Excellent all round. Met some friends who were very impressed with the food. As a vegetarian I was pleased not to be offered risotto! The atmosphere was great, not noisy but enough people to give it a good buzz.Staff were on the ball and very proffessional from the moment we walked in. Have booked again! It is not a cheap evening but worth every peny! Thank you!

A very nicely styled restaurant in the old Blue Anchor. Booking is I think essential as there aren't a huge number of covers but there are enough to give a lovely 'buzz'. The service is exemplary - not too pushy (but please don't keep coming to top up the wine!). Wait times for food are spot on. We had the lobster soup and smoked fish board to start - both excellent. Hake and sole 'cordon bleu' to follow with a side of deliciously young, crisp buttery samphire. The wine list if fine although I would've liked to see a white with a little less acidity, (perhaps a Picpoul de Pinet or another white from Herault) but that's just my personal taste. A really lovely evening.

Great to visit Markg in its new home at the Old Blue Anchor. The place has been really well renovated and it is smart and stylish without being fussy. The menu is similar to previous incarnation at the Tramways with a focus on fish. We enjoyed the butter bean hummus and crackers snack which was plenty for two; the skate and the turbot were beautifully cooked, and our desserts of sour cherry cheesecake and Guinness chocolate cake were excellent. Only quibble was I didn't think the crispy seaweed worked with the turbot. Good to see Green Jack and Lacons beers too, both were very good. Staff were friendly and efficient too. Couldn't ask for more really, great to have Markg back and now on our side of town too.

Reading the reviews we expected better but if you leave fish too long waiting for the other dish it will overcook. Not very often we send food back but overcooked fish is a Nono.Very nice staff who dealt with the complaint well but it was too late night spoilt.Maybe we were unlucky. However just because you have a large party of 12+ don’t forget your tables of 2.

I've been to The Tramways the last 2 years for my birthday and it was great. This year I booked, saying that I was gluten free. We arrived very small and not very exciting menu only 5 of each course. I asked the waitress to check on what I could have that was gluten free she said no starter's and just one main course, I then spoke to the chef, I could have had the salmon also but they had run out of it (only serving 5 tables that evening) so I had the only main I was allowed to have a ribeye steak for a whopping £26, which turned out to be inedible as it was all fat no meat, a friend on the table also had the steak which was the same. We complained and didn't have to pay for those, so I hardly ate anything for my birthday meal. I was quite impressed they had a gluten free brownie on the dessert menu. But I was so disappointed by then I just wanted to leave. Don't bother not the same now Mark G has left.

Changed hands since last visit and a complete contrast. The menu is not a challenge and despite this the quality of food is average at best.I doubt I have ever experienced such surly or rude waiting staff.I have read the only other review since the change of management and can only conclude they were far from independent given the experience of our group. At the end of a distinctly forgettable meal (approx 2220 hrs) we were presented with the bill before we asked for it,we had intended to have another drink. When we mentioned this the man (assume the manager) stated that he just wanted to get cleared up and get home to bed.All in all an unpleasant experience and seemingly contrary to the vision expressed by the new owner when taking over from Mark G.We will not be returning for a repeat.

We took my dad here before the current lockdown. He lives in Lowestoft and we have visited for decades and have eaten pretty much across the region. This is our new firm favourite!! The food was outstanding and my dad described his Need Roast as the best Roast Dinner he's eaten in his whole life...he's 76! The popcorn cockles are brilliant and the portion is a really good size. I ordered the skate with brown shrimp/butter and it was delicious, the thickest piece of skate I've seen since the 1990's when fish were able to grow before being fished. It was a lovely experience, plenty of room and they are Covid-safe and diligent - thanks for a great visit, we will be back time and again.

An unassuming pub on the outskirts of Lowestoft has a gem of a dining area within. Their speciality is seafood and they really know how to cook and deliver. We had tiger prawns and dressed crab as starters- both oozing aroma and taste. We followed this with sea bass and halibut both were cooked to perfection and dressed with tasty samphire. The wine choice was good and excellent value. Shame we were only visiting on holiday as I would be happy to make this a regular place to visit. Lucky all those who can

One of the starters on the special board had not been updated and was from the previous day but this was not a problem, Calamari was served with a smile. My apple and blue cheese salad was lovely, fresh and very tasty. Other starters included a black pudding scotch egg with runny yolk and white bait. All very nice. Our mains included Skate, Sea bass, Cauliflower and potato curry and the Surf and turf burger each and every one was excellent.I would certainly recommend this restaurant as they cater for all tastes and the food is faultless

My wife and I took a short break in Lowestoft and using TripAdvisor tried the #1 and #3 rated restaurant. These being an Indian and a Fish/Seafood specialist suited our tastes ideally. MarkG was rated #3 and we were not disappointed. Having booked for 8pm, we arrived slightly early and were shown to a table protected from the neighbouring table by a perspex screen. Service was fast, friendly and accurate. We ordered whitebait and bread and olives as two starters to share and both were excellent - the whitebait was cooked to perfection. For mains, my wife ordered North Sea Hale which came with patatas bravas and fresh green beans, and I ordered Skate which came with chips and a little samphire. Both were delicious. It was my first experience of Skate and I was a little apprehensive when I realised it was a bone in fin. However, the flesh slid off the bones really easily and had a lovely rich flavour. We were too full for deserts but finished the evening with a cup of tea.If you like fish - try MarkG

To be honest, the only reason we went here was because of the current scheme. Normally we would baulk at paying £24 for steak and chips but with the discount it was reasonable. My wife had the steak and said it was nice. I had the surf and turf burger which was pleasant but not out of this world. What I found odd was being asked to book our meals in advance over the phone and getting two bills, one for our non discounted drinks and another for our discounted food. They must have their reasons. The staff were courteous. I would return, if their prices were a bit more reasonable.

We’d never been to MarkGs before. We were greeted and told to go to the bar, where we can order our drinks and look at the menu “whilst we get the table ready”. This was fine, we went into the bar area and sat down for 10 mins, where we was then approached by an older waitress, who wanted to take our order in the bar. I said we hadn’t even been shown to our table yet, and she abruptly responded that they do this sometimes (bit strange). I've eaten in vegan restaurants in London, Birmingham and regular restaurants with Michelin stars, and can honestly say I've never come across better food than at the deli. Never before have I been motivated to write a review about a sandwich! Service is great, the woman who runs the deli is really friendly and on occasions where there has been nothing I've fancied, she's gone and made us something fresh to order. Also, the coffee is incredible. In addition, I'd like to add that there are a few 'vegan' places in Lowestoft, but it's refreshing to find one run by people have really have a deep understanding of what it's about and how to make vegan food interested.

Realising we were being given different information from one another we checked again and were reassured that we would be able to choose from 2 menus. This wasn't the case. The choices were limited. It was especially disappointing for those of us who love fish and who'd chosen this resaurant especially for its good fish reputation. The best fish dishes also involved meat and as the food had been prepared in advance we couldn't have those dishes without meat. This left batteted fish and chips but as we also avoid wheat and wanted something a bit diffetent we had to go with the only vegetarian option which was a mediocre nut roast. I have to say though it was nicely presented and the vegetables were nicely cooked and the meat eaters were satisfied with their meals.

We ere also dubious about it's branding, with 'bijou hotel rooms' available and puzzling insistence on forsaking pound signs and decimal points in the pricing (is that cool?) Anyway the vegan menu seemed appetising so we gave it a go for lunch, and what a nice experience it was. The interior has been well decorated in muted colours, good lighting and a mix of 'upcycled' chunky vintage furniture all spaced out well. It was warm inside on a cold day, a nice woodburner blazing in the cozybar, but we sat in the restaurant area and service was excellent. We both ordered from the vegan menu, the food came quickly and was hearty and delicious - devilled bean hotpot with crusty bread for me and a risotto for my partner. We managed to squeeze in desserts, my vegan waffle sundae was superb. The restaurant doesn't do many evening vegan meals but is largely a fish restaurant and another customer commented to me her fish meal was the best she'd ever had. The pricing is odd but good value for money. All in all a great time, also we stopped at the on-site deli to choose a few vegan items to take home. Don't be put off by the slightly pretentious marketing, it's a super place on the edge of town with lovely food and it has it's own car park so no problem there. We will return and we're spreading the word.

It takes nerve to turn an old pub in. It the best area and with a reputation into a foodie destination - but Markg and his partner have managed it with the old Lowestoft Tramway. As well as the restaurant which has an imaginative modern menu there is a vegan takeaway, regular vegan nights and sharing plates and nibbles in the pub itself. We shared tapas - gorgeously battered prawns and some proper whitebait - not the stuff encased in concrete crumbs and for mains we had pan fried sole which came with very good chips and my partner had the smoked haddock chowder. Both very fresh fish beautifully cooked. The stem ginger and lemon cheesecake for pudding was outstanding. If you have not beengo - there is a big car park

We were staying at the Tramways Hotel for a birthday party and noted that the food smelled lovely the evening we checked, in whilst enjoying our drinks in the bar. In the morning we were grateful to have taken it easy at the party as we were able to enjoy our breakfast, consisting of black pudding, eggs, butchers sausage and smoked bacon. All was excellent and my coffee was served in a cafetiere and we were given ice cold OJ to feed our bodies the vitamin C they craved. I will definitely visit again to try their evening menu.

We were so delighted to find such an excellent restaurant just a ten minute bike ride from where we live. The menu is varied and not too big - meaning fresh, chef cooked food. The presentation is beautiful and such good value, we count the days until we can visit again! The restaurant is elegant and comfortable and the staff attentive and friendly - nothing is too much trouble. They present the wine in a proper ice bucket which is a lovely touch these days. The wine is well priced too, we always have a bottle. Thank you Mark G - see you soon!

Great fish restaurant, very good food and friendly knowledgeable staff. We asked about the wines and received good information as to which would pair best with the turbot. Would recommend to anyone coming to Lowestoft.

Tried to 'phone to book a table but just kept getting an unobtainable tone. Decided not to bother trying the place but were driving past so decided to swing in. They were able to reserve me a table for 2 at 8.30, and the front of House service was super. From the minute we arrived until we left the service was friendly and professional. The food was absolutely excellent. If you've not tried this, then do - you'll not regret it. Portions are generous.....

We went here for a family lunch. One of our number is vegan. The choice of 3 separate menus was nicely bewildering, spoiled for choice. The 4 small plates for £20 were excellent value. Everything was freshly cooked and came beautifully presented. The fish platter was original and well executed. The sweet potato chips were hot and crispy. The fried mushrooms with dip were especially good. The desserts were very good with the exception of my carrot cake that was a bit odd and seemed to be impersonating some kind of sticky nutty pudding. The chocolate brownie with salted caramel ice cream was highly complimented with our daughter stating that it was the best that she had ever had!

Another exquisite meal at MarkGs. My son and I had the cockle popcorn, it was a first for me and it was beautifully cooked. I then had the prawns which I love, again it was scrumptious, my son had the scallops, all wonderfully cooked and presented. We both had lemon sole with a shrimp garnish for the main course and I had 3 scoops of ice cream for dessert whereas my son had sorbet, all very good. Great service. Mark G and his staff never fail to deliver top quality food.

We visited markg’s at the tramway tonight as a family of 14, after not being able to get in on the Saturday night as we left it too late they were very accommodating in squeezing us in tonight. The menu covered a wide range of tastes and the food was of an excellent standard, the service was also excellent. The only one thing that we could pick fault at was the lack of high chairs being with 2 babies and changing facilities however that didn’t hinder our 5 star review! Great place and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area

When we arrive in Kessingland at 7.30 we rang round to find a good dog-friendly place to have dinner for four of us and the earliest booking Markg (Tramway Hotel)could give us outside in the courtyard was at 9pm. But since the Trip Advisor listing of this pub/restaurant had the wrong postcode, we were late finding the place and late for our booking!

A little flippant for a title I know but the whole evening and the food so great it made me feel a little frivolous! Great place, lovely friendly and knowledgeable staff and above all amazing food. We shared our starters of prawns and Vietnamese noodle with crab cakes...delicious. My husband had the lemon sole with scallops which he said was very good and I had monkfish curried which was amazing. The fish was so fresh surprised it wasn’t still flapping! Finished with a generous cheeseboard and a scoop of delicious icecream. Very reasonably priced and would thoroughly recommend

Sunday lunch for two on a scorching day. Sat in the courtyard for a pre lunch drink then through to sit at our table. With a light breeze blowing through the open patio door it was cool enough to eat comfortably. Starters of well cooked whitebait and popcorn cockles went down well , followed by sea bass and roast beef. Nice food , good service definitely one to revisit.

If I had this on my doorstep in London I would eat here for lunch twice a week. Popped in for a crab salad and ended up sharing three of the lunchtime vegan dishes. Vietnamese noodle salad with Krab cakes, bruschetta and VeGee chilli. All tasted great and felt healthy yet filling. Next time I will try the Sossage roll... am sure will be just as good.

Could not visit Lowestoft without eating seafood and visited Markg's on the recommendation of our B & B hosts. What an excellent recommendation. A bright, cheerful restaurant located in the Tramways Hotel (don't use Post Code on SatNav) with friendly, efficient waiting staff.

In the past, my colleague and I have been to The Waterfront, Kessingland, but they were closed, so we went to MarkG at The Tramway Hotel. What a result! Fantastic food, perfect Adnams, and just the right level of hospitable service.

Had a really super meal at Mark G for my birthday last week. Cockle popcorn is one of my most favourite things and a great way to start the meal with a cocktail. Main course was an enormous and delicious Skate wing with capers and brown shrimps. Really enjoyed the whole meal in a nice setting with good service.

I asked for a spritz £6 yes madam would you like that with soda or prosecco? I said it’s made with both, she said well if you have it with prosecco that will be £8 additional. I told them forget it I will have a beer. Cheapest wine £17.00 ( which is £3.00 at tesco. Food okay, a la carte and not great value for Lowestoft. Felt as if I was in London

We shared a smoked cod's roe starter (with grilled bread and paprika) to start. And then local smoked haddock with lemon mash, brown shrimp fish cream (with greens and poached egg); and pan fried sea bass with garden pea risotto with chorizo and king prawn. Just perfect.

I have never been disappointed by Markg at the Tramways and on my most recent visit their consistent performance was again emphasised. I had gone with my mother who at 92 does not have a great appetite so she had the whitebait starter and the lemon tart, I had the set menu (a bargain at £10 for two courses) which comprised skate and apple crumble.
