friendly. They look after everyone. Amazing!!

Used this fish and chip shop on many occasions and have never has any complaints. They're all so friendly, made everything fresh for you and its very rare you are waiting long for your food. Perfect, thank you!

Its a pretty decent chippy. I always find the guys pleasant and not had a bad meal. Under this lock down to be able to call ahead and pick up F and C at a decent price I am a happy camper. I have tried the kebabs too and they are not bad. This place isn't Godferrys in Harp for Fish n Chips or Efes in Dunstable for kebabs but its really handy for the villages and the best around compared for like for like.

We really love the food from here great every time wether its chicken kebab or fish n chips its great and if we're not really hungry good value half chips is sensible the guys are so freindly

Only have fish and chips as a treat a few times a year,but have tried many locally,this is by far the best yet,tasty cod,lovely chips all fresh and non greasy.

Friendly Team, delivering excellent quality food. Fish & Chips are great and so are the Kebabs/Burgers. You can queue on a Friday night, but well worth the short wait.

We have fish and chips from here every Friday night and it is lovely and would highly recommend both in respect of quality and value for money

You can allways get what you want cooked to perfection not greasy and service is great. Allways a queue but you do not have to wait long the fish is allways a nice thick piece and cooked

Must compliment them for their ability to recently provide us with 34 portions of Fish and Chips for our annual Holiday @ Home event at Markyate Baptist Church. Well cooked, all hot and deliovered bang on time. Thanks Guy's.

Was really hyped up as had heard through family and friends how good the fish and chips were here so we decided to pop down last night... service was good but I’m sorry to say it was up there with the worst takeaways I ever had which was such a shame. It was so so greasy and when I opened it when we got home everything was just stuck to each other so all the liquid batter just came straight off into packaging and chips as I should have asked them to be packed separately. The chips were so greasy that they were almost liquified in places and worst of all the fish still had the skin on! Don’t understand why takeaways do that! Really not good unfortunately especially with such high hopes :(

I was surprised how good the fish and chips were and highly recommend it. It's a fish and chip shop so not huge menu, but who needs that when the cod and chips are so good!

We've been coming here for 10 years now and have always had great quality fish and chips and excellent value for money. The portions are humongous, the fish is cooked fresh and even if it's ready it won't have been sitting around in the heater for more than 10 minutes. The staff are always friendly too.

I have been here before and the quality was just as good. The food was hot and I was not loaded with a bucketfull of chips. The but though is why in the Midlands and the south do chippies not remove the skin from the fish? No self respecting fish shop on Yorkshire would cook fish with skin on.

So handy having such a delicious fish and chip shop in the village. Love their pizzas and kebabs as well. Staff are very friendly and never too much of a wait. Would recommend

this is a bangin phish an chipe shope thay cell gr8 fud 4 tak awey and thy have the most uber tasting chips and they give you a solid amount of fish for a sick price

Friendly service and delicious food. I am staying locally and the hotel food is awful. This place saved me (thank you!) I am going back tomorrow night and will be sure to return on my next visit (next week!).

Tiendo a visitar esta tienda de pescado y chip cuando estoy pasando en los M1. Es conveniente también como el pub enfrente no importa que usando su retrete. Cada vez que me he parado (unos seis) para pescado y patatas fritas han sido de muy buena calidad. La solla especialmente es muy fresco y bien preparado, no mucho mejor. Las patatas fritas no son las mejores que he probado, pero, sin embargo, siempre es bueno. Siempre hay una cola, ya que parece muy popular

After reading all these fantastic reviews I thought I would give it a try, what a mistake! The chips were cold and as if they'd been fried over and over then just left to sit there for I don't know how long, my fish had a funny smell to it and my husbands pie was soggy... I don't live in Markyate but when I called to complain they hung up twice... What a shame...

I pre-ordered Fish and Chips for a large group of hungry men on a Wednesday evening. Whilst they had had a run of chips just as I arrived, the fish was freshly cooked and they really got stuck in to get the chips ready on time. Great price, excellent service, freshly cooked fish and chips ( very man sized portions) - what more could hungry men want. Brilliant!

We live in Markyate so this is our local 'chippy' The food served is always cooked fresh and the place is so busy almost everything turns over quickly and is therefore cooked to order. In fact on a Friday evening the queue stretches out the door. Fish is as good as you will get in any chip shop and people travel from many surrounding villages to us this restaurant. There's a competitor in nearby Redbourn, whch seems to be attracting some people from Makyate. We've tried them and in my opinion, Markyate's fish is every bit as good. If I had any minor criticism it's that they chips sometimes can be a bit 'scraggy' .that's as best as I can describe them. Maybe it's the way the potatoes are cut but there's definite room for slight improvement there. However, even the chips are freshly cooked and are 'OK' so no major problem. As another reviewer also mentioned, they do a good range of other take away foods. Excellent Kebabs and what look like good Pizzas, though I've never tried one myself. All in all, a very good Fish N Chip shop

The fish and chips are always consistently cooked and fresh, and the staff always ready to provide exactly what is requested. The bonus is that the kebabs, pizza's and pies are again excellently well cooked so you can never be short of some great take away food.
