Marks and Spencer Cafe in Cardiff

Hounded by the Indian security guard when I was looking for a birthday cake for my daughter. Won’t be coming back.

M&S security assian men staring at me and following after,must be something not right with them.

Marks and Spencer’s, why have you decided it’s a good idea to have bras in one area and knickers in another. Once I had chosen the bras I wanted I could not find matching pants yet again. You used to be my go to shop for underwear, not now, your loss is Bravissimo’s gain! This change really is not customer facing.

Large variety of food and non food good quality not as expensive as you imagine

Lots of free tables but none were cleared or clean. 30 queuing with their trays as the service at the checkout/coffee was very, very slow. Coffee isn’t great. All in all, very poor.

Big supermarket, fruits, pastries, pricing is reasonable..Love this store

Nice place to shop always clean

A fairly large M&S store offering women's, men's and children's clothing and shoes, a homewares section, cafe and a large foodhall. The shop is usually very clean and well organised. The staff are mostly very friendly and helpful. The clothes are usually well made and of good quality. They are also fairly reasonably priced and even better value during the sales. The foodhall here offers a wide variety of products and everyday items, including a section selling meal deals and quick lunches. The cafe here is very popular and can get very busy at times, particularly around lunchtime.

M&S Queen St, is a decent place to shop with good stock availability and variety, from clothes and food products. Their food hall & restaurant are amazing and highly recommended. There's toilets available near the restaurant which are often clean. A company negative point, their clothes are of high quality materials but the designs of their men's & women's clothes are not really for the younger generation, maybe this is something they could look into.

I am constantly targeted by m&s ads on Instagram & there are lovely fashionable desirable things on offer , all of which are out of stock online but instore its impossible to find any of them bring in merchandisers with vision like the online people. Would love to spend here.

I was drawn to the advertisement for their coffee but when mine came I thought it was a joke. Look at the state of it. Nothing like what was advertised. Should have gone to a proper coffee shop. Not only does coffee have to taste the part, it should look the part for our full enjoyment. Very disappointed.

I got so stressed on my latest visit as there are now only self serve tills and I didn't know how to use the voucher I had. it took at least ten minutes for a member of staff to come and help. There were not enough staff to help. I will not be buying any more clothes at your store.

First and last time for me. Poor and slow service and poor value the drinking chocolate was weak and had a poor taste, Most disappointed. Staff need to be better trained in customer awareness it would also help if they looked interested in the task in hand.

Very large Marks & Spencer store, conveniently in the centre of Cardiff, plenty of choice plus concessions. a large section of high quality food. great selection of dates. A hot drinks corner has recently been added inside the supermarket , which is an important addition if you are in a hurry. I highly recommend.

Who doesn't love this place!! Went in for some Christmas gifts. Visited The Food Hall for their Turkish Delight, Christmas Cake & Shortbread.

Went to buy sequin trousers at Queen Street last week and the size I wanted was not on the rack. Hayley at the store was brilliant - she went above and beyond to find the size I required. She is an amazing asset to the store. Well done Hayley you are a true star. Thank you again 😊

A very Plesant experience, toilets are very clean and well maintained and warm. Not a huge range of products in the home section however but a very lovely store to visit

Great place to shop.My last experience of a bra fitting a few years ago was great. The staff were lovely and took time to.make sure I got the perfect fit and the perfect bras. Can't wait to go back now.

Visited numerous times over the last few weeks but won't be visiting again! Have watched each time tables being cleared of dirty dishes but not actually cleaning the table! All the tables I could see were dirty and sticky with food crumbs and sticky residues! Shameful! Basic hygiene! I cleaned my own table and watched a woman collect spray and cloth to clean her table! Where is the managerial supervision and also pride in the job? Nothing worse than sitting down at a mucky table ugh!!!

C'mon guys, surely you're not that desperate to go here? There are so many really good coffee shops in town, you have to be desperate to go here. I was, and regretted it always

We decided to have a cup of tea here, we also had the oak smoked bacon ciabatta roll, the bacon was nice but the roll was a bit hard, asked if we wanted any sauces, we asked for brown sauce, only to be told there wasn’t any, the cup was chipped & the milk jug was as well. Will eat here again.

The only reason it is not a single star, is that the food hall has a decent selection of food. We were there before and during COVID-19. In March, while the Cafe was still open, we wished that we hadn't bothered with it. Very poor food and massively overpriced. The shopping experience now during COVID-19 is awful. Really poor. They force you to enter through the main store, even though only the food hall should be open. In the food hall, there are no floor markings and no attempt to direct customers in a single/one-way system. There are far too much staff, who appear to be busy chatting with eachother with no attempt to keep social distancing. To add insult to injury, a member of staff made it clear to us in no uncertain terms, how annoyed he was to serve us at the check out desk and that we should have used the self-service tills. NEVER AGAIN

So disappointed 4 triangle sandwiches soggy and a bit stale. 2 plain scones with jam and cream not the freshest.and 2 pots if tea. Wernt asked what sandwiches we wanted and I didn't like 2 of the ones brought. Wont recommend.

M&S....Mucky & Smelly! Myself & My Husband called into the Cafe for a cold drink. First unfortunate thing was that the refrigerators weren’t working. Then I found a lack of choice. I asked if they did ice so I could cool down my drink & I was directed over to a self serve ice bucket which on opening appeared to have just melted ice cubes in that wasn’t worth trying to pick out. There was four tills & only one till in service so the que was quite slow. My Husbands cloudy Lemonade was the worst we’ve ever tasted! My Husband couldn’t drink this in the end. In fact it was awful! On leaving the cafe we popped into the toilets. A smell hit you of uncleanliness as soon as you went through the first door. The toilets were dirty & the hand dryers where filthy. After drying my hands I just wanted to wash them again. Disgusting I thought. I won’t be visiting there again anytime soon. It wasn’t a peasant experience. I think as it’s 2019 M&S you need to step up to the many competitors you have around you! I expected more from such a store!

What an unfriendly place. I met my mother, who works at the shop for lunch. It was awful. My mother has told me things about what goes on and the food is not fit for human consumption.

Visited for lunch with 5 friends. We chose what we wanted, but the drinks took so long we nearly left. Our table was extremely squashed in, so it wasn't a pleasant experience.

The whole shop was scruffy and dirty looking. I paid a visit to the toilet and was disgusted! Utter filth! There was not one toilet that I was happy to go into. Not what you expect from a company with such a good reputation.

Cold poached eggs, dry bacon, soggy mushrooms tiny portion for the price! Wish I’d read other reviews before coming- you would think a major company like Marks and Spencer could be relied upon to serve excellent produce well. How wrong could I be? I’d recommend you give it a wide berth!

Went into cafe for a drink first impressions by that good went to get seat and table while other went to order tables very close together lots not cleared tops left dirty had to clear table top and chair floors first-hand scruffy had a filter coffee tasted like chicory even with loads sugar in could not drink told staff about it did not seam bothered no wonder they are going back if this is the service they offer across the company.

I stopped for afternoon tea to celebrate a special occasion with my daughter. It's usually fabulous, but today was left wanting. The sandwiches were dry and stale on one side, and as this is our favourite bit, it was spoiled for us. The rest of the meal was of its usual high standard. The staff were all so busy that we didn't complain or take it back. I can only score M and S a 3 on this occasion. Very disappointing.

I had a cappuccino here and the coffee was surprisingly good. The cafe is a bit cramped but there is plenty of seating and there is a nice view over Queen Street by the window.

Long que which was expected for a Sat afternoon in Nov. While in the que I asked a member of staff about a meal due to allergy no one came back to me with answer. Qued about 15 mins when at till I asked again to be told it did contain ingredient we didn't want so had to ask my mother what else she wanted which is why I asked while in que to save time. I ordered 2 all day breakfast around £8 each which looked good on photo, when it arrived half hour later we were very disappointed the tomato was tiny, eggs were tiny, bacon was hard and so was toast! Def not worth the money or the wasted time. 2 star for being able to find clean table straight away. Not good at all.

Normally we go here for coffee but today we stopped for a quick bite at lunch time. My wife had Cumberland sausage bun and I had the bacon one. The buns were warm and the fillings tasty.

Visited today with my mother, cousin and son, my son is autistic and won't eat his food hot so the woman on the till had to call her manager to ask if it was ok to serve the child's meal cold, which was fine and he was a very nice man and sorted it out for us, our jacket potatoes were lovely however my mum asked for extra butter with hers as she found it a little dry, my cousin and I were happy with ours and my mum usually likes a bit more butter in it. Mums coffee was ok and we had diet cokes in glass bottles and my son had a Percy pig carton which he loved. Service at the tills was a bit slow but food was served in good time. Would visit again

We went here after shopping in Cardiff. The staff seemed uninterested and under pressure. The food turned out to be average and overpriced and wife had to send her macaroni cheese back as it was overcooked. We mentioned it to the manager but he was...

I went in here the first time to have a look at something that I wanted to buy and i did buy a pair of shoes from therei went back in there later that day to look at the shoes again and i asked a question at the counter nearest to where the shoes are and a woman there with blond or grey hair said to me " you have already been in here once"I never commented back but i thought so what i can come in here as many times as i wantShould staff members be saying things like this to customers because it can put them off buying and it's a bit intimidating to unless she knows something i don't knowgo in here a few times and see if the staff say anything to you if you dare

This cafe provides very nice food although the price for this is pretty steep- 2 of us had sandwiches (2 slices of bread) for £4 x 2, a slice of Victoria sponge (£3 each) a pack of crisps each and a bottle of coke and water - £19 all in. Quality is good but tables are tight and all in all it's a bit expensive for what it is

I normally go there for quick food and hot cup of tea. They used to serve good amount of tea and tasty food. Since the Christmas time I have noticed that they serve less amount of tea and the quality of the tea bag is not as good as it used to be. Such a shame!! The staff appears stressed all the time and the conversation they are having in front of customers sounds as if they are frustrated. There are more tables added and more frustration amongst staff. Whats going on ?

We dined here on New Years Eve & whilst we couldn't fault the food the service was disgusting. I spoke to the Manager explaining how we were constantly given the wrong food, how the waiters stretched across diners to put plates down practically touching our faces & how long we were waiting between courses. He shrugged his shoulders said they were short staffed. No apology. We returned last night simply because we had travel zoo vouchers which had been purchased prior to our poor experience on New Year. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived so we expected good service. How wrong the presseco was warm, the wrong beer was sent to the table. Again the food was fine but the wait between courses was as bad as New Year. My husband spoke to the Manager he did not answer him we left never to return again. Really really disappointed

The food is great and the staff are polite. Probably the same in every M&S Cafe but when I go there, mostly on Saturday, they seem to be short on staff and the tables are not cleaned. When I asked for the table to be cleaned they wipe it with a piece of kitchen roll. So basically dusting it. Also there is a lack of option for gluten free products.

This is our favourite place to stop and recharge our batteries during a shopping trip. The staff are always lovely, a friendly bunch of dedicated workers, who know how to please. Over the festive period, we have taken afternoon tea on several occasions. The sandwiches are freshly made, the pastries mouthwatering. Afternoon Tea is beautifully presented and the quality is brilliant for the price. We have never been disappointed, so much so, that I felt compelled to write to head office and congratulate them. Well done M & S Queen Street, time you had a little more praises, keep up the good work!☕️

Ok, so you might feel you are in a nursing home for an hour, but there is no doubt M&S does a great afternoon tea. Prices are reasonable and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. . Just don't forget to take your gran!

Went to this cafe with a friend today on Christmas shopping trip from Bristol, I have recently aquired a sparks card & chose their offer for afternoon cream tea for two for £6.00, when we got to the till the girl didnt have a clue what she was doing & said all they had was scones. The scones were very stale, and I asked if there was any cake and she said no despite there was plenty of cake under domed cake containers, also no sandwiches available which was supposed to be in the deal too. All I can say is the service was shoddy and that it was a good job that I didnt have to pay the full price of £10-11 or more!! Unfortunately wont be visiting again!!

This is ok for a quick Cuppa , but is quite expensive to eat at I think we paid £6.50 for a tea coffee and one toasty betwin us would not recommend for hot meals

Did a bit of shopping and then had a light lunch of tomato and basil soup. It was full of flavour and came with a roll and butter. Also had a large hot chocolate. Spacious food hall. Worth every penny.

I come here regually because my nan lives close by and she enjoys being able to go across to m&s for her weekly shop. We eat here probably once a month, and (im not one to write reviews) but god, the waiting staff...I dont even know how they got past an interview! It seems 1/5 of them ever smile, they never say hi, thank you or enjoy your meal, and we are always polite and smiley. I'm vegan and they rarely have any soya for a coffee (even though the food hall is about 100 m away), and never seem to have much food in stock. Its a shame as we love m&s, but it seems everytime we come there are multiple thing that let it down.

M&S Cafes can vary wildly in standard. I like this one though. Pretty slow service but the selection and seating make it worth it. Lots of natural light and good standard of cleanliness. I wouldn't come here over an independent coffee shop, but I definitely don't think it's a bad choice if you want to come here. It's a good pit-stop.

I visited here with a family member. The food was good (we ordered two soya lattes and a scone). The service was poor especially in comparison to other coffee shops/other M&S cafe's I have visited in the past. There were tables which were not emptied the whole time we were in the café (we were there for at least 30 minutes) and there were staff just walking around and some chatting about what they had done over the weekendI would understand if the place was really busy however there was no one served immediately after us and the flow of customers should be easily managed within a café this size and especially considering the amount of staff that works at the café. A staff member noticed that we were sitting at a table which was already full of dirty dishes. Instead of picking up the tray full of used crockery he took away the bowl of sauces and then just walked around for the rest of the time that we were there! I noticed that a few of the tables weren't cleared very quickly/if at all while we were there.I also think the small pots of jam sold by M&S at their cafes are expensive at 60p a pot. It is also frustrating that M& S cafe's have now replaced the sunflower spread with margarine. I am unsure if I would call here again as I would hate to see what their service is like when the store is extremely busy. I have given an average rating as the food has redeemed the establishment somewhat. The customer service would receive a poor rating from me.

Lots of staff but slow service. Staff appear to be getting in each others' way and causing service to be very long winded. Polite and cheerful but no urgency in what they are doing. Tea and coffee fresh and well-presented in clean crockery.

This is such a pleasant store and the FOOD HALL is just great. After taking day trips to the countryside on our vacation in Swindon, we often stopped at this food hall for picnic items and snacks rather than go to a restaurant.The selection is wonderful and beautifully displayed. The prices seemed very reasonable (at home here in NY I would be paying a lot more).

The service was great, fast and efficient compared to my nearest M&S cafe in both Hayle and Truro - lots of places to get your coffee and it was hot and delicious - obviously a well managed M&S cafe

I went to Marks and Spencer's Café for a coffee, needing to breastfeed my newborn baby. At the till the very kind assistant called for someone to help me carry my coffee as she could see that I had a pram to push even though I hadn't asked for help. The manager, Greg, came to help and when I asked if I was ok to breastfeed went out of his way to help me find a suitable seat and insisted on my comfort. His kindness made it an absolute pleasure to stop and feed. The coffee was lovely, came with a very tasty little biscuit and I can vouch for the food from previous experience. Well worth a mid shop stop.

Went at 6pm for dinner. They had a notice saying any platter with a glass of presecco £10. We ordered 2 & told the offer finished at 5pm. We stayed & had the platters the bread served was ordinary white not the usual mix of Mediterranean breads. Floor was filthy they seemed totally uninterested in the customers. Won't go back

We visited the M & S cafe this afternoon and were disgusted. I stood in a queue for 20 minutes all because there was an offer of a free cake with a hot drink for sparks card holders. This sounded a good offer until there wa a problem with every customer in front of me trying to take advantage of the offer. "Sorry, you can't have that cake.....it has to be one from the table!" And when asked what the gluten free option was....." No you can't have one of the gluten free cakes as it won't go through the till!" These are just some of the comments I and other customers around me heard. The cashier was clearly either new or incompetent and had no idea how to deal with any query whatsoever. When eventually it was my turn to be served my sparks card wouldn't work for the free cake as I hadn't activated the offer!! This is NOT what I expect from M & S and I will definitely not be returning especially when there's an offer on. John Lewis will be getting my custom next time. M & S really do need to look at this sparks card as me and people in the queue were complaining how complicated it is. My partner has thrown his card away! Just to add insult to injury, the dishwasher had apparently broken so we had to have paper cups.......

Lovely place, have been many times but in May it's the last time. My husband had a voucher for 'tea for two' for his birthday. Now I must make it clear here - the birthday treat voucher entitles you to a pot of tea (which can be changed for coffee/herbal tea) two scones and 4 small sandwiches. (1 sandwich cut into 4) to share between two people. Normal tea for two contains - pot of tea, two scones, 8 small sandwiches (two sandwiches cut into 4), and a selection of fancy cakes/tarts, usually 6.We invited our friends to join us for high tea. I gave my husband's voucher and asked for another high tea for two (this way we would share the sandwiches and treats between us 4, considering our friends are diabetic and couldn't eat too much of those treats).We received my order per as the voucher states we could have. My friends received the same but with just one scone. I pointed out to our server that I had ordered and PAID for normal tea for two. They insisted I had just ordered an extra one - then why were they oven two cups for a pot of tea if I only asked for one? - another scone was issued with an apology. I asked about the sandwiches and the treats - showed them the receipt that I had paid in full for a normal tea! - sweet treats were then given but no sandwiches that I paid for! The server seemed clueless about what I had actually ordered, what I was expecting and what they should have included.It may have been an oversight but it was embarrassing having to explain over and over what I had paid for and what should be included!

Just an update on my previous review.The cafe area has now increased using the space that originally was used for greeting cards which has been relocated.There's no change in my opinion of the quality of food and the staff. Irrespective of adverse comments I do prefer the view of Queen street as my first choice of seating.Negative point.M&S. I do not like the change from the cafe Coffee loyalty card to the their "sparks card" No free coffee with this card only collect the points. Any sparks rewards offers are time specific and run out. I'm certainly not going to travel a round trip of 44 miles just to get a "Cafe Offer". To me this is a disloyalty card !!

The staff here were really friendly and the coffee was nice, shame about the sofas with badly worn upholstery.

The cafe at M&S used to have a reputation for nice breakfast. It has gone down hill a bit I think. The staff were pushed at busy times with tables taking time to be cleared so things started piling up. Maybe this is a sign of popularity ...but!!

Marks and Spencer café is a great and convenient place to stop for lunch when you're shopping in Cardiff. It is always immaculately clean, tidy, and there is plenty of room, nearly always seats available even when there are large cues on Saturdays. Food is always nice, especially sandwiches and cakes. Tea and coffee available. Staff are normally friendly and happy. You may have to wait a while in the cue for the till, (it is a self service café), but that does mean that you can eat as soon as you sit down. There is a nice section of the café which is like a balcony, with big glass walls, with views of Cardiff shoppers on Queen Street.

Always loved going to M&S Cafes / Restaurants because I just love the Caesar Salad. Imagine how disappointed I am to find they no longer do it. Why? Why? Why?

Great view and good location (middle of queen street). Basic afternoon tea in reasonable price with no need to make reservation.

Afternoon tea with my mum and daughter. Small quarter sized sandwiches of Egg Mayo, Ham and cheese, Beef and Horseradish and Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese. Choice of plain or Fruit scone, with an individual pot of Jam and Clotted Cream, a Bite sized Macaroon, Cupcake and Tartlet, and choice of Tea or Coffee. All were served quickly and were lovely and fresh. £6.95 for one person or £12.95 for two people. Good value if you like afternoon teas. Negative point is that you are made to queue outside the cafe until they show you to a table, when there are blatantly empty tables free.

My Husband and I visited the Cardiff M&S cafe at Leckworth Yesterday afternoon at 2.45pm, where it wasn't exactly busy, however there was a constant queue at the till where there were two young members of staff serving a girl taking orders a lad making the hot drinks. There was absolutely no communication with these two between them and the customer, they didn't appear to be training as there was no supervision taking place. My toasted sandwich was put to one side by the till with no explanation as to what was happening!! all the time the queue was getting longer but the cafe wasn't even full. We took a seat where we found the tables to be dirty!!There was no relaxed atmosphere, we left feeling that it was a very disorganised dirty cafe which was very poorly run.May I add that I am not in the habit of complaining and have never put any comments on trip advisor before, but feel strongly about the experience we had on this occasion.M&S you need to step it up!!

Terrible service . Terrible coffee which we waited ages to be served. We tried to attract the staff but they were too busy chatting. Haven't returned since , and will not in the future.Sorry to be so critical .

Staying in Cardiff overnight for shopping we visited here for Brunch, a nice clean self-service restaurant on the upper floor. We chose Mozzarella & Mushroom Toastie, Turkey Cranbury & Bacon Toastie and Victoria Sponge cake together with a Latte and Gold blend tea.The toasties were very tasty and looking around we could see this was a customer’s favourite.The 3 layer Victoria sponge was very nice but a little too rich for our taste.Yes there were queues, but it was close to Christmas and its popular, and we are Brits and used to queueing :)

We have used this cafe on numerous occasions throughout the year but recently we have decided to go elsewhere as each time it has taken ages to get served.The problem is that often there is only on person on both the till and doing the drinks and the queue's build up.Great coffee and food when you are served and great staff but we use another coffee shop now

Lovely cafe for a cuppa during a spot of retail therapy. Good choice of snacks...always busy and sometimes a queue at the tills. Nice view of Queen St from the window tables

Pleasant ambience, sitting by the first floor window, enjoying the view of pedestrians and the buzz at Queen Street. Friendly cashier makes the overall experience worthwhile for an afternoon tea time.
