Having visited on a regular basis I have been unable to get my coffee at the same time as my snack. On this occasion the snack was delivered 20 min before the coffee arrived. I had to chase twice for the drink! There was general dissatisfaction within the restaurant and the experience was very poor indeed. Buck up your ideas M&S or you will damage your reputation for good.

Sadly not the kind of experience I look for when visiting a cafe. Ordering system via screen which I suppose some might find easier but i just think it’s one more example of a loss of face to face customer service. I asked if there was another way we could order. At least some other fast food outlets offer an alternative but M&S don’t. Inaccurate information on the screen . We waited 20 minutes for 2 teas and 2 pieces of cake only to be told part of our order was unavailable. 2 teapots arrived and only one cup. I thought M&S prided themselves on customer service . I doubt we’ll return when this is what they now offer,

Stopped for a M and S breakfast on a journey to Norfolk. Good grief. What a terrible disappointment!!!!!! A new so called revamped cafe. Gone were the pleasant staff to take your order. Replaced with soulless, irritating and time wasting ordering screens. The whole place smacked of a Korean self service fast food outlet. Yes the food came by hand...... A dour and miserable staff member who arrived without a word and plonked the plates on the table. So, this is the new shape of M and S. Unfriendly, sterile and frankly unpleasant. We won't be frequenting another M and S anytime soon. Wake up M and S. Revamping doesn't make it better. Indeed...... It is appalling.

Very disappointed. Dreadful experience. The whole thing just doesn’t work really. Plus you have constantly someone shouting out numbers for the table order. I would not bother using it. Too much to mention in a small box just suffice to say I won’t be coming back. No for thought for utensils , serviettes and sugar etc 🙄 dish washer not working so paper dish for cake and take away mug for coffee. Not obvious as hidden by a table and no sign up. Just very shoddy all round . Plus the cake is too small

First visit to the restaurant.I was shown how to order by very nice server who made this review a 2 star instead of a 1. I was given my tracker and told to find a seat. After 15 minutes or so, I asked the same server if I should be waiting this long and she chased it up and came back with my tea, which was a little stewed and lukewarm. I noticed the tracker was low in charge, hence no tracking. Not impressed. Not sure I will try the restaurant again which is a shame as the food hall and store are very good.

Restaurant very busy upon arrival and told after placing order that there was 30 minute wait time. My mother's tea cake arrived after 15 minutes and the two teas arrived 35 minutes after initial order. Staff just saying "we are short staffed" and there was no manager around to deal with all of the complaints.

My husband and I went for brunch yesterday. The self service was easy and our food came very quickly and was lovely however M&S have not quite got the clearing of tables right . Many tables still had plates , cutlery , cups all over them and they were dirty. There were many tables free but they had not been cleared and cleaned . We had to move this ourselves and a few people were wiping down their tables with wipes and clearing themselves . If they sort this it is a very nice dining experience

We came here quire a lot over the Lockdowns when you had to order at the till. When it was like this it was easy to get a hot drink and sit down with it while it was still hot. It was also nice to be served by someone who could let you know of anything was out of stock and to chat to. Now it's self service from touch screens. We ordered 2 coffees and specified extra hot. After 15 minutes they arrived extra tepid do we sent them back. 10 minutes later we got reasonably hot coffees. Nearly 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee. Too many people crowded into one area now and very noisy and chaotic. Too many members of staff wandering around with orders. Lots of uncleared tables. M&S have lost sight of what are were good at...customer service. Waitress on the other hand are still doing face to face ordering and it puts M&S to shame.

Eaten in the restaurant at M&S London Colney a couple of times, mainly coffee and cake. Today we wanted lunch. The screens make choosing very easy, but today, at 13:15, so many dishes were unavailable. No baked potatoes, no salads! I ended up with what was described as a toasted ham & cheese sandwich. It was sloppy and greasy, very unappetising. Should have gone to Carluccio in Sainsbury’s!

Came here today whilst with a friend shopping ....queue was ridiculous with only one service till open ......20 mins later we still hadnt moved much ...Why do you open if you dont have the tills operating? On both sides. You have staff serving on the till behind a screen and wearing visors yet waiting staff merrily skipping round with no mask or anything? Really not good organisation. Even customers are asking why only 1 staff member is making coffee and taking money by the way in total it took 30mins!!! Just to get to the station for coffee. I wouldnt bother opening g if you can not cope with the demand.

Went here while shopping with my daughter and grandkids. I asked for two strawberry milkshakes. They said there’s no strawberry so I asked for chocolate. They said no chocolate. Then the lady said let me check. She then went off somewhere leaving a big queue. She came back with who looked like the chef. He said look at the menu we don’t do milkshakes. We ordered the crispy chicken burgers. I then asked the lady to check that I hadn’t been charged for the milk shake and I had. When the food arrived it was inedible. I would never go there again. We decided ti visit M&S today and arrived at lunchtime. The cafe upstairs was not busy and there were lots of tables,but this is not the first time we have noticed lack of staff in this area.Today again many tables had not been cleared and were piled up with the all the dirty plates and cups, But worse than that when they were cleared the tables were not wiped down ready for the next customer. I saw a couple sit at a table with their fresh cups of tea not noticing the table was covered in crumbs. As we were leaving I asked the lady clearing some trays why the tables were not washed especially now we have a dangerous virus around. The answer was they were too busy !!. This is not really an excuse. Hygeine should be highest on their agenda. Next time I will have to take an antibacterial spray because we certainly dont want to catch anything from their dirty tables.

I appreciate 11am on a Saturday is probably not the the time for a quick coffee and I expected there might be a few people in front of me with the same intention, BUT I dont expect to stand for 20mins for a coffee with only four people ahead of me.. If any of the High St coffee shops were as slow as M&S, they would be out of business. Its not the staff - its the equipment. The poor barista's were working at maximum output but the machines are woefully slow. Please Marks & Spencer, get some technical advice from Costa, Starbucks, Nero...Anyone! For goodness sake, sort out the machines!

We decided to have coffee here when we finished shopping at Marks I wish we never bothered. The coffee was stone cold and the cheese toastie sat so long picking for a server to pick them up. The server looked as though he was walking about in a trance. When we complained that our toasties had been waiting a long time and were now probably cold he replied no their still hot. They were look warm. We paid £17.00 for cold coffee and Luke warm toasties. Never again. I will never be back. Avoid at all costs

The cashier got our order wrong (wrong pizza, there’s only a choice of 2!) but it was too busy to even think about complaining and wait for it to be sorted. I took my parents here today for breakfast as a treat but was very disappointed. We arrived first thing to find the cafe filthy dirty, it definitely had not been swept or mopped, there was food all over the floor. I asked to speak to the manager who arrived 20 mins later!!! With a half hearted explanation about the contract cleaners being short staffed. I work in a very busy cafe and we sweep and mop ourselves every evening and would never dream of letting customers find the cafe in that state!!! The coffee and food were also terrible. The toast was so hard it was inedible and bacon was like leather - clearly had precooked and warmed up. The coffee was like instant coffee with bubble bath on the top!!! The manager did not ask how our breakfast was and didn’t really apologise!! He sent over another a member of staff to sweep up the floor off the floor under one table - not all the others!!! For a big store like M&S; I really expect better standards!!! I only hope their kitchen was cleaner!!!! I won’t be going back.......

Visited today had the all day breakfast one vegetarian 1 full English complete rubbish stale toast thick scrambled eggs that were completely stuck together like a giant blob of glue and tomatoes that were overcooked - mushrooms that were like little bits of wet rubber - the full English was inedible way overcooked and obviously been hanging around all day - We chose this as our main meal as it was 5pm - if a cooked breakfast is on the menu as all day it should be all day fresh - we were served poor stale plates of food not a fresh breakfast but we still had to pay the full price - waste of money

It's ok bit like eating in a train station not much personal or cosy about it - all crammed up together and a struggle getting to the table - difficult for any elderly person how are they supposed to carry a tray - long wait and a silly way of serving why don't they just take an order at your table and bring you the food would save all that hanging about and crowds and to be honest it really is not cheap so a bit of table service might be nice - tables too small so once you put the tray down and unload it - you have to prop the tray up at the side or take it back which as I say is ok if you are fit but not everyone is - as I say it feels like you just have to get the job done have your food or drink and move on so the other waiting customers can have your seat

The original restaurant at the M&S; megastore at London Colney has been turned into a cafe, so that there are now two cafes, one on the ground floor and another similar one in the first floor. Both are big spaces with plenty of seating, but must get very busy at peak shopping times. I only had a cappuccino, which was ok with plenty of creamy froth but a rather insipid coffee underneath. Service was quick and efficient, but the store was very quiet at the time. So nothing special, just an ordinary cafe facility.

Went for breakfast at M&S; ground floor bistro restaurant. It has been shutdown and replaced with an untidy Christmas food section. So tried another upstairs option. Plenty of staff but all chattering and long line. My sausage sandwich was revolting and the Cranberry juice that I couldn’t drink had a one day sell by date window. If things a bad at M&S; they will get a whole lot worse it they don’t get some better food standards. Disgusting.

Went shopping at London Colney yesterday and thought I would treat me and the wife to the Christmas Lunch in Marks and Spencer restaurant. Bad decision. Queued for 15 minutes to get served as only one till was working. Waited a further 20 minutes before the food arrived. Sadly it was only luke warm and really quite bland. £ 17.00 for two basics meals without dessert or drink is not good.

Stopped in for Brunch with my Mum whilst Sunday shopping. Both ordered the Eggs Royale. Both came out with split hollondaise sauce, hard poached eggs and soggy muffins. Mum had to send hers back whilst mine was edible - just. Her replacement toast is meant to come with butter and jam or marmalade - only the butter made an appearance! And good luck catching a servers eye! When you do they are disinterested and don’t seem to have a clue how food service is done.

A real shame to state that this was a poor visit. There are not enough staff and I feel that although they are trying, they are facing an uphill battle and the management is flawed. Too long a wait to be served. Food rushed and simply heated up in a microwave. Not what you’d expect from M&S;.

It always surprises me that this store fields such poor service at the pay point. It is never properly staffed, there appears to be no system and the staff keep disappearing off to get more cups/saucers etc. The food is good when it comes but by that time you've lost all the good will. M&S; should sort this out and put a manager in. It's enough to choose John Lewis over m&s; when planning a shipping trip

We have been disappointed by the staff in the ground floor cafe before but today 'took the biscuit'. Not sure why M&S; tolerate staff who chat to each other rather than serving waiting customers at the pay point. Even less impressed by clearing team - who all ignored the biscuit on the floor by their tray clearing station throughout our stay. One lady wandered round pushing empty chairs into the tables but failed to wipe any tables.... No attention to what is required, unobservent and very disappointing. The cafe was unloved and grubby - dirty mops visible on a messy floor behind the scenes too.

Visited with friends on our way home and were greeted by empty shelves and most of the meals we asked for were unavailable! There were lots of available tables but none of them were being cleared or cleaned, so we cleared one ourselves. One of our group ordered a salad without potatoes and guess what ... the salad arrived with potatoes, I went to get some cutlery but there were no forks, I asked one of the servers and he brought out just one fork rather than fill up the holder! The wifi is intermittent and the service slow, all in all a really poor show from M&S;!

We visited for my Mothers Birthday Lunch. We shared a wonderful Ploughmans Platter which was superb and my daughter had a tasty toasted Club Sandwich. I asked our waiter, Jack, if we could possibly have some coleslaw with a little bit of rocket. Within a couple of minutes Jack brought both to us. He was extremely polite, charming and friendly and really made a fuss of my mother. He made her day! I left him a tip as he was such an ambassador for the Deli Bar but he informed me that he was unable to accept a tip and could he put the money in the Macmillan charity box. What a lovely boy!

If you are 65 and have just received your pension money then this is the place for you ! You will find lots and lots and lots of people here your age who have nothing better to do with there day so no better place to sit than the M&S cafe.Food and service is poor for the price you are paying and the cafe seems to be more of a elderly home than a middle class cafe.I shall only be returning here with my grandma and her zimmer frame.

I love marks and spencer and always enjoy a coffee in the cafe but my one bug bare is how extremly slow the service is at the tills, and most times only one side of the cash desks open. It takes so long to make the coffee and perhaps more people serving is needed.That said i wont stop going because despite the slowness its still a lovely cafe.

I find the coffee to be best at the deli on the ground floor. The seating is on high bar stools and the food is good but not particularly cheap-probably average in price for a deli / cafe. Service was good. Quite quiet on a Monday morning

Good food, but poor service and 'troubled' staff. The food is usual spec but the staff seem over worked and over burdened when all they are trying to achieve is to get food on the table. tried top and bottom and the bottom is lovely service but expensive coffee you only have the one! this is not a good day out as it is in the middle of a shopping area and a huge unflattering car park so don't bother as there are plenty of places near the area. Disappointed? No actually as the food is always above average so this might appear a little judgemental but then I set this place against the standards found elsewhere. Average is the score with the caveat that the food is good!

This is somewhat confusing as at this M&S there is a cafe, Deli cafe and restaurant so not sure which one I'm supposed to be reviewing!! I often meet a friend here, as it sits on the M25 it's convenient. We go to the self service cafe which generally is ok, although sometimes I have to take the coffee's back as they are like milk or nearly cold. I used to go to the deli if I was on my own, it was good and they had (maybe still have) newspapers, but service became bad (the nice, good staff seemed to leave) and they stopped doing two size of cappuccinos and only did a small one, also service became slow and not good. Although in fairness the food was good. i haven't been in the upstairs restaurant for a long time as service was slow and not good and I was served by a waiter with a bandaged hand and I wondered how he managed to wash his hands, especially after going to the toilet! so I never went back.

We visited this restaurant and we were impressed. It was clean with no dirty trays left on any of the vacant tables. The seat arrangement was well spaced out which is very good because I am in a wheelchair and always frightened of bumping into someone and spilling their drink. The coffee was delicious and a generous cup was served. The staff were excellent and even bought the coffee over to our table as my father was getting me a glass of water to quench my thirst, so the coffee did not get cold. Well done Marks and Sparks!

I was so disappointed with both the cafe and deli bar on our visit 2 weeks ago. My partner is a Coeliac and there is nothing on the deli bar menu that he can eat which surprised me as M&S does have gluten free products.We then decided to go to the ground floor cafe but the floor was covered with food and uncleared tables, they had also run out of the food we ordered.We then visited the upstairs cafe last week and yet again the floor was covered in food and had run out of the food we ordered.We won't be returning. Very disappointing for M&S, standards are slipping.

Having eaten at this Deli a long while ago and enjoyed the platters, we recently decided whilst shopping, to try a quick lunch there again. We ordered two small cold platters and waited some 40 minutes without being served. We asked if our meals had been overlooked and the reply was that they would be coming, but the waitress did not check. Another 15 minutes and it became obvious that new diners were being served their orders. Another waitress asked if something was wrong and this time checked with the kitchen to find our order had indeed been overlooked. Another 5 minutes and we eventually got our platters, which in the event were rather uninspiring. Very disappointing - we would have expected better from M&S.

M&S has three eating places: M&S Café (downstairs, self-service), M&S Café (upstairs, table-service, formally “The Restaurant”) and the Deli. The downstairs café, in the middle of the store by the windows; the upstairs café is at the left hand end of the building and the Deli which is by the stairs to the upstairs cafe. On this (and many previous occasions) I visited the Deli.The Deli opens earlier than the restaurant and is a nice light, airy, space with half of the seating around the central serving area (originally this was all of the seating, but recently additional seating has been added around the edges of the room) – a glass wall separates the deli from the carpark. There is a selection of newspapers to borrow. All seating is on stools (so not suitable for very young, or restless, children).My Eggs Benedict was very nice (although my first egg was no so warm – as if eggs had been cooked after each other, rather than at the same time). The eggs were tasty and definitely free range. Coffee was niceWill definitely visit again.

I understand December is busy but this does not excuse dirty, tea stained chipped crockery. I had 2 cups precious to the one I ended up with.You have plenty of staff standing around discussing how many shifts left till Christmas but can't manage the basics to serve your sandwiches and tea on.I'm glad I didn't have hot food as several people complained at waiting too long for a toasted sandwich.

Fantastic store with great staff and a clean environment. We didn't eat in the deli bar but enjoyed a much needed coffee upstairs in the cafe. Quick service, polite and friendly, the atmosphere was calming and spacious. This was my first visit to this store and I look forward to my return visit.

This is a review of the ground floor cafe at M&S. The cafe has a good range of cakes and snacks. Service was quite fast given that it was so busy. Even the small coffee was pretty large and good that they have decaf tea. Enjoyed the Eccles cake!

Stopped for lunch with my mother expecting an enjoyable lunch as usual! Since our last visit the menu has changed and now has very limited choice, and prices have gone up. There is very little to entice people to this Deli Bar and we now feel we may as well just go into the Cafe for a toasted sandwich.The whole atmosphere has changed and although the staff were trying hard, the place was half empty with most diners all complaining about the new menu!Seems a very strange decision to have taken as over the past few years we have always struggled to get a seat, but been happy to wait as the food has been so good!

After glancing in the cafe (restaurant) we decided to give it a miss and try the Deli Bar downstairs – our first visit here. I do not know where the staff’s heads are but it is not on their job as they seemed totally unaware of customers coming and going. After waiting nearly 15 minutes we managed to attract someone’s attention. They came back about five minutes later and took our order. Another lengthy wait ensued before our order arrived. The quality was very good but the portions very small. You expect M&S food to be somewhat dearer than normal but the small portions made it very expensive. Another example of their pricing is that my bottle of beer was £4-50 and I can buy three bottles of the same in many supermarkets for £5! Paying was even more difficult than ordering and two people we asked for the bill said they would get it and subsequently disappeared! When we finally paid a quick snack had taken well over an hour.M&S need to train their staff better as it created a very negative experience! We will not be eating here again any time soon!

If we hadn't waited so long for our drinks and then for the food, it would have been farcical. There were 4 people on duty on a pretty busy day, but unfortunately they had no idea of customer service. One guy was obviously responsible for clearing up and he did, one or two glasses at a time, disappearing for long periods in between, oblivious to the stacks of empty plates etc, and oblivious to the customers trying to get some attention. I could go on all day but I won't. Marks and Spencer please get these people trained, there is a complete lack of leadership and cohesion. On the plus side my seafood platter was good but my husband's steak and chips was horrid.

On arrival only one lady on the till and a queue. Should have realised then that it was going to be slow. After waiting 35mins plus for a toasted bagel should have gone elsewhere.Dirty tables, long wait, poor service, no staff.Coffees were nice!!Eventually found the manager who refunded the cost of everything as it was not as it should have been.
